once again, i totally agree with eden m. while i am a meaty ol. meat fan, and frequent eagle for my...meat, i have lived in the nabe for almost 5 years and they are still cold as iced to me (and, not to compromise my privacy, but i also work in the nabe at several local establishments, and am polite, so seriously.

anyway, balance is awesome and the owners are the best, and the prices are competitive. the lady owner said she was considering finding out how to make her own home cooked pakistani food and sell it at the store - encourage her, peoples!

I had the "Popeye" juice, which had carrots, spinach, broccoli, and celery. It was good, but it was mostly carrots, which seems to be the case at a lot of juice bars, so perhaps I shouldn't complain too much. I wanted a super-green juice but they didn't seem to offer one.

What really pleased me was that the employee poured the juice right into my glass jar so that 1) I could transport it on my bike without spilling it and 2) to reduce packaging. Thank you!

They use to have these great cupcakes that I haven't seen for three or so weeks. I had a German Chocolate one that was fruit sweetened and locally baked by a stay at home mommy. The cupcake was better than BabyCakes and a good 80 cents cheaper!
As for other ready-made desserts, Balanced is a little unbalanced... They gots your Marry me Bars and the occasional cookie, but everything else has to be made.
Plenty of cereal, baking needs, and even some bulk nuts in the back!

Balanced life is great for its connivence and helpful staff, I think its family owned which makes me happy to spend a dollar more than Trader Joes.

I want this shop to succeed.  I will say that mantra until they supersize and take over my whole neighborhood, with health food franchises on every block.

Adeela and Siddique and their lovely sons have opened a health food market and juice bar in my rapidly gentrifying neighborhood.  They have the usual organic and gluten free fare, as well as a great section for personal care items, vitamins, and home use items like soap and toilet paper.  But the best thing about this shop is how much they obviously care about their customers.

They constantly are bringing in new merchandise, trying new lines and items, reorganizing the store to feature more things for the customers.  And when I go in there, I feel like I've stepped into a small town shop where the owner knows and recognizes me, inquires about my life and how I liked what I bought last time.  This approach makes me feel welcome in their shop, not pushed through like so many other commercial enterprises.

Go in to the store and buy, buy, buy.  The products are good for you, and the owners are just sweeties.  Can't have enough of that.

Balance Life is great! The owners are incredibly friendly and always remember their "regular" customers. They appreciate customer feedback and will order new foods per customer suggestion.

Balance Life is awesome. The owners are very nice and if there is anything you want they will get it for you. I read another review that said their juice bar was a joke and it is true that when they first started it going they often were out of all the things they needed to keep up with the demand for juice; but now that they actually added an organic produce section to the store (yay!)  they always have everything they need in stock. They also make a killer protein shake, and I am a vegan, so getting a delicious soy protein shake is a challenge! And their extensive selection of the amazing Larabars is wonderful. They have everything from vitamins to nuts to veggie jerky to organic beauty products! I am so happy this place opened so close to my house!

I went here for the first time, and I will go back.  I'm not well versed in health food stores but they were very, very helpful and even gave me a 10% discount just 'cause.  So yes, 5 stars.  Check this place out.

I needed neem oil for reasons too humiliating to explore here. I went to seven different stores in pursuit of it (including Back to the Land, Traditions, which is another health food store on 5th Avenue, and Neergards) and only Balance actually had it in stock. Their juice bar is a  joke, however (they had one apple and maybe a single, shriveling foreskin of ginger on hand when I inquired as to what my options would be).

Great local natural market.  Yes, it's small, and the selection isn't huge, but where else can you buy vegetarian meatballs in the South Slope?  It's nice to be able to buy specialty foods in a store where there is no line and the cashier remembers you.  I would buy everything I need here if they only had it in stock, and I lived a few blocks closer.  I have shopped here for a couple of years now and the proprietors do a great job of keeping the place stocked.
