Every neighborhood has to have a bagel shop and this place is no exception to that rule.
A place where they make all their bagels on site and have a wide variety of cream cheeses. Honestly a bagel lovers' paradise. Delicious chewy bagels are the best when they are warm and freshly made.
The one down side to this place is that since it is good the lines are out the door sometimes. I came here for breakfast one day, a Sunday of all days, and it was already about 10 and decided to get some breakfast. My girlfriend went in and got us breakfast and man can I tell you that it was good and more then filling. For about $8 I got a breakfast platter which had homefries, two eggs, bacon AND french toast. OH man was I definitely eating with my eyes then. But when do I ever not eat with my eyes.
Well needless to say I devoured the food and happily cleaned my plate. My recommendation is that you come early and get your food and get out because the place does get packed. There are some tables to sit down and eat but honestly every New Yorker eats on the go, it's a New York tradition.
Will I go back?? If I'm hungry and want a filling breakfast for under $10 I will definitely go back. -

I love Baker's Dozen--in Kew Gardens and in Greenpoint. Friendly staff, great bagels, and plenty of other stuff on their menu, like pannini, sandwiches, some muffins and croissants, amazing chicken salad, and decent coffee. This is a neighborhood staple for sure.

I had my first Bagel from the bakers dozen this Sunday. Nice lively place.
I would say this is a reliably good NY bagel. fresh baked. The lox cream cheese spread was fresh. I know some people like their bagels extremely dense or hard or more chewy. This would be rated more chewy on the inside type bagel. -

As a lifelong New Yorker, I know my bagels. This place makes some of the best bagels I've ever had.
Even a good bagel place can be hit or miss, especially depending on the time of day you go. A good bagel place is more than just a good crust and a chewy interior - it also must be busy enough to have a good turnover so the bagel they give you hasn't been sitting around too long. Every time I go it seems I get a warm bagel, even without requesting it.
Service is quick, even if the line is long.
Big bonus points for consistently good bagels, and additional points for delicious mini-muffins (pistachio!) and danishes (cheese!).
Minus a star because every time my bagel isn't warm enough to melt the butter, I notice the butter is grainy. Yuck. If you're reading this, Baker's Dozen, please take note. -

Best Bagels!
Fact- place has the best bagels. It's a bagel place, not a restaurant. Expect assembly line service as they are constantly working to assist waiting customers. I've been favoring their whole wheat everything bagels with egg-whites and turkey bacon (trying to keep it healthy). I'm also a big fan of their potato salad.
If you get your bagels somewhere else in the area, you're getting ripped off. This place is a "must" -

I can't really say anything that hasn't been said before, so I'll agree and keep it short.
Huge, chewy bagels that taste great. There always seems to be hot bagels straight from the oven. Lots of sandwich choices, including some great chicken salad. Definitely a legit place. -

Hey-yo!!! AWESOME Bagels! Make sure you get there early to avoid the rush, but even when the line was out the door I made it through in about 20mins. There arent many places that have good enough bagels to eat un-toasted, but I go for that here. They also have a grill, so Bacon/egg/cheese breakfast sandwiches or breakfast platters can also be had here.
Ive also been here for lunch and had a sandwich with their fresh Hero rolls, and damn... they make an awesome deli sandwich too! -

I can't comment on the inside of the place, or the service because I've only had bagels that were bought from here. I can say that they make my favorite bagels!
I haven't tried a bagel from here so far that hasn't been great. I get mine with olive cream cheese. I've also tried their lox and they are very good! -

Best bagels around. Size wise you're not going to find any bigger. Taste wise they're fantastic. Not the mention the customer service is excellent too. May be a long line at times but it's worth it.

Nothing better than a homemade bagel!! Tried on of the omelets and it was delicious. This is probably the best breakfast place in the area and maybe even best place to get food. I am a fan!

When i moved to Kew Gardens I was sad to be leaving brooklyn's bagel shops... but when i found this place...i was sad NO More.
there is always a line. They are constantly turning out fresh bagels (becuase they sell out!) and have a nice variety. I love the different varieties of cream cheese. And the staff handles the rushes well!
Once i went at 4 pm on the friday before memorial day weekend... and i bought 3 dozen bagels and the guy gave me attitude because i cleaned him out. I thought the object of having a bakery was to SELL the goods... smh. -

The bagels are really amazing, but the service and store layout are severely lacking. They also don't accept credit cards.
On a Sunday morning the Baker's Dozen is PACKED. But the layout of the store doesn't really accommodate people waiting for their food, so you basically end up with a huge group of people crowded around the cash register waiting for their order or trying to pay. Also, the guys making your bagel tend to shout at you and aren't very friendly.
All those things aside, the food is really good and their homemade specialty cream cheeses are extremely tasty. Just make sure you tell them how much you want, otherwise you'll end up with a huge glob of cream cheese which can be difficult and messy to eat. I usually ask them to go light. My personal favorite is an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese. yum! -

The. Best. NY. Bagel. Period. And trust me when I say that I have tried many. Slightly firm on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. Eat it with butter, cream cheese, or add bacon and egg, it's all delicious, sinfully delicious. They are also very fast, friendly, and professional inside. The only downsides are that they are cash-only and that I no longer live in the neighborhood but, it is definately worth the trip!

Best bagels in Kew Gardens, without a doubt. The bagels here are always fresh. they have a nice variety of different cream cheeses you can put on, and they'll also cook up eggs, cheese breakfast meats for you.
The coffee isn't the greatest, but drinkable.
I would give it 5 stars, but it's cash only and they layout of the store tends to cause log-jams at the cashier. -
Review from Magnolia M.
Queens, NY
This place is definitive of NY bagels. Huge, doughy, and served by dudes that look like they might've done some time (friendly nonetheless). Get there early to get your primary choice on bagels or bialys. A toasted everything from here is perfect. The olive cream cheese is an interesting tongue tickler, and the lox with cream cheese and red onion is to die for!! It's also about half the price than any deli in Manhattan. This place is perfect for breakfast if you're just quickly stopping in and out. Otherwise, the line build-up can create an awkward overflow into the small seating area, which is why I removed one star, but they keep the line moving and it is ultimately worth it!

Honestly, this is your typical bagel shop. I live around the corner and come here often to grab a bite for lunch or breakfast. If I wasn't lazy, I would be able to make the same bagel.
Bagel, cheese, ham & eggs. It's actually quite simple to make. Don't you think? -

Amazing bagels, good coffee, and reasonable prices. I usually get whole-wheat everything bagel with low-fat vegetable cream cheese which is my weekend staple.

The bagels aredangerously good. Hot, mushy bagels are made on the premises.
The sandwiches are OK. I had a turkey sandwich and there was nothing to write home about.
This place is open from 6 AM to about 4 PM. -

Manna from heaven, the food of the Gods ok I'm exagerating a little but these are really fine bagels and judging by the lines I'm on everytime I walk in there other people must love them too. I had a Pumpkin muffin that was much better, moister and more delicious than the one they are advertising on TV.
Worth the trip from Anywhere. -

New York, NY
I have tried bagels from many places in New York City metro area, and this is THE place to go for bagels. Especially, if you go in the morning, and get those just out of oven, they're the best. The inside is soft, and outside has a special chewy texture. I love eating the "everything" bagel by itself when it first came out of the oven. That's a NY bagel, best of all, bar none!

I used to live nearby and even though I don't anymore, I certainly don't mind making a (short) trek over to Baker's Dozen. The bagels are soft and delicious. I can eat them just plain toasted.
When it starts getting crowded, the flow of traffic can get a little awkward. There are a couple of tables in the middle of this already small place and if you sit at one of these tables , be prepared to have a small crowd start to gather around you as they wait to get their orders. But there's also a counter where about three people can sit and some tables outside near the theater. So, overall, no worries. -

KEW GARDENS, NY
I've been here quite a few times and have walked away happy every time! The service is great, very friendly cashiers/food preparers. I've only had bagels, coffee, and taken meat and cheese to go, but have always been very satisfied with my purchases. Highly recommend. Try the jalapeno cream cheese, mmmm. Damn I might have to go over there now, I'm making myself hungry...

every once in a while, you find a place thats sooo good it makes you wonder if you really do want to let everyone else in on it.
i had this dilemma when i went to baker's dozen a few days ago.
i went here one sunday afternoon. i had the soup special - a soup and bagel for $2.50. its an additional dollar fifty for flavored cream cheese and the veggie cream cheese was great on my toasted everything bagel.
my dad had a toasted, buttered corn muffin and a toasted bialy.
my brother had roast beef, turkey, russian dressing and coleslaw on a hero. it also came with a choice of salad and a drink
add a decaf coffee and a small chai and thats one hell of a meal for $20 -

Always a wait when you go in the morning, and crowded almost any other time of the day. So worth the wait though...so wait.

We enjoyed the bagels and breakfast sandwiches here very much, but the last time we came, the confusion and inaccuracy surrounding the placing of our orders here was unbelievable and a total comedy of errors. I got what I ordered (YAY!) but no one else did. Good thing they can handle an everything bagel with light cream cheese, otherwise I'd have to wonder...

This place is so legit. Sickest garlic bagel I've ever had. The staff is the nicest group of people.

New York, NY
Food is fresh, but the service is rotten. Owner of the store works the register and literally will nickel and dime you. Good place to get a bagel made onsite but just get ready for the lousy attitude. Considering this consistent problem with poor service, worth while to go to Dunkin doughnuts, 7-11 or Redwood's for a bagel instead. All three will value your business and respect you as a customer . Look out for the illegal football pool solicited by the owner of the place.

KEW GARDENS, NY
A pretty good bagel place. I love the bagel flats. I think they are a little cheap with the cream cheese though, usually bagel places put on way too much cream cheese on my bagel, baker's dozen not really. Sometimes I just eat one half of the bagel just to have enough cream cheese. The sandwiches are good. The guys that work there are really nice.

San Diego, CA
This is a good little place to go that's somewhat out of the way. That's probably why I never go. But when I'm in the area, the bagels are pretty good, and they have fantastic and very fresh sandwiches. I wish they were in a better location though. And the inside of the store could have been designed better-- it's a little confusing trying to maneuver yourself around and figure out what line leads where.

Who the fuck am *I* kidding. This is a solid FIVE STAR bagel place/deli. Half of what makes this place so great is the staff who are kind, attentive, friendly, and outgoing. The bagels are amazing, especially early in the morning or even better -- when you're lucky enough to get the fresh and hot-out-the-oven. Cream cheese or butter? It doesn't matter -- they're both great. I've been known to dabble with the special cream cheeses from time to time, and the sundried tomato is the cream of the crop. Not feeling so hungry? Try a mini bagel. My only regret is that they don't make whole wheat mini bagels. Not feeling like all the dough-ey-ness of a regular bagel? Try a flat. O-M-G. I've just been fucking around with the whole "flat" experience as of recently -- it's a new development for me -- and I have to say, WOW. Yes, please. Slightly more expensive than a regular bagel, but definitely worth it. Perfect to split with a friend depending on how hungry you are. Yes, it's true -- this place is CASH ONLY. Oh well.

Long Island City, NY
I work on Queens Boulevard and Union Turnpike and at least a few times a week, I find myself ambling the few blocks over to Kew Gardens proper to have myself a delicious bagel from Baker's Dozen. With bagels, you either have it or you don't, and this place certainly has it. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with great cream cheeses and a great assortment of baked goods. A hearty +1 to Angela for the toasted everything with veggie cream cheese! Highly recommended!
