I craved me some banh mi!
So I made a quick trip to this place while I was in Alhambra.
I asked for the most popular order, the bbq pork....yum!
While waiting for my order, I ordered 2 egg rolls....yum!
I then eyed the coconut, corn, and jelly concoction...yum!
The staff was super super (somewhat eerily) friendly. The only thing I wish they had is a more selection of desserts. In any case, I am a fan and I will be returning.

OMG! Best banh mi I have had in a long while. The experience was great. It is a small deli hidden away in one of Alhambra's many strip malls that still maintains the grittiness of Southeast Asia, that chains like Lee's Sandwiches have shed. For less then 5 dollars, I was able to get an ice coffee and sandwich, which filled me up and put a smile on my face. I will definitely be back to try the other sandwiches and delights they have to offer.
This place is 5 minutes further down the road than my I-didn't-have-time-to-brown-bag-my-dinner standby of Baguette Du Jour back in my Cal State LA days. Even B du J was a bit far, but damned if I was gonna eat from the Golden Eagle Crap Buffet in the student union any more often than I had to. I am now wishing I'd known about this place and tacked that extra 10 minutes onto each banh mi run. Classes at that place always start late anyway.
I'm not a banh mi authority, but I know $2 meals and I know yum. The three kinds of sandwiches I've tried here? Yum. Spring rolls? Yum. What's in the special #2? Mystery yum. Next time I'm SO getting myself a tub of pickled veggies and will try not to eat them straight out of the plastic container until I throw up.

This is the best vietnamese sandwich place that I've been to in the SGV. I like the meatball, special, chicken, and pork sandwich. Sandwiches are usually around $2 each. If you wanna be a high roller then tell them you want to add $1 extra meat to your sandwich. It makes the sandwich so much better.
If you go to this place, place your order to the girl. There's a guy there (husband to the girl) and he's not very friendly. He is usually making coffee and tends to ignore people.

This place is not worth going in my honest opinion. One day I went there and the store workers gave me the worst attitude ever, like they dont want to do business or something. Yet in the end, since I walked in already, I bought a sandwich, and the sandwich also broke my teeth, it got bones on it. Heck, why would they ever put something unatable inside a sandwich? just does not make sense to me.
Luckily, now I have found a better place in next door's Full house convenience store. Definatly saved my miserable day
My favorite place for Vietnamese Sandwiches - I hope it doesn't get so crowded that quality starts to go down!
They really fill their sandwiches with meat, not just a lot of veggies. The bread is pretty fresh and their meat/stuffing is just great!!
We usually get the egg rolls (3 for $1) and their meatball sticks ($1.25) along with their #2 Special ($2). Their iced coffee is very good and potent, but they usually use a lot of ice, so ask for "little ice."
Compared to Lee's and Mr. Baguette, the bread isn't made within the hour, but the stuffing more than makes up for it.
There is usually a 5 minute wait for the sandwiches, sometimes longer if there is a line, so I usually call ahead and place my order on the way there, so I just need to pick it up. Cash only.

if you were not looking, you would easily drive right by banh mi my tho as this sandwich shop is located in a seriously dingy strip mall on the south side of valley blvd.
i was heading out to play golf at alhambra gc and needed to get some food into my belly before teeing off, thus, i yelped a spot and low and behold, banh mi my tho popped up...and they are located within 5mins of the golf course. woooot!
i arrived at the sandwich shop and it was small and sold a mish mosh of food items, newpapers, and packaged goods. the guy in front of me ordered a pork rice plate that looked and smelled really good. i'll have to give that a whirl next time.
they have a small menu taped to the wall and i ordered the bbq pork sammie, a steamed pork sammie and a 3rd one that i forgot. my order was taken by a middle aged woman who was all smiles and was very kindly. Within 10mins, all my sammies were ready and i hopped into my car to make my tee time.
in a stroke of luck, our tee time was postponed 30mins,thus, allowing us time to nosh. my golfing buddies and i grabbed a table and each grabbed a sammie. since the sammies were not marked, we did not know which one we got until we opened the packaging. i ended up with the steamed pork sammie. this is essentially ground pork infused with herbs and other flavoring. so damn good.
the great thing about banh mi my tho is that the sammies are all made fresh and are loaded down with the picked veggies and peppers. a lot of the other banh mi joints i go to tend to skimp on the julienned veggies and the peppers. yay for them.
did i mention that the sammies were stuffed to the gills with meat as well? this palce definitely gives you a good bang for the buxk. as a matter of fact, i had tasty morsels of meat falling out of my sammie each time i bit into it. good in that the sammie was stuffed and bloated, bad because of the meat attrition this less going into my belly.
i will definitely head back to banh mi my tho to grab sammies prir to my next round at alhambra gc. woot!

This is my roomie's favorite Vietnamese sandwich spot. This tiny takeout joint uses the big and fat old school baguettes, not the pathetic skinny ones that everyone else has. They also stuff em to the brim with your standard selection of meats, veggies, liver pate, and pickled carrots. Like my men, I prefer my sandwiches not to be limp and soggy.
If you're feeling adventurous, try some of their prepackaged dishes, such as the fresh spring rolls, vermicelli noodles, fried eggrolls, or sweet rice with sausages. Or if you're feeling extra extra adventurous, bring fat people with you. Not only because there's so much to eat, but you'll all get stuck inside the tiny store and they'll have to smother margarine all over your bodies to get you out. Fun times.

I've been here a few times because I love the fact that they sell egg rolls, I LOVE egg rolls. I also find their sandwiches appetizing, though I also skimp on the pickled veggies and chili peppers. To be honest I don't know what kind of meat goes in their cold cup because its not like any lunch meats I've had before but this is the one thing/food I've always just accepted and never really bother to ask again because I'm afraid of what I might find out. I don't really know what the kind of mayonaise they put in it either because again its not like any I've had before. But all in all its good and inexpensive. they also have a plethora of vietnamese snacks and drinks, none of which I've ever tried all the times I've been there because its a little foreign to me, but perhaps I will the next time. They has a basil seed drink that sits in the refrigorated section that kind grosses me out but intrigues me all the same, i might give it a try next time.

i have tried lee's in fullerton and these sandwiches are a better value. the bread might not be as fresh, but hell where can you get a large sandwich and 3 egg rolls for $3.65?
uPDATE: 05/22/08
Prices of the sandwiches have gone up by 0.25. (http://www.yelp.com/bi...)

I maybe shouldn't write a good review here because this place defines the "hole in the wall" eateries. I mean, you walk in, hear the door bell, and the place probably cannot fit more than six inside. Everything here of course is to go. I go here mainly for their Banh Mi. Most are reasonably priced at $2. They have other items like meatballs, egg rolls, and a lot of self serve drinks and pre-packed foods. They only take cash so make sure you have some.
Think of this place as a Vietnamese 7-11 but just not as quick. So please, don't make my wait any longer by coming here.
We drive from DownTown LA to buy sandwiches here. For basically $2 you get the best French Vietnamese Sandwiches in the area, they top Lees and Mr Baggette, and if you are really hungry dish out another $1 for extra eggs. Can't go wrong with the spring rolls. Often we pick up food for dinner too.
First I must admit that I'm a bit sadden that this restaurant is showing up on yelp because it might mean the loss of innocence at my favorite banh mi deli. Through the course of my life after going to numerous banh mi joints both in SGV and Little Saigon, this has so far been my most favorite.
First I most point out that this is really a deli rather than a restaurant. There is no seating at all, it is strictly take out. On the point of it being a deli, you really should be prepared to wait if you go during peak times or phone in your order so it's ready to pick up by the time you arrive.
On to the food! The banh mi here is the traditional style using the big thick baguettes, nothing like the tiny ones from the large banh mi franchises. The meat portions are great and the pickled vegetables are just awesome. The fusion of different flavors and good portions keeps me coming back to this banh mi gem. I always like to order their 'Special' #2. I like their banh mi so much I had eight with me on my road trip to Canada so I wouldn't have to resort to burgers on the road.
They also have many other items than banh mi although it's their most popular item. They also have 'Bun' which are a thin angel hair-like rice noodle served with your choice of BBQ meats. Their prices are extremely reasonable and just the variety of choices will ensure everyone finds something they like.
Thank you Banh Mi My Tho for the years you kept me from starving!!!
