This little hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant is surprisingly good and surprisingly consistent. Several of the menu items are simply as good as one will find in any Thai restaurant in America. The Beef with Mint is unbelievably tasty, as are the Glass noodle salad, Thai beef salad, and Egg Rolls. You can order every spicy dish here as mild, hot, or "Thai Spicy," in that order of heat, and if you choose Thai Spicy, you will be sweating during the meal. I am not a fan of Pad Thai so I will have to leave that to someone else to review, but most of the menu items I have tried have been excellent. I am a fan of the Thai table condiment called "prik nam pla" which is a hot pepper and fish sauce concoction. I order it here with every meal and it is almost the best I have tasted. They supposedly make their own fish sauce and only one prik nam pla that I have tasted has been better.
I agree with the fellow who did not recommend the buffet, though. There is just no way the food off a steam table is going to compare with freshly cooked menu items in most cases. Yes, there are some exceptions: Dumplings/Gyoza are okay, etc. But mostly, I advise staying away from buffets and just picking something off the menu freshly cooked.
They do not take credit cards at Bangkok House, but they will take a check from locals and if you aren't local there's an ATM machine in Bill's Liquor Store next door. Also, they will deliver if you are local and there is nothing like a nice hot sack of delicious Thai food delivered fresh to your door. -

I try my hardest to avoid writing bad reviews. After all, enough of these bad reviews can affect someones livelihood, when constructive criticism could have been a better solution. But this place really takes the cake.
I managed to get off work early one day and thought about where I wanted to eat lunch. Most places in town only have buffets at lunch, and I love buffets as a way to try lots of different dishes for cheap. I decided to give this place a try, since it had been over a year since I ate here for dinner.
The buffet had 8 trays and 1 soup container. Two trays were filled with rice. One tray was completely empty. The remaining food had better be good...but it wasn't. The wonton soup had been sitting so long that the wonton skins had turned mushy and had let the meat fall out. The fried rice was so old and crusted at the bottom of the tray that I gagged when I bit into it, not expecting rice to be crunchy. The "Thai Fried Chicken" might as well have come from KFC, there's nothing thai about it. The fried wontons had a a tiny morsel of meat in them, about the size of a fingernail. The 3 other dishes had sauces that all tasted the same, and the meat was not particularly tender.
I realize this buffet is only $7.25 but good lord, I would pay another couple bucks to eat decent food and have better selection? There wasn't even an ounce of dessert, just fruits and salads. How does China Lake Buffet, just down the road, do it for not that much more money? They have literally 5x more variety, and their restaurant is much nicer. I don't get it... -

Everyone who wasn't a vegetarian had a great experience here. I highly recommend the green curry with chicken (and it can be done wheat/gluten free quite easily!)
*Some in our group were vegetarian but don't come here if you're a vegetarian- they don't know how to cook for veggies at all and the veggie menu is quite limited.
* Service and atmosphere aren't anything to write home about.
* Space and tables were enough for us to accommodate a party of 14. -

Decent solid Thai food. This is a family business. Good Thai Ice Tea. This is a homey not homely place despite the ordinary exterior. Essentially this in a strip mall and has been in this location for many years. I have never had a bad meal there. Be sure to ask for your spice level, I found medium not hot enough for me.
They only take cash, no credit cards. I am not certain if they take checks or not. -

The food here is delicious and inexpensive. It looks like a complete dump from the outside but don't let appearances deceive you! There is absolutely nothing wrong with being located next to a scuzzy liquor store.
I had the pork satay with peanut sauce to start and then had the spicy shrimp with mint over rice. The flavors were perfect. I asked the waitress to make it spicy to which she replied "Thai Spicy?" My comeback was an enthusiastic 'Yes Please!" The food made my nose run but I could have taken more heat.
Cash only and no booze in the place. I guess that is why they have a liquor store nearby. I should have asked if I could bring my own. -

I grew up on this food. My friend worked here in high school and my buddies used to eat here once a week because of it. I remember all the food I used to order and loved every single dish.
Thai Spicy Mint Beef is wonderful! Love this place! -

One of the best places to eat in Ridgecrest. Owners are great people who care about their customers and serve great food. Good value and they have no problem making the food as spicy as you want.
Building does look like a dive though. -

Thai food in the high desert? I underestimated California, for once. Though Bangkok House's dishes may not be the most titillating Thai you will ever experience, it is a nice, quiet, well-decorated little oasis in Ridgecrest. Especially if you had a disappointing lunch at Cafe Potpourri earlier in the day. This place is like a flower garden that serves eggplant.
The only thing is, it appears to be owned by a charming old white dude. But hey, who am I to judge. -

After reading the other reviews I had high expectations of this place. I came in for the lunch buffet and was disappointed. I arrived near 12 so it should have been prime time with fresh food. The rice noodles were dry, chicken was very dry (too dry to eat) and the Ginger chicken was mediocre at best. Selection was minimal. I should have ordered off the menu. I didn't see much of the waitress because she was in the kitchen most of the time. My dirty plates sat on the table until I left. When you add warm soda to a cup of ice you end up with flat soda. I don't know what the other review was talking about when they mentioned an oasis in the desert. Wood paneling has been out of style since the 70's. Drywall is cheap. The place needs more than a facelift. They should tear down and start over. And for dessert - they don't take credit cards.
You'll want to keep driving past this place. -
