I hate being told I have to wait to go into a bar just because they want me to wait and i hates on the fatty door bitch who apparently suffers from Aspergers cuz' he don't gots the ability to look a man in the eye, Ngative one star!
Inside the windowless drinking establishment is exactly like you'd suspect if you knew anything about this place. It was friggin still Christmas in there, no joking and no relief. The table, the bar, the bathroom were all busier than Big Bear, son!
The drinks were expensive, natch but you may spend far more than expected if you're on the party circuit. The service is curt.
Whassevers.
Beautiful people and their ambition is superb and enjoyable. Some stories happen without much help and the one I had here was like that. Just being the right person is what we shall report and that's why I must put forth the fourth star total!
I'll come back when I'm in the zone and in the mood. -

This place amazes me. I have been trying to make a group booking for my company, for a group of approx 30-35 people, open bar tab, for several weeks now, and their events coordinator just refuses to get back to me. I've left messages, I've emailed, I've left messages for her assistant and NO ONE has called or emailed me back. This is actually the second time I've tried to book an event with them and neither time have I been able to nail down a quote for what our minimum spend would be, let alone make a booking.
I'm totally taken back because our company events are always full open bar and we usually rack up a very generous bar tab, so I don't understand - do all my emails and voice-mails get lost? Or do they simply not want / need our custom? -

Bumping up my rating based on last night's outing. Since my original post, I've accepted that a) drinks in Hollywood are not cheap and b) sometime's it's OK shelling out a little extra for a worthwhile vibe.
I stopped in for an after-dinner cocktail with friends. The drinks were good (though they took a while to get made, and the bartender couldn't even remember my face 2 minutes after I'd given her my order (is my face that forgettable? ::sob::)
I still think the moths on the ceiling are creepy, but the music was good, the place was full, but not crowded, the staff was friendly and everyone was having a good time.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Love this spot, one of my favorite spots in LA to grab a cocktail! one problem the cocktail waitresses here are terrible!!! it's time to get some new staff chateau marmont time to clean house... I had some international friends in town and they wanted to buy a bottle of grey goose but the waitress was plain rude and disappeared before we could put in our order. Apparently she didn't realize that she was loosing a 800 tab, i guess we didn't look rich enough. so why am i leaving a four star review then? the drinks are amazing and the bartenders know there shit, and i love the atmosphere. I'll be back.

14 dollars for a wack drink and a not so great female DJ, no mixing just playing songs on the laptop? She was sweet though and took a request from a friend to play MJ.
Celebrity alert... Rob Kardashian!!!! Who cares right?!... Apparently my friends did!!!
I did however enjoy the bubbly host, the elegant decor, and the low key not crowed atmosphere.
I will give this place another shot another time in the future as my experience was quite pleasant for the most part :) -

Cool spot in West Hollywood. Went twice in one trip to LA. Once for drinks and people-watching, the second for dinner. Very dim inside which seems to be the norm for West Hollywood hot spots (maybe so celebs aren't as noticeable?). Either way, I order the Damn Good Burger and it was just as the description says it is...DAMN GOOD!

Super hip and cute, dark interior and dim lighting, definitely have to rave about the butterflies that filled the ceiling.. quirky-cool idea. The bartender served THE BEST GIN n TONIC i've ever had. they were definitely on point with that drink. The crowd that was there (tuesday) was a good mix for those in the 25-40 age range.
Our party decided to sit and eat. the menu was pretty unique, such as apple wrapped bacon or rabbit crisps?
I ordered the "damn good burger" (that's the actual name of it on the menu) and it was actually......here it comes...you guessed it, damn good! :) it's a large size, even enough to share with two people. all the fixins come on the side, which is crispy onions, tomato, lettuce and pickles- which was all seasoned, nothing seemed to be left un-noticed. the ketchup..seemed to have a hint of curry in it, possibly? got a taste of the pumpkin dip for their fries, and also a taste of the 'garlicky shrimp' which was all tasty as well. they were able to accommodate our group of 6 easy, and our server, a cute young lady, was super awesome and nice. all in all a good time. -

My boyfriend & I went for my friend's birthday. It was a lot of fun!!! The food was AMAZING! The drinks were really good/strong. It is a tad pricey, for 6-7 drinks & two entrees it was $150.

Food was great. Decor was fascinating and the people starting coming through the woodwork around 11p, on a Sunday, I couldn't believe it. Fun place, will have to return just for the bar... once a get a few other places off my list.

We sat at the small bar and ordered martinis before seeing a show at the laugh factory.
The bartenders were friendly and personable. The martinis were a bit pricey ~$15 each but the bourbon martini was easily the best I've had in a long time. The bartender also gave us a free dessert before we left. -

Los Angeles, CA
honestly, i think im missing what the big deal is about this place. the drinks are very expensive which i expected $14 for a cocktail. ok, that's the going rate at any hollywood spot that tries to be "exclusive". yes, there were a few celebs there. ok, big whoop. but as far as teh place inside, it looks really nice. almost like that "speakeasy" style of place. the bartenders were friendly which was surprising. i went on a Tuesday night and noone was really in there to be honest. HOwever, it was quite early (11pm). Don't get me wrong, there were poeple there but I was expecting a bit more. Honestly this is a place where it seems you come with 2 or 3 friend and sit down and relax like you're in your living room and basically only talk to the people you came with. maybe that is just the scene during the week. i was told that the best nights to come were tues, wed and thrus but i should avoid the weekend people. i had no problems getting in but i suspect that was because it was earlier and it wasn't that crowded. bouncer gladly let me in without any door drama or "are you here for a party" nonsense. im sure on teh weekend its more of a "scene" and probably more fun but it was just a nicely decorated place to me and honestly not that big of a deal. when you hear about these places you always think they are really fun in the inside because they seem really exclusive, but in LA a lot of these places are overhyped and when you finally get in to check things out, you're thinking...."ok this was what everyone was waiting in line for.....?"

Review from Tiffany S.
West Hollywood, CA
I've been to BAR MARMONT several times and while it has never quite rang with the glamour and vivacity it did back when it was Sunset's neophyte, I feel it will always exude a quality of exclusivity. This is a place that commands every patron to over-dress or under-dress (no one does the Homeless Bohemian look as well as Los Angelenos do), and under the tones of the red dim lighting even non-industry goers can feel like Hollywood elite.
On a Thursday night I had reservations to dine there with two of my closest girlfriends. After being seated at a table that had a booth on one side and two stools on the other, the three of us played musical chairs due to the uncomfortably high stool height. Even at 5' 3" I felt awkwardly giant-like in comparison to the girls sunken into the booth opposite me.
Although Chateau Marmont has been around since the 1930s, Bar Marmont didn't exist until 7 years ago. Formerly a strip club then a recording studio, the interior ceiling was littered with black paper butterflies when the building was purchased. The butterflies were removed as Bar Marmont was designed and constructed, then upon completion, they were pinned back in place. Although I appreciated the sentiment of preserving this quirky decor detail, the scattering of the black folded papers, which to me looked like a slew of webbed bats, is slightly unappealing.
We started our meal with a basket of Gougères, cheesy French pastries, which are light, warm, and a little bit bigger than the size of a golf ball. They were fluffy in the center, baked to the right amount of crispiness on the outside, and the cheese was semi-sharp and savory. We were delighted that we had a whole basket-full to consume.
Our waitress then recommended the SMOKED TROUT IN CRISPY POTATOES which was topped with a dollop of Crème Fraîche, capers, and green onions. Upon first bite, the saltiness was overwhelming and the trout was so smokey it evoked an illusory flavor of bacon. I'm from the school of thought where everything is better when it is wrapped, infused, drizzled or topped with bacon, so normally I would have liked the flavor. What was odd, however, was that bacon was nonexistent in this dish, so every bite was a bit of a puzzle.
Transitioning into a dish where bacon actually made a tangible appearance, we moved on to the BACON WRAPPED ARMAGNAC PRUNES. Soaked in Armagnac brandy, these pulpy prunes dripped with sugary juices. The sweetness of the brandy combined with the distinguished and savory taste of the bacon was quite good. I kept dipping the prunes back into the remaining syrup to soak up as much flavor as possible.
The BURRATA AND GRILLED ARTICHOKE BOARD was our waitresses' next recommendation, and the three of us did not have to be told twice to order anything associated with Burrata. The artichoke hearts were slightly breaded, grilled and then soaked with lemon and herbs. I found the sourness of the lemon a bit too strong but the accompanying tomatoes, which were baked to a slushy pulp were tasty. The burrata was creamy and the Lucques olives were pleasantly flavorful. As I bit into them, it tasted like I was nipping on swigs of olive oil.
We ended with two pasta dishes, the first being a LAMB RAGOUT TAGLIATELLE topped with a flick of Pecorino. The lamb was hearty and savory; the pasta soft although it didn't taste homemade.
Last we finished with a bowl of SCALLOP, SHRIMP & ZUCCHINI RISOTTO. Topped with hearty leaves of basil and mixed with sweet corn, this dish felt a little frenetic in style and flavor. The scallops were sweet and tender but the risotto was a bit too liquefied. The basil overpowered bites of shrimp and overall the dish's flavors didn't mesh well.
In culinary terms, the dining experience at Bar Marmont is much like Hollywood itself: a bit overdone on the surface (dishes were over-salted, over-herbed, and over-garnished), yet shallow in quality. Pouting trendsetters and sports-coat-wearing dealmakers are here to puff cigarettes on the patio and discuss whether the stalled "Confederacy of Dunces" will ever get funding and make it to the big screen. They're not here for the Mac 'N Cheese or the Hanger Steak. They're not even here for the libations, which falsely dresses up a very ordinary cocktail list with names like SUN GODDESS and MILLIONAIRE COCKTAIL.
I would never dine there again, but if I ever wanted to remind myself that I live in L.A. (and if I were conveniently in the area), I would indulge in another libation on the patio.

The bouncers are pricks, probably disgruntled actors, but the bar is really cute. Once you go in, the ambiance is really cute, people are trendy and drinks are pretty good too. Would go there again.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA
This is by far my favorite bar in Los Angeles.
There are so many options in LA to get a drink and all of them obviously have their target audiences. If you aren't looking for a club atmosphere and want to step it up from a dive bar this is the place for you.
Its still very busy and getting a seat at the bar can be difficult, however I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes before finding a space. The bartenders seem like they actually like working there and if you are cool to them they seem to return the favor with a stiff pour.
Also, the people who come here are very diverse - from strange europeans staying at the hotel to 60 year old rockers reliving their youth. Its always a fun time. -

I've been to Bar Marmont several times and have always had an enjoyable experience. The food is good, the drinks are good, and the crowd is usually good..
I like how you have an outside seating area that allows you to mingle or have a smoke and an inner room where its more intimate. The music is usually on key and a good variety.
Definitely a hot spot where I come with friends often. -

Unbelievably hard to get a hold of for an event. Booked out Bar Marmont for our association's 100 year anniversary party over a month ago, and was told THREE days before my event that another party has taken precedent and that our reservation is no longer being held. 200 invites have already gone out! Now I have three days to find a new location and let everyone who has RSVP'd know that the location has changed. Unbelievable. Disrespectful. Stressful. Incredibly rude.
If you can avoid it, do. -

Took a gal pal here. Intimate ambiance and a chill atmosphere. The special of the evening---fried chicken---was indeed very tasty. And this southern girl loves a good, deep fried bird. Excellent service, friendly server, zero attitude.
Gal pal short on tip for valet; green of another kind accepted. -
Review from Katie B.
I must have been ballin' back in the day because Bar Marmont's prices never seemed to bother me, but when I made my there the other day in pursuit of the Starr Princessa for Yelp's All Starr Rum Cocktail Challenge (http://www.yelp.com/ev...), I was reminded that I am now much more conscious of prices. While the Challenge allowed me to suck back a drink for only $12 instead of $14, I just wasn't completely wowed by the drink. It didn't leave me pining for another one and I couldn't really taste any of the ingredients (Starr Rum, lime juice, simple syrup, egg whites, Grand Marnier). I don't know if it was the egg whites or the smell of the glass, but something made my nose not so happy, and it wasn't my upper lip.
Their happy hour is a bit unique and a little more affordable if you wanted a sampling of their menu. It's a light bite paired with a wine (their choosing) for around $12-$15, I think.
I would say other than the prices, they're really not pretentious, which is nice given the clientele their sister property next door pulls in.Listed in: Sunset Strip, Yelp LA's All Starr Rum…

Nice decor and ambience. Not impressed with the patrons. Came on a Saturday night and it seemed everyone was trying hard to look tres cool (it's not working). We jetted out of there. In the utmost cool manner, of course.
Most pretentious/stuffy spot this LA newcomer has seen yet. -

Santa Monica, CA
Nice dark hideaway from the crazy of Hollywood. Great staff, very friendly. Food is quality. The evenings are a scene as they are supposed to be in one of the most storied bars and Hotels in Los Angeles.
I met an old friend there and we had cocktails, a pizza like flat bread and calamari. The flat bread was great, fresh, piled high with meats and veggies... in a stylish way, not like a dominos. The calamari was interesting. No dipping sauces came with it, which was different, but the light fluffy batter like an onion ring worked well with just a spritz of lemon juice.
They make a pretty good Manhattan also.
Fun place. I'll be back... probably this week. -
Review from Matt O.
I like this place but it's not my style. You will love this place if you are dressed up and out for a traditional Hollywood night out on the town. We were there after the Emmys and the cast of Mad Men were celebrating which was totally cool. However, the grouchy hostess made us very aware we were not part of the cast of Mad Men. I happened to be with a publicist friend....and we happened to be in tuxes so the publicist was offended at their uppityness and pulled the hostess to the side and said "be careful who you are snotty to. You don't know who they are". At that moment the staff got excited about us. It was fun because we had come from the Emmys too but we are not famous. They scurried about and asked us if we won....they did a great job at kissing our "undeserving" ass. It was fun to suddenly be treated as an A lister (well at least a B+) but it's more fun to go to less flashy places if you are not with a group.
Would I go back? Yeah, if I was bringing someone from out of town who had never been to LA. Otherwise, it's too fickle for me. -

Brought a girl here for a date, its definitely not a first date kinda of place, but more of a 2nd or 3rd where you can cozy up to her in a low light, relaxed atmosphere. What i like about this place is the ambience, its inviting and seductive. Perfect for trying to make your move.
Drinks are on the expensive end, they have limited seating but if you manage do find a seat dont get up. Music is soft, they have a smoking room which is my favorite. -

well, second go round wasn't quite like the first. this time it was just a bar scene and no dancing! :( why not? i have no idea but the group i was with wasn't into it so we just left and since the valet already sent our car to the remote lot, that meant $12 fee. that sucks.1 Previous Review: Show all »

The Bar Marmont is a great place when you want to be somewhere that's cool but don't want to have to deal with a line, cover and other B.S.
I've been here many times, including for a few self-thrown birthday parties, and it's always been a great time. You can get a table, sometimes with a private booth overlooking the main bar, at NO COST if you're bringing enough people.
Great decor, cool people, a few different rooms (including a semi-outdoor patio) and a great staff make this one of my favorite places to go in all of LA. -

Los Angeles, CA
Bar Marmont is one of LA's better bars. The decor is elegant and classic while the red lights give it a modern touch. While the European style electro tinged lounge music gives it a touch of class and some positive vibes and energy.
Drinks are actually cheaper than at many other worse bars, going for $10 each. I prefer the mojito and the pisco sour.
Food is available as well. You can order everything from tapas to salads and entrees. I however prefer the desserts. I think they go better with the sweet tinged drinks than savory dishes. I highly recommend the coconut creme caramel and the chocolate and dulce de leche pudding, both go for $9. The cheese board($20) which features 3 California artisan cheeses, date and fig jam and honey makes a great accompaniment for the drinks as well.
The vibe is pretty laid back and it's a great place to just sit back, have a drink and something to eat if you want, and just spend some time with friends in a really cool setting. -

I think I'm a fan! I don't go out that often, but when I do, I don't mind puttin' on the ritz and spending a little extra on a well crafted mojito.
I think my favorite part was the fact my friend and I didn't look out of place in jeans. We were in no way looking like bums, but it's cool that this establishment is both classy and chill.
We were seated in this amazing alcove, very dark and alluring, which added a solid ten points to the experience. A negative? The music. Too loud, and seemingly inappropriate for the atmosphere they were trying to create. I didn't like having to scream at my friend who was right next to me.
I did feel a little silly ordering french fries, but there was no way I was going to have a drink on an empty stomach, and the menu is very much geared towards meat lovers. That being said, they were delicious! Even the ketchup was taken up a notch.
While this is not going to become a regular haunt for me, I think out-of-towners will be impressed.Listed in: Ooo...fancy.

I cant give you any advice on this place as a bar or destination to fraternize...
I've never actually been in their bar but only to use their bathroom. I must say though. The overall decor of the place bleeds Hollywood. So more power to them...
I use to walk through the backdoor and beg for free food. And they would give it too me. Jk
my sister use to work there.
now let's get down to business. You will see regular celebs like Rosario Dawson. And Jason segal. But something
More important than them is the food.
Have you ever seen that $6 burger commercial of the ridiculously priced burger. Well this is one of those places that has a ridiculously priced burger somewhere along the lines of $18. But dammit worth every penny.
Celeb or not. If you're there for a party or planning a visit wondering pre game what to order. Le Hamburger!!!! Deng it!!!! -

Los Angeles, CA
Old school hollywood feel. Very posh, exclusive without being oppressingly so. It's a lovely venue, right in the heart of Sunset strip.
Came for the Balvenie Scotch Tasting event, so can't speak for the normal crowd or experience, but the food at the event was definitely good. In particular, I loved the caprese tartlets (delicate slices of mozzarella and tomato on mini puff pastry), the sliders (very juicy), and the pigs-in-a-blanket (with an amazing aoli dipping sauce). The bacon-wrapped scallops were a bit chewy/undercooked.
Definitely looking forward to coming back!

One of my favorite places in Hollywood! This setting is intimate, yet trendy, and has old Hollywood charm. Bar Marmont was great on food, service and drinks in my opinion. On bar area is lively and although the dinning area can be somewhat of close quarters, I still felt like I had "private" space. It was easy to make reservations, and just walk right in after the car was left with the Valet. A great spot, and a must try when in the area. Enjoy!
PS- Prices are average and competitive with today's standards...same as most places. Dress trendy casual. -

Los Angeles, CA
This rating is based on the drinks, service, and ambiance. We didn't get any food.
Stopped in for a drink at Bar Marmont after a movie at Sunset 5 down the street. After some initial confusion about where to sit and how to order a drink--we tried to sit at an empty table, but we were told it was reserved, then we were directed to the bar, where there were no open stools, and finally we sat down in the front smoking section, but no waiter stopped by for 15 minutes--we finally got a drink menu and put in our orders. I thought about just getting a gin and tonic, but since the place has specialty drinks, I thought it only right to let them shine. I asked for a SUN GODDESS-vodka, lillet, mint, and fruit--and my friend requested a SIDECAR. Fifteen minutes later (that is, 30 minutes after we arrived), our drinks showed up. Mine tasted like a watery mix of sangria with a splash from a mint julep. My friend had a similar complaint.
It was a hot day, and I'm guessing that the bartender made the drink with a bunch of ice and then it sat for ten minutes while the waiter dithered. Either step up your service, or power up the drinks, folks. When the bill for two drinks comes to $32, I expect better.
Oh, I said I'd rate the ambiance, right? Hipster poseurs, old dudes, and wannabe it-girls. -

Been going here for the past 5 yrs or so. Always had a pretty good time, great food, drinks, ambiance, and service. Not always my kind of crowd, but still a fun hang with friends. Come early on week nights and it's not to busy. Weekends are all hollywood sunset strip scene.
Went there tonight with a friend for the first time in a couple years. Place is basically still the same. Our waitress(Sydney) was really great...
It was slower then usual, which was fine by me, as it meant a more mellow time to sit and have conversation.
Drinks:
-glass of the house champagne
- beaujolais
-Rose'
All very nice....They've always had a nice wine list that covers a good variety.
Food:
-Rabbit rillete
- Fennel Sausage & Ricotta Flatbread
- Smoked Trout in Crispy Potatoes
-Chickpea & Dandelion Salad
Everything was very good, though I don't really care for dandelion. Not into bitter greens....
It does end up being pricey, but for once in a while, it's a good reliable fun spot. -

Los Angeles, CA
This is my spot! I love coming here cause of the atmosphere. It low key and private, its dark and its easy to snuggle up in a corner and go unnoticed the whole night. It gets crowded sometimes but its LA, so you expect bars to be crowded.
This is the place i like to go to with a girlfriend or 2. Grab a drink and relax for a little. The crowd differs and sometimes you get the deutch bag hollywood types. Overall the bar is great but there bartenders need to step up there game. I hate having to wait 10 minutes just to get a drink.
Get more bartenders, plus my drinks are either too strong or watered down. But it is what you get and like i say if you want it done right do it yourself. So i guess i cant complain. -

Los Angeles, CA
We had a reservation and got seated right away at a great table. The service was a bit all over the place, it was hard to tell who our server was, but at least we were taken care of. The drinks were really good and reasonably priced for LA, the brass monkey and cucumber and Hendricks gin cocktail were especially good. We just had snacks, the burrata, fries w/ sauces, oysters and the charcuterie board. All were good, the charcuterie was our favorite though, loaded with great meats. I think the best part about this place for me is the ambiance. Low lighting, interested decor and a real vintage Hollywood vibe. It would be a good place to grab a drink on a date. It's Hollywood so the crowd is eccentric.

Review from Elise C.
Silver Lake, Los Angeles, CA
This place is kind of famous for being a good locale to spot celebs, but as a Los Angeles native, I couldn't really care less. And the feeling didn't really change once I'd actually arrived at this very fancy bar and spent some time in it.
The place is deceptively small and on a Friday night, got crowded really quickly. There's a small area to sit down for dinner, so it might behoove one to make reservations if you really intend to eat. This whole place just oozes "L.A. chic" from every pore and crevice. The menu isn't exempt. There's a $16 totally L.A. gourmet cheeseburger, and more expensive shit like rabbit toasties, which was... interesting. First time I'd had rabbit before, and it tasted a little like tuna, oddly. The bacon-wrapped prunes (okay, so I'm not a fancy person, but I love fancy food, sue me) were spectacular; very flavorful. Just leave me with twenty of them, I'm good.
Like everyone else said... butterflies on the ceiling. Like, actual insects. Dead, and pinned there, which is creepy for me and my fellow insectophobes. Shudder. However, the other decor is cool, which follows a "modern vintage" French look. Oil portrait paintings, red walls, tile floors, and iron rails abound.
They played old school 90s rap, which, in my opinion, is when rap was best. But it contrasted really strangely with the vibe in the place. Crowd was mostly industry veterans (the laid-back folks), and wannabes that should die in a fire. Drinks and food are expensive, though the portions were rather generous even for the calamari appetizer. Parking sucks and valet is a ridiculous $12. Also, what the hell is the deal with a one-person women's bathroom?!
This is really not my scene, and I think personally, Marmont is a little overrated and hoity-toity. But it's a great place to bring an out-of-towner who wants a more glamorous L.A./Hollywood outing without resorting to the dredge of, say, Rodeo Drive. -

I love this place. I guess this is my 2nd favorite, first is skybar. I just love the energy here. Its a bar not a club but its always a good time for me whenever im here. Located in west hollywood, so expect to see beautiful people , fashionistas, models, young adults and if youre lucky might catch a celebrity plus some gay and lesbo couples sometimes (its weho). Classy and chill place plus they always have really good music. From newest to 80s flashback.
Price is pretty average $12 and up for cocktails and wines. Bartenders are cool, so i can say IM A FAN! The reason why i gave only four stars coz of the restroom, it couldve been better if theres one more booth.
