I'm a puddle.  No, not because I'm shallow!  It's because I just got the greatest massage of life from Ben Jahn and it feels like I have no bones.  I mean, he found spots I didn't even know needed attention.  The left side of my hip?  Are you kidding?

I went in knowing I was tight as a drum from my bra strap to the top of my head.  I left knowing there is absolutely hope for loosening up these knots and being able to take a deep breath again without a twinge between my shoulder blades.

Ben's in-home work room is super comfortable and his motions are so fluid and seem so effortless.  I am already looking forward to my next appointment.

Ben Jahn is truly gifted.  I did some damage to my back and 90 minutes with him, I was free of pain for the first time in a week.  In addition to my own massage, I got a gift certificate for my dad, for Father's Day.

I can't say enough great things about Ben.

Wow! This is a massage therapist who is a true master of his art form. Some therapists have a great compassionate presence and deliver lovely, fluid strokes. Others are superbly educated in anatomy, sophisticated vocabulary and various massage modalities.

It's rare to find a therapist who does both things brilliantly -- and it takes a truly skillful blend of the feminine and masculine, a splendid play of yin and yang, to leave you feeling refreshed, open and re-aligned.

Ben is that therapist.  The name of his business is so precise, because you'll find "balance" reigns in every way if you choose an experience (or many) with this practitioner. His earthy presence reminds you of your own ground.  His space is clean and spare, but warm (think heated towels) and bright (gorgeous view of the mountains, light flickering on white walls). He has great taste in music that relaxes but doesn't grate on you, and music suited for massage can very easily go in the wrong direction.

His hands are amazing creatures, and you will benefit from them immensely.  Not content to merely rely on his already rich repertoire of techniques, he frequently takes classes with teachers considered masters in their field. At different moments, he'll offer you succinct tidbits about what he is doing, offering names of muscles or techniques.

Ben is prone to occasional outbursts of joy. He'll step back to exclaim how much he loves his work. Yes, helping you feel better makes him happy.

In today's session, in addition to deep massage on my back and neck, Ben did some powerful abdominal work -- a sensitive area for many people, including myself.  It takes real attention to know when to go deeper and when to retreat, and how to make room for emotions that might emerge during a session. Prepare to leave feeling buoyant and newly awake.

HOLIDAY GIFT ALERT! 90 mins for $60 for first time clients.

I've never reviewed a massage/masseuse before. I've always thought it's a personal thing - I like this one, you like that one, different bodies, different needs.

And then there was Ben Jahn and Balance Bodyworks.

All bodies, all needs, all people: This is your place.

The word on the street is that Ben is *the* guy to see. Time to make that word here on Yelp as well (he's off to a running start!).

His operation is in his home. It's lovely, inviting, comfortable, warm, and clients have their own bathroom. The minute you walk in, you start to relax. It's magic.

But what Ben does isn't magic. It's science that feels like magic. He has a deep, deep, deeply impressive knowledge of joints, bones, muscles, ligaments, pressure points, etc. He tells you what he's doing - like when he "pinned" his fingers into the ribs just below my armpit, and then lifted my arm up and across my body. I felt a relief in my neck & shoulder, like a balloon letting out air. He worked out an almond-sized knot that lives beneath my shoulder blade -  and it didn't just subside for a few days. It's been WEEKS. It's mostly returned at this point, but it's never before been gone for WEEKS!!!

I imagine no two massages are the same with Ben because he pays such incredibly close attention to the pops and pulls, the resistance and the "mmm"s. And for me, he talked options. Do I want to explore deep abdomen massage today (based on some stuff I'd brought up)? I didn't, but I'm eager to go back and see.

As a side note, I'm very into music, and what he had playing during our 90 minutes was beyond belief. As background music it had a nice groovy spa vibe, but as I tuned into it, I was totally amazed at the instruments that were actually voices, the crazy crescendos.... Honestly some of the most fine music of that particular genre I've heard in a while - or ever, perhaps. And Ben was quick to engage when I asked about it. He plays amazing tunes, maybe for his own sake as much as ours. Smart guy.

I could write ten more pages. I honestly can not think of strong enough words to describe how thorough, strong, exhilarating, peaceful....

But here's a strong word: VALUE. I've paid at least 30% more for a much, much lesser experience. I can't imagine seeing any other masseuse now that I've seen Ben.

Go see for yourself. And get a gift card for someone you love. I'm tellin' you, Ben is THE ONE.

Easily the best massage I've ever had! The entire experience from beginning to end was superb, awesome, wonderful, and amazing.

I called last minute and Ben fit me in the same day. The $60 for 90 minute is the best deal out there, and he could easily charge twice that! His house is very clean and calm, and the massage area is a professional setup. He even had water waiting.

Then, there is the actual massage. OH MY GOD, this guy is good! Long fluid motions, and enough time spent on each area of the body. My left shoulder has never had full range of motion and he had very helpful suggestions. Ben is very knowledgable and very professional.

I cannot recommend Ben enough. But you better call soon, because I've recommended him to a lot of people already, so he's gonna be busy.

I've received many massages in my life, and am a massage therapist myself.  Needless to say, I am PICKY, very picky.  I'm always searching, seeking that "perfect" massage, the one I would receive over and over again... Ben is tops on my list.

His home/practice space is pleasant, clean, and inviting.  He immediately put me at ease with his professional yet easygoing demeanor and simple questions about what I was hoping to get from my massage.  His table is one of the most comfortable I have ever been on, with warmer, soft sheets, and a rockin' face cradle (where did he find that?).  The music was exceptional, the temperature perfect.

And most importantly, his touch... wow!  His moves were intuitive, confident, and he hit every sweet spot on my back, neck, shoulders, and hamstrings.  It was clear that he didn't have a pre-prescribed set of moves that he uses on everyone.  He was truly listening to my tissues and was completely present with every breath.  He stayed engaged the whole time, with just a few questions to clear up what he was feeling, and a few guided breathes to ease me into gentle stretches.

And a few extra perks that I haven't received from many non-spa massages.  The hot towels and heated oils were the icing on top of my cake.  Swell.

If you want an intuitive, engaging, and nearly perfect massage, go see Ben!  He won't disappoint.

Ben is a great guy, it's hard to leave without thinking of him as a friend.

He has a 90 minute massage for $60 that makes it easy to recommend him to people.

He listens and is intuitive, and he uses that to give a good balance between listening to what you want and also giving you what he thinks you need.

Ben knows how to give a masahhhhhhhge. Not a masa-a-a-age.

What I mean to say is, he incorporates breath, stretching, and long broad strokes to really get at the deep knots. He has a nice balance of active work and rest, which took me from intense release to total relaxation.

I take issue with some of the practitioners I've had in Seattle who do a nudge-nudge-nudge technique. That tends to bind up my muscles, which leaves me feeling less relaxed. I have to learn to speak up now when trying a new person.

Luckily, Ben got it. We discussed my myriad of issues beforehand, and he even found a couple of surprise spots as well. I came out of there worked-over and sore, but that's exactly what I was looking for. He can definitely go lighter, but I was looking for some serious deep tissue.

I also really liked the space. He works out of his home, which made it feel like I was visiting an old buddy (who was about to perform some miracles on me.) It was homey and comfortable, but clean and professional.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the HEATED oil and warm towels! That was a nice bonus. I highly recommend Ben if you need some serious knot-removal.

There are are massages, and there there are MAH-ssages. Ever since I started seeing Ben for massage, no other therapist quite compares. Seriously. I feel bad for massage therapists that refer their clients to Ben when they're out of town or whatnot because I know they will never go back.

His space is warm, welcoming, and calming, much like Ben himself. I feel comfortable the moment I enter his home. Ben is professional and knowledgeable, always taking the time to discuss my particular needs and preferences before we start our sessions. As a result, every massage is tailored to my needs.

Perhaps the most isolating quality of Balance Bodyworks, and the thing that never cases to amaze me, is Ben's ability to deliver deep pressure without compromising relaxation. No matter how much pain I may be in or how tightly I've wound my muscles, Ben manages to intuitively release deeply buried tension without bringing me out of a state of bliss. That, my friends, is a nearly impossible feat.

P.S. If you're a first time client you get a 90 minute massage for just $60!! Just don't take my spot.

I received a gift certificate from a friend for a 90 minute massage at Balance Bodyworks. Massages are great, but I've always considered them to be a luxury, so it took me almost a year to make an appointment.

If you don't want to read the details, here's the gist of it - the whole experience was great, it felt like a renewal not only for my body but also my mind. I came in stressed out, tense, with all kinds of gibberish racing through my mind, and I left relaxed, my body felt un-constricted (almost weightless) and my mind was calm and clear. So now I'm rethinking the whole thing about it being a luxury, maybe it's a necessity if one wants to stay sane in this fast-paced world. It definitely seems to be a healthier option in the long run than alcohol and other such 'crutches'.

Ok, so here are the details. Ben seems to love what he does, and that's very obvious from the moment you walk into his place. The warmth, the scents, the views, the décor, everything says that this guy lives and breathes 'massage'. He himself is one of those calm, warm, loving people, and you get a sense of that before the massage even begins. He first sat me down, and asked me what I was looking for in a massage. He was very helpful with helping me figure that out, I wasn't sure what I wanted, except for the very general 'I just want to feel less stressed'.

His massage space is great, it's light and warm, the oils he uses smell super nice (I'm very sensitive to smells), the music was very interesting and calming. The massage itself was amazing, it was my first one with him, so he asked a few questions during the massage (in a very soothing voice, mind you), but he was also very intuitive and could feel where I needed more attention, and when to press harder.

This all seems like you'd get that anywhere, but there was something about it that felt different - I think it was the authenticity and sincerity of it. It just doesn't seem like a job for him, it's 'his thing', his thing that he loves doing and it shows.

Ben is a fantastic masseuse and is very professional.  I appreciated his ability to engage in conversation that was natural versus forced like at other places.

He is very knowledgeable and helps to engage a hollistic approach to massage, incorporating breathing techniques to help how effective the massage will be.  His warm towel method, by applying a warm towel to your back prior to deep massage felt wonderful and calming, and nearly put me into a deep sleep!

I liked that he was friendly, but also knew when to be quieter so that we could both focus on doing our best to enjoy and relax.

I will be seeing him again!

Ben is a versatile therapist that adapts to the specific needs of his client. I am a fan of his deep tissue skills and stretching techniques. It felt like he took the time to listen to my preference history from past practitioners and incorporate those techniques into the massage he gave me. The ambiance in the therapy room was soothing & though I was getting a pretty intense massage, the temptation to sleep was ever-present.

His prices are fair and because he is located on a residential street in Queen Anne, parking is a breeze! Don't wait until you're in pain (like I do) to book an appointment with Ben today.

Ben is one of the best healers I've ever had the pleasure to be treated by.  He has great hands, a thorough command of many massage styles, and lots of nice extras like heated towels, table, and lotion.

But what really sets him apart is his remarkable intuitive ability to understand what your body needs and progressively guide you into deeper and deeper levels of relaxation.   This is a rare and masterful quality I've not encountered often...

His introductory special of $60 for 90 minutes is the best deal in town.

I do not go anywhere else for massage. I just don't. Ben is the best at what he does. I really feel the massage is tailored specifically to my needs.  It's seems like a blend of many different techniques that he has mastered over the years and put together for me. He definitely puts his whole energy into every second that he is working. I always feel completely and totally relaxed when I am there.  I have had massages in the past, where I left feeling like they only scratched the surface and left me wanting more. With Ben I am totally cooked when I leave.
    It's the best massage around!

My husband and I gave a massage from Ben to each other for our anniversary, and it was WONDERFUL.  Ben asked questions about my health and he clearly cared about my entire well being.  The atmosphere was very relaxing and he was attentive to my preferences.  He used just the right amount of extra touches, like warm oil and hot towels.  I only wish he could be in two places at once so that we could have had our massages at the same time!  But he gave good recommendations on where to go to relax while I was waiting for my husband.  Now I just need an anniversary every month :)

While I haven't had many massages, I can say that Ben's massage was the most comprehensive that I've gotten. He gave me the chance to explain what I had enjoyed about previous massages. His 90-minute session proved to be the real bonus over other shorter massages, as it let Ben spend just the right amount of time everywhere, and not short change legs, hands or even ears.

Ben had a great demeanor, letting me both chat with him and relax as the moment called for. His studio is in a home, which made me feel like a welcome guest and like I have a new best friend with magical hands.

Ben is an amazing masseur. 90 minutes is really what you need to get the complete body work and it is great! He's really attentive to what your body needs. For example, I like deep massages and my husband likes the lighter touch for tense muscles. My husband doesn't even like massages and he thought Ben was great. Unlike me who will get one whenever I can, but now. If I'm getting a massage, I'll call Ben.

You want a massage that sooths sore muscles, helps ailing back, or just to relax- he can do it. This is really really a treat.

Ben is an excellent LMP who practices on Queen Anne.  I was in an auto collision a few months ago and I used one other LMP, but I feel I get the best results from Ben, who will focus on an area of your choice.  My neck has been really sore from whiplash, and I have had pain in my low and mid-back.  Ben's attention to detail has resulted in successful sessions where the inflammation and pain really decrease, which has had a positive effect on my life and work.  Ben communicates in a calm and comfortable way and wants to know that I'm getting results.  Some sessions have been intense in the beginning, but with the proper breathing and approach that Ben fosters, I have always left feeling great, especially the day after the massage.  He's also a really pleasant guy!

I will be the first to admit that I'm an anal-retentive, detail-oriented she-bastard when it comes to massage. I can be really hard to please because I get annoyed by little stuff. Ben is the first massage therapist who I can recommend without any reservation to one and all. His manner is easygoing and friendly, his workplace/house is classy and relaxing, he doesn't assault my ears with Enya or celtic folk music (his music selection is stuff I'd listen to on my own), he has a completely odorless breath (maybe that's weird to mention, but I've gotten massages from people who are smokers or who suck mints and whenever I smell it it's very distracting. I don't know how he manages it but kudos), he uses this heated oil that feels like heaven, he doesn't ask me a barrage of questions about my life while I'm relaxing, and oh yes did I mention that he gives magnificent massages. I have had difficulty finding someone who will really give me a deep, hard massage the way I want. I asked him to bring the pain and he brought it, and I left feeling better than I have in a very long time. He's like a truffle-pig, searching out those elusive spots that make you feel a zing of delicious pain/pleasure. I've paid twice as much for massages that weren't half as good. Now that I know what a really excellent massage is like, I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else.
