I have curly hair and I read on-line about a special cut and product line featured at Balance called Deva Curl. Eager to check it out - I booked an appointment. The only stylist trained in the technique was the owner, so I thought I was in luck because he had a great reputation.
I got the cut, bought the products, etc. As I left the salon - my hair did not look great. I feared that he had not texturized it enough and that it would be really lumpy and unflattering. You should look great leaving a salon - I did not. It just wasn't a great cut - I could tell by the feel and the way the hair was falling.
I struggled with it for a week on my own and my hair just looked unkempt. I love the look of natural curls when the cut is good, but this was not working for me. I returned to the salon and was informed that I needed more product - that would do the trick, right? Another $30 bottle of hairspray will not fix a bad cut. The hair was not falling well and if you know curly hair - having the right shape to the cut is critical.
I must say, though, the Deva curl products themselves are excellent. I just wish I had gotten a better cut. Also, the salon seems intent on pushing product and they also sell an array of tchotchkes that they "go up to NYC to buy" every month. Honestly, looks like the stuff you can get on street corners - cute, but not worth the prices that they are charging - at least for some of the stuff.
I will not be going back. Be careful when going here - if you need something complicated, maybe another salon is a better choice. -

I've been going to Balance for about a year.
I used to trust only myself to the cutting of my locks, but due to getting a little too old to look like an art student, finally I sucked it up and sought out professional help.
The atmosphere is really great, the entire staff is friendly and they always have specials. Plus, I just got a gift card from them for my birthday. -

Best cut I've gotten since I lived in New York. They really know what they are doing here. I have thinning, wavy hair that most places can't deal with. Balance was able to make my hair look like I flew in to New York on my private jet for a salon treatment. It's difficult to get an appointment, but worth it.

I go to Balance and I love how they cut my hair. Before going to Balance I had just an "average" haircut, one that wasn't bad but not great either. I was looking to get a haircut that made me look amazing, but nobody quite seemed to be able to cut short hair around my area. So I heard about Balance from a friend and tried there.
I went to Balance and had Thomas cut my hair. He was very nice, very helpful, offering a lot of insight and his own opinion on how to cut it, and did an excellent job for me. He was friendly and really seemed experienced when he was cutting my hair. Also, he really listens to what you have to say - he won't make changes that you don't ask him to. Thomas is the BEST at cutting and styling short to very short hair.
A lot of the other hairdressers seemed to be great too - I saw them cut other clients' hair and I all admired their hairstyles afterwards.
Overall the salon is clean, friendly, and great for a nice cut that people will comment on. You'll get a unique, beautiful haircut here!
