10 reviews for Bangkok Kitchen
After searching around Toledo for a good Thai place, we ended up in Maumee and at Bangkok Kitchen. You'd never know it from the outside, but this place is great.
Upon entering, the restaurant's patrons are greeted with a 1990s-era Print Shop banner and a weathered back-lit menu. However, the menu is quite extensive and had some things I'd never even heard of, including the entree I ended up ordering, the Pad Almond.
The food and service were exceptional, and the Thai Iced Tea was phenomenal. I left very happy and will definitely be back.
This was my first time eating Thai food, and I can definitely say it won't be my last.
We noticed right away that their was in fact no alcoholic beverages to be served, but the Thai Iced Tea was a delicious concoction of tea and milk.
We then went on to order a chicken skewer appetizer with a a peanut dipping sauce. They had a light lemony flavor, and the peanut sauce was very tasty. Though for 6.95 they were a little too cold for my liking, unfortunate.
On to the main course, I ordered the Pad Thai made hot. It was super spicy and oh so flavorful. We also had cashew chicken which very good as well.
In closing, our experience was very good. The staff was fantastic, but the one rub would be the decor which was a tad dated.
Bangkok Kitchen offers decent Thai food with good service at reasonable prices. I don't know what authentic Thai is supposed to taste like, but I've never been wowed by the food here. Not to say it was bad, but it has always been kind of bland for me, that is, good but not great. Maybe I have just been ordering the wrong things. I have been here a couple of times, and I think I got the chicken Pad Normai one time and chicken Pad Almond another. The soup was okay, but not especially memorable. I didn't leave here thinking, "I can't wait to come back!", but I didn't leave unsatisfied either. No complaints, but no big compliments either. A solid 3-star restaurant for my tastes. If you really love Thai food, maybe this place will be a 5-star for you.
I've been to all of the Thai restaurants in Toledo, and this is definitely my favorite.
The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is casual yet comfortable, the food is delicious, and the prices are just right.
One of the best Thai food not just in Toledo but anywhere. This is a family owned buisnness and the owners are from Thailand. My wife and I love their pad Thai, papaya salad, and crispy duck all very good. They do not serve alcohol but thier Iced coffee is very good. They do a very good job of spicing the food to your liking, also they have other really authentic dishes that are not on the menu such as frog legs in Basil sauce which turned out to be pretty good.
My Thai friends tell me Bangkok Kitchen is as authentic of a Thai place as it will ever get in Toledo; not being Thai myself, I'm going to trust their judgment. In all honesty, if someone were to set a dish of delectable pad thai in front of me, I wouldn't care if it's authentic or not so long as it piques the taste buds. Craving some heat and basil one evening, we schlepped over to W Dussel to see if this place lives up to hype.
Of the 3 dishes ordered, the chicken pad prik stood out, followed by the spicy bangkok beef, and lastly, the pad won sen. Clear noodles apparently meant cellophane noodles, my least favorite kind, but the pad won sen simply lacked the zing overall. The chicken pad prik boasted robust flavors of sweet basil and mint. Portion sizes were reasonable, in the sense that even yours truly finished the entire plate.
Service, like Anthony K had mentioned, is cordial and gracious. No complaints whatsoever.
The last two stars will come when they decide to switch over to fresh meat in the dishes, as opposed to pre-cooked and then microwaved. The giveaway? Seeing how our orders arrived just seconds after we had placed them. Tsk tsk.
Definitely not the best Thai I've ever had. This was a quick stop for me on a road trip through the area and happened to be staying at a hotel nearby and decided to try it out given the other great reviews. Being from Seattle, the Thai restaurants are plentiful and very good. We ordered the Pad Kee Mao and one of the Curry's. The curry wasn't too bad, but the Pad Kee Mao was awful. The one compliment I can offer is that I agree that the spices were done perfectly, the medium was perfectly medium.
A fantastic place and definitely the best Thai food in town. I worked in Thailand for a summer and this is the closest I've found in the Toledo area to authentic (although Rose Thai is pretty good as well). It has that small diner in a strip mall feel. The staff is very friendly, the portions are generous and the service is fast.
I tend to judge ethnic restaurants based on how good their version of the staple dish is. For Thai food that means Pad Thai and Bangkok Kitchen does an excellent job. Beware of how spicy you request your dish (they will also make your dish without spice if you prefer), their standards of spiciness is definitely authentic as well.
WOW!!
This place is awesome for the Toledo area. Don't think you will be wowed by the decor, but just wait for the wonderful staff to bring your food.
The spices are just right. Hot is Hot and Medium is Medium
The Best Thai Food in Town!
The people who work here are wonderful. Thai people are known for being charismatic, polite and friendly. The servers here have definitely adopted those social skills. If you are having a bad day, come to Bangkok Kitchen to make yourself feel better.
You get more than what you pay for. The prices are very reasonable, and the food is nothing short of delicious. They stick to the traditional style of cooking Thai cuisine. I personally recommend the Beef Lad Na.
This is a place that you should try, you can thank me later.
