I wonder if Baltimore realizes what a gem this museum is? Absolutely fantatstic collection! I visit the Cone collection on a regular basis - a fantastic collection of impression and post-impression art which inlcudes a huge amount of Matisse! The African section on the first floor is also superb. Go, hang, grab a bite at Gertrude's - it's all good.

Admission is free, and BMA has the world's largest Matisse collection - fun colorful paintings of women, dogs, and beautifully patterned textiles. My favorites are the purple paintings - if your name is Prince, don't miss this. http://www.artbma.org/...
Also check out the ancient mosaics from Antioch. They're surprisingly large and intact, and displayed well in sunny galleries near the courtyard: http://www.artbma.org/...
We enjoyed the African headdresses and masks. Photographs illustrate how the artifacts were worn and used.
But by far the highlight of our BMA visit last weekend: We ran into The Wire's Dominic West! Who knew Jimmy McNulty wore glasses, spoke British, and ate brunch in art museums??! Too awesome.
