All of the pastries, sandwiches here are pretty tasty... and drinks also
But what I love about this place is on that on the weekdays during the day.. it is wayyyyy less packed than the starbucks down the street, has free wireless, and has such a cool, clean, industrial feel to it that makes you feel like you're an almost hipster with a mac at an indie coffeeshop :)
Anyhoo... I do agree though with some of the other reviews that the people who work here are a tad on the rude side... but it's not like you're coming into contact with them beyond ordering at the counter so it's okay.. -

-ORIGINAL REVIEW:
"Welcome to BakeShop -YOU'RE WELCOME" is what I was expecting the early twenty something girl behind the counter to say when i approached the counter and so RUDELY interrupted her reading trash magazines in order to give her business and money. She proceeded to take my order WITHOUT MAKING EYE CONTACT ONCE, and when payment was expected, like helen keller working at a needle factory, she blindly reached for my credit card missing twice until i literally stuffed it in her hand at which point she looked at it and back down at the magazine.
"Coffee is over there - get your own pastry". Good work little girl, wow, do you ever wonder why you've ended up working behind a woodblock counter making 3.10 an hour plus the tips i don't give you??...do you? Cause I don't think you should. ever. You're kind of terrible.
NOT to mention my second visit where I decided to ask the most GOD AWFUL, ILLOGICAL QUESTION EVER KNOWN TO MAN!!!: "Do you guys have a blueberry muffin? or anything with blueberries in it?" and without hesitation, the brunette version of a baker-Gollum FLIES up from whatever she/it was doing behind the counter and practically shouts; "WE DON'T HAVE BLUEBERRIES ONLY RASPBERRIES! WE NEVER HAVE BLUEBERRIES!" - well holy shit girl, go get your wooden stake and cross and end my blueberry loving life.
Anyway, enough said, YAWN, this place is pretentious and really loves that they're the only "independent" bakery in the area, they're shop is disgustingly dirty, the outdoor seating area is covered in soiled diapers and roadwork cones drenched in dirty fountain water. Spare yourself and give someone else your business cause these asses don't appreciate it.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I previously gave a review stating I had an excellent lunch from Bakeshop. Upon my second visit though the experience went WAY downhill. I ordered a turkey panini to go - nothing fancy, nothing different. When I arrived in my office I discovered that my panini only had cheese and thin apple slices. $8, really???
I was so livid of the waste of my time and money that I plan to not return, again, ever, no matter how much they try to tempt me with Scoutmob deals.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Ben E.
Atlanta, GA
My addiction to the ham and cheese croissant and the apricot-white chocolate scone was recently broken. Those two treats from Bakeshop remain among the best savory snacks I've had anywhere, but a recent visit confirmed a pattern of degenerating service.
The superior baked goods there are, it seems, less precious to the business than their WiFi. Walking in last week to meet a friend for a late lunch, I asked an associate for the WiFi access code, and found myself in a testy post-Socratic dialogue:
Me: "Hi! Would you please tell me your WiFi passcode?"
Her: "Well, are you going to buy something?"
Me: "Yes, lunch, when my friend arrives."
Her: "Well, lunch ends in 10 minutes. Let me know."
It's not exactly Mamet, but perhaps you get the point. Bakeshop is more artisan bakery than friendly cafe, and that is not an unadmirable status. No other place in Midtown can offer pastries and breads of remotely similar quality. Few can match the curmudgeonly attitude too.
Three stars as long as you get your food to go. -
Review from Jacob T.
Atlanta, GA
I was excited at the prospect of a quality local bakery close to my house, but the food I had at Bakeshop was so poor that I felt some urgency about telling people to avoid it.
A friend and I went for breakfast last week and ordered the chicken biscuit and an egg and cheese sandwich, plus coffee drinks. Our food was obviously prepared ahead of time and microwaved. The cheese was hard and waxy, like you would expect from a reheated breakfast biscuit purchased in a gas station. I bit in and found a hard, previously-frozen chicken tender--not even as good as one in a gas station. They charge $6 for previously frozen chicken tenders on a microwaved biscuit! Tasteless, dry, horrible stuff. The egg sandwich was no better, just microwaved egg and cheese thrown on a stale piece of bread. It was inedible.
As we left to go home and eat cereal, a SYSCO truck pulled into the parking lot--you know, the same industrial food supplier that stocks your middle school cafeteria? Now I know where to get more of those chicken tenders.
The latte and the Americano that we ordered came to the table five minutes after the food and tasted watery. I was prepared to like this place but could not find any silver lining. For $20, I felt insulted by the meal. -
Review from Angela M.
Perhaps I've got a sour taste from being stood up by my lunch date, but I just wasn't that impressed. I'd had plenty of time to peruse the printed menu during my wait, and I decided on the half sandwich-half salad combo for $8, choosing the caprese panini (since the curried chicken salad was not an option) and the watermelon panzanella. The ordering process seemed slightly haphazard, with the employees adapting to taking orders wherever they are standing when there are several people in line. The cashier was patient as I dug through the car seat and baby bag to find my phone and claim my scoutmob discount. And when the server brought me my basket with sandwich and salad, she grabbed a fork and napkin for me since she saw that my hands were full with the little one.
Honestly, it reminded me of airport food - an attempt to be upscale that just doesn't taste like much of anything. The most flavorful part of the whole lunch was the olive oil on the panzanella. The watermelon in the salad wasn't that ripe (and this is watermelon season!). The caprese panini wasn't cripsy and all I could really taste was the bread, which I expected to be better at a bakery.
Next time, I'll just stick to the sweets and baked goods.
Also, parking is a challenge. There's a small lot in the back that can be a challenge to get in and out of. It used to be valet, which made sense on account of the tight spaces and turns, but now it's up to you. Fun times.

I went here with a friend last week. Had a Scoutmob coupon and an itch to try something new. Gotta love the 50% deals! Any-who, I had no idea that this place was in the old Goldstar Bakery spot. Not that I was sad because I was never crazy about the place. It just surprised me to see a new name on the building.
The waitstaff seemed a little disorganized when we walked in. My friend asked where we should order and an employee told him "the register." But before we could make it there someone stopped us and asked for our order at the opposite end. The girl at the register was not the friendliest either. But it was Saturday and I was in a good mood and determined to not let snotty folks ruin my day.
My friend ordered the chicken biscuit and I ordered the peach spiced pancakes (I'm a fool for pancakes!). I also picked up some of their baked goods: a croissant, a ham and cheese croissant, and something else that I can't remember (must have not been TOO special, huh?). The croissants were good: buttery and flaky. I could tell the ham and cheese would be amazing if it were warmed up.
I was not impressed with the peach pancakes but my friend was. In fact, he liked my pancakes more than his biscuit and I REALLY liked his biscuit. So we swapped. The chicken biscuit is like a sophisticated Chik-fil-A biscuit. The seasoned chicken strip comes on a bona-fide Southern biscuit (I could taste the butter AND buttermilk). It has a slightly different flavor with the sauce but I liked it. And my caramel latte was really good.
I really liked the decor. They have three large bar height tables that could easily fit 8 or more people. It has a communal feel to it. Very industrial look. Kinda had a NY vibe too it.
My biggest qualm about this place (outside of the notoriously bad parking for this little strip of shops) was the way their utensils were set up. They have folks, knives, and spoons organized in three small silver buckets in the middle of each table. While this is adds to the communal theme and the metal buckets match the decor, I could not help but think "How many people have mistakenly (or not mistakenly) placed their dirty utensils back into the silver buckets?" In fact, the first fork I grabbed did not look the cleanliest. GROSS! -
Review from Helena W.
Ive been here more then a few times.... seeing as I live next door to it. It encourages my laziness on occasion. Ive pretty much halted my efforts to enjoy this place based on several disappointments and the cost.
Ive tried the Curry Chicken Sammich: If eaten alone not too bad but it was served with a VERY hard bread making it inedible. I ended up scrapping off the protein and eating alone. The portion size was much smaller then expected too... I was still hungry. In looking at the menu online, I think they have changed the bread so it may not be as bad as it was before.
The Red Velvet Cake: DRY... very very dry. The cream cheese icing was thin and flavorless.
Quiches: Ive had a potato one that was not so great but the other one that they have was MUCH better.
The Ham and Cheese Croissant: I would have that again. This is probably the one thing I feel is worth having. Just make sure they dont burn it... like they've done with mine.
Muffins: I really enjoyed the banana nut muffin UNTIL one was uncooked in the middle. They were nice enough to give me another but it kinda spoiled the experience when the second one they gave me was raw too.
Cookies: Ive only had the oatmeal cookie and sadly it was so hard it cut my palette. Dont know if it was overcooked or stale but I couldn't finish it.
When I walk by I never say to myself, "maybe I should try the Bakeshop today." I simply go in a look to see if they have any new options. I guess since its so close to home I really want the goods to actually be GOOD! But Ive learned from many previous visits my cravings will not be satisfied and I'll be $20 poorer. -
Review from Kat G.
This place is cute and a great alternative to Starbucks, but don't really expect to get anything you can't find at the mermaid's famous chain, either. I prefer my bagels untoasted (so the cream cheese stays on... duh), but the one I had today (cinnamon raisin) was so stale/crispy it was almost as though it had been toasted.
The coffee was not bad, the table arrangements are cute, and the patio is nicely shaded. It's a great local business and a fine place to get a coffee and pastry. -
Review from Brian K.
Bakeshop is a quaint, contemporary, and seemingly bipolar bakery in the heart of Midtown. I use the term bipolar because my experiences here have been nothing short of a culinary grab bag; everything from "simply extraordinary" to "when is the candid camera crew going to emerge".
Food: Bakeshop offers a diverse array of baked goods, from breakfast pastries to breads and desserts. They also offer an assortment of sandwiches. That being said, the only items that I can recommend without reservation are the breakfast pastries; the white chocolate apricot scone is truly exceptional and the croissants are among the best I've had in Atlanta. However, the desserts are unimaginative and flavorless, while the sandwiches are unmemorable.
Service: One of my major, and frequently recurring, issues with this place is the extremely poor service. The ordering process is not readily apparent (pastries are self-serve, while all made-to-order items are ordered at the check-out counter) and the staff are completely oblivious to the people and circumstances that surround them. They also fail to take your name or provide a number at the time of order, so you essentially have to sit down and pray to baby Jesus that someone will eventually appear with your food sometime in the foreseeable future. On one occasion, I waited for nearly 20 minutes for a sandwich that was apparently "lost in the kitchen"; anyone who has been to Bakeshop before can appreciate what a sick joke such a comment is (see atmosphere below).
Atmosphere: I really like the contemporary atmosphere of Bakeshop. However, it is incredibly cramped; the kitchen, ordering counter, and dining area are all in the same room. It's also imperative to note that the dining tables are communal; coming from the North, I'm still trying to get used to this seemingly invasive concept.
Price: Fairly pricey, but worth it depending on what you order. Again, pastries and some of the breads are a plus, but nothing else is worth the trip, particularly the desserts. A cup of coffee and one pastry will run you around $5. Sandwiches, which come with no sides, are around $10.
Other: Bakeshop occasionally features 3-course evening meal specials throughout the year. I have never been, but the menu offerings are seemingly appealing. Space is limited for these evenings, so advanced reservations are necessary. Also, their regular evening hours are virtually non-existent; they close at 7PM, so after dinner dessert is not an option. However, as can be inferred from the above, that's not necessarily a bad thing. -

I was excited to this place since I love baked goods, but was very disappointed.
FOOD: I got their vanilla cupcake ($2.50) with vanilla icing. Gross! The cupcake was dry and crumbly; it had a dollop of lemon inside; and the icing was tasteless. I guess they don't specialize in baked good....ironic. -

This place is pretty hit-or-miss. The prices are pretty high...but I could overlook that if the food was all really good. Unfortunately, I've had some things here I don't like. Their sandwiches are just OK and their cupcakes are nothing special. Makes me really miss Chocolate Pink (RIP)!
Something I do like, though, are their scones. The apricot and white chocolate scone is very delicious. -

Yay Bake Shop, LOVE this place, fresh baked goods taste so yummy so i was so happy to see this place in my neighborhood... breakfast pastries, quiche, croissants, they have it and taste sooooooooo gooooooood!!!!
Oh YEA they bake their on breads too, so its perfect if you want something different from the store brand breads. Breakfast their is a must pancakes, Breakfast sandwich worth going and trying if you haven't already :) -

So like others have mentioned this place is hit or miss. What you can count on to be good is the ham and gruyere cheese croissant and the scone. An inconsistency is the plain croissant is dry, crumbly, and not good. Danishes also had dry pastry despite good filling. My latte was done right. I have not extended beyond breakfast here.
The ambiance of the shop is nice. Butcher block tables and modern decor. The pastries are self served on open selves with tong and bags near the register. I am not sure about this... it kinda grosses me out.
It will do in pinch I guess. I only went back because of Scout Mob. -

Came in here to get some goodies for a coworker's birthday. Lunch crowd was milling about, but I was able to get to the counter pretty easily, only to realize they were out of chocolate chip cookies! I figured they would have more, but no. Was just told that she had recently wrapped up 15 and they were gone. Surely they had made more than 15 chocolate chip cookies for lunch time! I settled on a brownie and an oatmeal raisin cookie. We ended up splitting them at the office, only to find out that they hadn't been baked! It appeared as if they had from the outside, but were NOT COOKED on the inside! Both were not good. Don't get me wrong, I like some soft and gooey cookies, but this was raw batter. Will never be going back here.
Bottom line: Change the name to UNbaked Shop. -

I like that their large tables encourage strangers to sit together. Unless your table companions are too busy playing Bejeweled on their iPads, you can generally chitchat with strangers or catch up with Midtown acquaintances.
The chocolate croissant was just OK-- very skimpy with the chocolate and while it was nice and dark chocolate, it felt chalky and dry. The ones at DeKalb Farmer's Market are much better for a fraction of the cost.
The butter croissants are a little better-- flaky, buttery. Small for the price. The ham and gruyere croissant was tasty too, but again, cheap on the filling.
The sandwiches look good and the mozzarella and brie grilled cheese was pretty tasty. Fresh crispy bread and melty cheese can never go wrong.
The baguette is very good and you can dress it up with their butter, jam, and Nutella. However, I do wonder how sanitary those Nutella jars are. I'm sure there are double dippers or people who contaminate it with a knife they used for butter. So far I haven't heard of people getting sick.
Their coffee is very good and they keep making a fresh batch when it's busy. Overall a nice place for weekend breakfast if you don't mind the marked up price to subsidize the high rent. Or you could just wait for a Scoutmob deal (they've had 2 so far). -

Ok ok, it's a little pricier than Starbucks, but the food is top notch. I have never had a drink or pastry here that I didn't think was delicious. My daughter and I come here constantly and really appreciate the unique experience.
Hint: Take advantage of Scout Mob or Midtown Alliance and you'll find the prices a little more agreeable.
Oh, and they don't put it on their main menu, but ask about the New York Breakfast, if you're a salmon fan it's perfect. -

I walked over to Bakeshop last weekend for some breakfast. I think the price point for their desserts is on the high side, so try it out while the Scoutmob coupon is still in effect (50% off). They have tons of pastries and freshly baked breads that all sounded delicious. The interior is contemporary and hip with large communal tables inside and small tables outside.
I came for the lemon ricotta pancakes and at the last minute switched to the fried chicken biscuit. This was a little on the small side for me, but it was delicious. The biscuit was super fluffy and I loved the spicy kick of the chipotle mayo. They even threw a few sundried tomatoes in the mayo. The chicken was juicy inside and the cheese was actually melted, which I find more and more often restaurants forget to do. My only complaint would be the skin on fried chicken could've been a little crispier. It would've been nice to have more of a crunch for some texture in an otherwise soft sandwich. My friend got a fried egg BLT, but for some reason it doesn't come with T (tomatoes). Overall, I was pleased with my meal and I definitely will be coming back to try more -- especially the lemon ricotta pancakes and that ham & gruyere croissant. -

I was a little confused when I walked in on a Saturday morning. But finally, I figured out that it's self service. Grab a pastry, move to the register, order coffee drinks, pay, sit and eat. I never did figure out where one would procure jam, so I put a generous helping of the chocolate hazelnut spread that was sitting on the table all over my really fantastic croissant.
I think I was expecting something slightly different, and I think it's one of those places I will like more as I feel more confident about the ordering process and figure out what's on the menu - I felt rushed by the crowd and a little confused and in the way. But I've caught myself thinking about that croissant ever since my visit. -

Came in again for lunch, and was re-disappointed. I had the Turkey, Apple and Brie sandwich ($8). It came with no side, and the size of the sandwich was shockingly small. Plus the two employees seemed to be having a spat as my party ordered our food.

I like the interior -a balanced combination of contemporary minimalism and a European bakery. We ordered some pastries to take home with us and a slice of cheesecake, which we ate there.
I like how the tables are long so that everyone shares tables. I also like the metal utensils that are in the middle of the table but sometimes I'm a little skeptical as to how clean they are. I love how there's free self serve water and self serve coffee. I definitely have to come here next time I want to study.
The almond butter croissant was great -moist, fresh and buttery. The chocolate croissant -not so much. It was a little stale, hard, and lacking chocolate. I probably shouldn't have grabbed it after seeing that no one had taken any. Note to self: only grab the pastries that seem to be constantly replaced.
The cheesecake, on the other hand, was divine. I think we got a chocolate cheesecake and in my opinion, it's significantly better than Cheesecake factory. The crust is the perfect texture and the cheesecake is creamy without being overly sweet. I didn't feel like I was dying for milk afterwards.
I definitely want to make it back! -

Wow. I mean, just horribly, awfully wow. I ordered the curry chicken salad sandwich and asked if I could have something other than a croissant. The rude gal had to check with her boss (really). I also ordered a loaf of bread. When she totaled it all up, it wasn't correct, so I asked if she had included the loaf of bread. She said no and recalculated. When she brought out my sammy, she said that she hadn't charged me for a loaf of bread but rather charged me more than a dollar to put the chicken salad on plain bread, "because it's more expensive." Than a croissant? Really? You mean more expensive than a butter-laden baked good as opposed to the flour and water I actually got? So, I left without paying more for a loaf of bread, but with an awful sandwich. So the food? I paid $9.50 for a mediocre chicken salad of a paltry amount on flavorless "ciabatta" bread. With something they called salad, which was really just bad, wilted lettuce with some oil on it.
I will not be back and encourage you not to go and waste your hard-earned cash on this place. -

I thought Bakeshop was pretty good.
Probably one of the better croissants I have had buttery, moist and with good flavor.
The cheesecake chocolate brownie was to die for. Super chocolatey with a crisp yet moist cheesecake crust on top. It definitely wasn't grainy or taste stale at all. I liked it so much I got two. And then finished both. There. On the spot. Yeah I'm crazy.
The banana nut muffin.... not so much. It not only exploded/fell apart the instant I pealed the wrapper back, it didn't really taste like anything at all.
The triple chocolate pistachio cookie was pretty good, though for 2 dollars it absolutely gets dominated by Highland Bakery's Chocolate brownie cookie and Murphy's 1 dollar double chocolate chip cookie.
So all in all, come here, get a croissant, sit at the big table, read a newspaper and people watch. Get the chocolate cheesecake muffin as well, but skip the banana nut.Listed in: Breakfast/Bunch Places

You know it's a damn shame when you can't even give your cupcakes away. I'm not even talking about sex, although I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about.
I don't know if this is a proper explanation, but all I can say is I'm glad I got 50% off with Scoutmob. Many of the other reviews had to do with poor service. I actually had a fantastic customer service experience. My sadness came from the lackluster cupcakes.
I bit into one and it tasted like they made it four days ago. That probably wasn't the case. I just don't know how else to describe it. I took two home and I gave one to a friend... he gave half to another friend... and they both returned it to me. That's just awful.
Also, I bought some brown stuff in a jar. It was described as "pudding meets creme brule." Um, no. Maybe chocolate mousse. I still have half of it in my refrigerator.

Review from Addy C.
I learned today that if a restaurant calls itself Bakeshop then maybe I should just stick to ordering their baked goods. Instead I tried their Chicken Salad Melt Sandwich and a disappointing Pistachio Pot de Creme for dessert.
The last time I tried Bakeshop was part of the SugarComa Tour in January 2010, and Bakeshop's Butterscotch Pot de Creme ranked as my most favorite and most memorable dessert on the tour ... so yes, I probably had high expectations for today's visit.
i came here for lunch, and got the Chicken Salad Melt based on the staff's recommendation. The description sounded good: roasted chicken, greens, candied pecans, and swiss cheese on marble rye bread. However there were no greens or candied pecans, and the chicken tasted a little funny. In fact, I opened my sandwich several times just to inspect and see if maybe the greens & pecans were very finely chopped or something. But no ... I did find some chopped grapes though. But rather than bash them in a review, I decided I should let them know so they could fix the problem so that others would get the correct sandwich. I told the person, it looked like she went to the kitchen, and then that was it. I'm just glad I had a Scoutmob so I didn't have to pay full-price for the $8 sandwich. FYI - their lunch menu has 7 different sandwiches, 1 salad, and 1 soup.
I also didn't care for the Pistachio Pot de Creme. I loved the butterscotch version, I love pistachios, so it seemed a natural choice to try their pistachio version. However it just didn't woo me and I couldn't taste any pistachio flavoring at all ... boo :( Again, glad I didn't pay the $4 full-price.
On the other hand, the croissants smelled really good and I'm thinking if I were to come back, I'd probably just stick to ordering their croissants. -

On my first visit to Bakeshop earlier this year I ordered chocolate almond croissants, a cheese danish, and a slice of red velvet cake. Everything was delicious. When I returned in the fall the croissants and a chocolate muffin I ordered were burnt. However, the lemon ricotta pancakes were delicious. The lemon flavor was strong but not overwhelming.

We walked over for breakfast this morning...it was our first time. It was crowded which I always think is a good sign :). The staff was courteous. We had bagels and chocolate croissants. The croissant was excellent, the bagel was good...I think I am spoiled by NYC bagels though.
I think it would be nice if they had regular napkins on the tables instead of the roll of industrial brown paper towels.
The one negative was the coffee containers both bring empty we had to wait in line again to let the staff know that both coffees were empty. -

All in all this is a very cool spot, and somewhere I will definitely frequent more often... For my next adventure I intend to check out the Sunday Brunch offering...

Two stars for just being able to hang on at this location...I understand that this is a tough draw here.
I can't comment on the food. Each time I've come here, either I was invisible or I was a bad smell that turned up the counter guy's nose...sorry, but I can't spend my $ in a place that holds my business in such disdain no matter how good everyone else says it is. The ladies at the cake counter in Publix are friendlier, and don't treat you like shoe-bottom-scrapings...and the eye rollage you get when using the Scoutmob coupon is almost comical. -

I love this place, and not just because it's a short walk from where I live. I've been here twice now and both experiences have been great. I highly recommend the apricot white chocolate chip pecan scone-it's delicious, huge and will fill you up for most of the day, but it's a bargain for only $4. I just wish I would have asked this to warm it up for me-I bet it would have been ever better. My husband has ordered several sandwiches there and really enjoyed them. The dining style is so fun an unique-community style seating and rustic long tables and aluminum high chairs. The fact that they serve Nutella on all the tables as a condiment-amazing!

They only get stars because their croissants kick ass. I especially like the ham and gruyere croissant. Their cookies are good, too. These are the only things I've tried here.
My gripe with them is that (1) the shop layout is confusing and (2) the employees here seem like the unfriendliest people ever. Those in for the grab-and-go items never know where the line starts and those wanting to order never know where to stand or what to do after ordering. And I know you're in Midtown, but would it kill ya to smile or make your customers feel like you want them to be there? -

Sunday morning rolls around again and finds the Man sitting on the couch swearing at his new XBox game, and my stomach swearing at me for ignoring it. So I peruse my scoutmob app to see what we haven't tried yet. I remember during the recent snowmageddon that the Bake Shop was twittering their heads off about being open, so I decided I'd trek over the interstate to get a take away order. Upon walking in I was not surprised at all to see the place packed to the gills.
I walk up to the counter and I'm instantly greeted by a sweet guy who is helpful with suggestions and personal preferences. I decide on two sammiches; the club and the grilled cheese with bacon along with a bowl of the tomato bisque and the chili, each. While I'm waiting on my order I am tempted by all the lovely pastries that line the counter and I'm overwhelmed by my coveting desire to obtain several of the danishes and a whole French baguette. When I eagerly step up to the counter with my treasures I inform the girl at the register I'd like to use my scoutmob coupon. She smiles and says 'sure,' but promptly forgets to apply it to my total as she slides my credit card through the reader. Instead of being miffed, though, I am too pleased with all of my noms and tell her I'll use it next time. Soon my take away order comes and I head home with my bounty.
Now this is where a 3 star rating could have been an easy 4.5. The food is really good, save two issues. Each sammich was burned when it was prepared: the club only slightly less so than the completely charred grilled cheese. What has added insult to injury, though, is it seems instead of informing me of this issue and/or simply making new sammiches (which it didn't take that long to make the first two) who ever packed the food into the boxes decided to turn the burned sides down to hide the error. *tsk tsk* Bad form, guys. REALLY bad form! The soups are delicious, however-- the man's only complaint being the chili seemed 'thin'.
I'll give these guys a try again, sure. Next time, though, I'll make sure my scoutmob is used and I'll eat in house in order to keep a tighter rein on the amount of char applied to my meal. On a side note: it would be nice for Mr Jonathan, the chef and owner, to keep a few nice locally sourced cheeses and spreads on hand to be sold along side the 8 or so breads they have available. -

We went here for dinner the other night. Scoutmob had a new coupon out so why not? I had a flourless choco cake slice and my buddy had a cupcake. Both were accompanied by a hot beverage. Yes, this was dinner, don't judge.
So we decided to split each and WOW! They were delicious! I think the frosting on the cupcake is made with mist. My friend said unicorn urine but then we agreed that maybe it was flavorless mint. It was super light and cool, like the feeling mint gives, but the taste is so light and airy! The cupcake itself was good. I'm kind of over the cupcake fad but this one worked! It was think and delicious and it was like they shoved a finger down in it to make room for more frosting! GENIUS!
The cake- this too had whatever magical ingredient in it. The wind whipped through my hair and it was like an epiphany! YUM! More exclamation points!!!!!!! We almost couldn't finish the sweets but it was our own fault for having sweet chocolatey drinks WITH our meals.
Since I am not 4 starring this place, let me talk about the downside...So they have this counter. It is COVERED with yummy looking baked goods. But nothing is covered. Zuh? I don't think that is serve-safe as there is no sneeze guard but you won't die. I just think things will get stale. I'm no Frenchie so I don't care if bakeries all over France are like this. I'm not in France and I have never seen items so close to a 3 year old's licking range.
I did not check out the bread but I bet it is good. They also have Nutella on the table! This place is not cheap but if you want cheap go to publix. -

Pretty much everything I've had at Bakeshop has been delicious, from ham and cheese croissants to cookies to muffins to sandwiches to loaves of bread. Good coffee, too. A tad on the pricey side. Best thing in the history of the world might have been the unlimited pancake breakfast after the Peachtree Road Race last year. Watching the throngs file up 8th St. back to MARTA for two hours after I finished while scarfing down fruit topped pancakes was awesome. I hope they make that a tradition.
I get the impression, though, that they're more interested in their wholesale business than the storefront. The coffee station doesn't always get all the attention it needs (cleaning, refreshing, etc..) The ordering process can be a little disorganized (and they keep changing things around which is annoying for those of us who fear change.) All in all, though, I am glad Bakeshop lives across the street from me. -

There are a few things that you may want to know about Bakeshop, some good and some maybe not so good (depending upon your specific needs)
1. Everything's available for take-out, including a great selection of breads. Every bread that I've tried there is good, but the croissants sometimes seem to be a bit burned, sometimes there are large size differences between some of the products. While this may be an indicator that everything is made locally and not commercially processed, it also is a detractor if you are looking for consistency. Watch out, or you may get the burned one. Good news is that you can pick it yourself (hopefully using the tongs provided) and bag it up.
2. The prices are kind of high for the mixed baked goods (croissants, danishes, etc) and the coffee is bleeding expensive! Of course, it's unlimited, serve-yourself-style in the bakery, so I suppose if you are really in the mood .... If you are taking the coffee to go, it's definitely high for brewed coffee.
3. The seating on long bench-tables is great - very communal, relatively friendly and a nice way to enjoy a small meal. There isn't any lingering, though - no reading of a newspaper, book, or the like. I don't even recall any overhead music.
4. Some of the people who frequent Bakeshop are kind of sketchy and there are no protective covers over the food - it's all right out in the open. I can't personally say I've seen someone cough or touch the food with their hands, but I can't imagine how it doesn't occur.
5. Communal dinners upcoming! Take a look at the fliers within the store for more details. Sounds intriguing.
