Angie is the best! I shopped high and low for a no fuss salon (can you believe some salons offer wine while they trim your ends....gross not to mention the final bill will reflect this sort of pampering) that does a great job in minimal time. Bang is that place. This salon is more about efficiency and less about hand holding. Angie listened to what I wanted and what I did not want and executed the perfect cut, highlights and style for my VERY thick and unruly blonde locks. The best part? I walked out one hour later mere $165 lighter. You cannot find this kind of service for that price anywhere else in DC....trust me, I've tried!

I'll definitely be back. Angie...you ROCK!

I'd been a client at Bang on U Street and the relationship was rocky.  After that salon break-up, I was reluctant to have anything to do with Bang.  But the locations are so accessible, and the online booking is so convenient... I was desperate for a haircut and drawn back in after trying a few suburban salons without finding a good fit.

Bang at Verizon has a great vibe - it's much more relaxed than the other location.  The space is nice and everyone is friendly.  I've never had any issues with the reception staff.  I'm usually seen on-time or very close to it, which is a HUGE change from the U Street experience.  I never feel rushed or squeezed in.

I've been seeing Amie for a year now and I swear the results just keep getting better and better.  She encourages me to experiment with my look (and not just get the same cut and color each time) but she doesn't force anything on me.  She asks a lot of questions to make sure she gets the best match - how do I usually style it?  What shade of red am I thinking?  Would I like to try something a little asymmetrical?  And then she spends a lot of time giving me a precise and stylish haircut.

I'm really happy with this stylist/salon relationship, and I think it's safe to say I've found the one for now!

I am a pretty big fan of Bang.  I have been to three different people to have my hair cut, and liked them all, but Roberto is far and away the best.  The first time I went to Bang, Roberto cut 11 inches of my hair off, and I loved the change.  The second time Roberto cut my hair, he gave me bangs.  The only downside to Roberto is that it is harder to get an appointment with him than with other stylists, but that is solved by simply planning ahead.

I am not one of those people who pays attention to what is in style in terms of hair, mainly because my hair is pretty much going to do what it wants anyway, hang straight.  However, Roberto and Amie were both able to take my minimal directions of "I want something different" and give me hairstyles that were exactly what I didn't know I wanted.

I don't know if he is still there, but the first few times I went to Bang, there was a guy who washed my hair before the cut who gave the best head massage ever.  I think in part I keep going back to Bang to have that experience all over again.

JENNIE all the way!
I have a haircut appointment in a couple of days and I cannot contain my excitement! I've been going to her for the past couple of years and nothing will make me change her- she is the best with thin, fine hair. She gets me like no other hairstylist Ive been to before and always, ALWAYS brings the result I want. Sometime I show her a picture or lately, most of the times I just explain and she totally gets it!! If you are into funky, trendy and a bit less conventional hairstyles, she is the one to go to! Did I mention I am getting my haircut in a couple of days??

I mainly came here because it's convenient, but I was extremely satisfied with the results.  I have very long hair and was expecting to pay more along the lines of the "+" than the "42" listed as the starting price for women's haircuts.  I came in with wet hair, and cut a cut and blowdry and it cost 42 dollars!  I was amazed because normally I forgo the blowout because they charge you an absurd amount of money for it.  My stylist was Ashleigh, who I thought was no-nonsense and efficient (fine by me) -- I ended up tipping her way higher because the cut was so cheap.  Some people have complained how you can hear the noise from the Vida gym-- you can, but do you really care?  The only annoying thing is that they will take credit for the cut, but not for the tip, so you need to bring cash.  This is annoying because you can't guess the price of your haircut, necessarily.

First off, before you make an appt at any Bang Salon, consider this. Their appts are 30 min by default. 30 min to wash, cut and blow dry?! Give me a break, you may as well just go to the hair cuttery.

Secondly, I was deceived. I made an appt. w/ Amal who I was told was great with layers. False. Razoring the ends of your hair does not equate to giving you luscious layers. She took an extra 20 min with my hair and charged me $1 for each minute, literally! [This is definitely something that should be established before hand, via the receptionist perhaps.] My tab wound up being $62+ tip. For someone who was rushed through a cut and had to have their blowout redone (which she did in 3 minutes, tops, so it was super sloppy), this was simply infuriating. The part that made me most livid was that the first thing I had to do when I got home was restyle my hair.

At that price, I should have just gone to one of the slightly more upscale salons where the talent is, well, talented.

Roberto did an amazing job on my curly, thick, unruly hair! He totally fixed a bad, botched cut I had from another stylist. Another friend of mine with long, curly, thick hair also loves him.

Bang's a pretty basic, mid-price salon and you don't get a lot of frills with your haircut, but for the price it's great!

This was my first time at Bang, and likely to be my last. While the staff was generally friendly, the location is cramped, and people outside can watch you get your hair cut. It's like a fishbowl. Nothing says relaxation like Caps fans making faces at your, or just staring at you while they are waiting for the Verizon Center to open.

Anyways, I went online to their website to read about their stylists, and chose Amal. It said her architecture background would enable a natural and trendy look. I don't think so. Using a razor that looks like something you'd see a barber in a wild west movie use (from what I could see) to cut your hair does not make for a good cut. I asked for a longer inverted bob. I specifically said, I have a round face, I have curly hair, I need the hair to be longer so it doesn't make it more round looking than it already is. I ended up walking out of there with a short "posh spice" bob. She slicked all my hair back, and used the razor to cut all my hair. Then said she would blow dry and flat iron it to see where she needed to fix it. The blow dry consisted of her ruffling my hair as she blew dry, not using a brush once. Then she flat ironed to see "where the flaws in the cut were" (um, WHAT!?), and then snipped here "tweaking it." Bam, I was done. In 30 mins, from walking in, getting hair washed, cut ,and paying. 30 MINUTES! I get the fast efficient thing, but it borders more on sloppy. I HAD curly thick hair when I walked in there, but Amal thinned it SO much, I feel like like I need to go buy volume enhancing shampoo. Oh, and a flat iron too, because now I need to straighten it since now when it curls up, I look like a little boy with a mushroom haircut.

From the other reviews I've read, it looks like satisfaction is a bit mixed. I did see Ricardo doing someone's hair, and they looked great when they walked out of there.

But overall, I doubt I'll go back. I want someone who actual cares about the cut being even, the layers looking good, and not feeling rushed out so they can get in the next client.

I would highly recommend Amanda at Bang Salon for any hair type. I have natural hair and every time I leave the salon one may think I use chemicals to achieve the straightness and body. However, the products and techniques that Amanda use are the special secret to my tresses. She is concerned about the health of your hair. Since going to Amanda and using her recommending products like DermOrganic, my hair has grown. I love the convenience of the location and fast service. Usually I am in a salon for three to four hours, but at Bang Salon I am done in less than fifty minutes. Please try Bang and it is definitely worth the money.

A great salon. I went there for the first time this summer and came back today for another appointment My stylist is Anastasia. She is fun, talkative and does great work with scissors. The salon floor can be crazy with so many stylists and clients, but it is not so loud you cannot have a conversation with your stylists. The area where they wash your hair and have you sit while your highlights process is quiet with comfy benches, magazines and tvs. Anastasia is great and asks a lot of questions about what you exactly want done before she starts cuttting or highlighting. I know she is busy, but she definitely takes the time to get your hair right. You do not feel rushed at all.

I hate going to new salons. I hate dealing with sassy stylists and I especially hate dealing with snooty staff (take that Andre Chreky!). Lost among the many identical salons in DC, a friend directed me here. While I find the front desk to be average and the salon itself a bit loud and hectic, I keep coming back. Why you ask?

For my main boo, Roberto. I have very thick, curly, unruly hair and I always walk out looking, well bangin. He is friendly without being overly chatty and really listens to what I want.  After too many traumatic turns at the swivel chair (ie mushroom cut) I can be kind of difficult with stylists. But Roberto checked my tude at the door and gave me a great cut that I really love.

Tip: When you book online, if you need a blowout and have thick or long hair, book two appointments back to back. Also, they will charge you a bit more for longer hair so ask before you start your cut.

Also, I was enjoying my cut when I felt something furry scurry across. Its the owner's dog that kind of hangs out in the salon. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs but I don't think they should be wandering around a business.

I can't say enough great things about Roberto!  I've been going to him for haircuts and highlights for over two years now and each time I leave extremely happy...and I have high expectations!  Roberto always hears me out in terms of what look I'd like and listens to any concerns I may have--this is sooo important in a hair stylist.  I've asked for layers, highlights, lowlights, etc. and it always turns out even better than I had expected.  He even had to fix a highlighting disaster I had when I went to someone else while out of town (I'll never do that again).  Roberto is really talented and extremely professional.  Don't hesitate to go to him if you are looking for great results...but call way ahead for an appointment!  He's popular.

I will do my usual positives followed by negatives

Positives: Convenient location, I like my stylist, good products.  Great place to go if you need a last minute blow out for a party or what not.

Negatives: Front desk staff is incredibly rude, perhaps it's their job to be the gatekeepers if you will, but I found that the politeness of my stylist did not compensate for the front desk staff,

It's pricey for what you get.  I would rather pay 10 bucks more for a better salon or go elsewhere next time.

Bottom line, this is the place to go to if  you need to get something done in a pinch or if you absolutely love your stylist.  Otherwise, I would spend my money elsewhere.

I agree with Kate G.'s review down below: JENNIE AT VERIZON CENTER IS GREAT!

I went to her last night for a cut. I've been to Brennan at Metropole, Bryce at U Street, and Sean at Verizon Center, and of all of them Jennie's the best Bang stylist I've had.

I brought in a couple of pictures to show her for reference, and she talked me through what I wanted and then talked me through how she was cutting my hair. I appreciated that she was sure of herself but still checked in with me to make sure I liked the look and feel of the cut all along. She works thoughtfully and efficiently - but I never felt rushed, even though she fit me in at the end of her shift.

The style was EXACTLY what I wanted. I feel confident that Jennie would have nailed it, even if I'd gone in without pictures.

In contrast to Jennie, Brennan at the Metropole Bang has tended to rush through my consultations and then, no matter what I asked for at the beginning of the visit, give me the same layered style every time. He acts overly-confident in a way that's probably meant to reassure his clients, but made me feel rushed. I'd say I've been happy with one out of three cuts by Brennan.

From now on, I'm sticking with Jennie. She puts me at ease, listens closely, and does great work.

I went to Bang this past weekend and Angie cut my hair. At first I was a little nervous because it was my first time getting my hair cut in DC, as I am originally from out of town, but I left so happy with my hair that I will definitely not be looking for another place to go.

Angie was very thorough and really listened to what I wanted to do with my hair. I felt that her suggestions were really more helpful and not the kind that some stylists give when they totally disregard what you want and want to do what they want. She really took her time to make sure my hair dyed evenly and did an awesome job with both my cut and color.

I am on a budget, but I feel that what I paid was worth every penny and it definitely wasn't as expensive as what some other salons were quoting. It wasn't even as expensive as the salon I used to go to in Pittsburgh, which, as a city, is usually way cheaper than DC.

I would definitely recommend Bang to anyone who doesn't already have a hairdresser that they like and are looking to have a great experience conveniently located by the Verizon center!

This is pretty much a review of Ryan, because he is like the Greek god of scissors.

The first couple times I saw him I had wanted to keep my length, but find something that flattered me more. Considering I should have never had hair that long to begin with, he was great about cutting only the minimum, and thinning and taming my thick weirdly wavy hair.

A little less than a month ago, I went in to cut it (nearly) all off. As soon as I told him how much I wanted to donate and how long I wanted left, he tied it up, measured, and determined it was long enough that I could both donate more than I had thought AND keep it a bit longer--I appreciated that he took the time to do all this and ask me about it rather than just tie and cut. I pretty much gave him free reign over my new style--again, just no bangs. He has a good eye for choosing flattering cuts (considering face shape, and that I wear glasses), and he gave me suggestions for styling (it's been 5 years since my hair was this short), and also talked about what I might like to try next time, since I'm taking baby steps.

The front desk staff has always been friendly, helpful, and complimentary. Rocco, the dog, is adorable.

Basically: I often walk away from major haircuts with a little doubt, then grow to like it. At Bang, every time, including/especially cutting off 12 inches most recently, I am in love with my hair immediately, and can't believe how many compliments I've gotten on it.

I go to Angie at Bang Salon - Verizon Center. She's great! She works with your face shape and gives a great and quick cut.  I love to chat with her as well, what a sweet person. I absolutely love my haircut.

The salon is very bare-bones. No pampering, and kind of poor lighting but for the price and attitude I give it an enthusiastic 4+ stars!!

I was recommended to this salon by a coworker and I am very happy with my overall experience.  I have worked in the salon industry for over 2 years and not only was their appearance and atmosphere great, I got a partial highlight and hair cut for under $120!  Roberto was my stylists and he was very nice!  Really listened to what i wanted but also recommended what he thought would look good!  I got bangs for the first time EVER!

The ONLY down side is that you cannot tip on the credit card.
Metro accessible, good atmosphere and great stylists Roberto!

So in the most cliche way possible, I capped off my wedding by cutting my hair all off after it was over and donating it.  Okay well, not all of it off, but a significant amount.  Enter Ryan at Bang.  I have never really had a regular stylist in the DC area since I tend to wait (too) long periods of time in between haircuts.  I never really committed to anyone.  I went to see Ryan at Bang based on several of the reviews here and a recommendation from a friend.  I knew I wanted to cut off 8 inches and still have my hair to my shoulders.  I look terrible with hair any shorter than that.  I wasn't really nervous about cutting off all the length, I was just nervous about how it would look after it was done.  I didn't need to worry about it at all though.  Ryan measured and cut off about 9 inches of my hair and then gave me a very flattering layered shoulder-length cut.  On top of that it was quick!  I was out the door in 30 minutes which is amazing given my hair takes a while to blow dry.  I have no complaints and I totally plan on seeing him again to keep my new style trimmed and looking nice.  Oh and the price is decent too, only $42 before tip.

I made an appointment to get my eyebrows waxed during my lunch hour from work. My appointment was at 1:30. At 2:10 I was still waiting. No explinations or apologies. I was not happy. What's the point in scheduling people if you're not going to stick to the schedule? I understand things get behind but I needed to get back to work.

I did finally see the waxer, Michelle, and she did a terrific job. She used the wax that smelled like cocoa, which was really nice. The waxing room is kind of weird, though. It's way past the storage area and the ceiling you stare at as you lie there is a tangle of dirty pipes. Kind of ruins the ambiance. Still, Michelle was nice and I was more than satisfied with how my eyebrows came out (and I've got some serious eyebrows, thick, dark, and crazy if left to their own devices).

I'd come here again but  I'd go after work so I wouldn't have to worry about being left to wait forever.

I had a hair emergency.  My semi-usual stylist was unavailable for 2 weeks and I was going to NYC.  The Saturday before the trip I looked at myself in the mirror in horror- TRIANGLE HAIR.

After searching around for a salon closer to home, I finally decided just to go to Bang.  I like that they have later hours and how convenient they are if you're downtown. The online booking option is a plus, I just wish they had more information about the stylists in the booking section.

After reading up on the stylists a bit, and of course checking yelp, I ended up picking one at random.  Not the best way to do so, admittedly, but I'm also the girl that used to decide to trim my bangs after a few margaritas.

The Bang on F street is attached to a gym.  It's loud, there's a lot of foot traffic, and due to location it's pretty cramped.  They've done a very good job of layout in there, which I appreciate.    But you just can't reduce the pure volume of the place.  My stylist and I were practically yelling to talk.

The cut- eh. She listened to what I wanted (a trim and a thin) and did exactly that and no more.  As someone with really thick straight hair, I always ask the stylists opinion, but hers was "that sounds good".  The cut came out alright, but it's not spectacular.  I didn't feel pretty and rockstar like when I walked out of there.  Which is fine.  It was a quick cut at a decent price.

I'll go again if I have a hairmergency, but I think I'll stick with Tara over at Bravado when I want something more interesting.

I really liked Bang.  I've been searching for a reasonably priced salon since I moved here a year ago.  I waited over 6 months before I got my cut and highlight because I couldn't justify spending the amount of money that would typically cover 3 cuts and highlights in St. Louis where I'm originally from.

Finally, I knew it was time when people said they loved my red hair.  RED HAIR? I'm a blonde!

I found Bang and loved it.  Eden was great - the cut she provided me still looks good a month and a half later.  It looks like it would grow this way naturally.  The highlights also look natural.  I would have liked a little bit of a more trendy look but for my first time at the salon and seeing Eden I was pleasantly surprised and happy.

The only negative is that I didn't know the toner cost was NOT included in the overall price and I wasn't asked if it was ok to use.  I understand it's necessary for the look so it isn't "bronzey" but it would have been nice to let me know the toner was extra.

Overall - great experience and I'm definitely going back and not waiting another 6 months!

I paid $175 total for a cut and highlight with toner.

I love Sean. But I may never go back, after being a customer for almost two years, because the management is fucking stupid and I am disillusioned by their spamming me with their false promises about salon events. Fuck them. I am going to take a while to forgive them for what they did today.

They sent out these e-mails in May promising that if I make an appointment on the second Sunday of the month, I will get a free brunch. How cool is that? I show up, on just the third time they were supposed to be doing it, and there is no brunch. I even called a month ahead of time and they said they would have it. Morons.

I had a miserable time there and then left my number with the promise from the girl at the front desk that I would be called by the owner. She didn't call, but she saw my original review on yelp and replied with some lame excuse about people in this economy not being able to put food on their tables so they decided not to waste food by giving it to me, even though they sent out e-mails saying they would. well guess what, i am almost one of those poor people, which is why I hadn't had a $42 appointment there in several months. But I thought that was a good deal and I would get a free meal out of it.

Bad service. Just as disorganized as VIDA fitness upstairs. Probably never going back.

Let me first begin by saying I am a young professional female. Some might describe me as high-maintenance. It's true. I like my hair a certain way, and have had trouble in the past finding a stylist I can actually trust to do what I ask him/her to.

Hence the reason I became skeptical after checking out the Bang website and discovering that the haircuts start at $42. Nevertheless, I gave the place a whirl, seeing as I had walked by the salon many times and always though that it seemed pretty nice/fashion-forward. I now realize that there are little or no criticisms I can offer in regards to the professionalism and services I experienced at Bang Salon.

I easily scheduled my appointment, arrived, and was promptly paired with a younger stylist named Angie. She had a fun, quirky, and youthful persona, but still managed to maintain a well-developed sense of professionalism and tact. I appreciated her ever so thoughtful consultation, creative input, and ability to anticipate what styles would suit me best. Angie was a great listener, relaxed, and extremely patient with me (I know I can be difficult). Angie easily gained my trust as she considered and implemented every last request I made during the consultation while cutting and styling my hair.

I can't remember the last time I was so pleased with a new hairstyle. She encouraged me to try an edgier cut, I agreed, and now I love it. Angie was also very focused on me as her customer, as I never sensed that she became distracted by other clients/duties. It was hard for me to stop thanking her as I walked out of the salon exuding confidence and feeling great about my entire experience. For the price, it's clear that the haircut was a steal.

Please note: This review is for Michelle only, who does a great job waxing... I'm too cheap to get my hair cut here, so if that's what you're looking for, just by-pass my review!

I was reluctant to put anything up reviewing her, because I've been going to her for a few years now and I don't want it to get any harder to make appointments. But, my Yelpish responsibility kicked in, and here I am. Michelle is as sweet as sugar-wax! She's always efficient, very experienced, and real and honest with you. She's also just about always on time, save maybe a few minutes if her previous client took longer than normal. She's quick and confident with the rip, exactly what you want when someone is yanking out your pubes. I've had some bad experiences with hesitant Brazilian waxers, and Michelle has helped heal my inner child that couldn't understand why the hell I was doing that to myself... and let the adult me get on with it  and recall why it's so worth it later on. I never leave there bloody or super puffy as I have with other wax-jobs - Michelle knows what she's doing, and I have even trusted her to deal with some of my Brazilian wax first-timer friends who needed a suggestion... now they will only go to her, too!

This is my first visit to this Bang but I have been to the one on Ustreet as well.  I was greeted by my stylist on time and she gave me a good consultation.  She was very quick and I was done in 30 min.  My haircut was exactly what I wanted.  It cost $52 which included shampoo, hair cut, blow-out, and flat ironing.

I do think the waiting area isnt very friendly nor were the receptionists very friendly-they didn't offer to take my coat or offer any water...which seems to be the standard in other salons.  Overall,  I was very happy and would return.

I just went to the Verizon center location for the first time (having been to the others over the years). Sean cut off about 8 inches of my hair and did a great job.. he talked, but not too much,  paid a lot of attention to detail, listened when I told him how I like it/where the cowlicks are etc and he washed my hair himself, which to me, is always sort of nice.
Overall, great experience and I'm not giving a full 5 because I didn't have color done. Perhaps next time.

I went to Bang for a haircut and my visit got off to a bad start.  The guy working the desk was so rude - wouldn't make eye contact with me, had a lot of attitude, etc.  Ugh - eat some crackers or take a nap, you cranky bastard.  Step 2: the shampoo, which was good until the end - when the guy walked away and there was still conditioner in my hair - what was up with that??  Thankfully, my stylist, Jennie, was really welcoming and was nice enough to give my hair another rinse before we started.

Jennie was quick, friendly and professional.  My hair is pretty easy to cut, but plenty of people have messed it up before.  Jennie consulted with me really carefully and made little adjustments to be totally sure I was happy walking out of there - and I was!

I hear Jessica is also really good, but I plan on seeing Jennie again - 5 stars for her and 2 for the salon . . . rounding that average up to 4.  Math is fun!

I should also mention that I love that you can make an appointment online at either Bang location - very handy and helps you to avoid that rude dude working reception!

I went to book an appointment today at Bang, and was sad to learn Stacey isn't there anymore. I am back to looking for someone to cut my hair. :(

Shortly after I wrote this edited review someone from Bang messaged me on yelp and recommended Sue for equally good curly cuts. I am making an appointment soon, so we will see how it goes.

Doesn't your review of a salon depend entirely on the hair stylist who worked with you?

This review is for JENNIE at Bang Gallery Place.

Jennie is a wizard with hair. I am always extremely happy with the color and the cut. I have tried a number of different styles and colors and it's always exactly what I wanted. That's the thing about Jennie, she will do exactly what you ask her to do. If you're the sort of person that goes in and says, "Do whatever you want" then Jennie is probably not for you (not that she couldn't do something fabulous, but she won't because it inevitably ends with disappointment).

I have experienced the attitude problem others have mentioned at Bang. I used to go to the one on U st. and switched after a bad experience, but that was the same thing. I felt like I had to try on different outfits beforehand because I wanted to be cool enough to go to Bang. Jennie is not like that AT ALL. She is so chill and good at what she does. I recommend her enthusiastically.

I have straight, thick hair. Its easy to manage and easy to cut. Unless you are tapping your foot, asking the hair-washing guy to get your next client ready, and only halfheartedly paying attention to what you're doing.

This is something I expect when I come in at the end of the day and pay $15 dollars a haircut, knowing that the poor hairdresser has probably been dealing with toddlers and crazies for the past eight hours. But when I pay $42 for a haircut, I expect more than impatience and inattention--even if it is six o'clock.

The next day I called Bang after trying to style the cut, and finding it impossible. The manager immediately offered redo with a different hairdresser. I'm very pleased with management's response, but still annoyed that it didn't go right the first time.

faux-luxury at its finest. I went here for three ahircuts before I finally learned my lesson. The front desk staff is horrible, they messed up two of appointments and did nothing to help, and had a miserable attitude everytime I saw them. The hairdressers are okay, very hit or miss. They don't spend very much time on a men's cut, and just seem to want your money and get you out of the door. The salon itself tries to look 'fancy', but it's really falling apart (broken chairs, mirrors etc). Pretty bad place. I'd recommend Salon Blu over this dump.

I just moved here a few months ago and have dreaded the merry-go-round of trying to find a new stylist. I've been here twice and both times have been *okay* (I use that loosely, but I've just been too scared to get something worse than okay).

I've been to Mark both times at the Verizon Center. He's made me wait at least 15 minutes both times, then acted sorta pissy when he did finally take me back. Maybe it was just a bad day... both days. He didn't speak the whole time while cutting/coloring my hair, which was sorta awkward. Then after they were washing the foils out of my hair, he decided to put toner in my hair, which smelled like straight peroxide. I don't even know why I paid for highlights when my all of my hair was blended into one color with the additional toner... which turned my hair orange!!

it's a very weird set-up being next to a gym. it's very loud and booming the whole time. the back room where they wash your hair and set you under the dryers has a flat screen tv, but a huge couch/bench in the middle where most customers are just left to sit while the stylists disappear into the back rooms.

also-- they wouldn't let me add the tip onto the credit card receipt. had I known that earlier, i would have had more cash on me. they have an atm behind the counter, but i just wanted to book it out of there as fast as i could with my orange hair. more hassles.

overall: take it or leave it, i'd leave it.

Being new to the area, I've been looking for a hair salon for the past month. Two of my friends told me they had gotten their hair done at Bang and said they did a decent job, so I decided....why not.

The service there was okay. The girls working behind the front desk were not that friendly, but the hair dresser that wound up doing my hair was nice. I got highlights, lowlights, toner, and a cut. The highlights/lowlights were okay, but my hair wound up a bit darker than I would have liked. The cut was fine and when it was all blown dry and finished, I was pretty happy with my hair for trying out a new place.

Then I got to the counter and realized that the toner the hair dresser told me she was going to use cost me an extra $25. I wish I had known this beforehand, perhaps I should have asked, but from what I saw on the website, I understood that it would cost $140 with the color and cut. I wound up paying $187, a little pricier than I would have liked. Regardless, I was "okay/good" with the service.

THE NEXT MORNING, I woke up with a CRAZY REACTION ON MY FACE!!  On the sides of my face by my hairline my skin had turned red puffy and irritated. Later in the day it only got worse. I don't know if its an allergic reaction to the toner they used or if she got dye or chemicals on my face, but whatever it is, it is hideous and irritating and I will never be going back there again, except maybe to ask the name of the chemical they used so I can take myself to a doctor if it doesn't go away.

The receptionist who booked my appointment was rude, but the sole reason I went to Bang in the first place is for the new stylist, ANGIE.

I can't comment on other stylists at Bang, but if you are looking for someone new you can trust, try Angie at the verizon center location. I was referred by a friend last year and have never been disappointed with a cut. She listens and does what you ask, but also has the ability to try new things on her own that fit your face (if that is what you ask for). I've referred a friend to her who has curly hair, and she remarked that few stylists really know how to work well with curls and Angie is one of them.

Sue, at the Verizon center location knows hair!  I generally tell the stylist to do whatever they think will look great with my face-shape, and that generally means boring with occasionally a few layers.

Sue, however, took some liberties and gave me an amazing cut.  Its cute, a little edgy and best of all it was only 42 bones.  She's also very cool to talk too.  I highly recommend her.

I was never one to take much time to do my hair outside of the weekends, so when I needed to find an inexpensive hair salon in DC, I figured I'd give Bang a shot.  I randomly picked a stylist, Ryan, based on availability.  It was the best random decision I've made for my hair.  I've now been seeing Ryan for about 2 years (or whenever it was that the Bang Verizon Center opened) and have received compliments on my various cuts.

Ryan is great--very friendly and knowledgeable.  I went in once thinking I needed highlights, but he suggested a semi-permanent color that looked fabulous (and was a whole lot less expensive).  He definitely listens to what I want and uses it to create something that looks good for my hair type and face shape.

I've also seen Michelle for brow and Brazilian waxing.  She makes you feel at ease right away, which is nice when someone is as up close and personal with you as your gyno.  It's not pain free,  but much better than other places I've been too.  Very fast as well, and I've never had any problems with irritation afterwards.

Even though the prices have gone up over the past few years, the services are still a great deal.

I've gone to the Bang near the Verizon Center 3 different times.  After my last experience, I decided to find something else.  The concept of the salon is clever, quick, cheap haircuts in a funky urban setting.  However, every time I went I waited a min of 20 min past my appointment time, and then was once told by my stylist that he couldn't dry my hair because he was really behind-- I wasn't late for my appt. so I expect to get the whole 30 min you pay for.  Anyways, the first two stylists I saw gave me ok cuts, but nothing exceptional.  The last time I recevied a horrible cut--she didn't listen when I asked her to cut about two inches off and then reshape my style, and it took her forever as she seemed new at using scissors.  I was especially upset about this because I didn't schedule my appointment with this stylist, I was told by the front desk I had to see her because the stylist I made an appt. with wasn't available.
For forty bucks before tip, and medicore service, I say go somewhere else before trying this place out.

Yes, Yes YES!!! Incredible salon! I will only let Bang cut my hair! I just moved out of the area and since I plan on being in DC 4+ times a year I am making it a point to continue staying with them as a client.

Bang has consistently given me the best cuts of my life! The stylists are great at knowing face shape and how to flatter it, they have color experts (I may have accidentally dyed my hair a orangish hue on my own and Bang corrected it to my natural color perfectly!!!)

My girlfriends are big on this place too - definitely dont think, go there NOW! :)

RELIEF! This past month has been a long and expensive saga of failed relaxer applications. Going from stylists who was afraid to relax it, to one that did it completely slapdash, it was an absolute godsend that i met with Anastasia at bang to discuss my $200+ hair disaster. We set up an appointment and she did her thing, and the process felt right the whole time.  The ends are a little dry, but considering my hair has been relaxed about four times now, I'm really not upset about it.

Bang to the rescue. Saga over.
