The Balkan Market & Coffee Shop leans more towards the former than the latter. It's a small place, with just a couple of tables, and though the owners are friendly and the espresso good, it might be a little awkward to hang out and read or do some work at one table while they sit at the other, chatting in Bosnian and watching soccer. At least that's what I surmise they were speaking, since the market seems to have a relationship with the Bosnian Café Pita across the street - whence comes the lepinja bread and whither goes the traditional ajvar red-pepper spread - whose food I was given a jovial injunction against eating too much of, lest I develop a gut. Lining the walls toward the back of the store, near the counter, you'll find various Balkan and Mediterranean products on offer, from coffees, sodas, dried meats and crackers to that addictively sweet Italian hazelnut spread, Nutella. The coffee bar is simple, just espresso, cappuccino, and the like - no brewed coffee or orange mocha frappuccinos here. If you enjoy Eastern European and Mediterranean flavors and would like to keep some in the cupboard, you'd do well to stop by the Balkan Market & Coffee Shop and let the amiable proprietors point you in the right direction.
