I dine with my family at Bamboo at the Bedford and Westford location. We enjoy the atmosphere and customer service has improved since we started dinning at this chain in 08.
They have nice selection of sushi and their desserts are wonderful. My favorite dessert is green tea ice cream. I love their tiramisu. I believe the food quality at Bamboo is a little better than Feng Shui in my opinion, although the latter is a bit cheaper, they are both more than adequate for the hungry corporate employee.
If you decide to sample their lunch buffets, arrive early because Bamboo quickly fills. I love their beef and broccoli, crispy beef with sesame, and Kung Pao Shrimp with peanuts. -

I was pretty impressed with this place. I was skeptical at first because based on the atmosphere it seemed to be trying pretty hard to be westernized.
We had ordered the scallion pancake and the sushi love boat for the four of us. The pancake was a bit doughy and crispy at the same time. It thought it was great - a tad on the greasy side but it is a scallion pancake after all.
The sushi love boat is huge and it definitely enough for four people. There's a mix of sashimi, sushi rolls and seaweed salad all of which tasted fresh and were really good.
Service was attentive and prompt. -

I have been here a number of times, due to the proximity to my office.
Its Chinese/Japanese, which feels very right and very wrong at the same time. But most sushi joints are Chinese-owned anyway, so if you're not too much of a sushi snob, you can look past it.
On that note, the Chinese food is GREAT. I'm not a regular Chinese food eater but appreciate it when done well. Not too greasy, fatty, or MSG-ey.
As for the sushi, its just as good as almost anywhere. **I must note that I'm really spicy tuna focused, and judge all Japanese restaurants solely on the basis of their spicy tuna. But I have tried the other stuff, and as far as I can tell, its as good as anywhere else. For you spicy tuna fiends: its chopped here, with avacado, no cucumber, (filler!) and some tempura stuff at the bottom...Mmmm. If only their spicy sauce was spicier, this would be my #1.
I've been to the buffet at lunch and you can make it well worth the $12ish dollars if you're interested in eating more than you should or are just a sushi fiend like me. Just note that there are other fiends around and you basically have to go all primitive and rude and shit if you want to get any good stuff. -

I am a frequent eater at this restaurant. The food is delicious however expensive, the Sunday buffet is always fresh. The portions have gotten smaller over the years which is annoying. I recommend the Japanese cuisine over the Chinese cuisine because I just do not think the Chinese food is worth the price. The service is excellent. I recommend sitting at the Sushi bar because you receive a sample of a new dish and an orange at the end, and who doesn't enjoy a great show!

Lowell, MA
My friend and I went here for a pre-birthday dinner on a weekday. Don't be fooled by the exterior, it's actually quite nice inside. The food is good, but a little pricey (compared to other restaurants offering the same fare).
Food:
-Red Sox Roll, I must say that this was the best signature sushi order I've had in a long time. I normally don't like raw slices of salmon covering more than half my sushi, but it was pleasantly surprising how it turned out. It didn't have that "fishy" aftertaste, and it was creative how they used mango in the rolls.
-Philadelphia Roll, I wasn't as impressed with this dish as I thought I would be. It had more cream cheese than I'm used to. It might work for others though.
-Crispy Sesame Beef, I really liked this signature dish. It was the right texture for a crispy beef dish (not too crispy, and not soggy from sauce). The beef was juicy and sweet, and there was a good portion.
-Tropical Chicken, I would have to say I'm a little disappointed in the chicken. The chicken was a little flavorless. It was drenched in this light sweet pineapple/pepper mix. I felt like they couldn't decide between making it spice based or sweet/vegetable based.
-House Tea, It reminds me of black grass jelly drink. Smooth and sweet smelling.
Atmosphere:
-It's actually pretty classy inside (and clean too). We were seated in the middle of the restaurant in front of the sushi bar, so it was lively but not distracting. Very culturally decorated with appropriate ambient music.
Staff:
-We were greeted by a hostess who sat us down near the sushi bar and kitchen. For the most part, everyone was sociable and there were no grumpy faces to be had. Our server was a little overattentive for my taste - but I guess that's part of finer dining.
Final Thoughts:
-We'll have to come back for the buffet. I really enjoyed the eating experience, and would love to come by again with some friends. Location is a bit out of no-where though. -

Jeff the manager at Bamboo Gourmet personally oversaw our rehearsal dinner. I kept calling him to make sure that everything was set, that I did have a private event room booked, that the menu was good, that my gluten-free friends could still eat it...
I was worried that I wouldn't get an authentic Chinese banquet, but after eating there, I thought the food was excellent and very close to a perfect banquet....and I'm asian so you know I have pretty high standards. The meat was all very tender and well flavored, the rice was not greasy and the vegetables were delicious. They also gave a lot of freshly cut fruit - cantaloupe, pineapple, honeydew for dessert at the end.
Menu: cha siu (bbq pork), crab rangoons, steamed chicken, shrimp, longevity noodles, house fried rice (everyone loved this), pipa stems (people really loved this one), beef with scallops, and a few other dishes that I can't remember since there were so many items.
Jeff was very willing to work with my budget too, I gave him a figure of $24 per person, and what dishes I liked, and he was able to come up with a menu on the spot. He did a chinese banquet the previous weekend and told me their menu. They do charge a 19% gratuity and tax, but it was worth it. The one snag that night was that it took a while for the second course to come out but Jeff kept coming to check on us to assure us that it would be there quickly. -

I work nearby and I'm so thankful that this place is here!! For work days that extend well into dinnertime, I love their take-out. I've tried their Buddha's delight (lightly steamed vegetables with all sauces on the side) and their vegetable fried rice. Both were really good!
I've also been here multiple times for team get-togethers and lunch with coworkers. (Always call ahead to reserve for a group. Lunch and dinner both can get very busy.) We always do the lunch buffet, which is pretty delicious, even for a vegetarian (sometimes pescaterian) like me. The service is usually very fast and friendly. -

I don't know what I was expecting when we ordered the Bamboo Green for two, but my face lit up like Christmas when it arrived at our table. Bamboo Green = sushi-boat-bliss! BLISSSSS!! It had everything from a starter California roll to octopus sashimi. (In between were tuna, yellow tail, striped bass, shrimp, eel, crab, salmon, whitefish, octopus sashimi, sushi and sushi rolls....) Truly exemplary.
Bamboo of Westford, you and I are going to be very, very good friends. -

This is a review for their Buffet ---
I've been going here for the buffet since the place opened. It's a very small selection, but what you get is absolute quality. You won't want anything else but what you see available. I shouldn't call it a buffet.... it's more like a family style dinner. Everyone grab a plate and mix and match what you want!
They have a small selection of dim sum dumplings, pretty good. Their chinese/american fare is top notch (gaus and goons, wings, peking raviolis). I'm very partial to the stuffed clams, which is basically Hottate Hokaiyaki on a shell. superb.
It's typical chinese-american food, but its excellent all around. You won't be disappointed. If you want authentic chinese food, then why are you coming for a buffet?
The sushi buffet is just one of those boats, but it is very good, very fresh sushi. I've never had a problem with their rolls falling apart, and their ingredients never are stale, smelly, or slimy. KEY things to pay attention to with sushi, especially at a buffet line.
Desserts are more limited then their offerings, but the green tea ice cream is awesome, I always get it.
One thing to note about this place ---- the waitresses suck. Okay that's probably mean, but I've seen the same ones for years now and they HATE me (probably because they're not making any money off of me).
You'd think after seeing me come in so many times they'd recognize you.. ............ NOPE. -

I'm giving them a perfect score for my recent experience with their New Year's Eve takeout service. A friend of mine has a family restaurant business, and upon hearing that I will once again be working a very long day on 12/31 and would need to do take out for dinner from my favorite area Chinese restaurant, suggested that I call at least a week in advance to place my order. I'm so glad I did, because upon arriving, I was directed to the take out line, gave the lady my name and number, and out came my order all packaged up. (The foyer of the restaurant was notably set up very well for the masses to wait around.) I signed the receipt and home I went.
I had ordered enough food for six: a large sushi and sashimi tray (delightfully presented in a take out platter and fresh), crispy sesame beef (delicious), chicken and broccoli (the chicken was oh so tender), 3 orders of pan fried chinese ravioli (this is 18 two-inch pieces of dumplings folks and so perfectly pan fried, they were nearly all consumed), vegetable lo mein, fried rice, and boneless spare ribs.
Because I learned to be more organized this year and placed my order in advance, Bamboo reciprocated with the excellent, wonderfully organized take out service. That surely made ringing in the New Year more fun.1 Previous Review: Show all »

If consider it's location, I perhaps should give it a 5 star. I mean, it's liter rally located in middle of nowhere...
I only tried their sushi, not too fancy, but the fish and roll quality is quite good. However, it's not cheap, even with my silicon valley standard... -

Worse Mai Tai anywhere. Tastes just like cheap whiskey, I don't know how they do it, tried in 2 different times, 1 year apart. Bartender no personality at all, why not hire someone who smiles and is friendly. Food is standard chinese fare, buffet is ok - average. Stopped at another Chinese bar down the street, bar was packed. Went to the Bamboo on a saturday night, no one at the bar, that should tell you something. $7.50 for a regular mixed drink.

For me, this is one of the better americanized chinese food options in the vicinity, although they have sushi too.
Perhaps a little pricey, but overall, the food seems fresh testing and quality. The buffet is pretty popular too. Their hot and sour soup is pink, which unfortunately is not my style.
Good for take out, or a pretty atmosphere in which to enjoy eating there. -

Two and a half stars, not three. We went here this past Saturday for dinner with friends. We ordered Chicken Wings, Chicken Skewers, Pad Thai, Idaho Maki, Spicy Beef, and Chicken Sukiyaki.
Out of all of these, the Pad Thai and Spicy Beef were the best. I ordered the Idaho Maki b/c there was no fish in it (I'm allergic); the main ingredient was sweet potato. I was hoping it would be similar to some fusion sushi we ordered at Yama in West Lebanon, NH, but it came no where near.
The skewers and chicken wings were the usual, but one word of caution: the wings are served with a sweet sauce, as well as HOT mustard, not honey mustard. Our poor kids found out the hard way. :)
Unfortunately, the sukiyaki was the biggest disappointment. My husband tried really hard to like it, but he said there was no flavor whatsoever. To make things worse, it was the most expensive dish we ordered ($17.50!!) Never again.
I think we'd give Bamboo another shot, especially maybe going when the buffet is available. Maybe we picked the wrong dishes. But I wasn't wowed. -

I agree with Bill O., Bamboo is the best Chinese/Asian restaurant in the area which isn't a ringing endorsement. Anyways, the Lychee martini must be their signature drink because it seemed very popular. I ordered one and it was sweet and smooth.
I ordered their pan friend scallops which was fresh and seasoned just the way I like it. I also had the "Sushi Delight" which was good but not great. However, I like the decor, it's clean and modern. The restrooms are clean. That how you can tell it's an upscale Chinese Restaurant! -

Everything I've tried here is good. I think their Chinese food is what they do best, as I've had better Japanese food.
Service is normally good, the bar is pretty nice, and parking is normally not a problem.
Only negative I can think of is the price. Certainly the most expensive Chinese food in the area.
It's the best in Westford, but you'll have to pay a little bit more for it. -
Review from Bob S.

There was no real "wow" factor to this place, but it's definitely one of the best options in the immediate area. It shares a parking lot with the Residence Inn so it's really convenient for guests there.
I had sushi here and wasn't really impressed. The nigiri was pretty good, but the seaweed wrap for the maki wasn't all that fresh. Even if the fish is good, stale seaweed can ruin a roll for me.
The service was quick, but a little curt. I think the guy serving me may have been an owner and/or manager because he seemed more concerned with handling receipts than with customer service.
Overall, it's a great place if you're in the area, but it's definitely not a destination. -

This place has lost quite a bit of it's luster from a couple of years ago. Food is average at best. We ate there tonight and they're just not maintaining their food quality. The vegetarian delight side dish smelled like sweaty gym socks. I really want them to be on their game but their not. Service was o.k. tonight but recent visits have been sloooow, despite empty tables around us. It used to be high on my list, but now it's almost fallen off the list.

Great service, spacious place, always busy.
Sunday evening buffet is also excellent with very fresh food; many times buffets can go horribly astray.
Always sit at the sushi bar, try the special Umi Maki and the Hamachi can't be beat (personal favorite). The chefs are friendly and it's great to watch their technique close up.
Some of the best sushi outside of Boston and for the area, the best Asian cuisine around. -

LOVE Bamboo and have since day one. I think the best part, aside from the large array of choices, is that I've never felt sick from their food.
They offer traditional food associated w/ Chinese restaurants (crab ragoon, beef teriyaki), as well as some lower fat and unique dishes. Also think the sushi is fabulous.
It is pricier (hence the 4/5 stars), but wouldn't you rather cough up a few more dollars than spend the night feeling dehydrated and bloated?
Check it out! -
Review from Chad T.
Bamboo is great because when you want to go out to a nice dinner with colleagues after work there's something for everyone. Great teriyaki and sushi if you're into Japanese, and a full Chinese menu for people who aren't into sushi. The rolls are generous, and better priced relative to the nigiri I think. There's a decent sake selection, but no beers on tap. All beers are bottled (except for Sapporo, which is in a can).
Haven't been here for lunch, but this is definitely my go-to place in Westford when I'm visiting and want to eat healthy. -

Interesting today that you can review an Asian restaurant that serves both Japanese and Chinese quisine. Times sure are a changing. Guess it makes sense though yet we tend to stick to one type versus a mix and match when we order.
Maguro Awasi (excuse spelling or poor memory) but a flavorful appetizer of chopped tuna, Japanese herbs and tropical flavors. Reminds me of Chops version (Naples FL) of their Chops special yellow fin tuna in conconut and avocado and all sorts of tropical flavors too. Order the Maguro. All other selections for my family tend to be the typical for a suburban family with only me being the adventurous. So you will find the crab, psuedo crab, veggie, spicey tuna, Daiseke, etc. etc. All very good. Oh Niguro is awesome.
Chinese is far above average with strong flavors and less sugar type dishes using more citrus and herbs. The heat dishes are right there and offering good bite. Again we order the same olds and have to get off the left page.
I'm a Chinese to go person, as I like a good bottle of wine when I go out and well I just have never been to an Asian restaurnat that offers a good wine selection so suffice it to say.....call it in.
Really enjoy getting there and watching the one man bartender work the customers and the waitstaff. A man of action, gestures, fast slick, accurate, a smoother than a Swiss watch. A work of art..........Mai Tai! I dont' drink them but love watching it served. He must make 500 a night. Damn fast.....Damn fast! Martinis sort of good....watch the Vermouth dude. Burlington spot makes a great Martini.
I read one review on worms in the tuna... I'm an angler/captain and caught over 250 tuna in the waters off Chatham....filleted 90% of them. Never seen one of these worms.
I think the law states that all tuna must first be frozen so I would like to know what to look for. Sure as hell seen them in most swordfish. Those are not arteries folks.
So give it a try .....off 495 on 225 and 20 minutes from Concord too. -

I've been to Bamboo for a number of years.
The restaurant is a mix of the more popular Asian cuisines, hence the name. You'll find a wide variety of Chinese dishes, along with a good selection of sushi, udon, and other Japanese treats. There's also a smattering of Thai.
Most of that time, I came for the lunch buffet, something that provides tasty food for a good price. It's always nice to see dishes not covered in the "brown sauce" that you get at lower quality places. In addition to sushi rolls, dumplings and the like, you also can sample a wide selection of fish, chichen, beef, and pork entries. Also present, you'll find vegetarian samplings as well. Deserts are offered--the light style of Japanese pastry--along side ginger and green tea ice creams.
However, if you have a chance to meet the owner Jeff (obviously not his given name), he will more than certainly fix you up. As commented by Warren W., if you like sushi, definitely ask for Jeff's specials. He will steer your way some off-menu items that are stunning. The kobe beef roll was absolutely delicious, and understandably expensive. (6 pieces for $30) Definitely worth it though. The yellow tail in chili and citrus packed a flavor explosion that had all of us at the table raving. Rounding out the specials with other fare has always resulted in smiles all around.
One other interesting find: I like pad thai. I enjoy seeing how many different ways it's prepared. Now, I have my opinions about the dish--flat noodles over thin noodles--but I'm always open for someone else's opinion. Bamboo's pad thai does use the thin noodles _but_ what a terrific sauce. Most sauces you encounter are more of a suggestion than an application, only serving to sticky up the noodles a bit. Here, the sauce's rich flavor really complements the dish. Just shrimp, but still, the sauce is the star of that dish. Highly recommended!
You'll find it a bit difficult to understand the staff, but they do get your orders right. If you want to ask questions, talk to Jeff ;-)
I give it 5 for the food--which is why I go out rather than make it myself. -

There are a plethora of Chinese options in the towns surrounding Westford. What makes Bamboo unique is that their food actually tastes excellent. The quality control is high, so you can also expect a great meal. Service is average, but I mostly come here for the lunch buffet, which has all the classic American-Chinese dishes I've grown up on. My favorite dish to order is the pan fried noodles. The sauce is perfect, and the noodles vary from crispy, chewy, to tender. It's a scintillating taste sensation. I'll leave the reviewing of Japanese food for other more experienced Yelpers.
Bamboo is about 10 minutes from my parents house, so it's easy to justify coming here. I would surely travel a little further, because it is really worth a special trip. -
Review from Bryan R.
Not a bad place to go for lunch. The buffet was decent and they had ginger soda. Service was friendly. I'd give it 4 stars if the sushi was edible.
I say "if" because my first round of sushi had rather noticeable parasitic worms. Sure, they're probably dead from the flash freeze but even those can make you sick.
There are certain things that just aren't worth the risk to me. It's a nice enough place but I can't go back to Bamboo. -
Review from Marcy K.
My husband is camping this weekend, so what could be better than ordering takeout from a really good local Chinese restaurant? I didn't have to order anything extra spicy, with the little star next to the selection, which is what Mr. K likes to do. I ordered what "I" wanted this time. No big chunks of hot red peppers for me.
My meal was chicken with cashews and an appetizer of scallion pancakes. When I brought my goodies home, I noticed that they included a complimentary container of shitake potato soup with the following ingredients listed: bacon, string beans, and crispy rice. Ironically, there is no mention of shitake mushrooms or potatoes. I didn't try the soup, but maybe I'll have it for lunch. Just wondering how rice can stay crispy if it's in liquid. But where was the rice for my chicken dish??? Guess that costs extra.
After eating my takeout for 15 minutes, I packed everything up for the refrigerator. I swear it doesn't look like I ate ANYTHING. The chicken dish was still up to the top of the container, and there were four pancakes as well as the soup left for at least another meal or two. This was a magic meal that seemed to regenerate itself. Wish money could do that, too.
We've eaten at this establishment several times, and the meals are consistently good (we generally get the buffet). On previous visits, my husband has enjoyed the sushi selection. The only annoyance is that the waiters hover a bit too much, and tea isn't included with the meal. Somehow, I don't understand what the big deal is about boiling water and then throwing in a teabag. Four stars. -

Used to go here quite often when it first opened (~2003/2004), but I think the quality has gone down a bit since they've added multiple locations. The staff that have been there for several years are great, but beware if you happen to get one of the newbie waiters.
The moo-shi is good (order it spicy). Mermaid & Salt & Pepper shrimp also tasty. The Sea Bass was good. Dinner buffet is a little overpriced, but the quality is way better than China Buffet (Lowell).
The hot mustard is sometimes so spicy it may cause you to see God. -

Bamboo has been our go-to place for Chinese since it opened. The last few visits have been a huge disappointment both in terms of service and food quality. Our favorite dishes were lacking any distinct flavors, the vegetables weren't fresh, etc. I hope they can get it together and bring back the quality of years past. If not, we'll be looking to Yelpers for a reccomendation.

This place is a good place to go for Chinese and Sushi. The food is all good. The is a little better than good. Negatives are that it takes too long for service sometimes. Also there is no draft beer. Only bottled. Even though the wait is not usually bad even on Friday nights, the staff needs to be more helpful to those that are waiting. The back bar should be serviced but it is not. The fortune cookies are chocolate. Taste terrible and have fortunes that are just disappointing. Also I have to ask for chop sticks every time I go there. Really? I should have to ask for a fork. Not sure what the butter knife would ever be used for here, but they have one for each setting on the table. Even so all the little quirky things this is still currently my favorite place to get sushi.

I have had at least two birthdays here. The sushi is top-notch, with a very impressive menu. Sushi boats are known to ply these waters. The takeout is phenomenal, but if you get the idaho maki or anything tempura, the usual caveats apply (tempura + plastic takeout container = soggy). The lunch buffet is great, with a lot of fantastic selections. Overall, this pan-asian gem is must-visit.

Great find (thanks yelpers!) on our roadtrip to Maine. Not one for buffets, this buffet was a fantastic surprise. Not huge, but everything was fresh, and frequently replenished. At $11 PP, not expensive by any means. Lost a star for having to pay another $2 to replenish my drink, and no water offered. Would definitely return to order off the menu.

A little more pricey than other chinese lunch buffets serving similar food. You'll end up pay $15 instead of $10 but the quality that you get will make up for it. Plus you can always make your money back in sushi.
Everything they served here was just a little bit better than other buffets.
If i lived closer I would definitely come here more often. -
Review from Daniel S.

This is a place that's unclear on the concept of labeling foods and dealing with food allergies. Despite explaining to the server that we are vegan (and spelling that out for him), he brought the tofu and spinach soup which clearly contained egg. We've had this soup in many restaurants. It's an all-vegetable soup, never made with egg. The version at Bamboo also was significantly thickened with cornstarch, something that we've never seen before for this soup.
We caught the eye of another server who immediately took the soup away and a while later brought the replacement, made without egg (but still loaded with cornstarch). She took over serving us for the rest of the meal, and appeared to have more clue.
The main course dish we ordered was simply stir-fried bok choy with brown rice on the side. It took quite a while for it to come. It was good, but not exceptional.
A quick look at the buffet when we first arrived confirmed that is not an option for vegetarians or vegans. We'd heard good things about this place, but honestly there are better places to get a nutritious, vegetarian meal. -

OK, when I am coming home late from the airport - I am a sucker for a Shushi Bar, a Martini, and a game on the TV. Just relax after that cattle car we call business travel.
This place is great! Fresh tuna - Salmon - and the Spider Roll is crisp and delish. The 50 inch TV is high def and we can always cheer on the Sox, Celtics or maybe even the Bruins......
Just tell the guy to leave the vermouth in the rack...he has a heavy hand and boy not much customer service, but he can at least make one to order - bruise it and dry.
Shashimi special or for cooked the "happy family" or kung-poa are recommended. If you like standard fare you can try the buffet, but I tend to stay away from the over crowded kid/teenage friendly times and do this place more late night. -

Mongolian Lamb, Pan Fried Chilean Sea Bass, Bamboo Tofu and Basil Treasure were all done well. The sea bass is really good. Location is easy with good parking. The dining room is separated into several sections and is very nice. It can get loud though. Service was good and I've enjoyed their sushi in the past. No real wait on a Wednesday night but the dining room was far from empty. Solid Americanized Chinese fare.

Minus two stars for the terrible service. They couldn't be less interested in your business if you show up at 8 pm or later. They'll whisk your plates away so quick your head will spin. But if you need some quick fresh sushi takeout, this place will do.
