Review from Katie B.

As a Balian family member, I have a personal love for what my great uncle has done over the years. I never realized how much of an impact it made on the community until the last 10 or so years, as I've gotten older (I'm now 23). I remember being 5 years old and asking my dad why all these people were here. It's great to see just how happy and joyous our family name and lights can make others around Christmastime!
I am proud to be part of a great Altadena/Pasadena family and proud to say that no matter what, Uncle George has made sure the lights are always up. I read a review that the lights were out when she came - that' s a bummer, but things must happen with that many lights. This has been such a point of pride for him (over 50 years and going strong!), and a legacy. -

Finding HOLIDAY LIGHTS for are both of my nephews (1 1/2 and 3 yrs old) they love lights esp around Christmas time, we decide to spend a Friday/sat night to drive around in Dec 2010. I had it all route out and I was destine to help them create a beautiful memory of Christmas Spirit and light show.
During our route, I drove by here, and NO LIGHTS. So I thought it was just early (8pm) and so we moved forward with our route to see other location prior to coming back. We were loving the Christmas Tree Lane in Altadena and park, walked, and drove and park and walk again.. it was very pleasant. As we head back to the Balian House, there was NOTHING, NO LIGHT of any again.. urgggg; what a big fat lie I keep hearing about this location. I was thinking that this maybe our highlight of the night, but boy, we were so wrong...
I don't know if its the 2010 economic downturn that made Balian House keep their lights off, but they should have told the newspaper to take them off the list for 2010 Xmas viewing.. It was a waste of these young kids time; since they normally sleep quite early; I saw many, many families having the same problem...so for the kids sake, I don't like Balian House! U suck! -

Best Christmas light display in the San Gabriel Valley. It gets crowded on weekends and closer to Christmas. Great fun for photographers, here's a photo I took, hand held, but I recommend a tripod. http://www.flickr.com/...

It's a spectacle... but a spectacle worth seeing. See it to believe it.
I come every year and just stand outside with the throng of people and stare at it in disbelief. Apparently, the family has been doing up the house for a long time. Such a thing to do now that there are people selling souvenirs across the street. Good for about 5 minutes of entertainment :)... then go see Christmas Tree Lane in Altadena! -

GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!! My first year going to check out the Balian House and it was just fabulous. The security guard said that they've been putting up the lights for 50 years and he's been with the family for 27. Classic isn't it? He also said that they had started with 10,000 lights and now the 10,000 lights cover just the front walkway alone. It's definitely something to see. Add some gorgeous Christmas light photos to your holiday photos.

This house is AMAZING! My family and i would drive around and look at all the lights in the Hastings Ranch Neighborhood....and then we would stop here and walk around...beautiful...hopefully they are still around when I have my kids, because I want them to have great Christmas memories just as I did! Thank you Balian family!

A holiday tradition for me since I was 10... crazy how fast that time flew!
Try to visit during the week, since traffic is a third of what it can be on weekends. There are soliciting vendors with light swords and glow stick goodies/knick knacks kids may be drawn to, a bit tacky, but avoidable. Park where you can legally, and walk around the front of the home, from side-to-side, tons of gorgeous lights and nativity scene, etc. There isn't much more for me to add on the previous Yelp reviews, but a definite holiday must if you are nearby. I usually visit this one after I've ventured to Hastings Ranch holiday light community of Sierra Madre Blvd. Just for the record, the Brandon and Brenda Walsh Home, along with the Dylan McKay Home from the show "Beverly Hills, 90210" was actually filmed in this area, just a couple minutes away, so if you have the time before nightfall, drive around a bit and see if you can recognize them from the street (Allen, I think?..... NOT positive the name, sorry, but it 's between Lake and New York Dr.)
