I went here before my wedding and ended up with brassy highlights that were as thick as a dollar bill. They were so awful that I didn't even want to go back to have them fix it so I ended up going to my regular guy to get it fixed. It ended up costing $300 total for my hair! I thought I'd save a few bucks by going there, but that certainly didnt happen. I cant recall the name of the girl who did it, but she was pretty young but said she'd been doing hair forever. I'm sure a lot of the stylists are good, but I wont go back there because since I can't recall her name, I dont want to make an appt and then have her again.

I have been going to Ginn at Baliza Salon for 3 years now...and I am glad to say that I have a "regular" place with a hairdresser that knows my hair, knows my style and listens to my wants and needs. I have been changing my hair color and going more dramatic every time and she barely bats an eyelash at my requests, she just does it!
I even went to see her a few days before my wedding ( A woman's MOST important hair day) and decided I wanted something different when I got home that night. She had me come back in the next day as she knew how important it was for me to look and feel my best and worked on it until I was happy with my new "vision". I have never had a problem with the salon and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a regular place to get your hair done beautifully. I havent tried any other of the many services or other hairdressers at Baliza Salon , but Ginn is great with my hair!
Don't bother. Wish I could remember the chick's name (with the lip piercing)... but her dye job was shitty. It washed out completely after maybe a MONTH. First, she keeps me waiting 20 mins past my appointment time (I understand if maybe other clients took longer than expected, but the rest of her service didn't make up for it AT ALL). Her work was standard, if not POOR, yet I was charged more than I've been at any other salon. Ridicoulously overpriced for the quality of work they do here. This chick should be working at Supercuts.
I just joined yelp today so I could rave about the fabulous haircut Mindy at Baliza Salon and Spa gave me the other day. I've been in need of a cut for a while and Mindy spent a few minutes when she met me to go over my hair and discuss what I wanted to have done and what's best for my face shape an the general health of my hair.
I normally walk in to a salon expecting to pay at least $50 for a haircut, but Baliza is priced more reasonably, which is a definite plus. The salon itself is clean and the staff is friendly (it's like Cheers--where everyone knows your name). I'll definitely be back for my next cut.
I'm a simple kind of gal, I just have natural straight hair with a basic blowdry in the morning. I had kept my hair growing out for some time (in retrospect, bad idea) & recently relocated to the area. I always research new places, and Baliza was close. Plus they have over -50- rave reviews on Yahoo. It was time for a cut!
The shop itself is located in the Lucky's plaza, on the other end by Pizza My Heart. It is shabby chic, notches above Supercuts but not quite "Santana Row" spa-ish. I think paying over $50 for a haircut as simple as what I need (& since I can never replicate the salon the day after anyway) is outrageous. Anyway, I got a basic cut by Mindy for only $36. Sorry, but changing into a robe and getting water doesn't make the $75 worth it. Mindy was also fun to talk to, I felt that the conversation was natural--conversation at trendy places for me tend to be more contrived. Like what C.H. said, no pretentiousness, just lots of haircutting. :)
So yeah, I would recommend this place for basic cuts. I am not so sure about you trendy ones out there though, maybe go to Egomechanix instead. Plus, they use Pureology which smells great. Fairly clean place, a little crowded, but casual. I might try Tony back at Mitri once gain for comparison, since his haircuts tend to have more natural body sans styling.

I joined Yelp for 2 reasons: first of all, because my friend made me, & second of all to give props to Lucy at Baliza Salon.
She's been cutting my hair for...3 years now. I followed her from the Regis salon where she previously worked. Yeah, she's that good!
She's fantastic at cutting/styling long hair. This is important. Long-haired girls (& possibly guys!), you know that paralytic fear of having your hair cut too short/left too long& hence straggly/totally all wrong? do you dig the voluminous Bardot look, with lots of body at the crown, and don't want to make the tradeoff between hair-length vs its being dragged down? Lucy makes it such that I don't have to compromise. She told me that her mother was also a hairstylist and so she's very sensitive to the concerns of people with long hair. I do know that people are always telling me that I have 'shampoo-commercial'/'modelesque' hair. I got offered a small-time advert when I walked around after she cut and did a blowout on my hair. Fact.
The thing is, she doesn't just consider your hair as this separate sentient entity from your face + bod. she takes into account how your hair relates to proportions of your face - which I appreciate as a former design buff. She also does this cute but pragmatic thing where you stand up whilst she initially measures and cuts your hair, and tilts your head at different angles, so that she can see how it will fall in real life (as opposed to one particular pose).
For reference, I've longish hair cut into face-framing layers - and she knows where to place to layers to work with a. where I part my hair and b. my face-shape, so the layers don't make my face look too long or weird or anything. One time it wasn't quite right and she recut it perfectly. she's also really really nice. forgiving if you come in half-dozed and are not inclined to chattiness (as I usually am when I come for a haircut. I don't know. every time I come in, I'm usually tired for various reasons) -- there's no pressure to hold up a convo on Britney's latest antics or dissect your latest relationship, etc. I thought it worth mentioning.
Lucy herself has short hair, so I daresay her talent extends to all lengths. I can't vouch for Baliza's other services cos "wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darueber muss man schweigen" as a rather constant companion of mine might say, but yeah. Lucy is awesome, and I realize I am compromising my calendar by singing her praises all over yelp, but... she deserves the business!

Great place for a haircut. A bit pricey, but so are all haircuts nowadays. Plus, everyone is very friendly there!
EDIT: Don't come here. They clearly don't know what they're doing anymore. 2 failed haircuts = new lower Yelp score.

I havent tried Isabel or Jennifer, wanted to but need a cut badly. I ended up giving myself a some horrible bangs and needed to fix it. A young gal named colleen ended up fixing my bangs and giving me a cut she suggested. She did a awesome job. A little bit pricey but what the hell it's cheaper than most upscale places that do the same job anyway.
My partner and I have been going to Isabel for almost two years and we wouldn't go anywhere else. She got be through the awkward phase of super short hair to long hair-- something that isn't easy!
The first time we went there, we had another stylist who wasn't as good. Don't get your hair cut by anyone but Isabel!
