I recently lost my banh mi virginity here.  I'd been hearing about these amazing Vietnamese sandwiches and finally a friend brought me to Banh Mi Saigon Bakery; having apparently done his homework and located the tastiest banh mi in Chinatown.

The place is carryout only, which is a bit of a drag considering the limited options for sitting somewhere outdoors in this neighborhood.  We ended up walking up Mott and found a bench; I'd have sat on the curb if necessary...the sandwich was that good!

The trick here is to arrive sometime before noon, after that you'll spend forever waiting in line.  We arrived about 11:30 on a weekday and waited about 15 mins to get our food.  Also, the bread they make themselves is better eaten earlier in the day.

I'll be back for more very soon!

I probably should qualify this by saying I'm new to banh mi. I had my first sandwich just days before my move from Chicago to NYC about 2 months ago and fell in love. To the point that I wasn't satisfied with one sandwich and wanted another, but abstained, so as not to seem like a complete fat ass.

In light of restaurant/store's weird setup, it's hard to tell what's the actual line and who is just waiting for food. Nevertheless, I finally found the nonexistent order line and placed my order for 2 chicken banh mi sandwiches (thinking I'd be getting one small sandwich as I did in Chicago; forewarning: bad move). There was a notable wait, which I spent as others did, perusing the jewelry in the shore which shares space with the restaurant, and listening to some hipsters rave about CMJ.

When I got my food and checked the bag, I saw what seemed like 4 sandwiches. At first, I thought it was a mistake, but then my brain finally caught up and realized one order came with two sandwich halves. (Yesss, banh mi in the footlong size my glutton ass dreamed of! But d'oh, because now I'll be eating banh mi for every meal of the day).

I was so eager to try the sandwich, I started chowing down while waiting for the train. Upon the first bite, I was overwhelmed with YUM, which was good considering I had 3 more to eat.

The sandwiches apparently were so good that I not once-not twice-but three times had to pray my roommate's cat (who admittedly probably has compulsive overeating disorder) from my sandwiches. Good times.

While I agree with most that the carrot, radish and cucumbers are a tasty delight.... my mind still questions the "pork". It is sweet, but I can't be 100% sure it is pork. It is covered with a sweet sauce and fried beyond recognition. It could be tofu. GASP!

While they are very inexpensive I would try the chicken. Hopefully I would recognized that meat and hopefully they would give me more.  If you are looking for a sandwich with more meat you may need to add your own.

My parents raised their children with exquisite Asian palettes. They were smart enough to give a place two tries before giving them the GO or NO-GO markup (long before the invention of Yelp). Saigon gets the GO. Banh mi/Sandwiches are by far some of the best around. I can't say the same for the baked goods and desserts though.

#1 Special spicy/mild.

When I find a place in NYC where they have good 'bun bo,' it'll be a good runner for five stars.

Saigon is definitely worth the craving satisfaction. Stop after the sandwiches.

Excellent little place in the middle of Chinatown. Be sure to also get the 75 cents soydrink to go along with the sandwich. Well worth your money.

As for the sandwich, the blend of grilled pork, carrots, radish and cucumber was just great. One second they were in my mouth and the next they were appreciatively making their way down my esophagus. The pork was well grilled and kept its warmth, even as it sits in the bread. That, combined with the chilled veggie was a savory contrast of hot and cold. My only regret was not enjoying the sandwich longer before uncontrollably gulping down every single bite... minus the bread. The bread was sooooo OVERLY toasted that it almost hurts to eat. I had to gingerly bite on it to make sure it wouldn't puncture the roof of my mouth, which was quite hard to do while walking. But this sandwich has a lot of potential, a lot... if only the bread was softer.

I'm a big fan of Banh Mi but I've had better.
The banh mi place on St. Mark's is much better in my opinion but this is a great little spot for warm weather picnic style sandwiches.
I don't reccomend the jewelry.

dumb dumb give me yum yum, i.e. banh mi.

i love this spot. i've had their pork and their meatball.. both great. healthy amount of cilantro (no amount of cilantro is too much), options to make it spicy or not, and crispy delicious bread. pate already inside the pork banh mi.

just don't make the same mistake i did once by ordering the sammies and then take them uptown bc the daikon will soak into the bread and render it mushy. NG.

might stop by this place tonight on my bi-weekly vietnamese food trek.

literally a hidden jewel in a jewerly store!

Completely inconspicuous and unpretentious.
DELICIOUS TO EVERY LAST MORSEL.

The spicey pork banh mi sandwich is the absolute way to go. The spicey kick comes from the tangy/ pickled carrot and radish mix which compliments the sweet carmelized pork.

1 sandwiched filled me for hrs and talk about $ cheap.

Can't go wrong with the triple combo: cheap, delicious and filling.

I've been eating their sandwiches for over 20 years when it first started out underneath Manhattan Bridge and seen as totally strange and pungent to gringos. As a teen I would bring these sandwiches to work and coworkers would wrinkle their noses and ask what is that smell(fishsauce)? And what is in that? All eyes would dart at me and I would be regulated to eat in the back corner of the table during lunch break.

How times have changed. Now its all over the place and if you didn't know what a banh mi is then suddenly your the weird one!

They used to operate on one small toaster oven back in the days and I would have to place my order 30 minutes ahead of time or risk standing and waiting. Nowadays, I can just run in and run out. Quality has remained the same, excellent and fresh.

I love this place!

A decent banh mi, I'd say.

3.75 stars, rounded up.

Pros:
+ Cheap! $3.75 for the #1 pork sandwich!  Good pricing.
+ The sandwich is HUGE.  I eat a lot of banh mi in my hometown of San Francisco since there's a lot of great Viet places there, but I've never had one quite as huge as this one.  I split one with my friend, and it effectively stuffed me for the rest of the day.
+ The pork is delish.

Cons:
- Too much radish, though that's a personal preference.  I could go for a little less of that orange and white stuff.
- The bread wasn't the best I've tried; in fact, it was the kind that hurts the roof of the your mouth when you bite into it.  Owww.

It's a little weird that the sandwich shop is in the back of a jewelry store, that was totally a WTF moment.  I mean, that's still pretty tight, though.  Weird but cool.

Overall, it was a tasty sandwich, with good meat and so-so bread.  I've had much better banh mi sandwiches, and I think this sandwich would be more awesome if the bread had a better crispycrunchy, not-painful texture.  Sometimes, it really is all about the bread.

If you're walking by, though, and need a quick, cheap, and reliable meal, this place satisfies all those requirements and should stuff you in no time.  Wash it down with a bottle of soymilk, conveniently available at the store and also cheap!

I decided to trek to the northern realm of Chinatown in search of banh mi rumored to be better than Sau Voi's.  I got there a little past 1:30 thinking it was late enough for lunch to guarantee a shorter line.  Think again.  I had forgotten the cardinal rule- tourists don't care that it's your lunch time.   When I say tourists, you know who I'm talking about.  Those folks with cameras slung over their necks, looking quite timid among the Asian customers in this shop.

I like that they have seating against the wall since it was going to be awhile before my number was going to be called.  I was given #41 and they were only up to #20 when I placed my order.  I watched the guy next to me consume his banh mi ravenously.   You can see without being told that the bench was not put there for customers to eat their sandwiches in house- it's way too crowded for that- but he ignored all the signals and was in his own world of happy consumption.   I marveled at his enthusiasm and it gave me hope that I would be just as rapturous soon enough.

After 20 minutes, my number came up and I got my pork banh mi to go.  I brought it back to the office and realized that the pork was fried and crunchy and kinda sweet?   This became an involved meal, demanding lots of chewing on the pork and the bread, and due to its hefty size, even more chewing to be had.  At the end of it, my jaws were tired and I was ready to take a nap.  Isn't banh mi supposed to be a light meal?  This one is a whole different animal.   I'll come back to try the other flavors, but if I want a plain one, I'm sticking to the one at Sau Voi.

Oh YEAH.

The best vietnamese sandwiches, ever!

I followed them from when they were under the Manhattan bridge with their dingy quarters and dank little oven... to their slightly bigger store in the back of a jewelry shop.

Hmm, just walking up the steps to the store you can smell the aroma of the sandwich.

Get the regular sandwich - you really can't go wrong. The pork is nice and salty and has a different taste to it, and the veggies that go with it add a sweet and tangy taste to it. Add to the crunchy bread and you've got yourself an excellent meal for about 5 bucks.

As my first ever Banh Mi, this was fast, cheap, big, and rather delicious.  I loved the candied pork, which wasn't the most tender, but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be.  The pickled carrots and radish slaw was my favorite part of the sandwich, and for $5, I ate it for 2 meals.  But was the bun supposed to be this chewy?  I felt that the bread could be a bit fresher.

The most exciting part, of course, is that it's in the back of a jewelry store.  In fact, after making my sandwich, the lady had to take off her gloves, walk over to the jewelry section, and be the salesperson too.  Classic multitasking!

Did I walk in to a jewelry or sandwich shop? Oh wait... I guess it's both! It's a funny combination. I can't comment on the jewelry because I didn't buy any but the Banh Mi sandwiches are awesome! Don't be intimidated going in here if you aren't Vietnamese. They seem to speak pretty decent English and it doesn't seem sketchy at all. I think this place has gotten lots of publicity and I'm sure the owners love it.

I got the spicy Banh Mi Ga which is the chicken and it was extremely tasty and absolutely delicious. I am so excited to come back here for another sandwich. Some of the other menu options seem interesting (or rather strange), like the Sardines. Maybe I'll even try one of the other menu items at some point.

Sometimes on Yelp, Word of Mouth unveils gastronomical Elyism!  And sometimes it merely allows a whole in the wall to be tested by the purest of Democracies.  Either way, I love YELP...and find it's use indispensable.

But let's be honest about Banh Mi Saigon.  It's good Banh Mi, but:

-ALL BANH MI IS CHEAP
-ALL BANH MI IS FAST
-ALL BANH MI IS TASTY
-ALL BANH MI SHOULD BE IN THE BACK OF A JEWLRY STORE (and if it's not, it should be in the cellar of a chicken farm, or in the loft of a chop shop, or the meat locker of slaughter house)...this is why we love Banh Mi...it's as if Vietnamese People, perpetually full of glee after the French introduced the Baguette, started cranking out savory sandwiches at the drop of a hat for lunch no matter what circumstances or environments they found themselves in.

I love this sandwich...as many of you do.  I need to be fair to it!  And in all fairness NEW YORK has plenty of it to go around...Even more than Los Angeles where Little Saigon's exist in pluralistic wonderment.

In Los Angeles, if you want Banh Mi (Best or just OK) you got to the San Gabriel Valley (Alhambra/San Gabriel/Monterey Park) area...or you travel to Orange County's Little Saigon (Westminster/Garden Grove)...and even then you're looking at primarily PHO.

In New York, what I see is primarily Banh Mi...and I see a lot of it.  Especially in the Chinatown Area, Brooklyn and Queens.

You'd think that Southern Californians...caged forever inside our fanshionable Prius' and 300 Series BMW's would be the ones grabbing any cultural offering of a sandwich and jamming it down our throats on the GO.

WRONG!

It's New Yorkers that love breed of Fast Ethnic Food because it's cheap and usually hand held.  HAND HELD AND CHEAP are mutually exclusive fast food characteristics in New York.

Since everything in Los Angeles outside of eating a Carl's Jr. Big Ass Taco (Fuck you, I'm eating) is predicated on the need to park a car, get out, enter a restaurant and order....WHY NOT SIT DOWN AND EAT SOUP...OR MAKE A SHAWARMA SO MESSY, IT TOO IS RELEGATED TO A PLATE...or a Burrito for that matter (Chipotle Bowl).

It seems that Subway, a New York creation, lends further proof...being the most popular SAVE MONEY and SIT DOWN for Lunch on the 3rd street promenade food...no one's driving through a subway..."not never, not no how!" -The Wizard of OZ

No construction workers are grabbing a Spicy Italian on the go and eating it while they drive their truck back to the Condominium Development from the Fast Food Intersection 5 miles away.

THE FAST SANDWICH!  ALL NEW YORK!  THE CHEAPER THE BETTER!  THE MORE IT"S PACKED WITH OUT OF THE NORM INGREDIENTS THE BETTER!...Banh Mi, Gyro, Hot Dog, Samosa, Rotti, Calzone, Pizza, etc.

---------------------------------

Banh Mi is Vietnamese Sandwich on a French Baguette.  Usually Pork or Chicken Meat with Pickled Veggies and Fresh Cilantro.

Banh Mi Saigon uses a spicy sauce rather than fresh Jalepenos.  I prefer the later.

There's just got to be better Banh Mi out there...especially from what others are saying.

The Pork was not even tender meat on this one...just the caramelized sugary substance that should normally encapsulate the tender meat.  That was a disappointment.  I've also had better bread.

GOOD $.
COOL EXPERIENCE - BACK OF A JEWELRY  STORE.

There's better...keep searching.

It's so weird.  I came to this place looking for gems and jewelry and we left with spicy pork banh mi.  Of course, I had mine without cilantro because I don't care for the distinct flavor.  It was delicious and again Yelp didn't steer me wrong.  Two "number ones" and two iced teas for $11.50.  I left the bakery sans jewelry but my belly and wallet were content.

Wait.

So. Nobody else came here for jewelry?

"You are number one."

"That means your order number is one."
The woman waiting beside us smiles in her attempt to decipher the man behind the counter's directions. We understood the orders quite perfectly but no doubt looked out of place and in awe of this teeny-tiny, sandwich shop slash jewelry store nestled amongst the bustling sidewalks of China Town.

Both of us ordered the number 1. About $8 for two massive pork sandwiches jammed with fresh veggies and crazy spicy stuff.

10min wait.
Very tasty.
Very inexpensive.
I will return.
With that, I say to Banh Mi Saigon....YOU are number one!

I almost feel bad giving a bad review to this place. Almost.

Yes, the banh mi are good (albeit not cheap), the ingredients fresh and crunchy, and the banh mi counter hidden at the back of a jewelry store sorts of spices up the whole adventure (in fact, I think that's a brilliant idea!).

But how come that Asian customers are allowed to cut the line, go straight to the front, bark their order, and get their banh mi before everybody else?! Discriminating against non-Asians? Ouch! I think I just choked on my banh mi!

BEST VIET SANDWICH!
not only is it good, it's cheap.  $3.75 gets you this sandwich filled with chopped pork and veggies.  add some hot sauce and this thing is unbelievable.  I would eat this everyday but it isn't very healthy.
only downside is the store is closed on mondays.

Yes, this place is in a jewelry store.  So if you want a jade bracelet, look to your left.  If you want a yummy Vietnamese sandwich, then head straight to the back.

Oh, and this place, though Yelp says it's located in Little Italy, looks a lot like it's in Chinatown.

It's $4.25 for a chicken Vietnamese sandwich, which yes, is pretty pricey for me, but I've had some crappy sandwiches for less or even for around the same price, so I guess this earns it's money.  Ingredients were fresh and tasty.  AND THEY ACTUALLY HAD THE PICKLED DAIKON AND CARROTS PACKAGED TO GO!  I've been looking for a store that does this back in SF cause I've been wanting to try my hand at making my own Vietnamese sandwich (totally obsessed with them right now) but this is the only place I've seen. =/

We also got 3 shrimp wrap type things for $5.  It's kinda like fresh lumpia, but obviously has a shrimp filling.  T'was aiight.

The minor issue I had with this wonderful sandwich was that all the meat to one side, the cucumber was stuck in the middle, and the rest of the filling was on the other side.  Was sorely disappointed with the segregation goin on in my 'which.  Everything's better if we all mix it together.  Examples:  Pinapple on pizza.  Guinness and Bailey's.  Fries dipped in milkshake.  I'd go on but after that last example I feel like a heifer.

The sandwiches are so fulfilling here that I'll eat half for lunch and save the other half for dinner. At $3.75 - which is expensive for a non-NY banh mi - this is one of the best quality lunch deals in the city.

And in the tradition of the best places to eat in Vietnam, the great food is hidden by dodgy trappings, in this case, a jewelry counter that makes up the front of the shop and that I've never seen actually sell jewelry. It's an appendix, but it provides a nice hidden-away ambiance, even if there's no room to sit and eat.

This is one of Boyfriend's favorites, so I was glad to finally get a chance to try it. We ordered two to split: the pate and the meatball. The only thing that is holding me back from five stars is that the pate banh mi, while tasty, still kind of grossed me out. I should have gone for the regular pork variety, but Boyfriend insisted and it ended up being a little too exotic for my tastes. The pate is kind of white and spongy. Not appetizing. It tasted fine, but every time I went to take another bite, I would see what I was eating and have to convince myself to keep going. Mind over matter baby. I'd love to go back and try the plain pork one. The meatball, on the other hand is just fantastic. Yummy yum yum. Wow.

So basically, I think the banh mi is genius. Love the vegetables, love the chewy bread. Not so sold on the pate as a stand alone sandwich, but otherwise they have a good good thing going on. Love that they are just chilling in the back of a jewelry shop, and love that these things are so cheap! Boyfriend definitely picked out a winner here!

This place is solid for cheap, decent banh mi.  While I sat inside eating my #1 spicy (not made to order--it already sitting in the bag when I ordered), people of all colors came in to order.  That's cool.  It was also interesting that it's in a jewelry shop but does not make the food taste any better.

It's just average, solid, good cheap sandwich.  Not especially fresh (bread is not delish, nope).  And the "Vietnamese iced coffee" is also not fresh, having sat in a plastic pitcher for who knows how long...again, nothing special.  Better to get some fresh milk tea at Ten Ren's or someplace else.

There is some hype about this place.  The woman behind the counter was jolly.  I liked that.  Would drop by here for a cheap bite.  But people, there must be better places in the city??  I'd love to know where.

When you first look into the windows of this bakery, you think you're walking into a jewelry shop. The front part of the store sells all kinds of necklaces, bracelets, and rings...but the real gem of this place is in the back at the deli-style counter. For $3.75, get the #1 - the pork sandwich, and you will feel like you've uncovered a diamond in the rough. You get a great portion for the price, authentically Vietnamese, and tantalizingly delicious. Go. Just go.

There have been a recent explosion of Vietnamese Bánh mì sandwiches around the city. They even opened a sandwich shop by my school in the Murray Hill section of Manhattan.

I'll be honest, my first experience with these scrumptulous sandwiches was merely two years ago. My friend suggested that I should try a Vietnamese sandwich because he had a Vietnamese ex whom introduced him to it. Ironically the place we went to in Flushing, Queens ran out of sandwiches that day. The same day I picked up a Maxim magazine where they had a full page feature on Bahn Mi Saigon. Hell I'll try anything on a Maxim full page ;-)

Keep in mind this place is CLOSED on Mondays, I had countless attempts to have banh mi sandwiches on Mondays only to forget that they're closed. Located in the rear of the store they share a space with a Chinese jewelery shop. These pork sandwiches are so delicious and crisp, and best part is they're only $3.75 take that five dollar foot-longs.

The best part of these sandwiches is the fresh cilantro and pork bits. Each place makes them differently (more reviews to come) but Bahn Mi Saigon have very fine bits of pork. The pickled carrots and cilantro is made just right and the fresh slivers of cucumbers give it a nice crunch. All this is neatly wrapped and cut in half then nicely brown bagged for you. This is the best banh mi I've had in New York. How can you not try one?

Positives: Price, taste, best banh mi in the city
Negatives: Strictly a take out place, unless you want to sit on the few benches. Sometimes the baguette can be too hard.

i'm more a baoguette fan; it was good, but my (VN) wife and i are still looking for bahn mi on which we can agree is our go-to place.

that said, this is her fave thus far in manhattan (we found a place in BKLN that we both enjoy more).

my fave bahn mi was a very simple rendition in HCMC, and nothing here has lived up to it.

I've been eating these sandwiches ever since they had their original shop under the Manhattan Bridge.  I really do miss that location, every time I walked by I could smell the deliciousness brewing in that little storefront, no bigger than my room.  It was also nice that it was much closer than their new location.

Although their sandwiches are still amazing, I feel that there has been a slight difference in taste since they moved, but now there's a LOT more room and a lot more sandwiches (running out at ~5pm as opposed to 3pm).

Needless to say, these sandwiches have everything you could possibly need, and probably one of the top 3 values in Chinatown!  Friendly owner and...brother(?) I believe.

Nothing beats a nice pork sandwich & soy drink!

Now, I don't even live in New York anymore and the taste of this Perfect Bahn Mi still lingers on my palette. It's everything a Bahn Mi should be, sweet, spicy, a hint of crunch and beautiful. I would avoid coming here during the lunch hour rush, but if you've got that craving, sometimes it can't be avoided.

The day I return to NYC, will be a joyous occasion.

I waited 15 min for just one sandwich... and on top of that the owner was just rude and nasty with me when i asked for extra peppers.  the sandwich was ok not the greatest  but the owner (some fat vietnamese lady seemed very cocky).  I don't see why. I admit for 3.75 it was a bargain but the sandwich hurt my gums, after my lunch my mouth was aching and sore, Meat was way too hard. Tasty but hard.  from my experience there I have no reason to go back. especially with the experice of waiting and attitude from that bitch

Banh Mi is my new favorite food so no surprise I'm giving it 4 stars! More like 4.5 stars. (Yelp needs to add half star capability!) It's kinda cool that it's located in the same store as a jewelry.

There's no real place to sit but who cares. The beauty of banh mi is that you can eat it while walking around! One will DEFINITELY fill you up. So much food. Wow. And what? It's only $3.75? Double wow.

#1, spicy.

I walked in, ordered, paid, got food and walked out in under 3 minutes.

Holla

I've never had Vietnamese Sandwiches before. My first ignorant question when it came to this mighty sandwhich was, "What's in it?"
The reply, "Carrots, cucumbers and meat!" Ok you've got my attention. The first sandwich I tried was the pork one. Crispy, sweet, spicy, and the baguette had a hard crust, and soft inside. My eyes became big, and watery. It was then I realized I was chewing on my fingers. Great place. Cheap and delectable lunch. Don't pass it up!

Oh on a side note. Call ahead. they'll make it for you and you can pick it up. No wait.

My first encounter with Banh Mi Saigon was in the middle of the afternoon Saturday August 15 while searching for designer sunglasses along Mott Street's optical boutiques.  Well, instead I came across a street vendor who was devouring the most delicious looking sandwich so I stopped dead in my tracks to ask her in my broken Cantonese where she got that.  She pointed to a large white truck parked directly across the street .  I gave her a puzzled look as it appeared to be a furniture delivery truck.  I shook my head at her in confusion and said: where?  And her comrade said "inside, inside" and so, off I went!  Then I saw the Banh Mi store sign but was completely thrown off by the jewelry vendor in front.  That's when I said to myself: "now I've seen it all  -banh mi and jewelry both under the same roof" ."   What's next?  manicures with your burgers?

I placed my order for a #1 , picked up after about 10 minutes and left in the giddiest state.  My walk to Chinatown had now become too engrossed in the cilantro, pickled veggies, roast pork cubes and special sauce.

I never did get any sunglasses that day...

There's something to be said about a place that does one thing (or two) and does it really well. Banh Mi Saigon is such a place. Nestled in a back of a jewelry store in Chinatown, they crank out nothing but eponymous Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches, and boy are they good. And really, for $3.75 for a freaking huge sandwich (I often have leftovers!) the price is unbeatable. Unquestionably on of the best value-for-money places in Manhattan.

This Vietnamese sandwich shop was the first I had gone to, and I'm still a devoted fan. Their selection is probably the widest out of all of the shops of its kind. Their price range is between $3.75 to about $6. And everything on the menu is worth it.

If you go later in the day, the sandwiches though aren't nearly as fresh. Everything's already pre-bagged. And sometimes they definitely sell out. So watch out.

It's also amusing that this shares space with a jewelry store.

Many people will tell you to go here when you talk about banh mi and Manhattan in the same breath. "Ooooh how fun! You walk through a jewelry store!" they will say. And while it is actually sort of fun doing this, the place is packed to the brim and in most cases you will wait through 20 orders before your sandwich is ready if it is prime lunch time.

The sandwich is good, but the contents seem a little like the place: rushed. The pork is just not as flavorful as other locations in the neighborhood and beyond. The bread is a bit blah. It's a great sandwich still, I guess I just have high expectations.

I can eat their Banh Mi every single day... I could do one right now! OMG, it is so good that's all I can say. The pork is so flavorful plus the vegetable is so fresh. I order extra spicy. And it is really spicy. It burns my lips.
I don't even know how to comment on the bread. I love it. Some people say it's too hard and all but I like it the way it is. Period!

Typically you will miss this place since it's in the back of a crystal jewelry store.

Got a note from a friend of a friend that this is one of the places that make close to authentic vietnamese sandwiches.

and it's cheap, only for $3.75 for a pork option.  Vegetarian options are also available.  You can also order one for the next day (just let them know you want one for the next day) and they will pack the carrots & daikon on the side so it doesn't soak up the bread.

Sandwiches are pretty filling.  About the size of a Subway's foot long.  $4 each for lunch and dinner is a steal in Manhattan.

Clearly a take-out place only.  very very popular, rush hours will be crowded...Beware, but of course, it's worth it since there's no where you can get a hearty sandwich for that cheap.
