I helped put together the store because the SF Centre was opened :) so we had to wear hard hats to work for awhile because the building was under construction.. the place looked different from when i started.. but shit.. Messy customers... quit piling your shit on the floor... Spent way to much money... all my paychecks from this store went to clothes... lol... "the original crew"
I'm not a Banana girl.
Their stuff always seems like it needs to be tucked in.
Like it should fall below your knees, not above.
And that you need to walk up straight, as well as lift your chin a little when you wear it.
Banana Republic has just never been my scene. Not to mention that their prices never settled with me quite right either.
But yesterday, when scouting for sandal wedges with Connie, I was actually pretty impressed with Banana's stuff. Not all of it, but a decent portion.
They have cute shoes, BEAUTIFUL jewelry (ended up scoring a gold leaf plated, sterling silver pair of hoops for just $25!), and they often have some very good sales....like now.
I'll probably never be a regular shopper here, but I like knowing that if I need to buy work appropriate attire or some summer essentials - Banana Republic will always carry the basics.

What can I say. I'm the Asian who likes to shop at Banana Republic.
In so saying, my current position entails business casual, especially when conducting interviews and networking, so although I'm not much of a suit enforcer, looking clean and pressed at times is not a lot of work for me. Although, finding myself in the city surrounded by nicely put together males and females bustling along the Financial district made me revamp my closet. It was out with the old and in with the new.
Banana Republic is my new salvation. I've found great coordinates that are produced with great fabrics as well as colors and functionality. During my perusing, I came across a pretty silk pink blouse with a gathered neckline in addition to a black silk top with black polka dots that gathered in the back. Both of these would work well under a suit or over jeans on a more casual night out.
The prices, however, are not as forgiving. My pink top was marked down to $39.99 and the black silk top around $49.99. I walked out with $90 tab for just two tops. But in terms of quality and flexibility, in addition to a style that won't go out, it was a good investment. In fact, I wore it underneath a pantsuit I wore to a conference today and thought, damn, I actually look good ;O)
Staff here are friendly but not intruding. They kept on folding clothes, but did acknowledge that I was there. I'm one of those shoppers that don't appreciate a lot of hoopla surrounding me or my motives....just let me shop in peace. I know where the check stands are.

I totally thought this place was going to be something more on the lives of a tropical fruit vendor or a place that sold bananas and coffee and guerrilla warfare. I was wrong and it wasn't even humid inside. I did however find a great pair of chinos and nice striped shirt for when I have to go into the office.

I tried not to heed the call of Banana, but somehow it got me. I've bought a total of two items from here now, and though I think their regular prices are ridonkulous, the sale racks do afford some good(ish) deals.
Some of the clothes are extremely "office drone," but they always look nice and comfortable, and I suppose you could make them look more unique with some cool accessories...right?
I hope so, because I have a feeling the Banana will call me back again soon.
Friendly, attentive staff but not overkill. They don't bother you every minute to get the sale. Thank you!
When I go shopping, the last thing I expect is to be followed around like I'm a criminal. I understand that stores have to be careful and be aware of potential shoplifters, but they shouldn't automatically assume just because a person doesn't look like the person that normally shops at their store, that person is only there to shoplift. Never in my life have I been followed around by a store employee like I was at the Banana Republic.
Besides, their clothes are discriminating in that they don't have any sizes other than for the super skinny or physically fit. If you don't have below a 36 inch waist, then don't even think of finding something to wear from Banana Republic.
I ordered 5 sweaters online (they were on sale and that's the only time I buy stuff from BR) and went here to return 3 of them (didn't like the colour, didn't like the fit and the third was absolutely not what I expected). Service was very friendly, and fast.
Yes, their selection of clothing and accessories is classic (and sometimes boring). But I can see myself shopping here for conservative work outfits (should I ever choose to do so). I think that the quality of the clothes and accessories is not good enough for the price that you pay. You have to hand wash them because otherwise wear will show after just one cycle in the washing machine...

now i don't have to walk all the way to the actual flagship store to shop at banana republic. i'm glad there's a more convenient location, as i rearely shop around the area where the flagship is at...
of course this location doesn't have everything the larger location carries, but it will do in times of convenience...
i rarely purchase banana republic clothes as i don't really need alot of business/work clothes, which banana republic seems more appropriate for...
husband get's to stock up on shirts and slacks, but we've found out that their slacks (at least the men's ones) tend to shrink after a few trips to the dry cleaners...

I told myself I would never be a Banana Republic shopper but somehow I have managed to not only shop here but actually enjoy it. I work for a nonprofit so I dress business casual and Banana Republic has been a godsend for me. I found great deals on cashmere sweaters and boot cut Chino's.
Banana Republic has allowed me to wear "business casual" without feeling like I'm a corporate clone and I was surprised on how affordable it was in comparison to its much less classy sister the gap. I've graduated to Banana Republic and I'm not going back to the gap.
Now before y'all say "Jeez, you're just buying what everyone else is buying." "Boring." There's something to be said for their selection. Yes, it can be mind numbingly boring in the business wear. I mean there's just only so many ways you can design black work slacks, skirts and jackets, right? Right. It's the other stuff that I'm interested in. The ocassional piece that is made that makes you stop and think, "Wow. It's different but not in that high school way of screaming look-it-me-I'm-an-individual!" So anyway, where was I? Oh yes, BR is not all that bad and good stuff can be found. What's really sad is that I've figured out that they mark things down on Wednesdays and am able to look at most anything and accurately guess what the first markdown price is. And? The Friends & Family discount event that they have? Almost not really worth doing because about a week or two later they markdown everything to about the same or more than the discount offered. So you could chance it and avoid the crazy ass line during F&F and buy it a couple weeks later for roughly the same price without having scary people who are eyeing the things in your hands trailing you around the store waiting for you to set it down.
