today i was watching television and saw a commercial for bally total fitness. i then realized that i had an experience SO terrible at one of their locations that i think i actually blocked it from my memory! it all came back to me, and i hate bally more than ever.
it all started in the spring of 2006. i was recently prohibited from participating in my high school's varsity sports programs because of my knee problems and hence needed a way to get exercise without killing myself. so i was on a quest for a gym membership.
remembering that i had seen an advertisement for bally total fitness, something like $19 to join and $19 a month after that, i decided, "that's reasonable" and went to this particular location to find out how to sign up.
okay. first of all, i dont agree with FITNESS CLUBS hiring FAT, SLOPPY representatives to talk to potential customers about joining. if they really wanted to project an image, i should have been put into a room with some super hot, super toned guy who embodied the concept of fitness. but this was not the case.
throughout my half hour with this idiot, he repeatedly insulted me, (i.e. asking me if i have any children that would be using the day care center, i am OBVIOUSLY a teenager, and definitely dont look like the teenage mom type), couldn't answer any of my questions, didnt hold doors open for me on the tour, didnt make eye contact, mumbled, didnt sound enthused or confident, AND didnt take ANY of the steps that i've learned are necessary in sales (i.e. asking me what i'm looking for, providing a solution to my problem, engaging me in the conversation whatsoever, etc.).
by the time we made it back to his office, i was so pissed off that i just wanted to get out of there. he then proceeded to show me a contract that showed how much i would be paying.... and, no joke, it was something around $800 to join, and $35 a month after that.
but wait, what happened to 19 to join, 19 a month?
oh, well, you see, if you wanted to join for 19, youd have to commit to five years. blah blah blah. also, if you want to be allowed to use our facilities on weekends, it will cost extra to join and monthly. blah blah blah. monday wednesday friday only blah blah blah.
i HATE the way health clubs function. they are so silly with their contracts and conditions and bullshit. all that aside, this guy was just the scum of the earth. i hate bally because of you, you fat douchebag, you suck and so does your company.
thats all !
