2008 REVIEW:
This is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Daly City. What I like about this restaurant is the interior of the place. First time, I was here was 2008 with a group of friends and I would come here from time to time. It is on the pricier side but worth your food. From what I remembered we order was the pad thai, lemon grass soup, thai iced tea, and some rice curry dish. Its been a long time from what I remembered from ordering. I think I was more focused on the interior and the atmosphere of the place, its good for a group of friends to eat at. But it is on the pricey side for me due to a student budget.
UPDATE: Dec 2011
So I came here to eat 2 weeks ago with a different group of friends and we ordered the Tom Ka soup, Beef Satay, Pad Thai and some other food that I forgot. We ordered Al la Carte style and we ended up paying around $11/per person for 5 dishes for 4 people. Not bad huh? So its been awhile since I been here. -

I was craving for pho but the place was closed. So my friend and I decided to eat here instead because it was nearby. We ordered the papaya salad, pad thai with shrimp, tum yum soup and the minty chicken.
-Papaya salad: It was okay, would've been better if it was spicier
-Pad Thai: noodles were overcooked and the flavor tasted weird
-Tum Yum Soup: Very good but I got sick of drinking it after two bowls
-Minty Chicken: My favorite dish!! It was very flavorful and slightly spicy
There was a piece of metal string thing in the pad thai and I accidently ate it! UGH! We told the waitress and she offered to get us a new dish of pad thai but we said no because the dish wasn't good. Awhile after that, another lady came, I don't know if she was another waitress or the manager asked us to show her the piece of metal string and informed us that it was from the metal scrubber that they used to clean their pans. I think all she said to us was that they were sorry, they should've offered us a discount on our bill instead.
The portions were pretty big because we had a lot of leftovers or it maybe we just ordered too much food for two people :) -

I lived in the Westlake are for a while now and NEVE been here until a few days ago. The interior is really nice. Love the ambiance.
Food was ok. Prices are reasonable. I came with my mom and my girlfriend. We had Chicken Curry (Yellow Curry), rice, Pad Thai, and BBQ Chicken.
Most of the food was great. Curry was yummy, Pad Thai was OK... I had better. And the BBQ Chicken was just plain dry. It was so dry it came with a sauce so you can dip it in there... Even they knew it was dry.
But the prices were good. Not that many Thai places in this area.. Might come again. -

Red Curry Duck- YUM! Really good.
Tofu Soup- Very Good also but is more of a Napa Cabbage soup
Tofu Fresh Spring Rolls- DON"T GET IT! It was bad, I can't believe I paid for wrapped lettuce! There was only a sliver of dried tofu in each piece and the rest was mushroom pieces and lettuce!! YUCK. -

I've been here a couple of times, because my friends and I couldn't think of other places to eat around Westlake. The food is just alright to me. We usually order yellow curry, pumpkin curry, pad thai, crab fried rice and some other stuff. The curry is spicy, but the portion isn't too big. You have to order rice separately; it does not come with the meal. It's not the best thai food you can get here, maybe the chicken is too dry or something. I would only come here as my last resort for thai food.

Accidentally stumbled into here after a morning of shopping. Where's that Banana place? Anyway, don't get the tofu spring rolls. I took a picture of it and you can clearly see that it's all lettuce. The presentation of the Tofu Soup in a hot pot container, with actual fire must have been incorporated in the price because it looked like napa cabbage soup; I enjoyed it nonetheless. My friend loved the Red Curry Duck which she claims to get at Thai restaurants all the time; I thought it was eh. Probably won't come back BUT the guys sitting at the table next to us both got some kind of fried chicken dish that looked delicious! Curiosity may bring me back.

I've been meaning to come here and I'm glad I did. I'm a big fan of Osha but it'd be nice to have a small place that's close and convenient to my GF's house. I definitely think it'll make it in our rotation especially with her working nearby.

-- Parking is kind of rough but after 6pm you can park in front of the post office
-- Very small restaurant, reminds me of a family owned & operated
-- Service can be slow at times, especially if it's busy
-- Authentic Thai cuisine and taste
-- None of the food was really spicy except our Green Curry
-- Chicken Green Curry was good, some spice and up to par
-- Pad Thai was pretty good, not dry, a bit sweet for me
-- Yum Neva had great flavor, just needed spice
-- Tom Kha Gai was good, but needed spice too!
-- Everything need some spice, I asked for Prick Nam Blah
I wouldn't be bold to say that it's the BEST Thai I've ever had because it's not. I think in general that they have all of the right taste and stuff here for a good, Thai meal. With that said, I know that the Thais scaled back or in this case, erase the spice that normally comes when you get it in Thailand. I hope that the next time I come here, I can pump up the spice.
Service was a bit underwelming for me. We were constantly waiting to find someone to ask for something. And the filling for my water glass was meh. I understand, though, so I'm not docking them really that much because the restaurant has that "family feel" to it.
T H E F O O D
Green Curry w/ Chicken:
This was the best dish because it had some spice! All of the flavors were there and I really enjoyed the vegetables and chicken. Add some rice and you're all set.
Pad Thai w/ Chicken:
I think all Pad Thai should come with tofu, chicken and shrimp. That's my standard and I think all Thai restaurants should include all of it in their pad Thai. With that being said I liked their pad Thai. You can learn a lot about a restaurant by their pad Thai. I liked that it was sweet but not too sweet and was not dry. I hate dry noodles. I of course added some prick nam blah (Thai chilis in fish sauce).
Tom Kha Gai:
Their coconut soup with chicken, veggies and mushrooms would have been better forsure with some spice. And by the time I was able to get the spice, the soup was almost room temp. It was a bit frustrating but I hope they can make it spicy for me next time :)
Yum Neva:
I've ordered this many times at Osha. It's a beef salad with lots of flavors like lime. Usually it's super spicy but this time, no spice. Still the same flavors but after I added the spice, it was all good. The veggie quality was just ok. I wasn't super impressed.
Like I said I wasn't super impressed by the service and the food was lacking spice but I'm sure that it can be adjusted. I'm definitely going to give this place another shot so look out for an updated review :) -

I stopped going here since my last review, but was convinced to try it again. The food was better - I realized their rice noodles in the pad thai are cooked the way I like, compared to other places who don't cook it as al dente as they do. I had the pumpkin curry with shrimp, which totally got me hooked on pumpkin things for the next week and a half. I love it. The guys that work there do chit-chat a lot in Thai [it's only loud when you and your lunchmate are the only ones in there] but they don't forget you exist so customer service isn't lacking. The parking still sucks but, whatevs.
PS - I've been substituting rice noodles for egg noodles instead lately but they don't use egg noodles for any of their dishes. That's neither here nor there, though their lack of egg noodles shoved me in the direction of a rice plate - pumpkin curry - so no harm no foul. YUMMMMMO.Listed in: Slim Pickin's

I love this place! They're very nice and extremely generous with thier portions! All of thier dishes are delicious, esp their Green Curry and their Prahram Chicken! I've been going here for years and they've still kept their great quality! Last time, we ordered 2 entrees, 2 appitizers, 1 order of rice, and 2 Thai ice teas for $40 bucks including tip! Now that's a freakin' deal!

This place has one of the better pad thais I've had compared to some other Thai restaurants- better than King of Thai in Clement (meh) and Original Thai bbq in SSF(bland), in my opinion. I tried the tom yum here and it was pretty good but I would need to try other places to compare. Papaya salad was a little garlicky, but delicious. I also tried their pad see ew.. wished they put more noodles in it, but I wouldn't order that again. Kinda bland as well. Pad thai is always my go-to dish, and this place delivers! Squeeze more lime on top... YUMM
PS: I wouldn't bring a large group here. You can hear EVERYONE'S conversations! Very quiet and I feel like I had to whisper LOL -

Oh man. Disappointed. I came in for lunch; the staff was very attentive and friendly. I ordered their Pad See Ew and a glass of iced Thai tea.
Thai tea was delicious. However, their Pad See Ew? Bland. :(
I was basically eating unseasoned noodles with unseasoned chicken. No hint of flavor at all. Even the glass of water had more flavor. I tried my friend's Red Chicken Curry, and it was flavorful, but didn't really pack a punch as the other curries I've had in other restaurants.
I came here hoping that I'd be able to have decent Thai food in Daly City without the hassle of paying for parking in San Francisco to go to Marnee Thai or King of Thai. Guess I'll have to continue going to SF for good Thai food! -

Review from Salvador R.
Daly City, CA
In Daly City, You will be hard pressed to find a better Thai restaurant with a more comfortable interior.
It does not have the most desirable surroundings but what it lacks in outer appearance it makes up for in the inner style and environment and quality of their food. The first time I went into Bangkok was with friends, so the "family" style dishes are perfect. One of my favorites has always been the Vegetable Praram. Lots of spicy, peanut-y goodness. The veggies in the Praram are steamed perfectly before being added to the sauce and rice. The best side dish is the vegetable fried rice. Quite a bit more savory than the chinese versions of fried rice that I have tasted. If you are over 21, be sure to have a "Chang" beer as it complements the mild spiciness in the dishes perfectly.
At the end of dinner when you are asked if you would like dessert, you must answer YES!! Not sure what it's called but if you ask for the fried banana and mango ice cream dessert, you will not regret it!!! Big enough to share with someone but tasty enough not to want to share it with someone:-)
Eat, Drink, and be Merry!

Review from Angela L.
I love Thai food. Always have and always will. You can't really go wrong with Thai food unless it isn't Thai food.
I have gone to this place for many many years and always thought this is a decent place to have good Thai food. And yet, coming here each time, they are never consistent with the food service as well as the dishes. Nevertheless, I refused to admit that they aren't so good and I have a better chance of going to somewhere else.
My parents came here once and raved about it, so insisted that we go to have a family dinner here. I made reservation for 6 people. We were a tad late but they still accomodate us. From there on, everything went downhill.
We ordered quite a few dishes to start out. The waitress that took our order was completely out of her mind that nite. Either she just started working there or completely deaf!!! Whatever we ordered she got it wrong! There are two dishes here that Is a must order. They are the Pad Thai and the Mints chicken. Everything else is A-ok.
For some reason, the Pad thai came out soggy and the Mints chicken was a bit tad salty. I hate salty food. That is my number one no no in my food. We also ordered the fried fish with somekind of tangy tomato-like sauce. It was fishy and yucky. We order quite a few dishes as well. They weren't memorable to mention because we had to constantly tell them where is our orders. All they said was"they are coming" WTH?!!! I think the world will end before our food came.
Since this incident, I told myself that I will never come back here again. Service was deplorable and the food did not live up. There are so many other Thai restaurants that have better food and definitely better service.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Muay Thai Pad Thai is what they should call their stir-fried rice noodle dish here. It kicks ass!
In addition to the pad thai, the garlic prawns (succulent) and the penang beef (tender) are exceptionally tasty as well.
Not only was the food good, it was reasonably priced to boot. For the group of us, it averaged out to $12 per person.
To round out the review, the waiters were friendly (in an easygoing sort of way), the décor was pleasing (lots of marvelous wood carvings), and the parking was convenient (right outside the restaurant). -
Review from Kimiko Q.

Came here with a family of six. I enjoyed the interior.. it was as if I walked onto a bamboo dinner boat during the night.
I was excited to try their papaya salad but found it to be rather salty and a tad bitter. Some of the shredded papaya was extremely green. I guess I just prefer my papaya with fish sauce.
We all ordered brown rice but they had just started cooking it and we chose to wait for it instead. We asked that the non-curry/soupy dishes be brought out first (the pad-see-ew, clay pot and grilled eggplant w/seafood) so we could wait for the rice. They said OK but unfortunately there was a communication error and all the wet stuff came out first.. The pad-see-ew came last. So we had a lot of wet foods and curries with nothing to sop it up or absorb the sauce. Disappointing.
So we ended up ordering two orders of white rice since our brown rice was still not ready and it was hard to sop up the curry without any starchy or carb-like sustenance.
I had the yellow curry w/veggies. I really wanted to like it because there was a good variety of veggies BUT there was a bad zucchini in it and anyone who's anyone (who cooks, that is) knows that one bad zucchini can ruin a meal.
All in all, though the food was above average, I really think a bit of communication among the staff would go a long way. Perhaps next time. -

Best pad thai i tasted...better than king of thai FOR SURE!
The pad thai tasted better before but it still taste pretty good now...
They are pretty nice about customizing our orders..we wanted a fish but wanted it in a sweet and sour flavor which they did not have on their menu but they made it for us...
the soups are pretty good...
meat dishes are pretty small but they are flavorful -

When Thai food is suggested by friends, this is the place I recommend.
Their Pad Thai noodles are *by far* the best I've ever had. I've never ordered something off their menu I didn't like and service has been excellent 9/10 times. -

This place is okay, although I would not come back. First off the server didn't not know what was on the menu nor did he know which entrees were good. I asked for his recommendation and all he could say is everthing. I asked for a recommended curry dish and he said he didn't know which one was good. The food came out it was okay. For the price I wouldn't pay as much to eat here. The fried banana with vanilla ice cream is really good. I recommend ordering that if you must eat here.
The serve was okay. I asked the waiter for some water it took awhile for him to get it to me due to his obligation to his brand new laptop bag. Which is crazy. He was in the corner of the restaurant at a table opening his brand new laptop bag. This guy was foreign I could tell, but tis doesn't not obligated him to the customer and thhe hospitality device provided. Overall, 2 stars -

I've been a fan of this place from way back. On the way home we stopped for a quick yummy dinner.
I had my usual Rendang Beef. Still awesome. Beef is as usual melt in your mouth softness.
One thing I can rely on this place is their consistentency with their service, great attentive staff, very tasty food.
Adam had their fried rice with pork and Spicy Chicken Curry. I approve! Love them both and portion is always great that we ended up taking most of them home.
I remember their satisfying Thai Ice Tea and had to have some! No regrets! Still satisfying to the last drop. Strong, not too sweet and very cold!
Clean authentic looking place and at night it's a cute cozy date spot.Listed in: Top Restaurants

Review from Rhia R.
Still consider this a pretty good place. Hilarious how the person I came here with had given it 1 star in a review from years ago. I suppose it's gone up at least 2 since then. They took the liberty of ordering a Thai Iced tea for me, despite my refusal. Blame it on a traumatizing experience of having it from a can, which I've now learned is a complete no-no. My faith in this drink was completely restored upon first sip. It was then followed by Tom Yum soup, crispy chicken, honey roasted duck and Bangkok fried rice. Cah-razy good. I probably won't be back here too soon since I'm not a fan of the Westlake area. But it's definitely reignited my interest in trying out other Thai places.

Wanted to try something new near the Westlake area besides Banana Island. I love the decorations at this place. The staff was very nice and seated us immediatly. We ordered their fried chicken over thai fried rice, pad see ew, and curry. The food was good...the chicken was my fave. It wasnt crowded but their were a few people eating around us. Good for groups. But the parking isn't that great.

We Ordered the yellow chicken curry, pad se ew, thai spring rolls & of course sweet sticky rice with mango all of which were super good. The foods consistent but the service never is, we waited awhile for the waitress to finally take our order which was sort of lame. I guess i'd come back since it's the only thai place close to home that i like but in the meantime i'm still searching.. sorry good service means alot to me

Naked ladies on the wall = I am THERE!
Whoops, forgot I was reviewing a restaurant for a second. I've been here a few times and it has yet to disappoint.
Papaya salad is hella good. It's the gf's favorite dish here and she gets it every time.
Pad thai every single time as well. Ya know, every restaurant has their way of making pad thai, so I guess some who don't like it saucy might not like it, but it doesn't mean it sucks. Thankfully my gf and I like it extra saucy so we think their pad thai kicks ass.
Oh and as another reviewer said, their Rotee with mango ice cream is bomb. Hot, crispy, sweet...just all sorts of goodness.
Only gripe...don't order their Thai Iced Tea. I'm pretty sure they use the canned stuff. Really bleh. -

One of my go-to places near home. The food is tasty, the staff is efficient, and the surroundings are pleasant.
I've had the Tom Kha Gai, Pad Se Ew and the FBI (fried banana with ice cream). The portions are generous, you get your money's worth. -
Review from Helen Y.
Came here last night for dinner. The place was pretty empty even though it was already 8pm. The decor is interesting with Thai statues and fake banana trees placed neatly at the side.
We ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, Egg Plant Prawn, Chicken Red Curry and Pineapple Fried Rice. The dishes do not come with steamed rice, which has to be ordered separately. The portions were not huge, but decent. The Pad Thai was really good, but the curry was a little too watery for me. The bill was around $45 with tips.
Overall, I have had better and more authentic Thai food. But at Bangkok Garden the food was solid and the staff was friendly. I don't mind coming back again. -

So I used to come here once in a while when there's nothing else but a few weeks ago, I came here for dinner and something terrible happened here. THERE WAS A BUG IN OUR FOOD! IT WAS ALIVE AND MOVING! It was not only disgusting but the servers didn't even care! They were very inconsiderate and rude! We told them and they just said it was a fly and it flew there by accident.
AELSKJDFLKDJF (moment of frustration)
It wasn't EVEN a fly! It was an ant! I'm pretty sure ants do not have wings!
Sadly, they didn't even have the heart to remove it from our bill or even give us another order (at least!)
Definitely NOT coming back. -

When I was first introduced to Thai food(about five years ago), it was such a different experience from the usual food I would eat. I was only familiar with Mexican food, and your typical Americanized food. When I first tasted Thai food, the explosion of flavors was so different, it was offsetting-- I didn't like what I was tasting. Fast forward 3 years, my brother and I came back to this place-- to my chagrin. We ordered what I had the first time: Pra Ram Beef, Tom Kha Gai(please excuse me if I spelled those wrong), Duck Curry, Pad Thai, and a glass of Thai Iced Tea. The explosion of flavors impacted me again, but much more positively. It was like my tounge had thrown on some tap dancing shoes, and starting dancing. It was so different from my first experience, I now LOVED what I was tasting! That would be the one of the many visits to my favorite Thai place.
Now, let's get to decor-- I love the painting that covers the wall to the right when you first walk in. The whole place is just so cultured, I find that to be very beautiful.
Service: Waiters and waitresses are so friendly. Not to mention a couple of the waiters are cute... ;) but let's get back to the restaurant, shall we?
It's the first place I've been to that serves on one plate that everyone picks from(I think that's only for dinner though)... I love that! And the portions aren't small either, so everyone is happy.
Thai food is now my favorite food, and I have Bangkok Garden to thank for that! So, get your behinds over to this place, you won't be disappointed. -
Review from Ravena F.
In a carefully arranged, historical strip mall in Westlake, lies this ornate and homey restaurant. As you pass over the threshold from structured and straight-lined strip-mall-land to ornate and busy Thailand, Bangkok Garden is startling in it's rich personality and in the care and friendliness of the staff.
My favorite Thai order is and always will be Tom Ka Gai (Coconut-lemongrass-chicken soup) and Spicy Green Curry with tofu. Their renditions here are quite tasty, though I had to learn to order the curry with "fresh" tofu so that they don't fry it. Other favorites here are the minty chicken and the shrimp eggroll (yes it's fried, but damn! it's good).
I doubt that Henry Doelger (the mastermind behind Westlake and in fact, nearly all of this residential area) had Bangkok Garden in mind when he planned this area in the 1950's. However, I'm content to leave the 1950's sturdy buildings and insightful city design to Doelger and let the modern, local, relatively enlightened masses choose the restaurants by supporting the eclectic ethnic mix you now find in this neighborhood - Bangkok Garden being a supreme example.

Don't get to come here quite as often since we're in the East Bay now but we'll make a special trip for this place. Great pad thai, garlic beef, and pretty much anything with shrimp and we're good to go. For two people, even three entrees fills you up and gives you leftovers too.
Service is a mixed bag, they seem to know who's regulars and who's not, but since they are usually busy there doesn't seem to be much time for small talk w/ customers anyway. Parking may be a little sparse but we'll walk up the hill if we have to! -
Review from Nguyet D.
I came here for lunch with some friends on Sunday. It was hard to find parking, but after driving around for 5 minutes, we found a spot and had to walk up to the restaurant.
Inside the restaurant was nice, and it felt its very homey. The staff was very friendly. We were seated right away and the waitress bought us water. We ordered medium pad thai & thai fried rice. After eating the food, we notice it was a very authentic Thai restaurant. I was very pleased with the food especially the Pad Thai. We ordered it medium, and the cook used very good thai species. The food was spicy, but it was tasty. We kept eating it and drinking lots of water.
It was a very good find. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone looking for an authentic & good Thai place to eat. I would definitely come back if I'm in the area. -

My girl's 21st birthday (man, that was a long time ago.) Various cousins' birthdays. That time after my friend had surgery & was craving thai. And this week, to continue my grandmother's birthday celebration. In the past decade, we've (sporadically) patronized Bangkok Gardens for a familiar meal & for special occasions.
The foods:
- fried shrimp eggroll: it's shrimp. it's fried. it's an eggroll. and it comes with the best sweet, sour & spicy dipping sauce. you can't go wrong with this appetizer.
- tom yung gai (i think): my sister's pick for her favorite soup. salty, sour broth, lots of vegetables.
- pad thai w/ shrimp: noodles are perfectly al dente
- eggplant & tofu: one of my favorite dishes anywhere b/c when i was a "sometimes vegetarian" back in the day, it was the only non meat dish at our gatherings.
- chicken yellow curry: i'm not a curry fan except for this concoction of chicken, potatoes & a not too spicy curry. delicious over rice.
- hot thai tea (since some people at the table were watching their figure, we all opted for hot thai tea instead of thai iced tea to avoid the dairy & extra calories.)
Total for our party of four: $50 (not including tip.)
Sitting between a post office & other small cafes (hence the difficult parking situation sometimes), you wouldn't think that such an ornately decorated space exists in this part of Daly City. It's worth a visit if you're in the are & wanting a nice sit down thai spot.
This week was the first time we've been here in years, but the food & service (yes, even with the new owners) was a good as we remembered it from when we were all a little younger! -

Great service you get to substitute the choice , like if there is only beef noodle soup you can change it to chicken noodle soup it was so good ! The soup was fine it wasn't too greasy somewhat of spiciness in it. Doesn't take too long to be seated down, the food was quick like around 10-15 to me it was quick other places takes even longer to be seated and you'll need to wait more. Price was fair enough 6.75$ great serving size bowl. I would go here again and try something else next time.
