I really like Bar Louie's happy hour. All of their draft beer is included and many of their appetizers are half off.
It is a great spot to hit up before going to a caps/wiz game or bowling at lucky strike.
I have been to bar louie many times and had a great time, but last time I went, every beer I wanted on draft was out (like 5 different kinds). The server said they had a bigger weekend than expected and were out of most the their beers.
Since I have been here a bunch and that has only happened once, I'll give it a pass. -

I would normally only give this place two stars, but they do have good appetizer specials during happy hour and some decent beer specials during the week.
There is nothing too memorable about Bar Louie. The best part about this establishment is that it is off the Red, Yellow & Green lines, a walkable distance from Metro Center (Blue & Orange) and located near the Verizon Center. If you want to drop in for a quick drink and bite before or game or after work, go for it. -

Terrible. I came here with a girlfriend on Saturday night and found a table near the bar. It took about 10 minutes before someone came over to us and when she finally did we quickly ordered our drinks. She left and came back with the wrong drink for my friend.. when it was sent back she said they were out of Captain Morgan and would you like Stoli instead? Um.. rum .. vodka... there is a difference
Anyway, we finally got the drink situation under wraps and ordered nachos. They were pretty nasty looking and drenched in nacho cheese so all the chips were soggy. We were so distraught by our experience we thought a shot would cheer us up. Two Soco and limes please... YUCK. That shot was seriously disgusting.. I don't know what kind of amateur bartender they have back there but that was NOT a Soco and lime. We asked for the check and after 15 minutes of watching the waitress frolic around she finally noticed us glaring at her and had a light blub moment to which she ran to fetch the check.
The music was HORRIBLE.. 5 years dated..
The crowd was boring..
The nachos made us both sick the next morning..
I would actually prefer Ruby Tuesday over this place. Some reviews said this is nothing but a "mall bar" .. agreed. -

Well.... the food here is great and so are the drinks. If it wasn't for their loaded fries (which I dream about during the week they're so good), I probably wouldn't frequent this place at all. Mainly because the service is terrible. Absolutely. Terrible. I noticed from other reviews that I'm not alone on this.

I am such a fan of Bar Louie. It is a bar, so it's a little loud at times. But it's a fun atmosphere for young professionals. I held a private party in the social room & it went extremely well. Love the girly drinks and I've enjoyed every dish I had. I am usually enjoying myself while I wait. Try for yourself.

Waited 10 minutes when it wasn't crowded at the bar and received no service. I mentioned this to the hostess as I left and she didn't seem to care. I guess there servers aren't interested in tips.

When I worked at Verizon Center a bunch of us used to come in for happy hour fairly frequently. The service was pleasant and the food is great. I just wish they still had the fried zucchini sticks!

We were walking up and down the street and since it was so cold this past weekend we decided to try out this place since we saw it was so crowded. The bar was full but we were able to get a booth less than five minutes. We made it there in time for Happy Hour.... 7 dollar martini and half off appetizers. The drinks were delicious but the boneless buffalo wings were not tasty at all. Overall it is a great place to hang out with friends when visiting DC...especially for Happy Hour.

Washington D.C., DC
Mediocre food and drink at inflated prices, brought to you (when they feel like it) by servers who would rather stand around chatting to each other than, say, come back and pick up the check so you could actually finish paying and leave.
Despite it being a pretty slow night, we enjoyed some good old-fashioned half-assed service - by the time we got our queso dip, it had been sitting in the bowl so long a pretty sturdy skin had formed, and we didn't get napkins or utensils until I asked for them after we got our meals. Finally, the waiter brought us a check with two burgers on it that we most definitely did not order. After waiting at least five minutes for him to return, I finally went looking for him - only to find him and another server standing at a booth occupied by their coworkers, chatting away like none of them was on the clock. Took several more minutes before he returned with the corrected check.
None of the employees here seems to have a clue as to what "work" means. Bar Louie's food and drink are neither good enough nor cheap enough for me to put up with servers who treat me like an annoyance. -

Went here after work with some co-workers (around 5pm) and the service SUCKED. We all ordered drinks...they completely made the wrong drink for someone...then it took them 20 minutes to get the "correct" drink to our table. The food was ok, not the best but it was wroth it for the happy hour prices. The service just sucked so bad i dont think I would ever come back. They were slow and unresponsive and looked like chicken with their heads cut off running around all over the place.

My work had our holiday party at Bar Louie. They served plain quesadillas with very minimal salsa and guacamole that ran out after only 25 people went through the line. They also served mini fried chicken balls, and hummus and pita. It was such a low value lunch. I can't believe how much we paid for such terrible food. The food was also not replenished sufficiently.
Also, the bar tenders ran my tab twice and charged me twice for my drinks. They claimed that they lost my tab and re-entered the order. Conveniently they found it later on that day. The last straw was that the bar tenders added an automatic 20% tip to my tab! Completely ridiculous, and undeserved! However, I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager and he reversed the second charge. So that was helpful. -

UPDATE: I learned from other Yelpers that the soda machine was broken that night. They do serve soda, it's just that the server didn't bother to clarify that. Carry on then.....
I was 86'ed here. Cut off. Turned away.
From soda.
Apparently Bar Louie does not serve coke. I ordered a coke with no ice, and watched a pained expression come over the server's face. She followed it up with ""We don't really have soda..." I shot a confused look at Ruth, and questioned the availability of carbonated beverages especially when you have a FULLY STOCKED BAR in need of mixers. I went with water.
I spent the rest of trivia night sulking. Why was I not good enough for a soda? Was I too foreign in my request for no ice? Should I have ordered Diet Coke? I ate a plate of french fries laden with bacon, scallions, and jalepanos (called giardiniera) and thought a coke with no ice would go well with this. Then I started eating jalepanos by themselves and do you know what would have really cut the heat? A coke with no ice.
Thanks to the funny trivia announcer and fellow yelpers my night here got better. I spent a good part of the night laughing at a neighboring team "poop chute" and their drunken antics.
As far as hanging out at Bar Louie of my own volition, other than grabbing a quick drink before a movie, I would not want to spend another 2.5 hours in this joint. It's a glammed up Applebees or TGI Fridays.Standard issue bar food, TVs all over the place, and despite that fact it was not crowded this place was strangely loud. So I will evaluate this place based on their motto:
Eat-Yes, I ate some nacho fries
Drink-I tried but you wouldn't let me.
Be Happy-I listened to a repeated Michael Buble song over the course of two hours without any caffiene running through my blood. Suck on this, annoying " I just haven't met you yet" song. NOT HAPPY.Listed in: What's a nice girl like you…

Walking into Bar Louie was like being at home in the humble and quiet Midwest again.
Only because the combo of Bar Louie and Lucky Strike Lanes in the same locale is actually just like being at fucking home in the "Metro Detroit" Suburban mecca that is Novi, Michigan, which also hosts nearby Louie's and Lucky's. Much like DC it is also chockablock full of pretentious fucks who like these places and love going to bars to grind up next to girls much too young for them.
The bar service is nothing to be amazed at, nor is the food, trivia, or crowd. It is a prime example of a chain bar that tries not to be one. Overall I'm not impressed, been there, done that, don't need to be doing again with a Caps crowd what I've already done with a Wings crowd. -
Review from Tara L.
Do not (I repeat DO NOT) order an Irish Car Bomb here. It will not resemble the Irish Car Bomb that you've come to know so well.
Here's a breakdown of the composition:
The norm: Guinness is poured into a pint glass.
Bar Louie: Guinness is poured into a tumbler.
The norm: Bailey's shot is poured into a shot glass, served separately from the pint of Guinness.
Bar Louie: Bailey's shot is served dumped upside down in the tumbler and left to curdle.
The norm: The bartender that serves the drink reacts in a concerned manner when patrons appear shocked and confused upon being served the drink they requested.
Bar Louie: The bartender explains that's just how it's done here.
The first bartender I encountered here unfortunately was just getting off her shift after a few short sips of my beer - she was great. The bartender that followed, not so much. Luckily, there was one gentleman behind the bar that was apologetic and engaging.
No real desire to come back here unless it's a destination to meet people after a game. Even then, I'd suggest somewhere else nearby.
The only highlight for me? They carry MGD64.
(Yes...please revoke -2 cool points from me immediately. But hey, a 5:30pm car bomb might earn me back +1 of those?) -

This place is the pits! I have been to Bar Louie on many occasions, as I work very close by. Never have I ever received good service, other than the time (during the day) when the bartender was obviously
bored and became overbearing. Once I took a friend who didn't enjoy what she ordered at all. The manager was exceedingly rude in the event; even going so far as to make an exasperated face in my direction about the customer I had brought in her restaurant with me! Today I went there with another friend and sat at the bar. We were there for over 10 minutes before we left for Rocket Bar because no one even bothered to bring us a glass of water or take our order. Every member of their staff I have ever met is disgruntled, slow, and attitudinal.
Moral of the story: if you want some overly salted food and Effin Cucumber vodka, go to Bar Louie! You'll have a BLAST paying escalated prices and having a mediocre time! -
Review from Ashley K.
Visited here last night because a friend had some punch cards from Groupon for half off beers and appetizers. It was of course PACKED as many events get when there is a LivingSocial or Groupon deal going on. But the crowd died down pretty quick once happy hour was over.
They have a good beer selection, including a variety of seasonal beers on tap. Their happy hour prices aren't bad ($3 for drafts). We also got half-off appetizers from the punch cards. I got a shrimp quesadilla. It was listed under "small plates", but it was actually pretty big, and we got it for half off, so you really can't beat it! It was flavorful and filling.
Service is decent. We did wait awhile at times to order, but it was mostly because of how crowded the place was. The bar tenders were running their tails off, and honestly there wasn't enough room behind the bar for them to have had any extra bartenders. So overall, I was happy with the service. -

I think this is up there with one of my worst ever dining experiences, certainly in DC. Its sad, cause the location and the physical setup of the place could be used for greatness, but instead they prop up a bar that would otherwise never make the cut.
The first and most tragic problem is the service. Should be the easiest issue to fix, but judging by the majority of reviews its been this way for a while. These are some of the laziest waitresses I have ever seen. Not to exclude men, there just were none working on the night I was there. Its almost like they want to go for a wannabe Hooters vibe, which seems strange as non of the waitstaff were very attractive. They sat around congregating at the reception or by the cash register and gave little to no attention to the customers.
We came in before 7 for some beer and appetizers before an 810 movie next door. We were seated, and then waited for 15 minutes before seeing anyone approached the table. We ordered some appetizers and beers. 10 min later they came back to say one of our beers was out. The beers showed up another 10 min later. At this point we were approaching movie time and had no food and very little to drink. We wound up having to switch the appetizers to 'to go' and woofing down some of them on the way up. Even starving, they were pretty horrible.
I normally don't want to see a business tank, but if one day this one is gone I'll certainly understand why. -

Went here, got a Capitol Deal punch card. Was at a bar table with 7 of us, service was kind of slow. Half price apps and $3 beers. I'm not sure the punch card thing was worth it, because they already have a happy hour, so it's only worth it if you go during non happy hour, which seemed to end around 7 pm. Food is pretty decent, wings are juicy and not dry, pizza tasty.
Two people showed up much later, and we were about to pay the bill and I asked that their food be separated from our bill since we wanted to settle since several people from the initial party were leaving. So I settled the bill and it was fine. When the two late comers got their bill, one guy noticed right away that they'd been auto gratuitied. They argued and got that taken off. We thought it was odd. Later I looked at my bill, and noticed that yes, she had auto gratuited us for 18% as well. I tipped her on top so she got quite a huge tip. Not deserved at all. The service was really not that good. Slow and she disappeared for long periods. Yes, should have looked more closely, but you're full of beers and don't really pay attention. I hate you S- the sucky waitress. I hope the tip karma gets you back. I will never sit in your section again. -

What can I say....?
My food was very good. I enjoyed my chorizo quesadilla and guac.
The brother eating the mac and cheese next to me looked so good - the food, not the man.
The prices are fair and decent for average bar food.
The service was unattentive. The bartender was MIA most of the time.
They have a lot of flat screens to watch sporty game nights. It's the ultimate sausage fest.
The noise level can get loud and rowdy depending who you sit next to.
Decent local sports bar to catch a game or two. Go Caps. (I'm obligated to say that, but I'm secretly a Rangers fan) -

Do NOT ever use this place for a private function!!! They bumped my group two days before our event for a larger group and didn't even call to tell me. I was calling to send my final headcount and they told me they could no longer accommodate us. Are you serious? Who does that?

Mayebe I went on a bad night, maybe this is just a horrible bar..
I've been to Bar Louie's in other cities and this by far is the worst one I have ever been too. The bar smelled of dirty mop water, the waiter must have forgotten we were there and the drinks were extremely overpriced and not really that good.. After one drink my friend and I decided to find a place with more than 4 people in it on a Friday night and had a little more of a bar scene..
Can't really say much of the food at this location since we were really just out looking for a place for good drinks. -

Typical Conversation About Bar Louie:
Q: Hey, have you heard of Bar Louie?
A: Ummm... no.
Q: The bar in Chinatown next to the bowling alley with a dress code?
A: Ummm...... ??
Q: The one in the mall with a really generic mall vibe?
A: Oh... yeah, why?
Q: Happy hour at 6!!
A: .......
I was shocked to see that 2 people gave this place 5 stars - Paola G. and Paul M, I'm looking at you now. I was shocked because I had no idea what possible metric you were using to give this perfectly generic mall bar with uninteresting patrons, shitty decor, and only half-way decent specials five stars. Then, just when I was about to give this place one star and be done with it, I realized what Paul and Paola were thinking! Ah ha!
Much like Fur Nightclub, this bar is the PERFECT mall bar, and so deserves five stars. It gets one star for being in a mall. One star for being completely bland. One star for having a whole mess of flat screen TVs, and 2 stars for being next to a bowling alley. Wahoo!!
Be forewarned, like most Chinatown offerings, this place feels like the 90s, and not the cool grunge 90s - the not-as-cool Hanson, NSYNC 90s. So, if you are looking for a bland ol' time, come on down, grab a pint, and enjoy the best mall bar in the city. -
Review from Ruth C.
The bar entrance is inside the center, not on the street. This would have been good to know beforehand, but at least I got some nice exercise in before the 2.5-hour game of Monday night trivia.
If I were my fellow beerhounds, my review would start and end with, "The beer of the month is Corona. 'Nuff said."
But I'm me, so I'll laud the fairly clean bathroom stalls, varied seating options, an attempt at giving a clubby soundtrack during late hours, and the multiple TVs arranged over the plain chain-sports-pub tap selection (I wasn't feeling the Dogfish 60 minute IPA that night, nor the Shock Top). Had I tasted nothing but the traditional crispy calamari, I may have leaned towards 3 stars for including tentacle pieces. The buffalo style calamari wasn't really my thing since the sauce was mild to begin with. The boneless buffalo wings were denser and garnished with angle-cut lengths of green onion, and a sad stick of celery a little past its prime. We got to ogle the bruschetta they mistakenly brought us instead of Mike T's pretzels, but really the attraction was all relative. The Bavarian pretzels were quite phallic and I sampled the thick cinnamon butter that could've used more whipping and less cinnamon. The loaded fries were an attempt at innovation in mixing super nachos with loaded baked potatoes: fries in chile con queso (presumably to congeal less firmly at room temp than grated cheese), topped with a light sprinkling of a coarse-chopped bacon strip, finely chopped scallions, and a healthy amount of sliced giardinieras.
Kudos for at least applying our gift certificate prize to our current bill instead of making us return to use it. I'm not sure why the waitress told Sahar, "We don't really have soda..." when she asked for Coke, no ice, when I saw "Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite" on the bottomless beverage menu. I mean, really you lost out on the gamble that she'd get beer over water. But in general, they meant well. Thanks to Rob (the transplanted trivia host subbing in from Bethesda) for curbing my pub rage at Team P00ps0ck at the next table over-- I don't think two woo-girls were enough for them. Who knows, I may even come back for $1-burger Tuesdays. -

I want to like to this place, I really really do. The location cannot be beat and as a Caps season ticket holder access to the Verizon Center is always a key in deciding where to meet up pre-game, but Bar Louie just doesn't cut it, anymore.
Service is almost always poor. Their happy hour specials advertise that all draft beers are $3 during HH 4-7 p.m. but rarely is it adhered to and get fight back from waitstaff when we question. Food is meh (with the exception of the pretzels, those are worth the poor service).
It's pointless to write this review, since they are almost always busy before Verizon Center events and people on "dates" (so confused why you would ever bring a date to a sports bar) so there is no need to edit their practices but SO wish they would. -

I went here for after-dinner drinks.
I ordered 1 drink. It ended up being a somewhat expensive sugar-bomb. That's fine, it's a bar at the freaking mall, so my expectations are low.
Looking at my original receipt and the itemized statement on my charge card, it looks like the waitress added a bit of money to her tip. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!
The amount is not worth disputing, and I'm moving out soon anyways. But potential customers beware -- make sure you save your receipts and check afterwards. Taking a little extra money from every tab probably results in a sweet profit. -
Review from Tom N.
Ever been to one of those places where nothing goes well? This place must be a tourist trap or something because there is no reason for it to be as crowded as it was. The mixed drinks were bad, the sangria was bland, and the beer was... okay actually. Servers were super nice, but the prices were definitely not worth it. Try Lucky Strike instead if you like burning cash for no good reason in Chinatown.

This place looks pretty nice on the inside, especially considering I've been going to Iron Horse and McFadden's. I don't really drink, but I do play Big Buck Hunter at bars. Don't bother playing it here-- they didn't leave enough space for a player to stand and hold a rifle, so it's like playing Duck Hunt on an 8-bit Nintendo as an 8 year old right up against the TV. Except with a rifle it's harder to get the corners when you're pressed up against the screen. Also, it's just the basic game, only deer here. -
Review from Sean B.
There is no other place I'd less like to be than here prior a Caps games. It's a complete disaster. Packed and crowded, best to be avoided. The food is about as ordinary as can be while the beer selection is matched or surpassed by every other bar in the city. Why go here?? I guess because it is next to the Verizon Center? It has cheap macrobrew (uh, yay i guess) during happy hour? If I were to ever pre-game before going into the Center, I most definitely would choose Iron Horse or RFD over this venue.
1 star before caps games and other big verizon center events, 3 stars the rest of the time. -

Disaster, from the terrible bartender to the horrible management.
I came before the Brittany Spears concert at the request of a friend. I was served my first beer in a chipped glass. After getting the attention of the less than focused bartender, she simply poured it into a new glass and topped it off. Halfway through this new beer, the cup suddenly broke in two, drenching me and my lady friend. The bartender came over and served me a new beer and my check. No apology or sympathy.
Once I contacted Corporate they got me in touch with the local manager. He offered me a free dinner and to pay for my dry cleaning. I emailed him the next day and followed up with a call to make arrangements and never heard back. Not a word.
I wish the place would have fallen victim of the economic downturn. Terrible service, terrible management, and terrible atmosphere. Dont waste your time, money or energy. I would not wish my experience on anyone. -

Terrible place. I should have been warned when the waitress was "busy" with a server in the back instead of working. We were then informed that Bar Louie was no longer taking our Capital Deal we had paid for (capital deal said they were and the restaurant was mistaken). They were out of the first 3 drinks we ordered and the waitress couldn't pronounce most of the wines on the wine list. This place is an embarrassment to the DC area.

If you're coming here to watch the game and drink beer by the bar, then you're good to go. If you're in the market for a real sit down meal complete with waitress service, fugetaboutit!
My friends and I learned this the hard way when we dropped in on a Saturday night after catching a movie at the nearby theater. The place was pretty dead and we had a big group (10 people), so we thought it best to grab a table rather than sit by the bar. Our waitress started off by taking our drink orders. After a pretty long span of time, she came by with half of the drinks and then asked the rest of us to remind her which drinks we had ordered. I guess she had forgotten what we had ordered in the sixty seconds it took her to walk from our table to the bar.
After another long wait, the waitress brought the rest of the drinks and we placed our food orders. Most of us ordered something simple like spinach dip, nachos, or chicken wings (your typical bar fare), but it seemed like these simple dishes took forever to come out. My spinach dip wasn't piping hot and tasted bland. My pomegranate martini was watered-down.
Verdict: The food and service sucks. Watching a game on one of the flat screen TVs is the only real draw at this sports bar. -

I met a few friends here to grab some food and drinks before we went to the club. In a nut shell..
My server was drunk.
The pasta was nasty.
The server gave us a free appetizer, because he was drunk.
The fish n Chips seemed wayy more appetising than my meal, which he kindly took off the bill. So instead of eating, I decided to drink. Only problem is after Round 1, it took him almost 30 minutes to get round 2! whata buzzkill. Ran out of time and never made it to round 3.
Id go back , I mean its just a bar. -

My friend and I went to an inpromptu lunch one day. She recommended the place due to the $6 lunch specials. But alas, the time had elapsed, and we had the grand option to spend $10.99 on a sandwich (gr888t).
I proceed...
I ordered the fish poboy with the black beans and a cup of gumbo. I am a sucker for N'awlins cuisine. Now albeit the cost was greater than $40 lunch for two, no alcohol, the meal was filling and delicious.
I was full out of my mind (and belly), but all I wanted to do was order another sandwich ("NOOOO" yelled my pockets).
With all the tvs around the bar, it was quite loud. And the stickiness of the floor and tables reminded me of a club or college bar. But if I close my eyes real tight, chew slowly, and blank out on the bill, it's definitely a pleasurable experience. -

I've been in a few times. Friday evening service was terrible. Chicken wings came out cold to the touch, twice. After returning the still cold wings a second time (also note I ordered en fuego and they came out regular buffalo) the manager came over to me and asked me to bite into a cold wing as "I just took them out of the oven."
Note to manager, wings are supposed to be fried for 3-5 minutes, not baked. Maybe that's why you served me wings that were still frozen to the touch.
Maybe for beer before a game, but it's more likely that Clyde's will get my business. -

I came here for the first time yesterday afternoon at around 4:00. The dinner rush obviously hadn't started yet so it was quiet, much more so than it is at later times, I'm assuming. I'd passed by this place so many times before but I finally got my chance to try it!
The booth was so cozy - definitely allowed for intimacy! I got the Blue Cheese Pear Salad (or maybe it was the other way around, but it had pears and blue cheese!) Since I absolutely hate cheese on my salads, I got it without the blue cheese. The waitress was really nice, considering we'd never been here and had no idea how anything worked, and explained all the options for the salad. The food itself was great - I can't say much about my partner's food but I enjoyed what I got!
If I'm in the area, I wouldn't mind coming here again -

Good food and good service. Our waitress was very attentive and I thought the service was above average.
Food: Delicious pulled pork sandwich with fries. I would definitely get that again. My friend devoured her Jalapeno corn dogs and wished she'd gotten two orders!
This is definitely a sports bar, so be ready to have some yelling at a TV go on around you. The world series was on when we were there and a bunch Giants fans were yelling at the TV. I didn't let them know I was from Texas. The restaurant is really big and there are a variety of places to sit. It's definitely a good group place.
Metro station: get off at Gallery place/Chinatown on the Red line.Listed in: Sanity or Fear?

I was actually pleasantly surprised with this place. You have to know what you're going into. Obviously this isn't a place with fine dining glaring from the front door...ITS A SPORTS BAR. Lots of TV's to watch plenty of games. A big open space so you don't feel crowded. Fun vibe coming from the patrons.
Our waitress was super friendly..a bit inexperienced, but exactly what one would expect from a sports bar. the food was GREAT. i had the fried louie-a burger with bacon, cheese and a fried egg on it. runny...like soaked my bun and made it extra yummy. pulled pork sandwich-eh, but my friend seemed to like it. regardless-def a stop in for a good beer and burger.
they do have fantastic happy hours so check them out early.
