Love BR's - Would much rather eat here than at Famous what's his names. Locally owned/operated.

Delicious...I had the pulled pork with the coleslaw and beans as sides. Love supporting local places and I will definitely be back. SO good.

Legit BBQ in Minnesota? Yep - Baker's Ribs is the real deal. The kitschy decorations (pigs everywhere) are a bit much, but the smoky, fall off the bone ribs more than make up for it. They do have the traditional Texas sides of Texas toast, jalapenos and pickles - always a good test of whether a place is authentic. The baked beans are smoked overnight in the pit - they are delicious. The dirty rice was bland - skip it.

If you dine in at Baker's Ribs, make sure you don't mind your clothes smelling like wood-smoke until you wash them next. This place serves true barbecue. The ribs were some of the best I've ever had. The potato salad and dirty rice are great. The brisket seems hit or miss. I've had it once and it was dry as a bone, but I've been back and it's been just like brisket should be.
Relatively inexpensive and outstanding food. The only problem I have with this place is that they don't have any cornbread.
If you're a fan of real barbecue and you live in the Twin Cities, you MUST eat here. -

I love that some guy who can count the number of times he's had ribs on one hand giving this place two stars. Thanks a bunch for posting your review! Or not. Here's a bit of advice to you: If you expect to eat ribs without your hands getting greasy, you're doing it wrong, and you should stick with eating raw carrots. Ribs are a fatty cut of meat with plenty of collagen, and as soon as they cook down, all that product turns greasy. Run tell dat.
We hit Baker's for the first time after a trip to the Arboretum in Chan. I wanted ribs and checked Yelp for what was close. Was shocked to see a rib place in EP, and immediately was like "Eh" but the Yelp reviews were quite good, and when I checked their website and saw that they had 10 restaurants, with one here and the rest all in Texas, I was sold.
Everything has been incredible here, and we've had most of it. The brisket sando is incredible, the ribs are awesome (just make sure to ask for new ribs, and not anything left over from yesterday), and the sauce is incredible. The turkey and ham are amazing, as is the chicken, but these tend to get dried out rather fast, so you should ask about it before you get it.
The sides? Probably the best incarnation of potato salad I've ever had. The beans and cole slaw are also incredible, the dirty rice is okay.
If you want a great southern Texas BBQ experience, this place is hands down the best. -

Despite having had BBQ more times than I have fingers, Baker's was a letdown. Disclaimer - I didn't try the ribs.
The sliced brisket sandwich was drier than my mom's pork chops, though my sugar daddy (I forgot my wallet) seemed to enjoy his BBQ sandwich (probably because the admittedly tasty sauce masked the fact that the chopped beef swimming in it wasn't very good).
The only side I had was the tomato basil salad - basically quartered roma tomatoes bathed in a pesto-ish vinagrette. Sadly, the highlight of my meal.
Back at work in less than an hour, yet somehow I smell like I flew to Austin and drove to the Salt Lick for lunch... -

Since I've been rating BBQ lately, thought I should cover Baker's. It's very good and certainly one I'd recommend. I would disagree that it's better than Corky's in Memphis but still for Minnesota, it's purty dern goot. I also lived in Memphis, Dallas, Cincinnati and St. Louis so have pretty good BBQ credentials. Until Dickies arived Baker's was my number one choice, now it's about a tie with FD's 3rd. I hit Baker's at least once a month as I work in EP. I almost always order the 4 rib lunch special with a caesar salad. I eat the ribs dry, no sauce. YUM!. If you have to put sauce on your ribs, they aren't good ribs.
If they had beer i'd come for dinner but they don't so i don't. I do agree with others about the smell sticking with you all day. I like it but understand why some, especially women don't. Love the free peanuts, nice touch. There's often a short line at lunch but it moves quickly so don't be deterred. -

I can probably count the number of 'Ribs' dishes I've ever had on one hand. My rating is untainted by comparisons with other 'Ribs' restaurants - you can decide if that is helpful or not.
The restaurant itself is of the cheap n' cheerful type: pay upfront at a deli-style counter, collect your own drinks, take your food away in plastic containers and find a nylon-checked table for yourself. Pig paraphernalia adorns the walls amongst Lone Star symbols and license plates, reminding you of the Texan roots. Amusing, family-centric decor, all in all.
The food, unfortunately, is sub-par. The rib meat seemed cheap and soapy; the grease, rather than any finger-lickin' sauce, necessitated napkins. The sides fared little better - spicy beans started well, but were over-seasoned (holy pepper!), which took a few mouthfuls to discern, whilst the dirty rice, reasonably tasty, lost points for unidentifiable bony-meat bits.
In short, I found Baker's Ribs disappointing, especially given the rave reviews from people with more bbq food experience. -

I'm a Mississippi transplant and we're serious about our Q. This place is the Real Deal.
The namesake ribs are incredibly tender with a wonderful hickory flavor. They use a custom smoker and do it low and slow, probably around 12 hours for the pork shoulder. The ribs are wrapped to finish in order to make sure they don't dry out. The barbecue sauce is kept warm in the squeeze bottles and is tangy and sweet (I like to mix in a little Tabasco). The sliced brisket is my second favorite, and I also like the sausage, chicken, pulled pork, and turkey. I even ordered a Christmas ham from here (it was stupendous!) I'd say the output, particularly the ribs and brisket, are championship-caliber barbecue (and I've been to my share of Memphis in May and other festivals).
I really love their spicy baked beans, but if there is a flaw here it is that some of the side dishes are a bit bland to my palate (I'm looking at you, slaw and potato salad!) The dirty rice is nice though.
I don't know what a place like this is doing all the way out in Eden Prairie (this is the only Baker's Ribs NOT in TX), but since I work out there I sure am glad it's there. -

Baker's Ribs makes it hard to stay on a vegetarian diet. I work in close proximity to this little dive BBQ joint, and it frequently gets voted by the cubical masses as "the" best lunch destination.
This is by far the best BBQ in the Cities, and I swear they put drugs in the Brisket they serve as a special over lunch, it's that good.
The atmosphere is pig-centric...and they have a killer piggy bank collection that has my klepto tendencies running wild as I wait in line....how easy would it be to simply pocket a piggy bank or two?!!? They also have many pig farming implements hanging from the ceiling...causing my imagination to run wild at the thought of one falling and beheading an unsuspecting customer as he or she downs their last taste of pork...
My favorite dish is the Brisket, with a side of beans and slaw...I found the potato salad to be a bit bland, and I am not bold enough to try any of the interesting salads they offer as side dishes either.
Baker's Ribs is about the only thing Eden Prairie has going for it...and it's a fine hidden jem. -

Caveat: I've only gotten take out here, so I can't speak to the interior.
The pork ribs here are awesome, the beef brisket is excellent.
And even though my gf ran her car through the front window of this place to get her order (true story), they still welcome her back.
This is the best BBQ I've tried in Minneapolis. You have to go to Eden Prarie to get it, sadly. -

I've been searching for a solid BBQ joint around the metro area and Baker's hit the spot. I lived in Texas for about two years and really took for granted all the great BBQ places down there. Walking in here brought back the Texas BBQ feeling. I would say it's right on par with most places you'd find in the Lone Star State, and definitely one of better places around the Twin Cities.
I had the house special which was a chopped BBQ brisket sandwich with two sides. The sandwich was pretty good and baked beans and dirty rice were great sides as well.
I ordered a pound of brisket to go. It wasn't as moist as I would have liked it. There wasn't much fat in the cut but the flavor was still pretty good.
I'll have to come back for the ribs and sausage, well everything else too. I can see myself adding a star in the near future. Not because it's the best I've ever had but probably the best I'll find around here. -

Had to visit the place because of all the positive reviews. Ordered the sliced brisket sandwich and a side of coleslaw. Very disappointed. As another reviewer said, the meat was dry. Very flavourless. The barbeque sauce was just weak.
I personally was looking forward to a great Friday night dinner and it was ruined. I "may" go back again to give it a second try.... but maybe I'm expecting a lot since I've had the same sandwich in many American cities? Or it might have just been an "off day"?? But come on... Friday night... 6pm.... they should have the best meats available for the rush of dinner seekers!! -

I don't know what authentic BBQ means but I do know the food at Baker's Ribs is delicious. I like to do take-out so I can wash their grub down with a cold brew of my choice.
Ribs are great (no need for sauce but their sauce is pretty good), pulled pork is awesome, dirty rice and beans are delicious.
Haven't tried the beer can chicken but plan to. Love the bath tub full of bottled soda in front (covered in ice). I would give that last star if they sold cold beer and threw it in that tub. -

If you dare venture to the painfully ugly Baker's Ribs website and click on Locations, you will notice that all of the Baker's Ribs locations are in Texas... except one. One outlaw location... that went on the lam and hightailed it north to hide out in a strip mall... located in none other than the steaming cauldron of worthless mind-numbing commercialism that is Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
If you like BBQ and you are doomed to spend your lunch hour in Eden Prairie, Baker's Ribs is Aztec gold. The specials here are generous and delicious - their everyday lunch special consisting of a loose chopped beef sandwich and 2 sides (dirty rice, baked beans, pasta salad, etc.) is definitely a good choice for first timers - cheap and delicious. There's BBQ sauce and a giant roll of paper towels at every table, a miniature "fixin's" area with pickle slices, jalapenos and raw onions, and for as small as the place is I've never had a problem finding a seat. They do suffer from the "let's put a bunch of rusty metal crap on the wall" syndrome but I guess I can look beyond it here because the food is so good and the people are so nice. My personal favorites here are probably the sliced beef brisket sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich.
As great as I think this place is - sometimes I have to step back and realize that I am in Eden Prairie - and so anything that isn't an Applebee's seems amazing to me. Some of their sandwiches - while delicious - seem a bit on the dry side and you'll be finding yourself drowning just about everything (except for the chopped beef) in their signature BBQ sauce to get the moisture level right. The buns seem a bit on the flimsy/cheap side and often times seem inadequate to support the contents of the sandwich - perhaps a toasted bun or a bun with more density could solve this Baker's? Fountain drinks here are served in smallish styrofoam cups with crappy lids that seem to barely want to stay on - but they do have tubs with bottled sodas as well if you want to get all fancy feast.
As far as comparing it to that other BBQ place? I'm not sure...but there IS a signed napkin from Famous Dave hanging on the wall at Baker's - so they must be doing something right. -

As a deouvt Rudolph's fan since birth, i was excited when a family friend said that we haddd to meet them out at this place that it was the best. then when we got there we found out that they had never been there but had read some online review. so i was a little annoyed that we schlepped all the way out to eden prarie for a place no one had been to. having said that, it was pretty good. the rudolphs happy hour and texas toast are way better, but this place has great smoked baked beans and amazing potato salad and great sweet potato pie.
when it comes to the ribs, i prefer rudolphs, but i only two of us did and the other was my mother so it could be genetic. the ribs were good and meaty, not those ribs where you are biting all around the bone for one mouthful of meat. i think it was the sauce that didnt thrill me. when you squirt it out of the squirty thing its a little too runny. mama like her sauce thickListed in: Ribs and Wings

As a native Texan who adores the tiny Baker's Ribs chain, I was almost terrified to go to this place. Baker's Ribs is a place I usually go once a month or so, and when I went to Minnesota on vacation, I realized that I would miss having barbecue (yeah, I was only gone two weeks, but for a Texan that's a LONG time to go without barbecue!). Thankfully, it tastes pretty much the same, if not better.
I honestly didn't know if things would taste different. I've lived in Texas almost my whole life, and I shuddered at the thought of having "Texas-style barbecue" somewhere else. I walked in with the friend I was visiting, and was greeted with all sorts of Texas memorabilia on the walls. The incredibly friendly guys behind the counter spoke with Texas accents, and when they found out I was from there, we made small talk about the state and where we were from (turns out, we all grew up in the same small town!). The barbecue sauce was warm and slightly spicy, just the way I like it, and this place gets a solid seal of approval from me. -

Other than a scarcity premium (not many good BBQ ribs places around these parts?) I was not convinced that Baker's deserves 4 or 5 stars.
The ribs themselves were quite meaty and tasty, with a slightly spicy sauce. The fact that the ribs are sitting on the counter waiting to be microwaved to order is a bit of a handicap. Yeah, I know it probably doesn't matter much, but I don't know how long they have been sitting there.
Other items: the cole slaw was A-1 quality, very crisp and not overmayoed at all. The baked beans and the dirty rice were pretty good. I also tried the "house special" chopped BBQ beef sandwich which kinda blew.
You order at the front counter and select a table in a good sized dining area which has a look and feel similar to a picnic. Hokey, but clean.
I approve of the ribs and cole slaw. Maybe I'll try the chicken next time. -

Lived in Memphis for a few years and have been on the search for decent ribs in Minnesota ever since. Nice to find a place that at least understands what the goal is. Ribs are easily better than Corky's on an off night, and perhaps Rendezvous. But, perhaps not. Now if they could only do something with the personality of the place -- not to mention the folks working there. That, and the price.

When most people think of ribs in Minnesota, "Famous Dave's" comes to mind. But this is an odd little find that's been around for a very long time. Oddly enough, there's a Baker's Ribs in Minnesota and another related location in Texas. I don't know what the relation is, but they must be sharing some secrets of BBQ.
The old classic standby of low and slow holds true here -- some great BBQ cooked Texas-style with emphasis on seasonings and meat rather than sauces as one would find in Kansas City or Carolinas BBQ. Great stuff for BBQ fans! -

Stumbled upon Bakers while searching for lunch one Saturday. Knowing that this is Minnesota and not expecting to be wowed, we were blown away. It's always great to walk into a BBQ joint that smells of smoke and to be greeted with a southern drawl.
I can't recommend the sliced beef (brisket) enough. It is to die for! Tender, juicy and smoky... everything it should be. Ask for burnt ends. You won't regret it. The ribs and chicken are also great. My personal favorite will always be the sausage. It's got a great crisp casing that snaps when you bite into it and a nice zip. I could totally eat pounds of this stuff.
Sides... best baked beans ever. EVER. Generally, pretty decent sides. The beans are rich, meaty and zippy. Creamy potato salad and coleslaw. Really nice dirty rice.
What makes Bakers stand out is that it's beyond the normal chain food you get in EP. It actually is a chain from Texas, but it's a great addition to the food scene around here. In a town full of generic chains, I'll take Bakers any day. -

Looking for good BBQ in the southwest suburbs? You just found it.
The high points:
The pork ribs are meaty and tender. They are wood smoked and quite tasty. I like that they serve them dry. You add the sauce at the table. I think the mark of a good rib is that it doesn't need sauce to taste good, and Baker's Ribs certainly delivers on that. The beef brisket is also quite good. Don't worry, they have plenty of paper towels at each table for you to wipe your hands and face with.
I was quite happy with the coleslaw. It's not as good as Cecil's in St. Paul, but not bad. I'd order this again.
Service is the ubiquitous order-at-the-counter-and-carry-to-your-table on a plastic tray affair.
The low points:
This sounds strange to say, but I think of myself as kind of a baked beans connoisseur. The bbq baked beans here were barely ok. They seemed to suffer from too much sugar and a heavy hand on the bbq sauce. I learned why when, after the meal, I headed off to the bathroom to wash up. To my surprise, on a pallet outside the restroom, were five pound can after can after can of food service grade baked beans. REALLY!? That's what a bbq joint in the burbs does for bbq baked beans? Buys them and doctors them? Wow, was that ever a downer to discover.
The meat on the pork ribs was way TOO tender. The meat literally fell off the bone as I began to bite at it. Properly cooked pork ribs should be a little toothsome and the meat should require a gentle pull to release form the bone. Fall off the bone tender is a sign of over cooking.
No beer or wine service. Major downer when what these ribs really need is a bottle of Summit EPA next to them.
No Coke, Pepsi.
The bottom line: If you live in the SW 'burbs, this is probably your only choice for really good BBQ ribs. Go and enjoy, just be aware of the short comings. If you live elsewhere in Minneapolis or St. Paul, there are far better joints closer to where you live. Save gas and time, go to those.
UPDATE: Now it's not your only choice... See Dickey's BBQ in Shakopee... -

Another "Texas" BBQ place. It's clean and the person working the counter was friendly. You order at a counter, get your food and sit in the dining area. In Texas tradition there's a little area that allows you to add some dill pickle slices, raw onion and/or jalapeno slices to your plate.
I had the rib plate with baked beans and Cole slaw. The first thing that really caught my eye was that as soon as I order, a person behind the counter unwraps the cooked ribs, slides off half a rack and microwaves them. I don't think I've ever seen them do that in Texas.
The ribs were lightly smoked. The smokey taste is very subtle. I spoke to the man behind the counter and he said that hickory was too expensive so they use oak exclusively. The ribs are the "fall of the bone" variety meaning they have been boiled or parboiled or somehow braised. The result is a rib that is, in my opinion, mushy. Some people prefer their ribs that way; I don't happen to be one of them.
Unlike the typical Texas BBQ joint the sauce isn't molasses based. It's a very runny tomato based sauce with a very unusual taste. It does have elements of both sweetness and spice so it certainly qualifies as BBQ sauce, but the taste is unusual. I liked it, but it they should have an alternative sauce.
The beans have the sauce in them so they have the same unusual taste. The slaw was a little wetter than I like, but it wasn't mushy.
As mentioned by other reviewers, the prices make the BBQ here an excellent value. The rib plate with two sides cause $11.89. A pretty good deal.
All in all a positive experience and I would go back. -

had lunch here today. not super impressed, I mean meat was plentiful but the brisket was dry. My guess is that if you showed up and got something that they just finished smoking it would be fantastic, but I watched them pull my meat out of a plastic bag so obviously it was yesterday (or older) meat. The place itself was nice, very rustic I like the look and feel. I'll go back again, next time though I'll ask for the freshest hunk of meat they have.

Baker's Ribs serves real BBQ. You can smell the oak wood in the air before you even enter the restaurant. And the hardwood oak smoke will perfume your clothes when you leave the restaurant. Their enormous smokers are right behind the counter for you to see as you place your order. The owners work behind the counter and insure that high quality Q is served every time you visit. Everything on the menu is delicious. Try it all and you will be happy. I highly recommend Baker's Ribs when you get that craving for some good Q. This place is what a BBQ restaurant should be.

Review from Chad H.
Eden Prairie, MN
I've recently moved to Eden Prairie and eaten at most of the restaurants here. Bakers Ribs instantly became my favorite. Sure, Biaggi's and Wildfire are really good too, but they are not places you can eat at regularly due to the high cost.
While I'm no barbeque expert, a few months ago I did have ribs at what is considered the best rib joint it Atlanta, Fat Matt's. That experience really opened my eyes to what good barbeque is (prior to that my only experience had been with Famous Dave's.) What I learned is that barbeque ribs are to Southerners as grilled steaks are to us Northerners. You see the South never was industrialized to the same extent as the North (with parts of Texas the exception because they struck oil.) The people in the South tend to make less money and use less expensive cuts of meat. They also spend more time outdoors because it is warmer. The slow roasting cooking style will make a slab of ribs as good as any steak if done right. Good ribs are tender, meaty, smokey, and have a texture almost like a slow-cooked pot roast.
Baker's Ribs is a place that is undiscovered by most people. You go to Famous Dave's and it is packed while the food here is several times better yet you will only see 2 or 3 people there. They are even closed on Sundays. Because the ribs take hours to cook and there is no streaming line of customers, most of the time they are precooked and stuck in the refrigerator (though not always.) The first time I went there and ordered ribs they asked if I was eating there or taking it with me and then I saw the guy take them out of the refrigerator and stick them in the microwave. I thought "this can't be good." But then when I tasted them to my surprise it turned out they were every bit as good as the ribs in Atlanta. The barbeque sauce is warmed up for you, although the ribs are so good you really don't need it. They also have southern style sweet tea available with free refills. Tea is South Carolina's official hospitality beverage, it is the only state in the U.S. that tea is farmed in due to the weather being just right there, and you will see it at most restaurants down there. Bakers Ribs is more expensive than Fat Matt's in Atlanta, but then the cut of meat seems a little better too. Although Fat Matt's roasting style probably trumps Bakers Ribs, but not by much.
They have a huge woodfired smoker and you can see all the chopped wood piled in the back. Baked beans at most places have a bit of their barbeque sauce mixed in but this place does it better. Their baked beans are stuck in the smoker and have a smokey taste. I went to Rudolph's because of another review on this site and it turned out Baker's ribs are better. Rudolph's is a step above Famous Dave's for sure, but there is no smokey smell or taste to their ribs, as if they were propane grilled not smoked. They were not quite as tender or flavorful either. -
Review from Rhonda G.
I finally had a reason to have lunch in EP, and my choice was here. I forgot how huge a half slab of ribs can be. I chose dirty rice and potato salad for the 2 sides. Lots of high quality bottled soda to choose from. I like using the bbq sauce. Helpful, friendly staff. Right around the bend from Redstone.

Having lived in the South and Southwest for substantial portions of my life I consider myself a fan of and very familiar with good barbecue of all styles. Baker's is a legit almost-convince-yourself-you're-down-South BBQ experience. If you've got a craving, skip Famous Dave's (sorry Dave) and head on out to Baker's. You won't regret it.

The smells that come out of this place are incredible. I am not a huge ribs fan, but just the smell keeps me coming back! I had the salmon with baked beans the first time, and enjoyed both. My second time the ribs were great, and I was tempted to pick up a half gallon tub of the baked beans!

Can't believe it took me this long to try Baker's Ribs! I'm a native Texan, so I can really appreciate good beef brisket. This is the best bbq I've ever had outside of Texas. The food makes me think of the Salt Lick in Austin or the Kreuz Market in Lockhart. I liked everything about this place, the brisket, the smoked chicken, the baked beans, the dirty rice, and the Texas toast. I'm going to be a regular starting now.

I first started coming here about 10 years ago when I worked at a startup in the area. It didn't seem like it would make it, so I started coming every week, kind of figuring that I'd at least enjoy it while it lasted. Well here we are 10 years later and it's still around.
The BBQ here is the real thing, meat falling off of the bone; it's not slathered in sauce (you can do that yourself). The sausage link is outstanding and I've bought the smoked ham for more than one holiday.
It's busiest at lunchtime due to the makeup of the neighborhood. -

Best bbq joint around. I have been a fan for years for lunches. I walk in and their is Al behind the counter a friendly personable man who has a knack for names and faces (a quality that I don't have). On the left as you walk in is a hall of fame with signed memorabilia from all the various people served here over the years. A peanut bin is available for those waiting to order. I typically go with the daily special whatever it is, generally a bbq sandwich with two sides. I always have difficulties with the sides but, typically go with the beans and dirty rice. Love all of the sandwiches. I keep hearing the ribs are legendary but, have yet to try them. I am a bit of a rib connoisseur sometimes smoking 6 racks for 6 hours at a time, indirect heat, hardwood charcoal. I usually get the iced tea in the Styrofoam cup and head back for 3 refills along with a go cup. I brought my kids along once and Al give them both small stuffed animals I had been a regular by then (not really maybe once every couple of months for a couple of years but, he knows who you are). The dirty rice is fantastic, now words to describe it, same with the beans, sweet and hot at the same time. The slaw is good, along with the potato salad, and the tomato dish for sides as well. I don't believe I am tried everything else. The sandwiches are chopped up and made just as soon as your order one. Containers of warm BBQ sauce sit on each table, how them keep them warm eludes me, maybe some type of cold fusion going on. I have been their countless times from 11am to 2pm and I have never seen them swap them out. A small garnish table sits out on the side. I have NEVER has any BBQ that was not outstanding at reasonable prices (given the special, it get's price if you order a sandwich and 2 sides). They cater, I don't know if they have delivery or if you have to pick it up but, I have to push for bakers next time instead of Dave's who is also famous for his ribs. I actually like the decor it has kind of a SW feel to it similar to Sven and Ole's Northern Minnesota feel, the restrooms are acceptable clean but, acceptable.
The one item and it might have been temporarily offered was the smoked salmon. Save your money, I am not sure if they offer it anymore.
If your looking for quick, fantastic, reasonably priced BBQ with a personable staff or lunch in the South Metro, head to Bakers ribs!
My price rating of under $10 is based on the lunch. I have not tried their ribs or have been their for dinner and I usually order the sandwich with two sides and a fountain drink. -

So good! I have recently started going here after 3 years of wondering about it and I must say I am addicted. I love the pork sandwiches and the ribs are the best! Why did I ever go anywhere else for BBQ???
