I'd like to first comment on the facility itself.  The place was so well designed and clean, i just felt comfortable right away.
Next, the staff were so nice and helpful, well spoken and beautiful that it added to my comfort.
Finally the services I had were the infrared wrap and ahem... another one.
The next day I felt like i was walking on air.  I have slept like a baby every night since and my workouts are yielding better results.
    Thanks Avra

I walked into the front door and was shocked that this could be a spa.  It felt like I walked into a random makeshift store.  It was dark and looked like it was cheaply put together overnight; makeshift dry wall rooms, black curtains covering the ceilings, industrial business carpet in the the "tea lounge" room, black and teal were the predominant colours on the walls, tape holding sheets of paper to block the windows..yes kinda ghetto.  It had a dark and dirty feel; I even saw a roach walk around on the carpet in the tea lounge.  There was no relaxing vibe at all and in a robe, I had to walk out of the spa to used the common bathroom that is shared in this office type building.  I was expecting, lush, plush, locker room with shower/locker facilities and thick cozy robes especially since they charge SPA prices.

I went here for a 3 treatment package:

    1) Infrared sauna:
-this was ok, but was cut short since we had to wait for her to get another robe for us.  It was like sitting in a sauna with little heat lamps around you.  On average, they charge $1/min.  Is it worth it?  NO.

    2) Herbal body wrap:
-reused ace bandages dipped in this herbal tea thing then you are wrapped up like a burrito for 40 minutes.  it's supposed to detox and help slim you a bit...nope don't feel slimmer.

    3) 1 hr Massage
-not bad, but felt really rushed and that she was going through the motions, her hands were a little rough in texture, so it didn't feel good at times when she was giving me a massage.

Overall, wouldn't go back, not worth the cost especially when you thinking you are paying for a spa experience.

So I'm not one of your hippie dippy all vegan all organic all the time San Franciscans. I try and do what I can to be healthy, BUT I have vices. MAJOR ONES. Whiskey and all things tasty can be traumatic on your body. (But oh so AWESOME at the time!)

That's where Avra comes in... SCENE: the heavens sing and the fog parts to reveal AVRA ... "ahhhh"

This place is not only great to detox and undo the damage of those decadent and lushful nights, but it's also a God-sent for just helping to get back in tuned with your body and realigning yourself. (Okay, I may have lied about that hippie part.)

The private saunas are very nice and a great place to sweat out all those harmful toxins, but what I recommend is the colon hydrotherapy. Yes, you heard me right!

Honestly, two weeks ago I was one of those nay-saying skeptics.
~Me, two weeks ago: "Why would I want to mess with my natural rhythm? Especially, when my sh*t works ... Literally." and most importantly "You have to stick what in where?! ... OH HELL NO! [Sassy neck bob and finger shake combo] Not with out a prenup and a ring on my finger!"

It's not as scary as you think actually, especially with Tira. Her soothing tones and comforting demeanor turn this would be awkward interaction into a very healing and cleansing experience. It was like hitting the reset button on my body. Something I didn't realize I needed and now can't imagine living without. It's not like I'm going every week, but now I know it's there for me.

Thank you, Tira and Thank you Avra! I'll be back soon!

My facial was with Lila and she was very gentle, with a soothing voice.  The room was dim, warm and the music playing was not obtrusive.  I don't have a lot of skin issues but I don't look forward to extractions.  The products they used weren't overly scented, and Lila didn't do a hard sell on any of them, so the whole experience was very comforting.

I had lunch with a friend later that day and the facial totally saved me from looking like a drained, dehydrated monster after a long night and no sleep.  The location is not very convenient but I think I would still make the effort to come back for more treatments.

I had a Travelzoo coupon for a massage, sauna and wrap.  The spa is pretty nice although it could be kept in better condition.  It's dark but you can see that things are worn a bit and just not as high end as some places yet the prices are quite high.

All and all this was a great deal for $100 but the sauna was OK not really my favorite thing to do and nothing special about it, and the wrap was a bit weird, I've never had one and probably never will again.  I just don't see the point.

The massage was nice and relaxing but I can't say that it worked out my kinks.  I like deep tissue but you have to know what you're doing to really relax the muscles and work out the knots.  I didn't think this was the greatest massage I ever had in terms of therapy but it was very relaxing still and if you get massages for relaxation this was great.

Everyone is super nice there and very punctual and professional so this place has potential.  They use great products and I like the organic thing, I would try a facial there if they had deals.

    Very nice.

I got a package so I had a massage and herbal body wrap and a personal 30 minute sauna. The personal sauna was the most unexpected surprise for me. Usually I'm like whatevs to saunas but this was so relaxing with the little room, the music and the magazines to read. The cholophyll water was also a nice touch.

Definitely before you go reserach your parking options. There are meters in the area and I think they're the kind you can pay with a credit card and have a 4 hour max. It's right on the edge of touristville so there are plenty of very expensive parking garages and Avra does not validate.

I had my first Colonics here with Lyndell. I was excited and nervous at the same time but my therapist, Lyndell, made it so much easier than I thought. She is very knowledgeable and friendly, I feel like I'm making a new friend!

They also gave me a free 45 minute Infrared Sauna which I think was ok for me. If you really want to lose weight, they said Infrared Sauna is the one of the thing you could do without lifting a finger. Their rate is $1.00/minute I believe.

The overall spa is clean, their hot tea in the waiting room is amazing, and they have amazing staff here. I just wish I'm nearby so I can go more often.

The staff was very nice and the facilities were impressive as well.  However, that's the extent of the 2 stars.  I think they were ridiculously over priced.  Perhaps it was because they are a "green" spa, but my wrap treatment was not hot enough at all.  In fact, I was borderline cold.  It definitely didn't do anything for me, not even relaxing like a massage.

But I do want to stress that this is in NO WAY A REFLECTION ON THE STAFF.  They were AMAZING and I tipped them really well.

Service is impeccable here.  Clean spa.  Makes me want to come back for those two reasons, so four stars!

I also did the Groupon (or was it LivingSocial?) body wrap.  Can't say I felt a difference, and I wouldn't go back for a body wrap.  Maybe a massage.  Body wraps aren't my thing.

I had to force the second deal I bought on someone.  My boyfriend had the body wrap, felt claustrophobic and described the experience as being trapped in a swamp.

You only have one life to live!  Your body is there for you through good and bad, and it deserves to be pampered!

With Halloween just around the corner, I decided to try Avra for their detoxifing and toning treatments--Need all the help I can get for that sexy skin tight black jumpsuit for my little Kitty Cat costume.   =P

I took advantage of the special offer for $40.00 off the Sudatonic Infrared Body Wrap.  I'm so glad I did!

Avra is definitely a results oriented Day Spa focusing on the overall well-being of the body rather than just relaxation. Spa Services vary from Detoxing the body either by Wraps or Colonics, Massage therapy, and Facials with organic skin care products.

My treatment for the day was the Sudatonic Infared Body Wrap.  What the hell is that you might be asking? I had the same question over and over in my head as I was deciding whether or not to pay a visit.

But I gave a call to Avra and spoke to the receptionist Nick.  Nick was extremely knowledgeable about the various services offered, and answered all of my questions very thoroughly.

My therapist was Vita.  Loved Vita!  She is extremely welcoming, friendly, and quickly put me at ease for my wrap.  Vita paid special attention to my needs, i.e making sure I was constantly comfortable, and double checking for irritation on my sensitive skin.  I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful therapist!

Prior to treatment, you are weighed and your body fat measured.  During actual treatment, your body is pretty much wrapped in layers from silk sheets, towels and a heated 25 pound blanket, all while you are laying on an extremely hot bed.  This treament is to help your body sweat out toxins which help minimize body fat.  You may also lose up to 3lbs of weight from this treatment as well.

While I wasn't expecting to lose much weight as I'm pretty fit and at a decent weight,  I did lose 1 pound.  : )  But my immediate results were more from overall body fat which I think I lost about 2 inches all around. Not bad for a first treatment.

After being wrapped you lay for 45 minutes while your body sweats, and sweats and sweats.  This treatment is very uncomfortable, I won't lie.  Who wants to be wrapped almost like a mummy laying on a hot bed of temperatures that get up to 140 Degrees?  NO THANK YOU.  But the immediate feeling after being unwrapped is definitely a very refreshing feeling, you awake feeling like a newly cleansed person.  Both inside and out.

After wrapping, Vita massaged some seaweed lymphatic firming gel over the entire body...very relaxing and a great way to end my session.

Vita welcomed me to the Lounge area where a special Organic Kombucha Cocktail waited for me.  I have no idea whats in the cocktail, but it was a great touch to the end of my treatment, rather than the typical water or tea offered at other spas.   She advised me on aftercare of the body and foods to avoid.

Overall, Avra is a great spa to visit if you have the time and money to come for repeated sessions.  My initial session was very relaxing-- I am happy with the results.  And I'm anxious to see how I feel and look after a few more sessions.  But be prepared to drop some dough for treatments.

    I will defintiely be back!

After all, Spas are my 2nd Home!

Tira R. of Avra Organic Spa, invited me to visit Avra, so over the weekend, I gifted myself with an Intuitive Massage and Herbal Body Wrap and my sister with a Custom Facial and Herbal Body Wrap. Why the body wraps? Mostly out of curiosity, plus a special grand opening price [see website for details].

Their goal at Avra is "to provide a comfortable and nurturing environment where you can de-stress and detoxify in a safe and chemical free manner." They do just that, and I really love that their focus is not only on de-stressing, but also on detoxifying! They are a green spa, using organic and sustainable products in their services.

Avra definitely has that organic, woodsy feel to it. The decorations are minimal and enhance the experience to help you relax. Even though we were fifteen minutes late to the appointment, we were greeted and attended to right away. The staff were all personable and knowledgeable about the services that were offered. We were served tea [they create their blends to work in conjunction with the wraps] and water as we filled out questionnaires in their nicely decorated waiting room. Then the wrappists came in to explain the procedure and answer any questions we had on the process.

The Herbal Body Wraps were interesting, and really, you should give it a shot once just to see what it's like. They take you to these dressing rooms, and basically wrap these soaked bandages over your underwear or swimsuit. You can choose to wrap your head up too, but we opted for the less intense version of this mummification. The herbal formula that the bandages are soaked into work with your body, and after laying in a comfy chair in a dark room for about an hour, you emerge with the bandages even MORE wet than when you began the wrapping. It may seem odd, but I've been told it's a sign that the wrap is actually working! You do get a little chilly as the unwrapping takes place, but the wrappists work quickly to keep you as comfortable as possible.

ONE THING - don't forget to breathe out when they wrap you! It only gets tighter the longer you stay in those bandages.

The Intuitive Massage was extremely relaxing. The whole idea is that the massage therapist listens to the energy and body to determine what needs to be worked on. I generally like the knots to be worked on, and I can handle a rough massage, but Crystal was extremely gentle while still achieving the results. Due to my relatively poor circulation, however, I ended up really cold about halfway through. I was still relaxed though because when I finally came out of the room, I was told later on that I looked rather stunned/dazed. Hah!

I didn't have firsthand experience with the Organic Facial, but I could see the results immediately. My sister's face was shiny [in that good way] and bright. In terms of other results, I wasn't planning on losing weight, so I didn't weigh myself before and after the wrap. It was just something to try. The massage was great, but since I'm made of knots, I can always use more.

If it weren't out in tourist central and if I was made of $$$, I'd jump on a chance to revisit Avra again. My body can definitely use the detoxification. Parking is available in the lot across the street, but it's a little pricey [$2 for every 20 minutes, $2 for the first hour with validation from a store in the plaza with a $5 minimum purchase] due to location and that you'll likely spend several hours at Avra.

So I bought a FreshGuide for this place last year and completely forgot about it until the people of FreshGuide sent me a little reminder nudge to go use it before it expired. Alas, I did.

I called a couple days before my appointment and the lady on the phone was very helpful and explained the different services that were available from my groupon. After hearing about the Herbal Body Wrap, I decided I wanted to give that a shot (I never had a body wrap before).

On my appointment day, I was pleasantly surprised by the interior. This is why: I actually had to drive by the place twice before realizing where this spa was. Because from the outside, it looks like a dental building or something. Very cold and uninviting. But when you walk in to their dedicated suite, you immediately feel like you are in a spa.

I checked in and then waited in the meditation room for my infrared sauna to start. While waiting, I helped myself to the delicious organic herbal tea they had sitting there. Yum!

The sauna experience was OK. I felt like it was too long and too boring. It is a bit small too, so being the 5'10" girl that I am, I felt a bit cramped in the sauna room. But on a positive note, I did feel like I was eliminating a bunch of toxins via sweat. Felt damn good! I would take breaks in between the thirty minutes and get some water that they had set up right outside the sauna room.

Then I went back to the meditation room and waited for my herbal wrap to start. I waited for all of 5 minutes until my wrap therapist came to greet me. I forget her name, but she was very professional and made my experience more comortable. As we walked to the wrapping room, she explained to me what I would expect.

The wrap was amazing. I decided to go with the optional head/neck massage which I highly recommend. Because lying there in a room with ace bandages tightening up your chest, core, and each limb of your body can get boring without the added neck/head massage. The organic oils and herbs that the ace bandages were soaked in smelled sooo good and definitely made for a relaxing experience.

The only negative thing I have to say about my experience was after my wrap was done, my therapist told me to get dressed and that she would meet me in the meditation room with some special instructions. So I waited and waited in the meditation room, until I realized the time on my meter was about to run out and I walked to the reception area and saw her standing there with a sheet of paper! She was waiting there the whole time and I was waiting in the meditation room for no reason. Other than that minor miscommunication, the experience was excellent!

After the wrap, I felt like I lost 2 inches. I felt amazing and went home to try on my skinninest skinny jeans and wah-la! I fit into them!

I highly recommend their herbal body wrap before a big event. You'll feel amazing.

Oh yelp....I've been gone for way too long. But my recent experience at Avra inpsired me to write again.

    Where do I start?

My boyfriend and I purchased a groupon special for a 60 minute deep tissue massage and 30 minute sauna for 65 bucks. We thought we were getting a deal.  I even checked it out on yelp...the reviews seemed solid.  Turned out to be the worst 65 dollars I ever spent (80 with tip).

We booked a deep tissue massage. Deep tissue.  In fact the groupon we bought only came with a deep tissue massage.  The massage literally felt like someone was rubbing lotion on my body - no pressure whatsoever. I felt frustrated for the entire hour. I almost started laughing, and considered just telling my masseuse she could leave half way through it.

At the end of the massage we found out they had accidentally given us Swedish massages. No excuse. A bad massage is a bad massage.  I wanted my money back.

The other strange and uncomfortable part of our experience was the sauna.  These are really tiny saunas, and a bit claustrophobic.....my 6 foot 5 boyfriend barely could get in.  After 30 minutes in there we were sweaty (who wouldn't be?).....and yet we were directed to go straight to our massage. A little gross. We ended up asking if we could shower after our massage (since we had dinner reservations afterward), and there is one shower they let us use - but this is a shower they use for colonics only.  It was a little awkward to say the least. I think spas should all have showers for guests use, especially ones with saunas, but that's just me. Some people don't mind walking out of a spa stinky....then again it doesn't go well with the whole "spa experience."

Agra Organic Spa is really something special.

My experience here was relaxing and educational and I walked out in a great mood knowing that I had done something that was truly good for me. Right when I walked in Laura was up front and started discussing with me what Avra was all about and what her philosophy on organic treatment is all about - good to know considering she's the one who designed the herbal combination for the wraps!!

Jocelyn was in charge of actually wrapping me up and she was so sweet and informative so I knew exactly what I was getting myself into! The experience itself is exactly as others have described it - 1. wrap up tight with soaked ace bandages, 2. don spacesuit, 3. relax and watch planet earth! Jocelyn always asked if she was wrapping too tight but I replied each time "hell no!!!" I will gladly withstand tight wrapping for lost inches!! But the wraps definitely do get tighter through 45 minutes so if they are too tight be sure to speak up!! Right after the 45 minutes as I walked over to get unwrapped my spacesuit pants fell off which I perceive to mean...it's working!! I've been drinking water like a maniac this past week and I can definitely see more definition and tone!

After the wrap I went over to see Crystal about a massage and now I know precisely why they call it "intuitive." Unlike most massages where the masseuse starts on one side and goes through an entire program, then switches to the other and does the same again, Crystal will vary up pressure and technique based on what your body needs. For me, I am much more tense on the right side and she definitely realized this and gave it more attention. Also, she explained to me why she was doing what she was doing which made me appreciate the massage so much more. Unfortunately I couldn't retain all the information so she considerately wrote it all down for me at the end of the session =). Thanks Crystal!!

All in all, a great 3 hours spent at Avra Organic Spa. For me, the entire visit was mostly about the experience. The people were amazing and genuinely devoted to Avra's mission and I felt really well taken care of. Avra only does have only your best interest at heart - I loved it and would highly recommend them to everyone!!

Being my first facial.. I'm 29, I was a bit scared.  The spa itself was very nice.. smelled nice, looked nice.. was nice.  The front desk ladies were very welcoming.  I had a 45 minute sauna session, and then a european facial with Vita afterwords.   Overall a very nice experience.  Vita gave some advise for my ocassional breakout problems, including cutting peanut butter from my diet!  (Sad Face)  I wish I could say more about the facial, but since it was my first one I have nothing to compare it to.  She rubbed diff products on my face, used some tools.. my skin looks great today, much more smooth.   (I got the facial yesterday)  Was advised to get a facial every 4 months.. sounds good to me!

I docked a star because I felt there was room for improvement.. heres the story.. I finished my sauna and was told to wear the robe and slippers supplied and to wait in the tea room.. from there they would bring me to the facial room.  So I am in my robe.. naked underneth, in HUGE slippers obviously made for a man.  (I wear a size 5.5 shoe)  I sit there for what feels like 45 minutes.. in real time it was 15-20 minutes.  What I disliked about it was that no one acknowledaged me waiting, rather I had to ask if they knew I was there.  One of the girls said that they are setting up the room.  Okay, so I wait more.. and obviously more clients are in the room with me.  They of course are fully clothed, and I was there in my robe and huge oversized slippers.. I felt totally out of place.  So thats the neg one star.  I will def be back to see Vita, and to feel her magical fingers on my face.

First things first: I'm talking about colons here, and not the punctuation kind. So if you're still reading and feel ready to jump into the world of colon hydrotherapy, go to Avra. Friendly, knowledgeable and supportive therapists give you great insights not only into the process, but ways to stay healthy long after your cleanse.

My body is thrilled I found Avra and highly recommend them for any detoxification process you may be looking into. Here's to being healthy!

I really wanted to like this place but now I understand why they had to use groupon to generate business... (aside from the fact that it's so hidden it's nearly impossible to find- you'd think they'd have a sign!). I spent 30 minutes in their infrared sauna... hot and boring and it didn't have that good woody smell that saunas have, but whatever that's not the point.

The facial: 60 minutes, felt great, was relaxed, the esthetician was really nice, BUT my skin looked the same when i left except slightly greasy and the next day i was breaking out so bad from where she did the extractions- my nose and forehead have red patches all over and my skin looks worse than before i went there... NEVER AGAIN! i partially blame it on crappy products.

A few weeks ago I started my journey to visiting this spa. I called during business hours to make an appointment and it went to voicemail. On the third time this happened over the course of a few days I gave up on getting a real person and left a message. It took a few days to hear back. When I got the message I tried to book the option offered. It was gone, so I booked an appointment for the following week.

48 hours before the appointment I called to see if anything else had opened up. Good thing I called... I wasn't in the system. The receptionist chuckled, "oh that person is new" as if I should have known better.

I feel pretty confident other spas would have found a way to see me, especially with 2 days notice... but not even an apology here. Still, I booked the next available, for the end of that week. My husband graciously arranged to leave work early, since it was at a time when we don't have childcare.

I get to the appointment today. There's no receptionist, and there's an agitated person ahead of me who had clearly been waiting a while. 15 minutes into my appointment time a woman takes me back... FOR THE WRONG SERVICE.

Nope. They can't see me today... unless I'd like to pay for something I don't want...

The therapist then offered me a free sauna. I have two babies and can't detox that way as it gets into the milk. She responded "You poor child!" I'm sure that wasn't meant to be as offensive as it sounded...?

I return to reception. I'm instantly offered a sauna again. Does this happen often enough this is the 'go to' plan?

Because it is free, I will return tomorrow to try again for the treatment I want. If it is spectacular, I will update this post...

Relaxing and Invigorating. This place just makes you feel good.

I tried the herbal body wrap, which helps detoxify your body, as well as tones and tightens your skin. Jocelyn described the whole process in detail while she covered me up with the soaked wraps. The wraps are soaked in some interesting organic ingredients, including green tea, cayenne pepper, and seaweed. It actually has a cooling effect, so they put you into a windbreaker before you lay back in the recliner. I got a nice foot massage and some of their tasty chocolate tea to help me relax while the wraps did their thing. I basically had a nice nap listening to the soothing music.

Feeling quite relaxed, the wraps were removed and I was led to the massage room with Crystal. Before she started, she gave me some information about how the lymph nodes and different parts of your body work together to process toxins. Essentially, if your muscles and circulation are out of whack, then your body can't do its job.

After a bit more information, and questioning about how I was feeling that day, she started on the massage. Her massage style is more intuitive, and she senses what your body needs at the moment. She interchanges pressure and technique with each part of your body. The massage was so soothing and relaxing, I honestly did not want it to end.

They also offer other services to help your body work and feel better, including colon hydrotherapy and facials. If your body needs a little detoxifying, or you just need a little pampering, this place is definitely worth checking out.

Very nice, clean place. I had the Herbal body wrap. The service was very professional and friendly.  I never had a wrap before this - it is supposed to detoxify, eliminate water retention, etc. ....I didn't feel any different afterwards.

I had nice wrap experience and appreciated the clean, nicely staged facility and professional staff. FYI, parking if difficult in the area... For that reason only, I probably won't be back soon.

I love this place. I don't throw 5 stars around so this is major.  Having just walked out of this spa, I can say two things. One I will be back. And two I will be bringing others. This place was amazing and the staff was extremely courtious and charming. I had the body wrap and enjoyed every minute of it. My spa tech was polite delightful and made direct eye contact when talking with me. It's something I highly prize in people.

The prices for what they offer aren't bad - but I won't beagle to go here once a month. If you are looking for a calming soothing and genuine place to give yourself or someone else a pampering GO TO AVRA.

I'll say it again. I love this place.

I think we can all agree to the fact that in life, there are good days and there are bad days. The name of the game that is life is to figure out how to have more of the former rather than the latter.

I've only been to Avra once, but if my first experience was any sign of what future visits will be like, I definitely have many great days coming my way.

I'm constantly looking for new ways to sustain a healthy lifestyle. There are endless amounts of "try these" or "if you do this" or "take that" options out there whether you're perusing the Internet, reading a magazine or simply just conversating with people that we come across in our everyday lives.

One of my friends recently introduced me to Colon Hydrotherapy or Colonics or what I'm now calling it, the single greatest thing I've ever done for my body. After several conversations and many an hour spent searching and researching on the Internet, I came to the conclusion that it was time to take the leap and make good times for my colon happen.

I will be honest, I had never done anything like this before and was quite nervous to say the least. These feelings faded shortly after entering Avra. From the moment I walked in the door, Tira R. and her staff made made me feel extremely comfortable... from the oh so delicious tea to the detailed explanation of what we would be doing throughout my visit.

Obviously, one can't go into too much detail about the colonic, but let me just say this: there are few times in life when you feel like you get the opportunity to hit the reset button, but after a colonic, you feel just that and more. There's no secret as to the many health benefits of colonics which you definitely feel shortly after you've completed your session, but what's surprising is how great you feel mentally and emotionally. It truly is a great "release" for mind, body and soul.

I definitely look forward to my next visit... have been since my last one. Quite interesting in seeing what the herbal body wraps are all about, they sound amazing.

Trust me when I say that you're in great hands at Avra. They are definitely on to something there, but I've said enough. Check it out and see for yourself. Your body deserves it.

I really like the idea of being more natural and organic, yet at the same time, I like my fancier, more commercial spas usually.

This was not that, it was small, hidden away, with no real clear signage (tiny sign outside building) outside and inside an office building. The spa itself was small, warm and definitely inviting but more in a organic type way. The waiting room didn't have the most comfortable chairs, but they had cushions, and there was some sort of slimming tea you could drink while you wait. The color scheme was all wood and natural colors which goes well along with the theme of the spa.

I had a massage which was wonderful, and my girlfriend had a wrap. She really liked the wrap but did say that she was a tad uncomfortable with how long she was left alone all mummied up for. In regards to my massage, to me there was no difference between this organic massage and a normal massage, but it might have been in the oils used, it just wasn't a substantial difference to me. The other treatments on the menu look like standard spa treatments but with all natural organic products, and alongside treatments that are more modern and holistic like colonics and cleanses. They also sell a ton of product so that you can continue your spa experience at home.

The staff here is super amazing and friendly and the treatments were good and I guess being organic made me felt a bit healthier despite the pampering and self indulgence. Overall I really liked the place and the intimate atmosphere it was, it was just really different from the spas that I normally go to. But not different in a bad way!

Let's just say that Kristin made my colon hydrotherapy experience...very smooth! LOL!

She was warm, friendly and massaged my hands and stomach during the process which helps.

The space is a bit tight but nicely decorated with friendly staff. I'll definitely be back for more treatments.

I feel cleaner and skinnier. What more can a girl ask for?

I kinda have mixed feelings about this place.

Although I did feel relaxed afterward and can see how the bandages clean out your pores, I don't think I lost weight as they advertised, and I felt like my circulation was completely cut off because they wrap the bandages around you sooo freakin' tight. I was barely able to move and was thinking "Is this how you're suppose to relax??"  Also, I don't think the "relaxation room" was very "relaxing" as people keep coming in and out so it gets distracting. I could even hear noise from the muni buses outside.

So even though I can understand it's benefits, I don't understand why the regular price is $129!!  Good thing I only paid $50 during spa week.

This spa is beyond amazing.  Each staff member is extremely hospitable and welcoming.  Between everyone, they have the answer and back round in any nutrition, health and wellness field you could possibly want answered in one, efficient, healing, relaxing, peaceful and rejuvenating spa.

I have had the herbal body wraps, sudatonic wrap and facial and am in love with it all.  With my lifestyle (and anyone's hectic schedule) this place is my comfort zone that allows me to relax, decompress, detox while gaining health, energy and calmness.

I recommend Avra to anyone!  I got a membership and it's totally worth it.  I go several times a week and have never felt better.

Avra is truly an amazing healing experience I received as a gift from SustainLane. Crystal was the healer at the spa who massaged out not only tense muscles from holiday deadlines but digestive and immune system issues, all within an hour. Before the massage, I enjoyed some hot herbal tea. After the message, I enjoyed a yummy raw goji berry infused chocolate.
    Life is better after Avra.

I don't frequent spas but have been to a couple, and this is the only organic one I've been to.
They definitely care about quality here, the waiting area is totally green, recycled eco furniture! -but not too comfortable so don't arrive too early for your appointment :)

The manager assured me they use cruelty-free products! But some have animal ingredients in them, so be sure to tell them if you care.

Service is awesome, I don't like the location though... I hate the neighborhood, it's too bad.

Loved the Organic Body Wrap! I had purchased a coupon to try it and I was pleasantly surprised. The individual sauna rooms are comfortable and relaxing to have a private room. During the Body Wrap they basically wrap you up like a mummy in ace bandages, they wrap you up so you stay warm and you nap on a massage table for 30 minutes. The Wrap left me feeling refreshed and my skin smooth and tight...highly recommend!

I'll be honest, I'm a dude and generally not all that into spas...

    That said, onto my experience.

I got invited to try a free herbal wrap... didn't know what to expect. It was kind of like getting mummified in bandages of juicy, organic healthiness. I was pretty uncomfortable getting bandaged up ankle to neck, being my first time and all, but my wrapper was really sweet about the whole thing and even laughed at my mummy jokes. She brought me tea and chocolate while my toxins were getting pressure launched out of my body and politely & genuinely came to check on me two or three times.

I am pretty skeptical about quick fixes, but when it was done I felt tight... like really tight.  Like patrick swayze back in the day tight...

I heard from some friends who are regulars that massage from Crystal is incredible and that Tira the colon hydrotherapist works intestinal miracles.

The super cool people who work there made me feel welcome and completely comfortable. When it comes time for me to detox again you may just see me relaxing in my avra mummy suit with hot tea and dark chocolate!

I got an "Intuitive massage" here during spa week. it was OK but i wasn't blown away by it.... the room was cute and nicely decorated... but the lady that massaged me didn't do it hard enough. i guess i should have said something... but i told her in the beginning that i liked it hard!  oh well.

staff were nice and all but i probably won't return especially with regular prices...  nice treat during spa week but otherwise, not worth the price for me.

i don't get it.  i got a groupon a while back for a body wrap, and i finally redeemed it last week.  it came w/ the 45 infrared sauna, but since i arrived late, i just sat in there for 15 min, which was fine by me.

afterwards, i was taken to another room for the wrap.  i had tira, who was very nice, but she didn't have to do much.  she wrapped me up, had me lie down, and then she left the room.  she came in every so often to check up on me, but at some point, i fell asleep.  by the end, i felt super claustrophobic and couldn't wait to get out.

afterwards, you are supposed to feel tight and people feel lighter.  i don't know what the other reviewers were smoking, but i did not feel any of these effects at all.  in fact, i got more bloated and actually gained weight.  maybe i shouldn't blame it on the wrap but on my horrible eating habits, but still...shouldn't the wrap have countered those effects?

Had my first colinic/hydrotherapy session -- it was amazing! They have what they call an "open" system that is not nearly as uncomfortable as the tradition "closed" system where a larger tube is used. I felt like a million dollars afterwards, and I plan on going back many more times.

The only reason I don't give the place five stars was the staff member's insistence that I had a wheat and dairy allergy. I know it's really popular right now to not eat wheat or dairy, but that's for people who are sensitive to it, and I'm not one of them. She even recommended I stop eating my beloved - eat it everyday - oatmeal because it may have mixed with wheat in the factory. Besides that, she gave me great advice on a supplement to take, Triphala, which I've been taking and I love. She also shamed me for not drinking enough water (8-10 cups/day) which I now do and am feeling great.

All-in-all, I've been telling everyone about this place, it was a great experience!

This place turned out to be wonderful. Tira, the owner saw that I was upset and made sure to take extra care of me when I walked in.

Leela who did my facial was very knowledgeable and even offered to give me a foot massage while I had my mask on. This was after I told her my feet were hurting due to dance lessons. It was so nice of her to offer.

The private sauna was nice as well. The body wrap was interesting, I've never tried anything like that before but I like that they use all organic ingredients.

Oh and the tea is great too.

Thank you Tira and staff for a wonderful experience!

I TOTALLY recommend Avra for several occasions/experiences:

The Hospitality:  The staff is sooo helpful and awesome.  They all know what they're doing and go out of their way to make you feel at home.  Unlike other spas i've gone to, they play music that is soothing and don't make you feel "less then" when you enter all frazzled and in gym clothes.

The Treats:  And the TEA is so incredibly delicious! Rumor has it that it's an original blend they make special just for the spa. Also, the organic chocolates were amazing!  Try the coconut one.

The Organic Facial:  Forgot the woman's name that does this...but she is AWESOME!  Very soothing voice and had a soft touch...and afterward, my face was literally glowing for a week. So much so that I didn't even have to wear my usual foundation. And after that I noticed a huge difference with less acne.

The Herbal Body Wrap:  Okay, so I'm not one to usually believe in "loss WEIGHT now" hype...but since they we're having a special on the Herbal Body Wrap this month...I thought, why the heck not.  But I will honestly say...I am a BELIEVER!  After the wrap, I was much more tone, less bloated & actually FELT skinnier!  I guess my body holds onto toxins and water weight a lot more then I thought...cuz after the wrap, I felt like a whole new person. Very refreshed and lighter.

The 60 Minute Massage: Crystal is AMMAAAAAAAZING!  She was such a sweetheart and really knew how to listen to my body and knew exactly what was going on with it and what trouble areas needed help.  IT was as if she had a road map to my body and knew the exact places that needed to be visited.  Okay, that sounds a lil wierd...but it's true!  I felt 100% better weeks after that massage.

So yes, for one of the ONLY organic spas in the Bay Area...you should definitely go to Avra Organic Spa.  Especially if your trying to lose those extra inches for an event, wedding or just cuz.

The only downside is the parking...since it's so close to the tourist trap, Fisherman's Wharf, give yourself some time before your appointment to find a spot.  Or just pay the private lot.

Avra Organic Spa is a great space to relax, detox and rejuvenate.
I enjoy the beautiful healing environment they have created and have rented their space in the past for lectures and workshops.
The staff is very friendly and it was a pleasure working with them.

This place was just okay. The staff are really friendly and the spa is kept really clean, but I don't think it was really worth $50 for their Herbal body wrap.

I came here for the Spa week special and after speaking to the receptionist about the treatment, I was really excited about coming. I had Krystle do the body wrap for me, she was really nice.

Basically, you get wrapped in these pre-soaked bandages from head to toe then they make you put on these garbage bag looking clothes.
After that they'll direct you into their relaxation room, cover you in a blanket, then give you some tea. For the next 30 or so minutes you can sleep or watch tv. BTW, they don't give you a foot massage like the receptionist said they will. Just a FYI. After all of that..they just unwrap you then thats it. Time to go home! :)

    And I don't think I lost any inches. :(

Working as a photographer requires a fair amount of physical work and being on your feet all day. So after a very long work day, I came to Avra for a Swedish massage. This was my very FIRST professional massage and I didn't know what to anticipate, but I found the experience really relaxing, and nearly fell asleep a few times. Sarah, my massage therapist was great in asking me beforehand about what muscle areas I needed to have worked out, and did a great job.

Now that I've had my first massage, I think for the future I can better communicate to the therapist how I'd like the massage, and also that I now know, after jumping a few times on the bed, that I have a high tickle reflex! But despite my ticklish nerves, at the end of the massage I blissfully oozed off the table.

Avra also has a really great ambience and everyone was so nice and professional. I also really appreciate their green efforts. Overall, I think I could definitely get used to the pampering, and also I kind of like smelling like a coconut.

I've been getting colonics, excuse me, colon hydrotherapy, for the last couple years-three or four a year. The Avra experience was tops.

Professional, relaxing (a good thing when getting a "cleanse") and friendly. Tira was my hydrotherapist and she seemed to know her away around a colon because I was drained afterward. The room and table have the same feel as if you were going to get a massage-soft lighting, trippy music and warm sheets. Tira also threw on the infra-red lamp onto my colon which I'm told helps.

Cup of hot tea waiting after, easy parking and honestly, I love the ironic location of Fisherman's wharf for a relaxing spa. 5 stars, Avra
