Are you serious?! Have I really not written a review for Bamboo Song?! Wow, I am slippin because this is a place to rave about.

I dont care what anyone says, but no one can touch their pho. Everyone likes to talk crap about how they are just okay here; how it's a Vietnamese place ran by Koreans, but I have yet to find a pho better than Bamboo Song's. The meat is fresh, the broth is light with the perfect amount of flavor. The greens served on the side are refreshing.

The pho is not the only thing they have going for themselves here. The fried rice is probably my favorite friend rice of all time. The egg rolls, are also a favorite and come second only to Tin Sing's (RIP) which were on a playing field of their own. Also, something to try is the sizzling pork. And yes it is served on a sizzling platter. Very delicious.

So, if you are in the mood for something fresh, light, with just the right amount of flavor, and maybe even heat if you are feelin naughty, then Bamboo Song is the place for you.

Do not get their "Sumi Salad".

It is nothing like the photo on their menu board.

It was just a giant plastic bowl with roughly cut cabbage, bulky carrots and cucumbers, a few slices of tomatoes, scarce mandarin oranges and peanuts with a side of some Chinese chicken salad dressing that you can probably get at a grocery store.

Pho was edible but probably one of the least favorites I've had. The broth was hot but foggy, meaning not a clean, clear soup. Noodles were overcooked that it was sunken in the middle of the broth in a sticky bundle. We had to take some time to separate them all before eating.

When we walked in, it was empty and deserted... The only reason why they're still operating is probably because this place is like the only Pho restaurant within the hills of Palos Verdes.

This is pretty much a take-out place, so don't expect stellar or even mediocre customer service.    There was a lot to be desired from the bad timing of bringing out our order to the lady not refilling our waters.

I got the BBQ shrimp & pork vermicelli place.  It came in a bowl with too little meat, too many noodles and random iceberg lettuce under the vermicelli making the dish look bigger than it was. Tricky!

The main plus is that there is a mix of your choice of Asian cuisine like Japanese sushi, Korean BBQ and bibimbap or Vietnamese pho.  Some rice dishes seemed like Chinese style rice dishes as well.

Terrible pho. It's not totally inedible so it gets 2 stars rather than 1 but if you want Pho, take the extra 10 minutes and drive to Pho Hana on Hawthorne.

before i begin, i have to confess that im a pho-aholic. I've had pho every darn day for 2 weeks in the past and even went to vietnam for pho. I'm serious.

This place's pho is not the real deal folks. Simple as that. their pho is very inconsistent day to day. But even when their cook is having the best day of his life, their pho is B-rated at best.

If you are desperate for a bowl of pho but dont want to drive down to torrance, do yourself a favor and go to pho hana in the pv mall just up the street at the very least.

i have no personal feeling involved in this review. I just love pho and feel passionate about the dish and theres no worse feeling than coming out of a pho restaurant feeling not satisfied for me.

I haven't been to that many pho places, but Bamboo Song always hits the spot for me. Yes I admit, the decor is strange, and the owners/servers are not always the friendliest, but I don't go to a pho restaurant for their service. I've only tried a couple of other things on the menu, and from experience, I will probably never order anything other then the chicken pho.

There's a sign in here that says, roughly, "Diners beware!! We report ALL dining and dashing TO THE POLICE!" Strange, right? But after eating lunch here, I can completely understand why one would dine and dash from this lousy establishment. You get:

    * A pho dac biet ("Saigon Special", yea!) with neither tendon nor tripe, as promised on the menu, nor meatballs -- just mushy grey steak and a slice of brisket floating in dull broth.

    * A sad plate of bean sprouts and lime quarters, with not even a jalapeno to spare.

    * Watery Sriracha. Oh, come on! Real green-tipped cock sauce isn't even that expensive.

    * Wobbly table and sticky soup spoons. This place needs a good scrubbing.

    * Eggrolls with a weird, overly sweet filling and tasteless nuoc cham to go with it.

I used to come here often in high school, and I came back today... not for the memories per se, but for the fact this tony little peninsula of ours is an ethnic FOOD DESERT, and I didn't feel like driving down the hill. I don't know if I'm merely jaded, having had much better pho elsewhere, or if this restaurant has simply gotten worse, but I suspect it's a bit of both.

They're the only authentic Asian food place on the hill. Their pho is decent. Their egg rolls are good, but sometimes overcooked. I'd go here if I was craving pho and didn't have time to drive down the hill.

I have been eating here for about 10 years and although it may not be the BEST pho out there, it definitely hits the spot and satisfies me every time. Compared to other pho restaurants, the broth is extremely ungreasy. I also like how in the Chicken Pho, you get white meat, no fat. I also like how in the Seafood Pho, you get a real crab leg in it. The service may not be the best, because they don't speak English very well, but everyone there knows me, so they're always nice to me! Another dish I always order is the spring rolls. Pretty standard. My one wish is that they would give jalapenos out with the pho toppings like they used to.

Working nearby, I used to frequent this spot fairly often to get pho and some of their other random dishes but lately the quality has really tailed off. The pho has gotten ridiculously greasy and you can feel the MSG work it's way down your throat after the first bite. My coworkers got the spicy tuna bowl and the rice was absolutely disgraceful. I think it was a couple of days old and it felt like we were chewing on rice flavored tic tacs. The stench from just sitting in there will linger on your clothes for days so if you have an important meeting or a hot date I suggest you go elsewhere.

If you want pho and you live on the hill, go to Pho Hana by the Pinkberry. The pho is way cleaner and they even give you free red bean dessert!

I've had only one dish from Bamboo Song, and that's gonna have to be the one that's reviewed here, because I'm hesitant to return.

I asked the proprietor to recommend something for my lunch today, and she pointed around to indicate that almost everyone in the little dining room was eating soup.
I should have listened to her.
Instead I went with BBQ shrimp & pork with vermicelli.  To go.  (There were no tables left, no place to sit.)

The aroma that filled my car on the drive home was incredible, so my expectations were high.
But.....the portion was disappointingly skimpy for $7.25.  See my photo, taken immediately after I opened the take-out container, on my kitchen counter.

The whole meal rested on a bed of crisp lettuce, that was OK.  The vermicelli was cooked perfectly, that was good, too.  Shrimp.....not bad, not many of them, maybe 3 smallish ones.
The pork.....leathery.  Way overcooked.  Hard to tell if it was beef or pork.

Overall, the meal was very light......and also almost tasteless.

As I looked around the restaurant while waiting for my order, the portions  appeared huge.  The tempura looked good, as did the sushi.  I can't imagine why my order turned out the way it did.

Well....maybe I'll try the soup sometime, we'll see.  I pass this little place frequently.  I'm on the PV Hill 3 or 4 times a week at least.

There might be a second dining area someplace at Bamboo Song......I thought I spotted a second entrance as I was driving away.....but the area I saw had 8 tables, and was no-frills cozy and cute.

Service was efficient, but not particularly warm.  But that's cool with me, as long as the food is good.
I had a bird's eye view of the cook while waiting for my food, as I stood right outside the kitchen door.  It was fascinating.  Then I was asked to wait outside the front entrance to the restaurant....haha!  I was directed to a sunny little seat at the only little outdoor table. Methinks I was in the way of the servers leaving the kitchen.
There was a guy outside waiting, too, standing off to the side, so that must be the rule, lol.
Anyways, it was a nice little adventure.

And please note that the hours have changed.  They are no longer closed on Wednesday, they are open 7 days.
    Monday - Saturday:   10:30am  -  9pm
    Sunday:   Noon  -  9pm

I loved this, written on the front page of Bamboo Song's menu:
"When the sun sets behind island mountains
and the cool evening breeze comes in from the South China Sea,
rustling through the thick bamboo growth above the beach,
you can hear the bamboo singing..."

How very lovely.  Makes me want to get on an international flight.......

Since moving to PV I'd been really jonesing for some Pho and was really looking forward to trying this place based on the good reviews, and it being a hole in the wall with such a huge menu.  I finally came in here the other night accompanied by my bf who just tagged along to keep me company while I ate.

First thing that went wrong: inexperienced tenny bopper waitress wouldn't bring us both water and tea.... She straight up refused to, looked uncomfortable, muttered something in japanese, and left the table after I asked for another glass of water.  Wtf. water nazis!? not cool.  She also couldnt tell me how big the different sizes were for pho bowls, so I just thought what the hell and ordered a large with no meat, which was 5 bucks.  It was huge, and yes, totally worth the 5 bucks, however, the broth just wasnt that good. Maybe I squeezed too much lime in it or something, but i'm not sure what it was...it just wasnt very satisfying.

All I know is that I've definitely had better pho AND better service.  I think I'll stick with Vietnamese pho, only to come back here if I get a gnarly craving for the stuff and don't want to leave the hill. Disappointing, but not awful.

ALSO, really overpriced bento.  for japanese, I suggest going elsewhere

This is my FAVORITE pho place. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because I almost never get the feeling that "I MUST GO TO BAMBOO SONG" again and again and again -- though I do frequent the restaraunt generally. It is a vietnamese-cuisine turned asian-cuisine "hole in the wall" run by a sweet korean woman. The serving size is good, but it is expensive to other pho places I have been to. But sometimes, I'm okay with spending $7 on a good bowl of pho, y'know?

Bamboo Song is an old spot my friends and I used to go to a lot when we were in high school. We used to come here so often that the waitress knew our "usual" [orders]. One time, we turned to Bamboo Song to help us with a winter-time fundraiser for a school organization and they were VERY helpful. Pho is so much cheaper WHOLE SALE.

I've never ordered anything else but the pho and Vietnamese crepes. Though I typically order the boring #2 (rare steak pho) I find myself coming back for my monthly fix and I always bring new people to share my knowledge of the deliciousness that is  Bamboo Song's pho!

Hit it up, it's better than its competitors Pho Hana and Hanmi Pho.

I ate at Bamboo Song about once a week while I was in high school. It's a great place to meet up with friends for a study break from the library and its location in downtown Palos Verdes couldn't be better. There is ALWAYS ample parking, which wasn't a big deal when I lived in PV but has become something of a serious issue after I moved to Westwood.

Their service is fast and they can accommodate large parties.

There's not many places to get pho in PV (only other spot I know of is Pho Hana).  The pho is solid (I get chicken), but I do have some complaints.  The Large vs. XL pho has the same amount of broth, just more noodles.  Let's just say I stick with the Large from now on.  Also, I've tried the Sumi Salad and Bamboo Song Salad and really didn't like them.  The Spring Rolls are okay though.  Side note -- I've heard that the Bamboo Song in Torrance is better.

This Place and i go back far into my High school Days. I remember going here after school, or after a nice cold day at the beach. The portions here were good, and the owner is always friendly. This is one of two Pho places in P.V. and i would say i like this one better than the other.

Besides Pho they also offer other dishes such as Korean BBQ, some rice dishes and Sushi. The Spicy Pork is really good as is the Spicy Tuna Roll.

I would  recommend this place to someone in the mood for Pho in this area, though the Pho isn't as good as i've had and the prices recently went up as well.

My mom introduced me to this place when we moved to the Peninsula. She knows the Ah-Joom-ma owner, and it's a place that I frequent and have grown to love because of its ultra-casual vibe, and excellent Vietnamese noodles. They also offer popular Korean staples and sushi rolls.

The restaurant space is quaint and small with an askewed high ceiling. The brightly lit menus are posted on two sides of the walls, so vision-impaired guests should not have a problem perusing the menu. They do give you laminated menus, too.

I like the Pho, but my favorite is the dry rice-vermicelli dish that is topped with seasoned and sauteed shrimp, raw yellow bean sprouts, iceberg lettuce, and half-cup portion of a cold, sweet and sour broth that you pour over the noodles (#17 on the menu). It's a refreshing summer dish, but I like it year-round. The Vietnamese cook will most often deliver your order tableside, so any doubts on authenticity will be debunked.

Their Baked Salmon roll tastes good and is bigger than the rolls you'd find elsewhere. The price for the noodle dishes are VERY decent, and the rolls are reasonable, too ($9-11 range). The quality of sushi is average to good.

I guess you could call this place a "hole-in-the-wall," at least it's about as hole-in-the-wall-ish as you can get in the PV area. I work across the street so have had myriad opportunity to get lunch from here.

Their food is more hit than miss -- I'd suggest sticking to the Vietnamese dishes, as their teriyaki et al are average at best. Their pho is cheap, ample, and filling, if falling just shy of their competition up the street, Pho Hana. This is the only place in the area to get bibimbap, which is excellent. Be warned if you decide to do bibimbap to go, you'll get a huge bag of fixins and need to take up half your office's conference table to eat.

Note that they are CLOSED ON WEDNESDAYS. For some reason I make this mistake repeatedly.

edit: No longer closed on Wednesdays, they are now open 7 days a week.

I knew it, I knew it! I should not have gone to Bamboo Song; I should have listened to the reviews and not go for the Pho here.

After my Dr's appointment I wondered towards this place.
I was looking for a ramen place in Torrance area, Crenshaw and PV Blvd corner? but could not locate it, this was my second choice but no regrets I tell myself, it's the experience, man, right? (My logical side is kicking my head in as I type this..., so, answer is no? Leave me alone.)

The beef Pho tasted very artificial with an unpleasant after taste. I had to fast this morning for the Dr's appointment so I was mui/ tremendously/ very famished, very hungry, but I couldn't finish it.
With the Hoisin and hot sauces the taste was made worse, they didn't get along with soup.
On the plus side the vegetables were fresh and the noodles were ok. The beef was average and wasn't bad but not memorable either.

      The service was polite.

Disclaimer (Fine print):  This review is for the Pho Tai only.
They don't appear to specialize in Pho but they have tons of other menu items to lure you in, this place is a jack of all trades looks like. The tempura looked really good and well presented and volumous for example (A customer across the floor was eating it and looked good). What's keeping a lot of folks away may be the prices they charge compared to other place's.

Living in PV severely limits your options of things to do and places to go. So finding a place like Bamboo Song is always a pleasant surprise. And as restaurants in PV go, this one is pretty awesome.

My absolutely favorite dish is the pork/egg roll vermicelli coupled with a refreshing mocha boba (and if mocha isn't your thing, they have tons of other flavors to choose from). I've only had the sushi here a couple of times, but on both occasions the stand out dishes were the spicy tuna and california rolls.

In addition to the tasty food, the staff here is always super nice and I've never had a problem scoring a table. The ambiance here is inviting, very low key,  and definitely facilitates conversation. Plus there's ample parking. I mean really, what more could you ask for in a restaurant?

Vietnamese Pho, Japanese Rolls and Korean BBQ--all in one place! Score!

I'm not sure how they do it, but this place was very decent in all areas, for having the combination of food they offer. I wasn't sure I was going to like all the different ethnic flavors when put together, but Bamboo Song did not disappoint.

I had pho, california/salmon rolls and dumplings. The pho had a flavor that you only get when you make it at home (and I can't). The california/salmon rolls, while not breaking the bank at a higher class place, were very decent. The dumplings were very tasty.

Go here if you have trouble making decisions--you'll be sure to find something to satisfy any appetite as soon as you look at the menu.

Cash, Visa and MC only. No Amex.

Back in the day when I used to live in R.P.V (a year ago), I would eat there about once a week.  I was in love with the soups with the fresh vegetables like sprouts, onions and spicy sauce on the side!  Not to mention the dumplings and fried rice were "bomb" as my boyfriend says and I double that for sure.  The portions were huge and the price was sooo good.  I did have some sushi and just didn't like it because of personal reasons... (I'm not a fan of salmon and don't know why I ordered it).  I can say it looked really good in the picture though!  Which brings me to the amazing picture menu they have!!!!

They also have numerous other items on the menu, like the bbq stuff which is good, too.

Too bad they don't have rolls at Bamboo Song #2, because I'm closer to that one.

Anyway, the place is pretty clean and most of the food on the menu is good.

This seems to be the only restaurant with pho offerings of any sort around PV and for what it is, it isn't half bad, but if you've had pho, then you know you've had better.

What is bewildering is the assortment of Asian cuisine they have here. Sushi rolls, Korean food, teriyaki, in addition to pho. Call me dull, but if I go to a pho place, I want to see authenticity and proof that the place deals strictly with all things Vietnamese food. Having offerings of sushi and Korean food makes me think twice...BUT, again, I might be being harsh here.

The vegetarian rolls are great here, the pho satisfies when you're having a pho craving, and the prices make for an inexpensive meal.

I was having a hard time deciding whether to give this place a 3 or 4. I used to come here alllll the time in high school because it was the better pho place and it was close to the library, making it the perfect place to refeul our brains. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed when I went back yesterday. I think they changed the recipe for their noodles. It tasted a bit sweeter and a bit more nutty. Maybe they added coconut? I don't know what exactly it was they did, but all I know is, I don't like it. I mean, it doesn't taste bad, it's just not what I expected of Bamboo Song. I also had the spring roll here and it was so bland. It was one of those foods that looked a whole lot better than it tasted.
It's hard to say whether I'll be coming back here or not. Even though this place was the better pho place, it wasn't thaaat much better. I might come back here with friends for old times' sake but until then it stays a pretty solid 3.

i was a little disappointed after coming here. their menu does NOT look like their actual food. their bibimap & sushi are pretty decent. but don't order their salad or teriyaki chicken. the salad was unappealing, something like a store-bought dressing and the chicken was charred and the sauce was too sweet. their morisoba was mediocre, but the amount they give you is HUGE!

this restaurant is located by the palos verdes library on deep valley drive of rolling hills estates (right by the avenue). they have take-out & do catering.

    edit//
they changed their menu! they added & took out a few items, but their prices went up!!!

but i fell in love with their baked salmon roll ($8.95 for 8)! my usual favorite is Fusion Sushi down at Torrance, but i found that Bamboo Song has even better sushi! and saves me the trouble of driving down the hill to get decent sushi!

    today, we ordered:
the baked salmon roll simply melts in your mouth! the crab, cucumber, & avocado comes in a generous amount (not like other japanese restaurants that give a tiny amount of filling & a huge block of dry, overcooked rice). the filling was sweet (sweeter than any other sushi i had), fresh, and tasty. the salmon was baked perfectly and drizzled with a cheesy, mayo dressing that is so addicting!

the chicken bibimbap ($8.95): sooooo delicious! their spicy red hot sauce adds the special "kick" to every bite! it came as a generous portion of bean sprouts, dark greens, seaweed, shredded carrots, cooked zuchinni, bamboo shoots (which i didn't enjoy.. bitter taste & too ripe), a sunny side up pan-fried egg & chicken (which i didn't care for.. there was nothing special about it, it isn't worth the extra $1 for a small serving of average chicken tiblits.. go for the vegetable bibimbap - $7.95). whenever i get a bibimbap craving, i would go to cho dang tofu, but now, i favor bamboo song's bimbimbap over cho dang tofu's!

the california roll ($4.95 for 8) was decent, but nothing extraordinarily memorable. the crab mixture tends to be sweeter than most other california rolls in other japanese restaurants, but that's why i prefer theirs!

their salad was too simple & bland.. no wonder why it's free..
their soup was a hot broth w/ green onions.. very comforting.. a great way to warm up on a cold night!

they have added a new section on their menu called the "bento special" which comes with salad, 4 pcs Cali rolls, rice, mixed tempura & soup. they have chicken teriyaki or katsu for $11.50 or beef/salmon teriyaki for $11.95. they took out their sandwich section.. i don't know if that means they don't sell them anymore or they just forgot to put in on their menu?

i find it ridiculous that they charge their pink lady roll & love roll for $11.95 because it DOESN'T have rice? it doesn't make sense.. shouldn't they charge less?

i have yet to try their saigon special (small: $6.25, large: $6.75, xlarge:$7.25), spring/egg rolls ($5.25-5.50), spicy volcano roll ($11.50), baked lobster roll ($9.95), shrimp & beef w/ vegetable on rice ($7.95), and their bamboo song fried rice w/ beef, chicken & shrimp ($8.50)!

menu items range from: soups w/ different choices such as steak, brisket, flank, beef ball, rice noodles, chicken, tendon, shrimp, chicken, wonton, or plain, vermicelli, salads, crepes, egg/spring rolls, steamed/fried dumpling, sushi rolls, udon, morisoba, combinations, rice dishes, bowls, sashimi bowls, house special glass noodles w/ meat, tempura, bento specials, teriyaki, barbeque, katsu, steak, bibimbap, bobas, drinks, & they also have party platters!

    business hours:
    mon-sat: 10:30 am - 9:00 pm
    sunday: 12:00 pm - 9:00 pm
&as one of the yelpers informed (read other review), they're closed on wednesdays.

overall, their food is delicious, just be careful what to order. try to avoid the "chicken" related dishes.. everytime, i was disappointed. you can't go wrong with their sushi rolls (baked salmon roll! california rolls! volcano roll!) and their bibimbap is sooooo good. their salads are mediocre, but their complimentary salads are not even worth it (even though it's free!). i have yet to try their other dishes.. but the main reason for the missing one star is their prices!! i thought it was expensive in the beginning, and now that they raised it, it's ridiculous.

Better Korean run pho in RPV. The second time was much better than my first visit. The first visit seemed like they use a lot of MSG but this time was better. Little salty but good flavor. My friend ordered regular beef pho and I ordered seafood. They both had distinct flavors for each soup. We ordered a spider roll with it. It was pretty decent. The rice was little mushy but tempura shrimp inside the roll was freshly fried.

There are two Pho spots on the hill, and they both are about the same. This one is more Japanese influenced as far as the other items on the menu go. Their pho is average, their service is average, their prices are average. I guess you can go as far as to say that it is an average experience. 2.5stars please!

Cheap prices for decent pho, I am a fan!

I came here w/ a friend and bf after not getting enough to eat at Joey's BBQ in Torrance. My friend and bf got the basic pho (sry, I can't recall what it was). I got a side of SPRING ROLLS.

FOOD: Cheap eats! The pho broth was flavorful and they were not stingy w/ the bean sprouts nor the basil. They had 3 sauces available (spicy & non-spicy). The spring rolls were okay as I could mainly taste the noodles even though there were 3 shrimps and some chicken. Good peanut dipping sauce though.

LOCATION: Small parking lot with lots of other shops around it. Restaurant was on the smaller side, but not cramped. It was clean.

SERVICE: Lady was nice and ready to take our order 2 mins after we got the menu so I felt a little rushed.

I would most definately come back here to get me some pho. Full belly for a decent price, I like.

Picked up lunch here yesterday. Very friendly staff. Decent prices. The only negative is that when you leave you smell like the place for the rest of the day.

Bamboo song is something of an anomaly. A mish mash of Japanese, and Vietnamese offerings are what you'll find here. The sushi rolls are on the low side of O.K. That being said  don't let that deter you from visiting one of the two locations. Bamboo song makes the best Pho I've ever had hands down! The noodles are fresh as is the basil and bean sprouts serve as condiments for this bowl of steaming love. The pho I've had around the city usually has a very distinct beef or chicken brothiness to them. Bamboo songs pho broth is much more than that. I haven't quite yet cracked the code on exactly what it is that makes it so amazingly wonderful but suffice it to say that they have created something in their broth that elevates it way above all others that I've had. I literally get crazy cravings for this stuff and nothing else will do.  I'll end up doing the 45 minuet drive from San Pedro to get my fix. This stuff is taste bud crack!!

I loved the pho here SO MUCH! I recommend their crepes cuz it's quite unique and made in Vietnamese style. Not many places have the crepe so you should definitely try it. They also have a very clean tasting soup with no oil floating on it so if you are watching out for your weight, it's a little bit better than other places. pretty good service.
