    Winner!

My little family of 6 (!) walked up as they were closing.   The manager, or  possibly the owner, was nice enough to let us in.  :)

2 orders of dessert crepes, 2 gigantic orders of shaved ice, 1 blintz order, and a smoothy.  Everyone was extremely happy.

We'll be regulars from now on.

Oh So Yummy! Tucked in neatly in Japan town is this really cool hole in the wall restaurant with everything made fresh as you place your order. I had "The Works" which is a crepe loaded vanilla ice cream, nutella, strawberries and bananas, topped with whipped cream. DELICIOUS!!
I also had a bit of the veggie crepe and it was quite refreshing. It had a salad with a vinaigrette dressing, avocado and tomatoes, very good!
    Will definitely go back! :)

This place never loses it's charm! I love how the owner is so chill and everything seems to be family-run. The milk teas here are also deliciousssssssssssss, albeit they would be better if they went easy on the ice.

Requested for my crepe to be particularly crispy and oh my god I'm already craving it all over again. The Strawberries and Nutella with whipped cream is always just right! I actually don't recommend ice cream in crepes through all my experiences with it.... it melts really fast since the crepe is still semi-warm and you become too fixated with gobbling the ice cream before it melts that you can't really enjoy it fully.

Best crepe ever! First off, the crepe is huge; easily twice that of a normal crepe you buy elsewhere. The ingredients are fresh and they don't skimp  like other places tend to. I ordered the banana and chocolate ice cream with whip cream.  All ingredients were spread evenly throughout the crepe, which is quite rare.  The whip cream is okay, not fresh made.  The crepe skin is thin and crispy at the edge, but soft at the "body."

This is one place that I will be back.

I had the veggie crepe and it's really good. The salad dressing is very tangy/vinegary but overall a very healthy choice (w/ avocadoes and tomatoes). I really liked it and we also tried "The Works." Pretty awesome! Small little place but cute interior, run by a family and they also have shaved ice. Definitely would come back.

I love their crepes! My favorite is The Works. It's a freshly made sweet crepe with strawberry, banana, kiwi, ice cream, nutella, and whip cream. Oh delicious dessert! It cost $7.75 and is enough to share for three people.

Review is for the Milk Tea only, as that's all I got here.  Boba was excellent, tasty and had a little bit of that goop around it, but a little too chewy... still far better than average.  The tea was also quite good, real tea.  Portion was a little small for the price, but you can't have everything. I'd drop by again if I was in the area.

Not for those with a fear of monkeys... coming in this store would break your will.

The first time I was there, I ordered the Tiger Blood shaved ice. It was ok.
The second time, I decided to ordered the mango, green tea, and peach flavored shaved ice with condensed milk and azuki beans. mmm I found my favorite!
It was so good and smooth. The shaved ice is not rough at all!
A lot of monkey plushes hanging down on the ceiling (don't go inside if you are monkey-phobic :) ask someone to place the order inside.)
The price is only $3 for the shaved ice and 2 flavors. It's $0.25 for an extra flavor. Condensed milk is $0.50 and azuki beans are $0.50.
    Go try it out!

$3 for a 2-flavor shave ice, enough for 2-3 people to share. Perfectly shaved, super fine, soft ice with no chunks or snow-coney type ice. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that there was a white center spot in the mountain of snow with no syrup at all. Otherwise, it was goooood and I'll go back whenever I'm in the area.

I shared the banana strawberry dessert crepe with the hubby which came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and obviously, banana and strawberries. We also got the mango passion smoothie.

I liked the smoothie more than the crepe.

I thought the crepe was going to be so good as it looked great on the plate but the actual crepe I felt was too thick and more like a pancake and hardly had any flavor. The strawberries weren't that sweet either.

The smoothie was delicious and I was sorry I had to share it.

The place is cute with monkeys everywhere. Kinda small but you can find a place to sit either inside or out. Prices are good because things can be shared.

But since the place had "crepe" in the name, I thought it was going to be delicious and it wasn't. I would go back for the smoothie and maybe to try some other offerrings but maybe not to kill my crepe craving.

I love this place! One of the very few places to get a yummy crepe. I get a big, fat and plump crepe of my dreams for under $6 bucks. I always come here if I need a crepe fixin'. Be careful! They don't open on Mondays; made that mistake a couple times. And make sure you pay your parking meter. I also heard great things about their shaved ice but sadly, I haven't been able to try some.

I've gone here quite a few times, and I've always been more than satisfied with my experience... but I don't know what happened today!  But I'm pissed off enough to update my yelp review and to guarantee that I will NOT be coming back here anymore.

I'm big on Groupon/Livingsocial/SF Gate Daily Deals/whatever will get me a discount.  I love when places that I already love have special deals that I can take advantage of or if someplace that I've heard of and want to try has a special deal... so when I saw Banana Crepe's SFGate Daily Deal (for $13 you get 2 crepes and 2 smoothies or shaved ices... a $26 value) I was so excited!  I love their shaved ice over here and now I was going to get to try their crepes as well?!?  A win-win!  Now I admit, I've been putting off using the coupon because Japantown is way out of my way now and whenever I'm craving shaved ice--its late and they've already closed.  But when I was looking at my certificate last week, I realized that the expiration date was coming up!  I'm stupid, I thought today was the 16th, and I didn't realize that it expired on the 16th (which was actually yesterday) until I was already at the restaurant.  No bigs I figured... the guy is always super nice so I'm sure he'll let me slide the day, or worst case scenario, I can still get $13 worth of crepes and shaved ice (which again, no big for us because we really just wanted two shaved ice's and we were cool with splitting a crepe just to try it).

Imagine my surprise when the people who worked there were downright rude today!  First of all, G and I were waiting at the counter for a good 5 minutes before ANYONE even recognized us.  And when they finally recognized us, it was just to tell us that they would be with us "in a minute".  We try to be patient and spend our time perusing the menu so that when she was ready for us, we could tell her exactly what we wanted.  Another 5 minutes later, one of them finally asks us what we'd like and I explained the situation.  All she would say is "oh well, this is expired so you don't get anything".  I then said "I still get the $13 worth of stuff, this is CA and your voucher for something you PAID for cannot expire' and she kept insisting that I don't get anything anymore because it expired yesterday... She then asked the owner and he said the same thing.

This is where I have an issue.  This is such a sweet mom-and-pop kinda place that I love supporting because they aren't a chain or anything.  They genuinely seem to enjoy serving their customers and they're usually so nice and sweet.  I understand being unable to honor the full value of the deal, but again, they need to know the CA STATE LAW that says that the paid amount cannot expire, EVER.  And just in case I was stupid today, I double checked the SFGate website and look what I found:

"What happens if my SFGate Daily Deals Voucher expires?
When a voucher reaches the stated expiration date, it loses its promotional value, which is the total amount you would have received in services or products.

Not to worry, however. You can still redeem an expired voucher for the price that you paid for as long as the gift certificate laws in your state require it."

    ... booyah grandma.

So anywayyyyy, I left REALLY angry, REALLY hungry (because I was hardcore craving that strawberry dessert crepe and shaved ice with tiger's blood and lychee syrup after waiting 10 minutes), and just REALLY not down to go back there ever again.  I now have to talk to SFGate and have them refund my money or credit my account or SOMETHING because like I said, I refuse to go back there.

Goodbye Banana Crepe, its been an awesome few years of you fulfilling my shaved ice needs... but you know what, there are hundreds of other crepe/shaved ice/smoothie places out there, and a bunch that are a helluv a lot closer to my home than the almost 30 minutes I had to spend going to Japantown.  I'll be taking my cash elsewhere.

I absolutely love the food quality here. even the drinks were good. I ordered a cappuccino slushy and it was excellent. I had lunch with a friend here a few days ago and I'm so glad she recommended this place or I would never have found them. I love the crepes selection that they have too. I will definitely come back here with some friends.

The only thing is that there are only 5-6 tables, so don't always bet that you will have a place to sit during the lunch rush hour. There are 2 tables outside also.

I'm craving the crepes and cappuccino drink already!

THIS IS MY BREAKFAST SPOT!  I love working near Banana Crepe, means I've been lucky enough to become a regular here most days.  Marty, the owner, is really nice & so are all the girls who work for him.  The crepes and shaved ice are fantastic.  The lattes are very good, as well.  Even if you're not in the mood for a big, filled, dessert-like crepe, the SBL (Sugar-Butter-Lemon) Crepe is a perfect small bite!  LOVE this place!!

I went here for the shaved ice. It's not the best I have had. After going to Matsumoto's and Ulalena's in Oahu and Maui I have had a high standard for shaved ice. But for a local shaved ice dessert this place is good. The serving is very huge. I didn't finish mine. This place is very colorful with lots of stuffed monkeys everywhere. I have to try crepes next time.

Every time we come in here, my 4 year old son chants "Tiger's blood!  Tiger's blood!".  No, he's not making a Charlie Sheen impression - he's excited about Banana Crepe's shave ice flavor - a red mix of cherry, strawberry and watermelon.  We usually get that with pineapple and coconut with the vanilla ice cream, condensed milk and azuki beans (on the side).  We share this between two happy adults and two spoiled kids (whose first experience of shave ice was in Hawaii).

It tastes very authentic!  It really takes us back to the islands and sparks conversations of past vacations, beautiful beaches & warm weather.

We've never had the chance (or the room I should say, as this is usually preceded by a heavy hawaiian meal at Hukilau next door) to try their crepes.  Their menu for that looks amazing!  Will have to try that next time.

Ca$h only!  And don't forget change for the meters.

Always passed by this place but decided to stop in after lunch at a nearby restaurant

Man, their shaved ice servings are gigantor!!  They're like slurpies in a bowl...Packed with flavor in every little each piece of ice particle.  It's amazing and quite a wonder how every bite is so flavor intense.  It's cheap too with tons of flavors to choose from.  You can mix and match as well as throw in some goodies (i.e., sweet condensed milk) for more punch.

So glad we stopped in.  There are crepes here of every flavor, shape and kind it seemed like.  People were ordering two or three of their various types.  That's next on our list to order the next time we're in Japantown.

Crepes = they're ok.  Everyone knows that this is the best place for shaved ice.

But what nets them five stars is their coffee.  They roast their own beans (using Lonely Monk coffee) and they are DELICIOUS, probably the most savory sweet (without sweetener) coffee I've ever tasted.  They'll roast you a pound or more to order.

The espresso drinks are good and reasonably priced.  A double is $3 for most things...no extra charge for soy, syrup 25 cents (reasonable), blended 50 cents (reasonable), iced 50 cents (a little odd, but whatevs.)  They'll do anything you want with the drinks too, like if you ask nicely I'm sure they won't mind putting shaved ice flavored syrups in your drink.  I got a blended latte with azuki beans at the bottom, whch was the most refreshing thing ever.

I'd go here over Roy's any day, it's better, cheaper, cozier, & employees are friendlier and more down to earth.

    ooohhhhhh my goooosh.

I went here after a huge dinner at Hukilau and I couldn't finish the whole shaved ice! i don't remember what I ordered but I really liked the toppings (tapioca, azuki, and something else). Once I started getting overly full, I started eating the toppings off of the shaved ice.

It was delish. I'm not a fan of shaved ice. I'm more into chocolate but this was a good substitute to satisfy my sweet tooth after a huge meal.

Boyfriend was craving crepes yesterday so we finally had the chance to try Banana Crepe. Really cute place. I love the Island atmosphere!

He got the Strawberry Banana Dessert Crepe (Strawberry, Banana, Ice Cream, Nutella, Whipped Cream)  and it looked delicious! The man who took our order was really nice and the girl who made the food was extremely fast. The wait was about 8-10 minutes? But watching her make most of the orders made the wait time go by fast and we didn't mind at all.

Next time we come back, I'm gonna try their shave ice :) Yum!

Cash only! It's a bit small inside, but they have a few tables outside that is more ideal for me, especially when the weather is nice.

This hole in the wall and I will have an eternal relationship, I just know it. My best friend took us here one Saturday afternoon, and it was one shop among few that were open at 3 in the afternoon. We passed a few windows selling high-rise sno-cones... thank god we didn't settle!

first things first, CASH ONLY! don't make the same mistake as me :( we were only able to order two menu items because of insufficient funds. I wanted to try the boba!!

once we got there, the line and wait were both pretty long. it was a hot day... bring a fan if you're not trying to sweat.

    THINGS TO TRY!
Strawberry and Kiwi/Nutella crepe. Hold the whipped cream if you're like me.. hehe. They give a lot!  Can you believe that the ice cream comes standard on this bad boy? This crepe was so fat, it took both my boyfriend and I to finish it.
Guava snowcone! It really freaking tastes like guava. I don't know what they're putting in it... but I like it. Also, try the beans on top! only fifty cents more!

Best best best snow-cone place i've been to. I bet the boba is to die for!

I loveee crepe and the only time that I would get some if when I go to SF with the bf. We would drop by Japantown and get some at Sophie's crepe. I've been to Banana crepe before, but it was like 2 years ago. So after dinner the other day, I was craving for some crepe so we decided to give this place a shot again. We came around 8:30Pm and the place was packed. The line was all the way out the door. We ordered:

Strawberry and whipped cream crepe: I got this cause I am not a big fan of nutella. It was really good... The crepe batter reminded me of Crepe Uni in Davis, but unfortunately they're closed. I like my crepe kinda crispy but this one was just really soft, but it's totally better than all the other places that offers crepes around the bay.

The Works: This is like their full house crepe... It came with all different kind of fruits, whipped cream, nutella, and ice cream. I got this for my cousins. I took it home and they all liked it alot. I am sure they'll be asking me to come back there and get them more soon.

Strawberry and Lychee Hawaiian shaved ice: This was just good. It tasted like an icee to me... Really refreshing on a hot day.

Overall, I found a place to go to for crepe in San Jose now. The place is pretty small, but I think it's nicely decorated with all the monkeys. I think it gets really stuffy and hot inside when it's busy, so I preferred sitting outside. I hope they have a/c.. It wasn't on last night so it was really bad inside. Also, the wait for the crepe was just really slow. They only have 1 oven making the crepe wrap so be prepared to wait cause they can only make 1 crepe at a time. I would say it's at least a 15 minutes wait for a crepe. Another downside is that they close at 9 on weekdays and even earlier on weekends... Kinda suck cause I like having my crepe a lil late. But in the end, the crepe here are great... Probably the best I've had so far in San Jose.

It seems like everything on the menu is A-OK.  I've once ordered a mung bean smoothie and it was great, especially for the price.  The shave ice and crepes are yummy and come in huge portions, but they're nothing exceptional.  I'd prefer the crepes to be a bit crispier.  A friend also ordered some kind of coffee drink (I forget which) and said it was delicious.  But then again, she's also a fan of Starbucks so I guess you'll have to take her opinion with a grain of salt.  Hah.

Bottom line: cute interior, pretty good desserts, ginormous portions, fair prices, cash only, and conveniently located in Japantown.

I love this place, omg. My friend and I were just chilling, and we stopped here to get a drink since she was craving a crepe, and I was craving for something sweet. I'm a huge fan of the caramel frap. Ugh, it's so good. But when I went with my friend, I bought a mocha(flavored drink) with exploding boba. It was so good, dear god. And it's so cheap too! I came here yesterday for the first time!! OMFG, this little shack is legit!! First off let me tell you that out of all the crappy Asian places that serve wannabe "Hawaiian Ice" this REAL location in Japantown is the shit! wow! I love Banana Crepe. The prices are freakin cheap, there are generous amounts of flavors, toppings, and the best of all, the size is just perfect for one person AND believe me, I can eat.

I ordered 2 flavors: coconut and pineapple with condensed milk and vanilla ice cream. Their ice here is soo fine and its thicker than snow which gives you that great slurp. The flavors do really stick out and the good thing to me is that the syrup and ice isn't too sweet. Overall, their shaved ice is BOMB here!

Service is efficient and their choice of music has a great impact in drawing in their customers. They play that good J boog Hawaiian reggae jam.

    CHAAAAAHOOOOOO!

This hole in the wall is flippin fantastic! Came here for the first time during this year's Obon Festival. Have been meaning to go but they have weird hours. Got myself a vanilla ice cream, strawberries, whip, and NUTELLA crepe. No crepe is complete without Nutella, I know that for a fact and I don't care if you don't like chocolate! The crepe was nicely panned and not too chewy or soft, melt in your mouth. I would definately come back to try their shaved ice, which had a line out the door. Friendly service and cash only.

    Crepes - 4.5 stars
    Ambiance - 4 stars

Banana Crepe is by far, my favorite dessert place in the South Bay.  Located in good ol' Japantown SJ, how I miss you Banana C!
It's a super cozy dessert spot overrun with stuffed monkeys on the ceilings.  Yup.  That's right.  Monkeys galore.  Ooh ooh ahh ahh!  :-)  Anywhere else, I'd be freaked-- but the monkeys work here.  It's even cute.

I love this place for their shaved ice and dessert crepes... mmm nutella and tons of fruit!  Yumminess!
The workers/owner are all very friendly, and it's a vibe you don't get too often around here.   Little slice of sweet tooth heaven.  When you're missing that Hawaiian vibe, stop by Hukilau and then come here.  You'll be glad you came!

My only (small) gripe is that they have funky hours and close early some days. There have been several occasions where I wanted a fix, came by, and *sad face!*  they were closed.  :-(  I believe they are closed on Mondays and early on Sundays/Tuesday's -- so check their hours before you come!

Yummo hawaiian shaved ice! Huge portion for a small person like me, I'd recommend sharing it. I had the tiger blood flavor with condensed milk all over it... perfect combination! You get two flavors for $3 and you can add on extras such as vanilla ice cream, condensed milk and some others for a little bit more.

I can see this place getting super busy during the hot summer days because I haven't found a yummy hawaiian shaved ice place like this ever! So glad to live super close to this joint because for sure I will be coming back throughout the summer.

Ur first time here? Then check your wallets, it's CASH ONLY!

I ordered a Banana Double Chocolate Crepe ($6.25). It was a good portion, it can be shared and you wont be hating the other person that ate your other half. It had a whole banana, nutella and chocolate ice cream. I wish the crepe was a lil bit crispier tho =[

Shaved Ice are BIG, I didn't order one because I wouldnt be able to finish it by myself. I'm lookin for someone that would go with me to try it. It's only $3 for two flavors.

**NO MONKEY BUSINESS WITH SHAVED ICE AND CREPES**

    Moms and pops place.

    Monkeys everywhere.

    Friendly family staff.

    ORDERED:

*STRAWBERRY BLINTZ - Strawberries did not taste sweet. The cream cheese needs to be sugared. It tasted too *raw*. Should have ordered a banana crepe.

*TWO FLAVORS SHAVED ICE - Lychee and pineapple flavors with azuki beans and vanilla ice cream. I am a premium ice cream snob, so the ice cream here did not impress me. Not creamy enough. Tasted too artificial. However, I liked the fluffy shaved ice.

    Tables to eat outside.

    Tables to eat inside.

Reasonably priced: $10.75 for both my crepe and shaved ice.

Overall, a good spot to hang out and satisfy your crepe cravings. Shaved ice wise, I've had better.

I lived right next to japantown for over two years and finally decided to check this place out. Really quaint place with a low key vibe, however, it does get busy. There's usually two to three people working but if it's busy expect a wait of about 10 minutes to get your order. But it's chill cause you can just hang out around lovely j-town while you wait. I've had the Veggie crepe, Hawaiian crepe, and iced chai.

There's the cutest elderly couple that I believe run the place, the lady made the ice chai without any milk and it was the best chai I've ever had. The next time I went and ordered the same thing they made it with milk (the way it was intended, but def not as good). So order a crepe, and get a iced chai with no milk and you'll be set. It's a bit pricey for what it is, but the atmosphere and family-run roots that flow through this spot make it a legit place to check out every now and then.

The hawaiian shaved ice is sooo good and refreshing on a hot day. I went on a cool day and froze my ass off but still enjoyed it. For $3, you get to pick 2 flavors for your shaved ice but there is extra charge for stuff like ice cream, condensed milk, li hing mui powder, etc. My shaved ice was flavored with li hing mui and passionfruit syrups with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle. The shaved ice is definitely smooth and "fluffy"... I hate when shaved ice is like little chunks of ice (like sno-cones) cause then all I'm doing is munching on flavored ice.

It's a nice after-lunch/dinner treat especially if you're a fatass like me and was full from dinner but just had to have some type of dessert... I felt guilt-free!
