5 reviews for Bamiyan Afghan Restaurant
I've been here twice now and it's one of my new faves! The food is a little expensive it seems, but I'll pay it.
The first time I had Mantoo, which was a dumpling dish in a creamy sauce. It was delicious. Last night I had Chicken Shammi Kebab, which was basically ground chicken breast made into a sausage type thing with onions and spices. It was delicious and well accompanied with amazing pumpkin puree and spinach rice.
The service is pretty good here and I love the decor. The bathroom is very fancy too, but the Afghan rugs everywhere really add the finishing touch!
The food is a little overpriced, but nonetheless its phenomenal!
I haven't had afghan food before and my coworker said that this place was pretty good. I'd have to agree. I thought the food was very tasty and the presentation and ambiance was a place where you can take a hot date or your boss. I can't remember what I got but it was a lamb curry with rice with dates/raisins/nuts. Excellent. The dessert was goat milk pudding. Even better. It's true that it may be a little more than a typical meal but I find the quality worth it.
Famous for: Quality, upscale afghan food.
Hidden behind the El Dorado Town Center Shopping Center, Bamiyan serves some excellent Afghan food. We had the Ashak and Mantoo ($12.95 lunch; $16.95 dinner) - both basically dumplings with a spiced beef, yellow split pea mixture topped with a yogurt, garlic, and mint sauce. Although both sides were great, I would also recommend the eggplant over the spiced pumpkin; it had a wonderful tart flavor.
If you're in the mood for a nice lunch (or dinner), this is definitely good place to visit.
My husband and I went there last night; I love Afghani food, and he thought it would be a nice treat. It was a Saturday night, and we got there right before 7 p.m.
We arrived, and snagged the last free table. Right after we were seated, probably 10 - 15 more people showed up in parties of various sizes.
It took a little while for the waiter to get there and get our order, but not too bad -- maybe 10, 15 minutes. However, it took FORTY FIVE MINUTES for our appetizer to show up. It took another 45 minutes for our main course to appear. Believe it or not, however, we were the lucky ones...
We watched in amazement as party after party showed up at the door, only to stand there awkwardly, completely ignored, for up to 15 minutes, even while servers and hostesses walked right past them.
Some parties were asked to sit at the bar and wait for a table, only to be ignored there, too. A family of 5 walked out in disgust after waiting with no acknowledgement at the bar for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, server after server would come to the bar, pour the drinks they needed, and leave, never speaking to the people waiting at the bar.
As I mentioned, the food was good, but not up to the quality I've had in private Afghani homes.
The waitress mentioned that they were "slammed," and that was the reason for the poor service, but come on! To not even acknowledge people sitting at a bar or waiting at the door? That was pretty bad.
I don't think we'll be back. It took us over 2 hours to get two appetizers served to us and two main dishes. Slammed or not, it was pretty horrible service.
