Neighborhood: West PortalWe just purchased a place using John Balestreri at Barbagelata.
I was nervous at first as John is friends with my wifes parents and that can be awkward.
We spoke to other agents, tried directly and looked all over. The experience with other agents was truly awful and would have been a disaster.
John has an incredible knowledge of the city, believe he has had his license since 1967. He steered us away from a couple of premium disasters, ones I had my heart set on and ones he would have made considerably more commission, and we couldn't be more thankful.
We were absolutely set on a couple of areas and John skillfully managed to steer us away. In retrospect it would have been such a bad idea. I find one of the largest issues that buying a place the first time is so emotional and terrifying. I felt perfectly sick writing the deposit check. Interesting thing is that if we won the lotto today we wouldn't move, best testament.
He is professional to the last and really makes sure that you are in your budget and really in the place you should be. Arranged all inspections and the vendors he used were fabulous.
Great experience, 1st time SF buyers.
I recently purchased my home using Jerry Stynes of Barbagelata. I was most fortunate to meet Jerry during one of my open home tours. He is a lifelong San Francisco resident, and an expert in the Sunset District. He was able to explain everything I needed to know to navigate the homebuying process. He was especially helpful in guiding me through the closing process, telling me what I needed to do at what time in order to execute my end of the deal. I was so happy to have Jerry's help, and I would recommend him to anyone looking to buy or sell their home
My husband and I started our house hunting in San Francisco in 2002. The market was getting competitive. We tried going it alone, then we tried a couple of agents that we found to be unresponsive and uninterested in our needs. We were very lucky to meet Greg Shumsky with Barbagelata at an open house. He was honest & sincere and helped us through the process. After 6 years, 1 toddler & pregnant again, we found ourselves needing a bigger place -- and under the gun. Greg sold our house & got us into another that we will be happy in for many years to come. Since we are not moving again any time soon, id like to share Greg with everyone else. Thanks, Greg!

Sonia Gomez-Rexelius - bilingual, great personality, easy-going, yet - gets it done!
When we were house hunting a while back, we did our homework and searched high and low for the perfect person to work with low-income teachers. We were snubbed by Romeo at Zephyr Realtors. Vanguard treated us like we were real estate morons. Rose Pali at Barbagelata was like being engulfed in your mother's hug.
She welcomed us with open arms, not caring about our low numbers and financial status. She worked with us on everything we needed, including loans and things to look for when going out on weekend open housing. Everything she did was planned with our best interests in mind...and for her nice commission. Come on, now...I ain't no dummy. The girl's gotta bring home the bacon.
We searched high and low for nearly two years, hitting every open house from here to Oaktown. Nothing. It's sad when teachers can't even afford to live in the city where they work. BIG SIGH.
I think I hit every single open house that happened during the time we searched...and even the Tuesday tours. Oh, I know I've been in every house in San Francisco, for sure. Probably even the one you're watching Tivo in, as you casually browse Yelp on your laptop while lounging on your IKEA furniture and sipping an alcoholic beverage of your choice.
In fact, I bet I've walked all over your place, looking in the nooks and crannies of every floorboard, fireplace, crack in the wall, super secret compartment that reveals a torture chamber in the dungeons below the foundation. Yup. I've seen EVERYTHING.
One last thing...your house is FILTHY...ever hear of a little thing called GOOD HOUSEKEEPING? Geez.

Jerry is an impeccable broker/agent. His expertise, professionalism and understanding of the market is a great help. We are selling our SF home and he has been a great advisor in the process. He has conviction in what he thinks is right and will put his money where his mouth is.
If you are selling your home, you definitely should ask Jerry to help you. You won't be disappointed.
I basically said, Jerry, sell it, this is how much i want and he took care of everything else. The contractors, schedule, budget, inspections, etc... Also he calls every other day to give me updates! What service!

Ahhh, the good 'ole Barbagelata Company! I worked here for over two years as a part-time receptionist several years ago, so I've got the inside scoop on this place. Their business operations could be a little crazy at times, but all in all I did get the sense that they actually care about their clients (both the buyers and sellers).
They've grown a lot in the last few years, and if I recall correctly, they primarily serve buyers and sellers in the western half of SF (Sunset, Richmond, West Portal, Twin Peaks Districts, etc.).
Should I ever actually have enough money to afford a down payment on a down payment on a home in San Francisco, I'll probably give these guys a call.
P.S. Paul, Krista gave me the message. No worries :)

So here's I found my realtor Kathy White---the person you trust with your personal private financial information, your social security information, your credit rating, your personal private feelings and fears about probably the most significant debt and purchase you'll ever make in your life---she was the one who answered the phone. I called and interviewed no less than 5 realtors and most were out---by which I mean geographically as in not in the office *out* and detached, don't know you, couldn't care less about you living on the corner of Crack n' Main, but can I hook you up when you're ready *out*.
Kathy immediately jumped to the top of our list.
She was excellent at follow-through, kept her word---which in my opinion is a priority for realtors---went to bat for us consistently and got us into our new home with minimal hassle and headache. She threw in some buyer incentives...won't divulge the details on that, it's bad form; plus you need to work that out with her yourself.
Thank you Kathy for making our home buying experience a positive one!

Want to say that Paul Barbagelata is the best! I've sold three houses with his company and bought two through him and they were the smoothest deals ever.
In particular, I sold a home to folks who had been renting the house from me. They were a little low on cash and credit, but Paul made it happen!
Also, when my parents passed away and I was totally confused, Paul not only handled the sale of their house, he had a painter/repair team come in for a quick fix up and he personally arranged for an estate sale guy to handle the odds and ends that I didn't know what to do with.
Integrity plus!
