Came here Thursday with my friends. It was pretty dead the time we were there (9:30 - 12) but we like it that way. Drinks were good and not overpriced. PBR's 2 bucks all day, everyday. The servers were attentive, asking if we needed another round quickly after I plopped my empty cup down. The DJ played some old school 90s stuff, which is a plus with me.
A great place to go during football season with all the flatscreens streaming all of the games available on Sunday. The last time I came here prior to Thursday was a Sunday in October and it was packed at around 1ish. So get here early if you want seats.
R15 is in the middle of downtown and its one of the nicer places one could be. It was crowded when we went and very loud but hey thats a bar right??!
The pool tables, flat screens are nice. Service was quick and drinks are not overpriced.I went back after this with other friends :)
good food , decent drinks and drinkprices i suppose .
definately douchebaggy and ghetto all at the same time though .
I still like this place but the Heirloom pizza is gone!!! I have no idea why, it was so delicious. They do have a bbq chicken pizza that I like. But seriously that Heirloom tomatoe pizza was the bomb.

I was here on a Sunday afternoon and had a pleasant experience. They have about four quarter-slot… Read more »
Is it possible to love a bar? If so, I do.
That sounds borderline alcoholic but I can't help it. I absolutely love R15! My friends taste in bars varies so differently. Some prefer dive bars, others hoity toity expensive lounges. However, everyone that I've taken here has enjoyed it as much as I have.
R15 has the ambiance and physical aspects of a nicer bar, but prices cheaper than my favorite dive bar. This is a winning combo. What place do you know has pool tables, flat screens, a restaurant, and a lounge area to sit back and play video games? Throw in that the bartenders are super friendly and always give a strong pour.
Tip: If you want a surefire way to get loaded- order a Wiki (which I have only found served in Davis aside from R15) and watch out for that shot of 151 they pour in your straw ;]
This is a good bar if you are in need of a "college" like bar. Cheap drinks and a good atmosphere...sometimes the crowd can get a bit sketchy on the weekends.
Try and grab a tall table and people watch....
I went here a couple months ago for happy hour. It was good time, but they didn't have enough bartenders for Happy hour (1). Prices weren't bad, but service wasn't great either (total props for the hot girl working the bar, though). I'd go back. It's a pretty legit bar, it seems.
Borderlines on a dive bar but not quite there. Nothing upscale about it. I've been here a handful of times and there has always been guys yelling and arm wrestling and doing the usual crap I don't really feel like being around. On a Monday night I met up with my friend here. Had a couple of pbr's, smoked on the spacious patio. They have pool tables here as well. It's not bad and it's not good. I've never had the food here, but since they're connected to Cafe Bernardos it can't be that bad right? I'd come here again if my friends are here.
I've visited R-15 for happy hour, off and on, since they opened. However, this evening's experience could break my stride. Usually I pick R-15 when an out-of-town, hard-working friend comes through Sacramento and we need some cheap but decent early eats and some good drinks. The crowd is typically friendly folks, sometimes loud inside, but the outdoor patio is comfortable in the spring/summer/fall.
Lately, though the bar has been sadly lacking the skills that drew me in earlier, which is to say the drinks tonight were weak, weak, weak. If I order a top shelf martini I'd like to taske the vodka, thanks.
And the bar food has gone severely downhill. The bar food menu used to offer more options, now it appears to have been pared back. Lately the Specials Board has been missing from the wall. And the food quality overall has gone downhill in a major, crap-my-car-lost-its-breaks kind of way. Wings, formerly a decent staple of any bar-goer's diet and rendered faily well at this watering hole, are now heavily laden with a cheap-tasting, vinegary, messy, soup of a sauce - gross. My husband's turkey sandwich was so dry that I choked while trying a bite and then spit it out, and he ended up removing the bread and just ate the insides - now that's a sucky sandwich. Our visiting friend's burger was deemed "greasy, greasy, greasy, decent...but greasy." Of course, he'd worked construction all day and skipped lunch, so he probably would have eaten a shoe.
We moved around to three different tables when we first arrived, because every table we tried was so wobbly it was uncomfortable. I'd lean on the table: wobble (frantically grab my martini). Sit up from the table: wobble (frantically grab my martini). Switch tables. Repeat.
When we first frequented R-15 we were fans. Now, not so much.
Always rode past this place and wanted to give it a try. Finally came on a Friday night and the place was packed! I guess it's considering a more "hip" bar, with lots of giant tvs playing videos and all that. They have an outdoor area in the front, a long surrounding bar, lots of tables and booths. We spotted a cute security and a good looking bartender with a slick attitude ;) Drinks were good and at great prices. I believe I had the best Melon Ball up to date, and their Cosmopolitan is very good too! Burgers & Brew is right next door, so no need to worry about food after a visit here =)
Had brunch here this past Sunday and really enjoyed it. Cheap, good food, attentive staff, clean and good drinks. The outdoor seating area is very nice and I really like what they've done with the block.
Double Sapphire's and tonic at a reasonable prices and pool tables. Thats all I can really ask for. And R15 delivered. Even better was the lack of a crowd, granted, it was a Wednesday, so thats not too surprising, but I do enjoy a bar that I can go to and not feel like I have to wade through a sea of people.
I work just a block away from this Bernardo location, but I only tried their lunch for the first time last week. People in my office are always eating there or getting food to go, so I thought "hey, maybe it's worth a try!"
Yeah, I was pretty underwhelmed.
I ordered a burger with a side salad and some sauteed spinach.
The burger, made with Niman Ranch beef, was a disappointment. They took some really good quality beef and reduced it to something you could get from that glass case at AM/PM. Want your burger cooked medium? Try well-done instead! Mmmm, crunchy beef patty!
The salad, mixed baby greens with a tasty vinaigrette, was good, but pretty pricey for a small plate of lettuce and dressing.
The spinach sauteed with garlic tasted fine, but consisted of 50% leaves and 50% stems - just like a bag of cheap Mexican weed. I choked a lot!
The iced tea was the best part of the meal, actually, and I would go back if only for that.
Overall, the food wasn't totally inedible, but considering what they charge for it, there is really no compelling reason to eat there. There are some better alternatives in the area to be sure.
I must say that I really love this bar. You never have to wait too long for a drink. There is rarely a line and when there is it goes by within 5 minutes. No dress code or cover. Also the inside is huge with a large smoking patio, pool tables, and rooms that are first come first serve (and no charge either). You can even check-out a video game system and video games with your ID to play inside the rooms -- the rooms are equipped with HUGE (~42+ inches) plasma tvs.
Although I have never been here early enough to see it as a restaurant, I know I will one day. And when I do I will update my review. ;)
(Oh, and fyi -- this is more of a chill bar scene. Not much/any dancing occurs in this bar.)
R15 is a cool place to go if you're in the mood to chill and have a few drinks.
R15 is a cool place to go if you're not in the mood to get groped on by 18 year old douchebags (*cough* Empire *cough*). And, really, who is?
R15 is a cool place to go to say "Hi" to Matt, the awesome and nice bartender.
What isn't cool is getting some major attitude from the other bartender for no apparent reason. What's your problem? Would you rather be over at Empire or something?
Still, didn't let that kill my buzz!
Went here with my wife last night on a Sunday a little after 6. Got a very nice surprise, Happy Hour was 3-7 even on Sundays, woohoo!!
For me the thing that makes any bar is the guy/gal behind the counter and our tender Zack was great. Friendly guy who knows how to make a stiff drink and makes you feel welcome.
Minus one star because they were out of everything that night, even bud light and hot wings!
It was a quiet night which was exactly what I was looking for on a Sunday evening.
Like another yelper said, a chill place for grownups to hang out. I will be back.
Hung out here for a drink and pool. It was a simple bar with a simple promise. They fulfilled said promise with a DJ, pool tables, booze, and a wild blaxsplotation film.
Played pool, had some private rooms with plasmas. extra star for the bartender for giving us an extra drink on the house.
A group of my Coworkers and I headed out here last Friday afternoon for a "team building". We had a good time and I can't comment on the prices as no one would let me pay for a drink. However when I ordered my beer the bar tender kinda forgot me. I ordered and he said he would get it in a minute. I had to go back 5 minutes later when it never came and reorder.
Then I grabbed a burger because I skipped lunch. It was great - but what is with the 50-cent charge for a side of ranch for the fries? Our group ordered about 25 drinks, 5 appetizers and 3 meals - couldn't you comp the side of ranch?
We will probably go back for another "team building" in a few months. If things improve I could be convinced to up the star count.
Typical Sacramento bar for typical Sacramento people.
Nuff said.
Went here on a Saturday night, but I think I came a little too early.
A couple friends and I got here around 830ish.
Thus, the bar was still pretty dead.
The look of the bar is cool.
I like the fact that they have a bar area/seating area, as well as private rooms to hang out in, and pool tables.
I was kinda bummed out that they didn't have pay-per view, since they're a bar I thought that they would be playing the big fight for that night. But, no luck.
We sat down at a table, and our waitress was pretty rude. She asked if we were gonna order food, and we said no, thus stating that she was only going to take our orders for our first round of drinks. And when she came back, she was rushing us to sign our bills because she wanted to leave already. Very rude.
I still think I'd come back and check out the bar at it's peak time.
Although, I am worried that I won't find parking anywhere close, especially since Empire is right next door.
As a bar, I find R15 to have a nice, eclectic mixture of people. With the proliferation of "ultra lounges" around midtown lately, it's nice to get back to a more mellow, yet not quite "divey" bar to hangout. I take my friends who aren't familiar with the downtown scene here to get their feet wet. The drinks aren't amazing or very strong, but they're fairly priced.
As a cafe during the day, I absolutely love it here. The food's fresh, the portions are enormous (their "half" portions are usually more than I can finish in one sitting), and everything's on the cheaper side. I also love their 75 cent specials on day-old pastries (what can I say, I'm super cheap).
Overall, an above average bar at night, and a solid lunchtime spot during the day.
3.5
Not exactly a dive bar, although definitely a place with slut it up potenital. Not upscale, but you might find some suits there chillaxin. Not a sports bar, but they've got a good amount of flat screens to catch the game. Not a restaurant, but decent food with seated dining. Not a pool hall, but there are a few tables. Not a club, but a decent sound system and a dj booth.
So WTF is this place????? Its a adult hang out!!! Alright not just a hang out, because they serve food, beer, hard alcohol, have pool tables, flat screen tvs, video games, xbox 360, and dark corners to make out in, if you want to slut it up. oh yeah and that's because the prices are decent and you might loose track of how many you threw down, mmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just effin' love this place. I haven't been able to take full advantage of it just yet since I'm always there with coworkers or casual acquaintances and I don't particularly want to show them what happens when I find out about $2 pints of PBR. However, the outdoor seating is ideal for people watching, getting drunk and loud, and going out with bigger groups. And smoking. I love smoking.
I think the bartenders here are very sweet and the waitresses are nothing short of amazing. They're so chit chatty that I actually traded numbers with one the last time I was there! Even the premium drafts are okay priced and they have pool tables and good jams on the radio. This whole complex rocks my ass off since I saw my fave show ever right next door and on the other side is one of my favorite breakfast spots. I could pretty much live in the back yard if it weren't for the traffic/train noise.
I wish the happy hour menu were a little more extensive. Like some cheap appetizers and discounted premium drafts.
The end.
The only major downside to R15 is that it can become pretty hard to find a pool table after 10 pm. However, once you find a table R15 is a pretty fun place. Oh, and the bar is next to Empire, so that also might be a problem with all the drunk youngsters trying to act tough.
I think this is one of the cooler bars around Sacramento, just because it's not too crazy, it's not too loud and I've never had a bad time there. They've got a handfull of pool tables, a bar that will actually get you drinks without the typical delay that sobers you up before being served, and a decent crowd of people. It's a good "in between" bar- not a dive, but not a prissy club. I just wish they kept the conjoining Cafe Bernardo kitchen open later. But I will say that I like this place, and will be back once it's warm enough to walk the distance home.
So I drank waayyy too much on a Friday night and left a jacket and umbrella there, I go back the next day a little humbled and they had my stuff and were very cool about it. Very cool cute bartender.
I found out they had all the football games and beer specials so I wanted to go back on a sunday and give them my business. That is where the compliment ends.
We showed up for a 1 pm game and I was in a burger mood. But, they dont serve burgers until 3 on sundays. Who there @#$# does that? We got up and left.
How you dont serve lunch items until 3 is beyond me. If I ever go back, it will only be to drink, I wont go there hungry.
5 stars for customer service, zero stars for a poorly run kitchen
R15 is a lounge. It's not a dancing club so don't expect to see dancefloor.
There's the outside patio, the bar and seating area, and the pool area. A nice place to just chill.
Except, I really wanted to dance. Empire was right next door, but I didn't want to bare the
"ghetto" crowd (event though they place good music.)
Overall, nice clean bathrooms was the one thing I got out of this place.
Seriously any place that offers Happy Hour 7 days a week is on my happy list. Only $2 for anything well and several domestic beers. The food from the main restaurant is always good. Especially the griddled ham and cheese, and chow mein noodle dish. I wasn't too much of a fan of the bbq pork sliders, but I would eat them if they were in front of me. The onion rings are awesome, fried calamari ok. Most of the staff is friendly and helpful, although occasionally I've had slow service, but that is rare. My husband and his friends love the fact they have video game rooms where we can all sit and they can play Madden.
This is a tough one for me. I want to dis this place....all it's fake coolness and all. The thing is...is that those dang fish tacos were so tasty...they were way too small, but so f'n good. The bar-keep was rude in that cool way only people who are dying to be accepted are fooled by... in fact this entire bar has the feeling of cool places back in the mid 90's. Here in sac-town we did not have much in those days...so we put up with places like this. We thought that it was such a blessing to have any club/bar like this around we took the abuse. We would do anything not to be rejected...It's different now. These days, places like this just seem clich and predictable.
...unless I was some fat-ass with a button down collar and a sailors cap..
R15 is one of the Paragary's joints and shares a building w/ Cafe Bernardo. And with daily happy hour from 4-7.. Mon-Sun $2 wells and $2 domestic drafts (Coors/Bud) you can't go wrong. Food at Bernardo's is excellent, and R15 is huge, plenty of booths. Game rooms for Xbox fans to play for free. 4 stars instead of 5 because they only serve food till 10.
Came here for a classmate's birthday last night. They played old school rap and hip hop all night long. Brought back a lot of good memories from back in the day. Unfortunately, I was the old fogie in the group who truly appreciated the jams. The other kids didn't even recognize most of the songs. Talk about generational gap! Even this girl who's only 2 years younger than me had never heard of some of the songs. Guess I'm just OG like that. Word.
Anyway, the drinks here are super cheap. I bought a round of 5 drinks (3 mixed drinks and 2 beers) for $17.25. The women's bathroom was clean. There are also heat lamps outside on the front patio. Definitely a fun place to hang out.
Hey brah, wanna pound some jaeger?
Nah brah!
Dear reviewers that don't like R15,
Don't leave the house in mid-town... are people ass clowns? Chicks sluts? Yes, yes blah blah.
The only people worse than the frat rejects, drunk/drugged wanna-be-rockers and stone cold tramps that roll through Sac are the people that stay in Sac and want it to change...
Truths in life:
Grass is green
Water is wet
Sac is full of lame people (save about 15 of you)
So, here is a place that at least tries to cater to everyone... even your Antelope ass... just suck it up and join them or move.
Don't ride into hell and exclaim: "it is too hot."
I just had brunch at Cafe Bernardo and R15 was right next to the cafe. I stumbled into this place to check it out, maybe get a beer or two and I was impressed with its inside.
I supposedly think it's a bar or lounge at night. So I was on my way to the one of the private lounge rooms to hang out and play some Xbox, I passed by the DJ booth with its turn table on the second floor overseeing the floor. I noticed it was empty and was tempted to put on a show for the lucky fellows below chilling on a hot Sunday afternoon. The booth was empty, and I thought it would be nice to put on a lil show.
Back to the review, This place has a relaxing vibe to chill in, they have huge plasma tv everywhere and couple of brand new pool tables. It's a shame this place is in Sacramento, or it would have rock. It's a slick pad.
My parents (whom I do everything with because I'm a dork, have no friends in Sac, like them to buy me food, etc) read somewhere that R15 was *the* new place to drink in Sacramento. Last weekend they wanted to try somewhere other than their usual haunts so we decided to check out R15.
From the outside R15 looks like 90% of the new buildings in Sacramento. A style of architecture and design that reminds me of new University of CA buildings. Is it cheap? Energy efficient? I'm not sure, but I suspect we will regret it in 10-15 years.
Inside, R15 was okay. The lighting was dark and red. My mom and I were literally the only women in the bar for most of the time we were there. Thus, we were subject to the harassment of a random drunk guy with some sort of fake accent. Our food (cooked at Bernardo next door), was decent, but my steak was decidedly medium+ and not the medium rare I'd requested. It was cheap though. All the food seemed reasonable.
Oh, and our drinks were yummy. I had their Maker's Manhattan and after two of them I was having a hard time sitting at their tall bar stools.
PS-I feel like I might be missing another entry for R15 because I have a hard time believing that nobody has reviewed it yet. Someone let me know if I'm being a spaz (it wouldn't be the first time).
I like this place.
At least, well, I like it enough. It's easier to get me here than say Hangar 17 (which I once very loudly, rudely, and obnoxiously announced to several people sitting within earshot *at* Hangar 17 was The Lamest Bar Ever. Or something like that. They don't have Jameson and they play hip-hop music. I ask...just what is there to like?) Anywho.
I like the design of R15. I like the cheap drinks. I like the very friendly staff that is not at all full of themselves and some are quite-quite hot. I like that the bar is all padded underneath so I can put my knees up into it. I like that the pool tables have plenty of room because that one time every ten years I play a round it'll really matter.
I also like the calamari and that they have a biiiiig bathroom. I like the pretty red lights. I like that (and this might be rumor) they let people guest DJ with their iPods. I like that there is ample room outside for smokers. I like that around Halloween Harry Potter was on the TV. I like that this is a happy medium for friends who aren't big on dives and people like me who love dives can all be reasonably comfortable.
The crowd does change later in the evening and cycles into That Certain Crowd I don't like because I'm a snob. But I'm trying to learn to deal with it better because, well, I'm just trying to work on that whole "judgmental" thing and just cuz someone looks like a stripper it doesn't mean they are. Whatever, there was still a lot of bleached hair and bad skin. But that's the other thing I like about R15...a hop, skip, and a jump from Monte.
ETA: No offense to strippers, I respect and like them. I just lack the proper description for That Type that seems pretty prevalent around here.
I was in Sac-Town for a visit last weekend and wanted to experience some nightlife on Friday. I was told to go to The Park - which I wasn't totally sure of whether it was a bar or an actual park. (keep in mind im ALWAYS down for 40z in the park). After being turned away because I wasn't "dressed to impress, bro" - I was kind of at a loss for where to go next.
A buddy suggested R15...and we were off.
Now, I live in San Francisco, where the 'Smug' runs pretty thick, and restaurant/wine/bar snobbery is off the richter, so you might be anticipating a "not as cool as _________ bar in SF."
No...this places was "hella" cool, and I will definitely come back next time I go to Sac.
Good drinks, good buzz, random Britney Spears look-a-likes(current Britney, not 1999 Britney...but whatever) handing out cupcakes, nice pool tables, and little side rooms with flat screens and xbox 360's I heard you can rent.
Sac-Town...THIS IS NOT A DIVE!
Go to your dive on tuesday night...Got to R15 on Friday...you might, you know, have fun.
R15 is like the Monkey Bar to the Cafe Bernardo on Capital only better and less crowded. When R15 first opened, I figured they would be littered with the riff rafts from Empire next door but it is not the case with a decent mixed crowd - at least not the gun toting belligerent idiots we been hearing about that frequent down/midtown bars and clubs these days.
I like coming here for Saturday & Sunday morning football especially when you can get one of the two cubby holes, it just makes up for the service when you order from Cafe Bernardo (another seperate review). Since it is first come first serve, you have to be there early or prepare to stalk for it. It may not have as many different games on simultaneously as the other places, I have to say it is a fair compromise for decent food in this genre.
The drink selection is pretty wide from cheap PBR to premium, bottled & drafts but best of all, they serve pitchers.
The only complaint I have is the acoustics of the place (excluding the cubby hole) can get pretty bad with the sound bouncing everywhere that resulted in the sound from the television being exaggeratedly loud.
How helpful that they named a bar exactly where it can be found? Perfect. No need to remember the name and location of where my friends and I are. Now if only along with the address it said something like "cheap drinks R15" or "possibly roofied *insert address of monkey bar*" that would be even more beneficial. All joking aside R15 is fun. My friends frequent the hang out usually on Fridays when the pay check has just been deposited and want to know exactly just "how many of them shot things" I can buy for only twenty dollars. the answer is probably like 4. Another plus is the music. Where else besides my playlist marked "Guilty Pleasures" can I hear Wheatus' "Teenage Dirtbag"?
They have separate rooms for video games which I view and both a positive and negative. I mean, sure it's cool and the bartenders will deliver your drinks right to you, but if I wanted to see douche bags sitting on the couch playing Call of Duty I'd just go to the local frat house. They have many pool tables for the active drunk, an outside patio if you're a smoking drunk, and plenty of seating which didn't stop me from once sitting on the floor. Long story.
Echo wearers beware: the bouncers are not kidding when they say no cargo pants. It's not Nam. We live in Sac, so unless your hiding a shiv, please dress accordingly
