Review based on a happy hour only....
Go to the pub around 3:30pm. Happy hour is only at the bar (no seats around the bar) and allows 2-for-1 drinks (select beers, wine and well drinks). Wine was decent and the bartender was attentive. Bar was pretty full with mostly men in their 40s, but all were polite and willing to shift over to allow 3 women seats together at the bar. Ended up getting 6 (2-for-1) glasses of wine for $21.
(Friends got sliders that they said were a little overdone.) -

Before going in for a Saturday night after dinner drink, I was wondering if the Upper East Side bars have the same scene they've had for decades. The answer is yes.
Youngish guys looking their best to impress young ladies. If the boys have no chance, they get too drunk and burden their friends, and sometimes those around them. As for the ladies, they too are on the prowl, or hanging, a little less drunk then their male counterparts.
Overall, it was an OK experience but seems a little too stereotypical for a UES Saturday night.
I certainly don't think Sherlock Holmes would frequent this establishment.
Downtown please. -

2 for 1 drinks, for $7, during happy hour. That's better than the French place down the street. The bartender was a little out of it and she took forever to get us our drinks. She also didn't really know how to explain the happy hour menu.
It was really hot inside and I didn't like the drunk 40-year old men around us - loud and obnoxious.1 Previous Review: Show all »

This place is incredibly average. I want to give it 2.5 stars but rounded down because its just never a place I look forward to going to.
I come here a lot because its equidistant to me and my good friend. The food is usually OK at best and will infrequently, if ever, blow you away. But when you're eating at a generic bar/pub you probably aren't expecting much to begin with. Don't go for anything ambitious. Traditional bar food - wings, nachos, etc - is the safest bet.
That being said, there is always plenty of room to sit and the very extensive beer list makes up for the infrequently cleaned taps. I've learned to avoid the draft beers here but the times when drafts came out skunked or sour from the tap, the waitress always offered up an alternative at no charge, even if she denied a problem with the beer itself. -

I've been here a few times, and think it's pretty decent for a pub. They have surprisingly good vegetarian food, and like some of the neighboring haunts, they have cider on tap. I came here for lunch with a colleague one day, and was surprised by how inexpensive the bill was, even considering that we each had soda.

Pretty unremarkable pub that I used to go to when I lived in the neighborhood and was dating my neighbor who was a huge fan of the place. It's fun for watching the soccer games and the food isn't bad, but I wouldn't go out of my way either.

It was pretty hopping in here on Sunday when we went to watch the Giants in the playoffs. We got there right as the game was starting, the bar side was packed but we were able to get a table. The homemade curry chicken was very good. It tasted a little like Chinese stir fry with curry but it's still delish and they give you a huge portion. Their chicken pot pie is very good too.

Review from Jen S.
I'm trying really hard to think of something that went right during this visit, but I'm coming up with a big 'ol empty.
1. I ordered a coke. Clearly, without mumbling, while looking at the waiter so that he could read my lips if he had to. Result? DIET coke.
2. Fish and chips: the fish was rubbery in that way that says both 'too long in the freezer' and 'too long a cooking time.' The chips were bland. So bland I had to use the salt shaker. I NEVER use the salt shaker. Usually things are too salty for me. So when *I* say the fries were bland, believe me, they were bland.
3. I asked for the malt vinegar when I ordered the fish and chips. I had to stalk the waiter to finally get it, and my rubbery fish and bland fries were getting colder (and more rubbery) by the minute.
4. Tartar sauce. It is simple to make, no? And fairly universally recognizable? At your most basic it is mayo and pickle relish. The tartar sauce I was served was actually.....ranch dressing. I tried to send it back and got a lecture from the sullen waiter (probably still pissed off that I made him go get the malt vinegar for me) on how the ramekin in front of me WAS tartar sauce, and then described what ranch dressing was in a way that made me suspect he had not even a passing acquaintance with either condiment, because I've never yet met a ranch dressing that was full of 'chunky bits, like relish.' Dude.
5. The service: sullen, as mentioned. Also couldn't be bothered, negligent, piss poor, and underwhelming.
6. Why is it that the places where you don't want to linger are always the ones that give everyone else in the place their check right away, but you have to send out ninjas to wrestle YOUR check from the sullen waiter's damp little hands.
I wished it were otherwise, but this is possibly the worst place I've been to in a while. Crappy food, crappier service, and a lackluster ambience.
Can't be bothered to try this one again. Total waste of my money.

Review from Nicole F.
I went here with a big group (40 people coming and going over 3 hours) that had the "upstairs" (2-3 steps) area in the back. I had the brunch deal of $12 with 2 drinks, and it was just ok. However, being in a subgroup of 5 the server brought us all one check without asking if we'd like separate ones. Fine, no big deal; we combined cash, some ran to ATMs, and I collected money and gave it to our server. A few minutes later, she returned to say that we didn't leave enough tip. I checked it and forgot to include tax and left a bit more, about 15% (she had done the bare minimum throughout our stay and yelled at one of us for bringing a beer from the bar).
Then, she returned a SECOND time saying that we did not tip enough and that it was standard to pay "double the tax," which would have been fine if she really deserved 17.75%, however, she did not, and instead of accepting our INCREASED gratuity, she argued with us and said, "I don't know where you're from, but it is customary to tip better." It is safe to say I will NEVER return and feel terribly that we already brought them so much business, as the rest of the place was empty. I can see why! -

As Irish as they come - they even hire Irish bartenders to give it some authenticity. The food is tasty & the beer is cold - what more could you want in a sports bar. They'll put on a Rugby or Soccer match before the put on a baseball game or football, but it's a nice spot for a big game.
if you want some movie nostalgia, the movie Cocktails filmed here - when Tom Cruise is learning the ropes. -

I really like Baker Street. It's super convenient, casual, and the wraps and salads are very good. Drink prices are fine, and the atmosphere allows for groups of all shapes and sizes to have a good time hanging out.
I mostly go for the food now, though I once had a date here, drank a lot of vodka, and then traipsed home in the snow. Baker Street makes that sort of thing not just possible, but likely.
Here's a tip: try not to sit near the window facing 63rd, unless you have a lot of time to kill and don't mind waiting a bit. You may be forgotten from time to time because the servers literally can't see you. Other than that, cool, friendly service.
Also, their cottage fries are a nice change from the norm. -

A Holmesian-themed Irish Pub & Restaurant, bedecked with Rugby and Soccer club flags and scarves.
It almost goes without saying that their sundry selection of beer, wine and liquor is more than adequate, but to quote the late Jimmy Price, "The grub here will make your bollocks tingle."
If you have any doubts, as one of my friends did when we brought him here for the first time, then just try the soup... -

I've been going to Baker Street since it opened. Yes, I have been in the East 60's too long. Anyone remember when this spot was Boxers?? I mean I only barely remember that, but I do remember.
Anyway, the burgers here are really good. Not Corner Bistro good, definitely not Minetta Tavern good, but really solid Irish pub good. The Baker Burger comes with nice gooey cheddar and some Irish back bacon. The burgers also come with puffy discs of french fry goodness. And a tip for my Yelping brethren - ask for a side of their homemade curry sauce to dip your fries in.
Respectable beer lineup and reasonable prices round it out as a local favorite. -

Came here on a Thursday night at 11:00pm and it wasn't crowded--perfect! We sat at a bar table near the window and the waiter wasn't super attentive but when our food eventually came out, it was the perfect bar food... FRIED. Just the way I like it.
Nice ambiance, spacious, separated area for dining tables against the wall, cute boys watching the game at the bar. Can't go wrong if you live in the area (east 60's). -

I've been going to Baker Street since I moved into the East 60s almost 2 years ago (having lived in the East 90s previously) and I love it. It has become "my spot" - you know, that little place you have where it's nothing fancy but you always feel welcome, the bar staff knows your name (and your drink), it's conveniently located near your apartment and you can either bring friends or go alone. I try to stop by at least once a week (or every other week when life gets really busy) and always am happy to find Jackie or Eugene serving up a nice cold one.
It is a basic pub: Music comes from an iPod. Sports are on the (many and plenty) TVs. Crowd is a mix but for the most part, very relaxed and nice. Trivia nights are pretty crowded. If you come late at night (or rather, the early hours of the AM - like 2 to 4 AM), you can sometimes meet local restaurant owners or bartenders/bar staff (such as myself). I just love the fact that I can actually come here alone and meet people if I want, or just be left alone to enjoy my post-work beer. I have never had a "bad" night at Baker Street.
So I'll keep it nice and simple, just like Baker Street: Two thumbs up. :) -

fun neighborhood spot. decent and reasonably priced bar food, good drink selection, and awesome bartenders! I used to live a block away from this place and it's great to watch a game (we watched the US womens soccer world cup here) or to grab a bite or late night drink. There are a lot of regulars and the trivia night is a blast. the old irish guy who owns the place does the trivia and is hilarious. Eugene is the best bartender ever and gives great life advice haha! They are always accomodating and you're on the UES, I would definitely go for it! Oh, and they have a cheap/awesome brunch that includes a free drink!

This place is my Cheers. I live around the corner. You'll probably see me sitting in the corner playing photo hunt by myself cross-eyed at 3am on a Sunday. I am THAT girl. just kidding... sort of...
I love this bar a) because the bartenders are the nicest irish folk this side of the bridge b) i USUALLY like the crowd (aka- lots of dudes) c) food is good. great honey mustard. my friends all die for the chicken fajita panini
That being said, every place has its issues. I need better music at BS. And how about a happy hour?

A little crowded and a little loud for a pub-type place, but a decent place for a pint.
Big plus: beer is served in 20oz Imperial Pint glasses.
Haven't personally tried the food, but a friend gave the chicken tenders a thumbs up.
The manager/owner (not sure which) is a riot on quiz night. -

Saturday night 10:30pm and we are walking down the deadzone that "is" 1st Ave. in the 60s looking for a reasonable burger/pub option. It's raining and we aren't picky - hence Baker Street.
There is considerable seating and a large pub menu but that's where the love affair ends. The place is pretty charmless. Flatscreens everywhere and the music that was PUMPIN' PUMPIN' PUMPIN' (think Night At The Roxbury) just didn't fit the with feel of the place. The bar scene wasn't much either (is there a good bar scene above 59th street).
Back to the reason we were there - famished. The burger I had was cooked to order and the bun toasted (+1 for that) but the cottage fries were very much orieda specials out of the bag. (-1 for that). The beers were in 20oz. imperial pints which I guess is a 3.2oz. bargain. 4 burgers + 6 beers + tax + tip = $100.
No reason to return. -

Blah. This is exactly what this bar is. I have been here a few times as I don't live that far away, but it is consistently disappointing, and I am not sure I will be back after tonight. The service is TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE. I swear, the waiters don't care, or are just oblivious to their customers. It's ridiculous. The food is mediocre, and not much else to be said about it. The prices are decent for a bar, and they have decent drink specials during happy hour.
I don't understand why this place is always crowded.... -

Though I didn't eat anything at this rather friendly Irish pub, I was quite surprised by the extensive menu and moderately healthy foods offered. Then again, I've been to two American alcohol establishments in my life and am not fully aware of the breadth of menus out there.
There for a birthday get-together, I was a little overwhelmed by the extremely cramped quarters and lack of air, but still pleased at how relaxed everyone seemed to be.
About drinks...I suppose it's a standard bar in that they offer all the classics. I opted for a Fuzzy Navel which tasted nothing of alcohol, but still sipped it maddeningly. A Captain Morgan's with cranberry juice, which I only tried, was far stronger. -

Manhattan, NY
Best burgers I have found so far.. nice menu and amazing fries (circular ridged but puffy and tasty) Always a decent crowd, nice selection of beer and decent on the wallet.
Service on the other hand, is less than to be desired... Every time I go in to sit down and eat we have issues with the order (possibly due to the constantly rotating wait staff who do not speak english well) and are always ignored. Initially I thought it was possibly just me (maybe they saw my reviews on here lol) but no, our table neighbors frequently show disgust and ask if this is the "norm" to which I reply with a nod and twirl around my empty glass. The constant staff rotation is probably due to shitty tips, but then again, having been a waiter you learn how to make money and avoid doing the things that lose you money. Pay attention to the tables girls (have yet to have a male waiter) and constantly keep glasses full! This will put more money in your pocket (even sodas are charged on a per glass basis)
I'm also not irish and don't really like soccer, so this place is a wash for happy hour if you're anything like me. Apparently this area is soccer central, so if you want a good burger stop by, but otherwise you will probably not like this place (even though it was the first Fridays, and was featured in the movie "Cocktail")
Did I mention the burgers are delicious? 4 stars for the burgers, 3 for the service and experience. -

New York, NY
This place has a nice setting - reminds me on being back in the UK - and I can see why it's good for watching sports thanks to it's multiple large-screens.
However, the food isn't good: I ordered the Irish breakfast and it was served on a random, and ridiculously large, square plate; the sausages were very greasy; the fries took over half of my plate (and I've never had fries with breakfast in the UK!); you can only have white toast; there were NO mushrooms; and it left me feeling indigested for the rest of the day!
The service left little to be desired also - we had to wait a long time to order, then they got it wrong and then they forgot to correct it - and they charge for coffee refills, when my friend never got her second mimosa (included in the brunch menu).
Not impressed - doubt I'll go back and certainly won't eat! -
Review from Juliet S.
Four stars with four good reasons.
1) Baker Street is extremely versatile spot. I've been here for Sunday brunch, happy hours, birthday gatherings, and late night shenanigans. It never disappoints.
2) The brunch - yummmm. Get the omelet with lox. Great burgers, too. AND you get TWO mimosas (or screwdrivers or bloody mary's) with your brunch order. Big points there.
3) Best place on the UES to watch a game of European soccer. Lots of tv screens on both sides of the bar. I love the international flags hanging up all around, too.
4) Atmosphere. Casual and comfortable. What more could you ask for? -

I have been here too many times to count. I've had amazingly great times, I've made horribly bad choices, I've laughed, I've sobbed, I've made friends, I've been robbed.
Ok so perhaps that last experience was my own damn drunken fault. Regardless though I still love this bar and its amazing bartenders. Wednesday night trivia was a weekly staple for me for a good 2yrs. Good times. Ooo and that Moriarty Burger is pure heaven -- perfect with a cider.
I enjoy watching futbol and rugby games here. Nothing like stepping into a bar at 11am and feeling the excitement of those around you. Great atmostphere for true fans. -

Pro: delicious food, great draft beers, your game is on one of their tvs, trivia night
Con: in the last two months or so, service has slowed significantly. In fact, our waitress went ON BREAK right after we ordered another round of drinks in the middle of our meal. We got the drinks twenty minutes later, and then we had to wait another twenty minutes for the bill...not okay. The next time we went back, it again took far too long after the meal to find our server and ask for a bill. So, it wasn't just a one off. -

Manhattan, NY
Great Irish pub. Very friendly bartenders, good selection of fairly priced drinks. Usually crowded, but not overwhelmingly so. If you want a table, show up a little earlier (before 9).
Went there with a group of friends for the Wednesday quiz night, and had a blast (although we lost). The owner, who runs the quiz, was hilarious (and threatened to 'defenestrate' someone. Look it up.)
The reasons for the 4 stars:
+ good drinks/bartenders
+ good price
+ atmosphere
- only about 50% of the people were involved in the quiz (didn't help that there was a big basketball game at the time), and this detracted a little from the experience.
Will definitely come back here again. -

This is my favorite Upper East Side bar. They have a good selection of brews at decent prices. The food is pretty good, I enjoy the calamari a great deal. The service is ok, not great, but not horrible. Its a very chill atmosphere, which I like. Its an English/Irish pub, so there are Brits and Irish people that work there, which is fun. Alot of soccer, sorry football, and rugby on the tvs. Its fun to watch different sports. and there are alot of tvs in there. I totally recommend this place if you are in the area

Review from Jason P.
My buddy and I were looking for a couple drinks and we decided to stop at this corner pub that seemed very laid back. As soon as I walked in, I realized this was bar was catered to the Europeans, from one of the woman bartender's who carried an English accent, to the jerseys/clothing that represented different teams from Europe. This bar was definitely big on the rugby and soccer scene, but also did have a few TV's on ESPN and other sports.
The bar is pretty small yet cozy, with the old dark wood floors, tables and bar. At the L-shaped bar are about 10-15 high stools. There are also about 10 tables to sit and order from the menu.
We sat at the bar and ordered a couple beers, which were about $5/each. The bartender was friendly and always came by when our glasses were nearing empty. No waiting was necessary to catch the bartender's attention. But then again, there were only about 15-20 customers in the bar on a Thursday evening. The place was definitely relaxed and laid back, but it carried some aura that some wild nights involving Rugby/soccer happened here. Definitely not tonight though.
A fellow sitting next to me ordered some pub food and the wings, though slightly small, looked and smelled delicious!!! I will definitely have to come back here and try the burger and wings. -

Probably shouldn't go for brunch. They have a $12 special - your choice of entree plus 2 drinks. It sounded like a good deal, but the food just wasn't my cup of tea. I got the veggie burger which just wasn't worth eating, so I didn't. It came with a salad that I didn't eat either.
I would go back for a beer at the bar and perhaps some bar food, but for now I'll stay away. -

This is my go-to bar after work. Their food is great, and they're very accommodating if you want switch things up on the menu. The portabello panini, salmon sandwich, and the sliders are some of my favorite meals there. Beer selection is great. Depending on which waiters are there, the service is hit or miss. Our favorite is Stephanie.

New York, NY
Not a terrible place to watch soccer, not an unbelievable place to watch soccer, either. I would estimate about 12 TVs that run simultaneously playing different games. I understand that this is what they have to for qualifiers, but it got annoying that the end of the Germany/Russia game was drowned out by the commercials leading up to the England/Ukraine game. Can we get a little common sense volume control up in here? No, I don't have a kid to send to soccer camp, UK Socca. Yes, soccer is a lovely game, thank you for that tear-jerking ode to it. I guess it could have been worse, no Swiffer Wet-Jet or Febreeze commercials, whew.
A big selling point is, however, their $12 brunch that comes with two (TWO!) drinks. The food isn't great, but $12 for French toast and a bloody Mary and/or mimosa? Matched with a couple of good games? Reason enough to come back. Well played. -

I love a good pub. That being said, I'm not looking for a work of art when it comes to the presentation of my food.... it's a pub! I ordered the corn beef hash, bloody mary, and a bud lite... delicious! The bartender was awesome, each Bloody Mary was strong than the last. I heard the Chicken Fajitas Paninis are great but you won't find it on the menu, just ask the bartender to have them make it. Anyone who has come here before raves about it.
I've been here at least a dozen times and I'll come back a least a dozen times again. I have yet to be disappointed. -

Solid rugby spot!
I initially came out to this pub to catch some Euro Qualifiers. I was surprised to see the place, as it doesn't look like much from outside. It doesn't even look like much inside, to be honest. However, I was pleased with my experience.
Decent bar food . . I think I had 2-3 plates of their fries, which are sort of round shaped. They cook them fairly light and they taste great with any one among their great selection of beers. I came here for breakfast once also for the Rugby World Cup (Go USA!) and they have your usual Englsih breakfast menu. All in all, good stuff.
Service is also solid with a crew of cute Irish girls on hand to make sure you have what you need. You can either get service at the bar, or they have tables you can sit at as well.
Most of the people who come through on the weekends come for either football (soccer) or rugby. They have TVs stationed just about everywhere, and they post schedules for each TV on a big white sheet of paper, especially on Euro Qualifier and Rugby Tournament days.
They draw a decent crowd for being so far uptown, but I'd definitely make the trek out again if they were showing a match that my other bars don't show. If you're coming out to see football and this place is sort of a trek, check out Nevada Smith's as an alternative.
Enjoy! -

What is a reasonable thing to do on a Monday night in the middle of winter during the intersession break between Christmas and New Year's Eve after running thirteen miles? If you didn't answer "drink beer, eat nachos, and watch Premier League Soccer," then I will say good day to you.
Baker Street is cool in this way: it's a bar, in an American city, that is strongly dedicated to making sure soccer is actually viewable here. They have a ton of TVs in good locations, they have Setanta Sports and Fox Soccer Channel and GolTV, and the atmosphere is pretty cool because they have a ton of soccer scarves and seals all over the place. I APPROVE.
Unfortunately, aside from that, I don't know what else there is to recommend the place. The food is good - enough. The service was good - enough. None of it was BAD, but it wasn't amazing to the point that I would come here if it weren't for the soccer-action.
And, true to form, pretty close to the end of the game that I was watching with my brother on Monday night, they changed every TV in the place to a NY Giants game. Even in a soccer bar, it's secondary to football. Oy.
