Several things stand out about Lisa, the founder of B.C.A.

She makes sure she knows your complete health history, including both the Western and Eastern medical treatments you've received.  Every time you go for treatment, she asks very specifically what's happening in your body and which areas need her focus.  There is no cookie-cutter approach here.  It's tailored to each patient, and is tailored to how you are feeling at that very moment.

And you'll know why the word "community" is in her business name.  She wants to make acupuncture affordable for as many people as she can.  She charges on a sliding scale of $20-$40, which is incredibly reasonable.  There is one treatment room, so you might be treated at the same time with one or two other patients.   However, the lights are low, peaceful music is playing, and I find the atmosphere to be one of shared healing.

I had never had acupuncture before, and went to Lisa with hopes of alleviating the pain from osteoarthritis of the hips.  In all honesty, I was astounded at the results.  I started to feel better after the first treatment, and the improvement has continued.

Lisa is an expert in her field, and has a very kind, caring and gentle way about her.  I recommend her without reservation.

After my twins were born 10 months ago, I developed tendinitis in my left wrist. It was so painful . I went to my general MD and was told to take ibuprofen and try to not use it. Well, with 2 babies not using it was not an option. I began to receive acupuncture treatments from Lisa and shortly I felt so much better. My wrist isn't a problem any more but I am hooked on acupuncture and continue to receive treatments, now for my overall well being and for the aches and pains (neck, low back..) of being a 43 year old mom !

I'm not really a huge believer in Eastern Medicine (mostly because I haven't tried much of it), but after seeing a friend have much success beating her Rheumatory Arthritis with acupuncture and Chinese herbs, I decided to check it out.  B.C.A was my choice because a friend recommended it AND--here's the kicker--it's WAY less expensive than most acupuncture.  They charge on a sliding scale between $20 - $40--you pay what you can afford.  Some friends mocked me for going to discount acupuncture, but the whole philosophy behind this place is that most people who need acupuncture need it regularly (once or twice a week) but may be unwilling or unable to afford it.  To accomodate the lower cost, you don't get a private room--acupuncture is done with a couple of people sharing a room, though each person gets a totally personalized experience.  I wouldn't call it discount--I would call it "welcoming and inclusive."

I was still a bit skeptical when I went, but seriously--after I was done I could barely drive home I was so relaxed.  My stress symptoms went away for the rest of the week and I felt a million times better.  I've gone twice now, and each time I've been amazed.  I'm a massage veteran, but I just haven't acheived this kind of lasting relaxation with massage.

Plus, Lisa (the founder) has such a nice demeanor--warm, friendly, calming... and she knows what she's doing.

    I'm hooked.

Balance Community Acupuncture has one goal in mind--
to provide quality acupuncture at affordable rates.

Acupuncture has come a long way in the past few
decades. Most people are curious about it, but not sure if
it can help their particular condition.

Working Class Acupuncture located in Portland Oregon
are the pioneers of community based acupuncture in the
United States, because they wanted to make acupuncture
more affordable for everyone.

Not only can acupuncture treat over 40 conditions
recognized by The World Health Organization, it is often
used as preventative medicine. Acupuncture restores the
bodies ability to heal itself in order to fight disease and
infections.

History

Established in 2009

Community acupuncture simply means treatments are
done in a quiet common area, as opposed to private
rooms. Patients relax on comfortable zero gravity
reclining chairs. Needles are placed along the arms,
hands, legs, feet, ears and head. The group setting
allows personalized care to multiple patients per hour.
This style of treatment makes it possible for us to keep
our fees low and make acupuncture available to a greater
number of people.

In Asia, acupuncture treatments occur in community,
group settings. The communal style of treatments has
many benefits. Friends and family can be treated
together. Some report feeling less nervous and safer
when they see others relaxing and often sleeping while
receiving acupuncture. Additionally, there is a collective
energy when people are healing together, thus making
individualized treatments more powerful.

It is important to make a commitment to your treatment
plan and to yourself. Keeping our rates low, helps you
keep that commitment.
