**Update: I went to Banana this weekend and the service was fabulous.  The employee who helped me, I think her name was Nadia (?), was incredibly helpful and kind.  So, I am temporarily rescinding my previous criticisms and adding another star.**

I don't understand why Banana Republic has such poor customer service.  My experience at the Galleria Banana was similar to my experiences elsewhere in the US.  The scene is this: I am wandering around with a handful of clothes, trying to get a dressing room, and the employees are gabbing by the jewelry case, oblivious to me or anyone else in the store.   When an employee finally offers to help me, it is done with the wonderful half-assed, can't be bothered approach.  Given the employee's apathy and general distaste in customer service, I always question why this person applied for the job, why Banana hired them, and why they still have their job.

I don't know if the Banana employees receive commission, but if they do they missed a great opportunity last Wednesday when I was in the store.  Basically, I am easy prey and every sales person's dream. Give me a little bit of attention; make me feel a wee bit special; and I will not walk out of the store without making a purchase.  When I'm ignored, I always remember the Pretty Woman scene and am tempted to approach the staff and ask, "Do you make commission?" And then say, "Big mistake. Big mistake."

Okay, I will stop ranting and explain why I gave the store any stars at all, much less three.  Banana's line this fall is particularly nice.  It has a sixties edge, but with a contemporary feel.  I did not get a chance to take a thorough look because I was so ticked off with the staff, but will go again to take a better look at the clothing.  I also took note of the jewelry, which consists of some fun and chunky pieces.   In particular, I saw a great three layer strand of large pearls, which was fabulous.

So, if you are looking for some relatively inexpensive but nice fall clothes and are not offended by dismissive staff, then head to Banana at the Galleria.
