I would have to say. I prefer this place than Paris Baguette. Why? There's not a huge line and the selection is as good. Well most of all they have mochi bread. MOCHI in bread. *dies* I had to stop myself from buying the whole store. There were so many different breads like the Mugwort mochi bread and castellas. Everything I bought today was delicious.

The mugwort mochi bread is green, but don't let that scare you. There's mochi and red beans strewn about. The mochi bread itself tastes eggy, but I like it. It's so soft and just kind of melts in your mouth. The third bread...I forgot what it was called, but started with an "s" and has a cookie crumbly top which kind of tastes like it has hints of peanut. That was soft and crunchy and perfectly dances with all my senses.

Overall I will come back and try more delicious bread!

I love Asian bakeries!  The pastries are less sweet than those sold at non-Asian bakeries.  The dough more spongy rather than dense.  The cream more light versus heavy.  I personally think you can get away with eating 3 items from asian bakeries for the same amount of calories you will find in one pastry elsewhere.  That's just my opinion:)

Baker's Village is awesome!  I came in here yesterday with my boyfriend in the afternoon after spending the day exploring the Peninsula.  We were at Hankook Supermarket earlier where I wanted to pick up some Korean pastries.  He told me we should check out this place instead.  Boy was I glad he took us here.  I was so excited when I walked in and saw so many yummy offerings!  The only drawback was that the pastries were labeled only in Korean, without any English translation to describe what were inside these delicious looking pastries and buns.

Luckily, the adorable cashier was able to help.  I asked her what her favorite item was in the entire bakery and she grabbed me a green spongecake with a layer of cream in between.  She spoke little English and my boyfriend's Korean needed polishing, so I didn't quite understand what my pastry was exactly, but it was very good.  My boyfriend picked up his usual favorite.  Fluffy bread filled with sweet cream.  He picked up two to be exact.  It was seriously to-die-for.

I can't wait to come back to try other varieties.  Hopefully next time their frappuccino machine is up and running because according to my boyfriend, it's better than Starbuck's!

Came here for dessert after lunch and had a custard bun. It was pretty good. The service was great as the minimum purchase for non-cash transactions are $10. My total was under $10, but the cashier allowed me to use my credit card. Thanks! WIll be back again for dessert when I'm around the area.

So far I've tried the chocolate cookie sandwiched with a chocolate filling that was dry and not very chocolatey, and a bun sandwiched with what I think might have been Mocha, and unfortunately, it too was dry and had the texture of gritty Cornbread.  Kinda disappointing.

This place has all the different types of Korean breads and pastries you want! Dangerous. And the prices are so cheap you end up walking out with a loaded bag. My fiance and I walked in wanting to get a couple of things and walked out with a whole bag full.

I stopped by after lunch to pick up some pastries for the office.  I got the red bean filled bun which I thought was a little too sweet.  I also got a box of flat almond cookies.  The almond cookies were delicious.  It was crispy, aromatic, and lightly sweetened.

The lady in the front seemed a little confused when I threw in another pastry that was $1.75.  She was holding my change from the previous transaction, so I pulled the change from her hands and left her $2.  I told her to give me a quarter back.  Eventually, she got it and threw in 2 other buns.  Sweet!

This is the standalone Baker's Village store, not to be confused with the one located inside the Hankook Supermarket  just down the street.  They offer the same stuff in both locations, but this one has seating.  Definitely a bonus for when they serve patbingsoo, when it's in season.

I love Baker's Village.  But if you don't love Korean bakeries/baked goods, you may not love this place.  Korean baked goods are mildly sweet, and I can't think of a single thing that is strongly sweet like American frosting/icing.  However, I think the taste will please most palates, even if you're not familiar with Korean baked goods.

Like Korean food in the U.S., Korean baked goods are not that cheap.  It's not super expensive, but if you're used to say Vietnamese prices, it might seem a tad pricey to you.

The staff is always very nice, even if a bit shy (probably due to limited English skills).

This place isn't so hard to find which is great for people like me who get lost in her own hometown neighborhood because she has no sense of direction.  NO JOKE.

The style of cakes here is similar to Aki Bakery.  They're moist, spongelike and very light.  It's my guilty pleasure without the guilty part!

My recent visits here are mainly for their green tea cake.  I've bought them for a few friends as a birthfday gift and there are lots of great feedback!  I think they're popular because it's very rare to find another bakery that sells green tea cake!  So if you've got an event coming up, you definitely need to give this a try.

Their sliced cakes/bread are also delicious!  How do I know this?  Because I've been here twice now, and with each time, the person at the register have given me free pastries.  Now this is the part where I tell you why I took off a star even though I really want to give them 5 stars....

The first time I bought the cake, the guy charged me $25 bucks.  I couldn't really question him because there are no prices listed.  However, I pulled the Asian trick and said, "Are you sure?  My friend paid less last time...."  That's when he gave me free pastries and said "it's on the house."  He was a sweet nice old Korean man so I took it with a grain of salt and left happily on my way out because I love getting free stuff!

Anywho, I recently came back to this bakery this weekend, and tell me WHY the old sweet Korean lady at the register charged me $27 bucks this time for the same Green tea cake?  I questioned the inconsistency in prices and whether she understood English or not, she just said "$27."  So I thought, "what the heck and handed her a $100 bill."  She gives me back the wrong change and then gives me free pastries for her mistake.  Once again, I'm thinking "oh! free stuff! I'll take it!"

So beware for those who do NOT speak Korean who visit this place because prices may change unexpectedly.  However, the taste of the cakes are so good that the $2 difference you can just consider as tip and tax.

I'm definitely coming back because it's THAT good.

I think I've grown addicted to this place.  I haven't sampled EVERYTHING yet (that's really how much Baker's Village offers!) but everything so far tastes delicious, arggh!! I have to be careful or I'd end up replacing meals...

My favorites are the lightly buttered, crunchy-topped Soboro bread, strawberry-cream filled sandwich, and the thin almond cookies.  Mhmm!!

The goods in Baker's Village are mostly simple and the warm butter flavor really plays out, if a flavor like fruit or chocolate or nut is included, it's there to enhance the flavor, unlike American bakeries.  Sweet and simple!

As for the service, you feel just at home.  The staff isn't condescending a bit, and if you don't know what an item is, they'll tell you up front.  (:

The owner of this place is so sweet! She gave me a free bun after I made my purchase. All the breads here are super tasty! All that butter makes the world go round! My favorite are the garlic bread sticks which are both sweet and salty with a heaping of garlic. Yum! Their cream filled breads are a bit too much for me but the round bread stuffed with red bean was truly a hit!

    This bakery is extremely cute!

Loved the door and the homey feel to the place :]

I've been waiting to try this place for weeks and finally had the opportunity to do so. I arrived pretty late like around 8:30pm so alot of things were gone already.
Quick tip-Baker's Village is next to a thrift store if you can't find it and its across from Kohl's.
They also sell their bread at supermarkets like Hankook and at Super pyo (or Kyo sorry don't remember)

On to the review the owner (im guessing) is super nice and greeted us as we walked in. I seriously want to grab everything when I go to a bakery and I was contemplating which bread to get since their were so many.

I decided on a crunchy bread, green tea roll cake, and tapioca bread.

I tried their mochi bread and cream cheese filling bread (its the only white powdered bread) and they are absolutely delicious

I tried the tapioca bread and yeah it was okay, it tasted like an outer covering of a cream puff with no filling inside.

Green Tea roll cake is okay, the taste is good but its dense and dry, kind of breaks apart easily

The crunchy bread I was talking about was okay too, I kind of wished it was more bread like though and I wish it had more of a crunch on the top, the middle has some kind of strawberry jam.

I think I'll just stick to what I usually get.

So the reason for my four stars was because I have tried their breads before and the owner was super nice, she even gave us two extra pastries for free as we left :D

This place is DANGEROUS! Watch out! You might think that you're going in and walking out with just a bun and coffee but you'll end up getting a bag full of pastries. Its the darn samples! it gets you every time! You just can't have a little, you have to have the whole bun. What also makes it hard to resist is that the buns are reasonably priced and the owner likes to give freebies sometimes. Very very very nice lady.

This place is seriously dangerous. Really DANGEROUS.

Here's why: I walk in mumbling, "just one...just one treat"...look around...pick up my favorite CUSTARD CREAM BUN...look around...say to myself "what the heck, I can eat some more tomorrow" and pick up a few more pastries like CHOCO BUN and GREEN BEAN bun...look around...hurry back to the entrance to grab a basket 'cause my hands are full...I say to myself, "Oh, I should get some for my husband, too" and pick up some more pastries like SWEET BUN and RED BEAN BUN...and so more. I go home and by the end of the day, they're gone. AAAAAALL GONE.

What I like about the buns at Baker's Village is the FILLINGS. They're nice and creamy without being too sweet and overwhelming. I am not too crazy about the bun/bread itself, though. It's buttery, but not as chewy and soft as I like it to be.

I haven't had a chance to try their cakes yet. They're certainly presentable, and based on the yumminess of other pastries, I'm sure they're tasty.

The prices are really reasonable, less than $2 each. I sometimes wish they could raise them so that I will think twice before buying so many!

I went here years ago, after a decent meal at Myung Dong Tofu Cabin Restaurant (I can't resist going to Asian bakeries).  I remember thinking it was just okay at the time.  I still think it's decent but clearly a step below Paris Baguette.  I tried the following:

    * Red bean bun (flat, round, $1.25).  This soft, wheat baked bun was filled with a smooth sweet red bean paste.  The paste didn't have enough red bean flavor.

    * Red bean bun (oblong, flat, $1.25).  Also a baked bun made but this one had chunky sweet red bean paste.  The red bean flavor was stronger but the beans were too hard. I don't think anyone would like such hard beans.

    * Red bean manchu.  They look like round little treats with a thinner, brown pastry shell that come in a pack of four.  The exterior was bland and dry.  Red bean paste didn't have enough red bean flavor.  I threw some of these away.

    * Chocolate cake roll slice:  The cake was nice and fluffy and the whipped cream was fine but there was just a tiny bit of cream filling.  I don't like to have too much cream filling but the ratio was just off for me.

    * Sandwich with ham and a slice of pasteurized cheese with ketchup.  I didn't know what I was getting and I wanted to get something savory.  The bread was quite sweet.  This was weird and I wouldn't get it again.

They certainly have many choices, mainly sweet, from bags of small cookies to full size cakes, castella cake, different types of manchu, pound cake, mochi, palmiers, loaves of bread, croquettes, sweet rice donuts, shaved ice, tea, smoothies and coffee.  The ambiance is homey and grandmotherly.  Pick up a wicker tray and select your wrapped treats.

They kept speaking to me in Korean even though I didn't understand what they were saying. I was scribbling in my notepad (I take notes for my reviews) and they were suspicious.  I thought they were going to ask me to leave the shop (I had a Tasty Tapioca flashback).

I've been going here for over a decade, since it first opened. The owners of this bakery are the parents of a kid I tortured in church/elementary school (yet they loved me because they thought I was smart- lol Korean parents) so I always got free bread every time I came here with my mom.

I've been to many Korean bakeries. I can't refuse delicious carbs. All over Seoul, Los Angeles, Boston, New York and New Jersey. Only one compares to this one, and that is a small bakery located across from Ewha University in Shinchon, Seoul.

All the bread is amazing here. Their buttercream (I've been trying to steal that recipe for a decade!) is the most delicious thing you will ever taste in your life. Sandwiched between two pieces of fresh cream bread, it may sound weird but it is the most satisfying, not overly-sweet treat you can get. The rollcakes are colorful and tasty, the tofu chips DIVINE, the gombo bbangs UNMATCHABLE (perfectly flaky on top with plenty of the crumbly bits to munch on after you're done with the bbang). I've bought countless birthday cakes here, endless loaves of the buttercream-filled delight, and dozens of croquettes and dduk bbangs. I really, truly love everything here, and I was quite sad when they briefly closed the main bakery down for remodeling a few years backs.

They've expanded and have an extra location at Koreana Plaza (formerly Pusan Market) in Oakland for all the Berkeley kids in need of good Korean bread. The original sahjangs stop by often to make sure the bread is up to par, but nothing tops buying from the original.

Though the prices are still dirt cheap, I'm sad that I can no longer buy my beloved buttercream loaves for $3.50. They're the reason I was fat in high school.

    Matt Choi, if you're reading this, I'm sorry I stole your eraser... okay, pencilbox, lied about it and made you cry in 4th grade. It wasn't my idea. If it's any consolation, I probably paid for your college education through all my purchases here. ^^;

THIS REVIEW IS ONLY VALID, GIVEN THAT OWNERSHIP DIDN'T CHANGE SINCE SEPTEMBER 2004.

My boyfriend bought a cake from them for my birthday in September 2004 because I like one of their cake design.  It was for just the two of us, so he wanted to order the smallest size cake, which is the 6" cake, but the woman (owner?) told him that the 6" cake wouldn't fit all the writings (Happy Birthday Adrie), and recommended him to get the 8" cake instead... so my boyfriend ordered the 8" cake and told her the pick up date and he wanted a fresh baked cake...

Problem # 1:  When he went to pick up, he saw a 6" cake next to my cake in the fridge.  That cake was also for a birthday because it says happy birthday and with a name on it.  So basically that woman lied to my boyfriend in getting the bigger cake.  But he didn't fuss about it since it's the design I like anyway...

Problem # 2:  THE CAKE WAS NOT FRESH!!!  Normal would be to bake the cake and allow it to be completely cool before frosting.  Baking it the day before would be plenty of time for the cake to cool off, am I wrong?  Maybe the cake was superhot, so baked it 2 days before maybe?  The cake tasted like a week old.  The strawberries in the middle layer looked dried, and the cake was not very spongy.   We suspect that they couldn't sell that cake and didn't want to waste it, and since we ordered the same size cake so we ended up with that days old cake.

I still like the design of the cake, but the cake was not edible.  We took pictures with it but tossed it after our first bite.  I don't remember if my boyfriend called them to reason with them or not, but we've decided we will never have anything to do with them again.  There are plenty of good bakeries out there, why should I do business with people with bad conducts!!!

I always come here after a meal at Myung Dong Tofu Cabin. And they always give me free stuff here because I always load up like a starved child here.

Their pastries are delicious--never too sweet, never bland, and always affordable. I don't remember their names, but if it's got chocolate or cream in it, I've probably tried it, and I've probably thought it was damn good, too.

I've yet to try their drinks, but the aroma just fills the place so wonderfully that I don't doubt their deliciousness at all. I really want to try their cakes one day. They just look so nice.

We came here today after lunch at SGD Tofu House.  Upon entering, I was immediately hit with the sweet smell of pastries.  Not the sticky, suffocating stench, but the intoxicating, soporific kind.

This is as good if not better than any Korean bakery in LA KoreaTown.  The place was huge and pretty busy for a Friday lunchtime.  They were even given out free samples!  Every single Korean snack I've ever had in my life was on display; I was literally a kid in a candy store.

I love that I live within 5 miles of this place.  I love that there is a large Korean community in Santa Clara.  Or "Santa Clera" as it says on their business card.  I love the fob!!!

Finally, I found a Korean bakery worth visiting!  The owner is super friendly and sweet.  Although she had difficulty describing what was inside the various buns and pastries, she was introduced me to a treats by giving me a sample of some delicious bread with sticky rice inside and a free bun!  In addition to the red bean and custard buns from most Chinese bakeries, you'll find a different selection with green pea, honey and peanut, and all sorts of other delicious fillings.  Moreover, the pastries and buns have a more decorative shape and style than the Chinese kind.  For example, you can buy a cute pair of banana cakes, grean pea flower buns, potato buns, and raisin and cinnamon swirl twists.

Since it's located in a strip mall, there is ample parking in the front.  Just check the hours to make sure it's open.

Cool Korean bakery in a rather odd location.

After going to Myong Dong's Tofu Cabin, decided to check out this random bakery next door and found a nice-looking bakery with a good selection of Korean baked goods - buns with all diff kinds of fillings, cookies, Korean donuts, and cakes.

Everything looked fresh as they were bringing new fresh-baked items out to be wrapped individually. The staff was nice when I asked what were some of the items.  Will come back and try some of the different baked goods - all I tried was the almond cookie sticks which were tasty.

You would never expect to find such a cool bakery in a strip mall off a side street from El Camino in between the Salvation Army store and the Myong Dong Tofu Cabin restaurant.

Bottom line: If you are looking for a cool Korean bakery or want to try something different, Baker's Village is a place worth checking out for their Korean baked goods.

Probably the best Korean bakery in town.  They also have a stall inside the Hankook Market.

For most Asians (Koreans included), the European bakery tends to make things excessively sweet.  For example, I know a lot of Koreans (living in Korea) that cannot finish a Snicker in one sitting.

Things I like here:  "chapsal" donuts, potato croquet, butter-cream bread (?) and, during the summer, "patbingsu" (ice shavings with sweet red bean paste).

I think they are doing a renovation these days, so go to the stall inside the Hankook Market on El Camino Real nearby.

It's kind of sad because this place used to do so well, until the high and mighty Paris Baguette came along.  I used to come here all the time because it was right next to Myong Dong Tofu Cabin.  The bread is pretty good but I guess it's not as buttery and light as Paris.  It's a small, but cute cafe where you can go with another friend to chit chat over bread and coffee.  I remember their pat bing soo beinging good - but that was waaaay long ago (maybe 2years ago?)

I think their prices aren't as expensive as Paris, but it's not much of a difference.  If you want to go to a more quiet bakery, I would definitely suggest this place.

No meal in Santa Clara is complete without a dessert of pat-bingsoo (red bean shaved ice with fruits) and a fluffy custard-filled pastry at Baker's Village. The refreshing, milky pat-bingsoo is always a welcome complement to the spicy ethnic foods I eat before coming here. Don't forget to cart a bunch of their breads and pastries home - even their day-old treats are pillowy soft and fresh tasting. Some of my other favorites are the chocolate cream bread, chestnut bread, and castella. Their whipped cream frosted cakes are also fantastic: elegantly decorated, adorned with fresh fruits, and not overwhelmingly sweet.

I can't argue against the convenience and the appeal of bustling Paris Baguette down the street: as a franchise that started in South Korea, being there reminds me of urban life in the motherland. But Baker's Village offers a quaint alternative to those who want to get away from the buzz of El Camino and opt for a quieter, more traditional family-run Korean bakery.

As a slight germophobe, I also appreciate that all the breads and pastries are pre-wrapped at Baker's Village, unlike at Paris Baguette, where the naked breads are in bins until you fish them out with tongs and put them on a tray. Not only is the Baker's Village way more hygenic - it's also much faster. No need to wait around for the cashier to wrap up your treats after you pay. And the faster I can get my dessert fix, the happier I am.

Their sliced green tea pound cake looks deliciously dense. I tried it and while indeed dense it was very dry and had no taste of green tea. Still I bought another one because I like the dense-ness of the cake.

They also have this interesting pizza-like bread. It's basically vienna sausage cut up into little rounds spread throughout the bread and baked with a bit of onion, egg, and topped with ketchup. Not just very Korean, but very East Asian.

There are two pastries which I really like (see my photos):

    - white bean pastry. It's light, fluffy, flavorful, and also a bit chewy.  It's doubly great when it's hot out of the oven.

    - The cream filled pastry.

The smell of fresh baked breads when you walk in the door, you know this is a good place.

If you like mochi, they have them.  It's different from Japanese mochi because it's Korean, it's good if you like more mochi than stuffing.

The have this banana bread/cake thing that's awesome.

And this green bean puff pastry is good too.

My husband and I went to Myung Dong Tofu Cabin Restaurant and I found this store labeled "Bakery". I like baking a lot. I always buy one thing or two in every bakery store I see.

I was born and brought up in the northeast China, which shares a lot of traditions with Korean areas. Food is one of them. So Korean bakeries sound more familiar for me than other Chinese bakeries, mostly in Taiwan or Hong Kong style.

We bought 4 different selections. I am glad to find some taste I haven't had for years. Thanks for bringing back my childhood memories!

Review for the tapioca buns only.

They are bigger and cheaper than Paris Baguette's. However, they are more crunchy/crispy and don't have as much chewy innards as Paris'. Chewy innards is what I look for in those buns lol.

I like that they still had some at the end of the day, so three stars for that. Paris doesn't have them in the late afternoon or evening. Jin's bakery has them but they are wrapped in plastic so it's soft and hard to chew.

I wish this bakery was in SF.  Whenever I'm in the South Bay I try to drop by Baker's Village to stock up on their peanut cream bread.

my usual korean baker's villiage shopping list (whenever i'm in south bay):

    (1) custard bun - so much better than the chinese bakery ones, b/c theres actually tons of custard in the bun and no air pocket of nothingness, bun is moist. custard is nice a light. lip smackingly good.

    (2) that loaf of bread but it had a whole bunch of pieces of chestnut in it (no cream or raisin nasty stuff) just moist loaf and bam (chestnut). usually u can find it in the middle island display area with all the other loaves.

    (3) croquette (its like panko fried potato salad) - kinda oily but good, b/c its one of the few savory things they have there, those u can usually find on that tray  next to the cashier

    (4) my experience with the cakes here have been pretty good, but paris baguette seems like they're a little better.

    OMG!!!
You have to try their Rotti Buns.
I'm very picky when it comes to pastry but this Rotti Buns win my heart.
It has wonderfully balanced mocha topping with so soft bread inside. It has just right amount sweetness and tastes heavenly.
I have to drive bit to get there and it is well worth it.

    review for tapioca bread~
ok, straight up baker's village has THE best tapioca bread in the area. Don't go to paris baguette! Those are hard and sort of taste weird and they're totally not chewy and delicious. BV's tapioca balls are not only larger, but just....sooo... perfect. same price as PB's too. highly recommended =)
(everything else at the bakery is oookay but paris baguette has better pastries)

White bean bread ($1.25) was way too sweet! Normally I wish there's more filling but now I wish there'd been more bread.

Tapioca bread ($1) was chewy, but the crust had hardened on the outside.. I imagine it would've been GREAT straight out of the oven. Pity, though.

I came upon Baker's Village after eating at the Tofu restaurant next door. I needed something sweet to top off full belly! The bakery had a nice assortment of pastries and bread, some traditionally korean, and others that were not.  The cakes look delicious, and we ended up bringing home a small size of the sweet potato cake. YUM-MO! The cake was perfectly moist, and the frosting was not too sweet. There were chunks of sweet potato sandwiched between the vanilla cake and frosting. We also sampled the mochi balls with red bean, and kabocha filled buns. All were delicious! I will definitely stop by again!

This place is my favorite way to cheer myself up after a crappy day. I agree with a previous reviewer that it's really sad that business is not as good here anymore because of Paris Baguette, especially because they are very different bakeries. This is your place for more traditional Korean bread; roll cakes, cream-filled buns, sesame buns, and pretty much every bakery item you associate with a Korean-American upbringing is much better here. Paris Baguette is your place for more buttery, flaky pastries, and while they do what they do very well, their red bean buns (you know what I mean.. the dampabbangs) do not compare to the ones here.

I used to like going here - the rice balls are pretty good and fresh.  HOWEVER, the last time I was here, I bought some buns, individually wrapped in plastic bags.  After leaving the bakery, I opened a bag, and saw that my bun had green spots of mold all over the underside of it.  ICKY BLAH!!!
