My favorite neighborhood restaurant and French bistro.  Local establishment for over 26 year and every dish is cooked to perfection.  Prices are reasonable and service is friendly.  Delightful French owner greets all the guest and knows all his regulars.

They have lighter dishes, but these were our divine indulgences.

    Soupe à l'Oignon
    French Onion Soup

    Escargot Bourguignon
1/2 dozen snails in garlic & parsley butter sauce

Foie Frais Pôelé et sa Compote de Pommes
Fresh pan-seared foie-gras, apple compote, figs

    Tournedos Rossini
Pan-seared beef tenderloin topped with fresh pan-seared foie-gras,
    potato gratin, vegetables

Definitely one of the better quaint, French bistros in town. Yummy!

    1) Seared Foie Gras
    2) Escargot
    3) Cheese Platter
    4) Charcuterie Platter
    5) Steak Tartare w/ Frites
    5) Canard a L'Orange
    6) Creme Brulee
    7) Coffee

We had a huge group for dinner, and split # 1-4 together for appetizers.

    1) Value alert: for less than $20, they give you a generous serving of foie gras. Yummy! Foie gras was spot on, and accompanying grapes and apple compote were also delicious.
    2) Escargot - Can't go wrong with snails, butter and garlic.
    3) Cheese Platter - this was kind of underwhelming - standard camembert, brie, roquefort, and a couple of other hard cheeses thrown in. Not my favorite.
    4) Charcuterie - It was ok, but I wouldn't say this was my favorite either - nothing stellar to note except for the tasty pate in the middle. But again, I've had better...

BF ordered the steak tartare, and I ordered the Canard a L'orange (duck with orange sauce).

    5) Steak Tartare - this was probably my favorite dish of the night. Generous portion of tartare, seasoned nicely, and the french fries were sooooooo good. I ended up eating most of the french fries.
    6) Canard a L'Orange - for a dish with "orange" in its name, there was no orange flavor to the sauce. The duck was cooked nicely, and the sauce was tasty, but no orange. Sauce ran into the crispy polenta so half my polenta was soggy, and the sauteed spinach was also not impressive.

Our other friends had the salmon (two out of two agreed that the carrots served with the salmon were tastier than the salmon itself), the boeuf bourguignon (very salty), and the cassoulet (pretty good.)

Creme brulee was done well but again, nothing special.

I liked that the coffee came with a little jug of warmed milk. Nice touch.

Overall I think we will definitely come back for the steak tartare, and there were some things on the breakfast/brunch menu that looked interesting to us too.

I've been here three times now---although previous visits were quite a few years back.  This is a nice little neighborhood place, and being in a neighborhood, even though it's just off the bend where Lombard (the boulevard) becomes Richardson, there isn't a lot of parking---I'd cab it, if you can find one of those, these days.  Baker Street Bistro seems to be very popular among the ladies of a certain age, as for most of our time there the place was divided nearly by half between thirty somethings and posh older women.

The menu is fairly diverse and from my standpoint a delight in that there was NO pizza, NO burgers, NO mac-n-cheese, and NO hangar steak (for the burger/pizza/mac-n-cheese crowd who are evolving).  Whoopee!  The by-the-bottle wine list was decent, with the most expensive bottle at $65.00.  We very much enjoyed our selection, and it was a great improvement over they by-the-glass reds available, and the sparkling wine.

Where Baker Street falls short is in value.  With entrees (main courses) right around $30.00 it's up there with the City's best establishments (or, perversely, right down there with the tourist joints in the Wharf) yet I didn't think the food was at the same level as the price.  I started with oysters (if the oysters aren't bad, they're bound to be good, and the sauce was spot on), and then had the Foie Gras, just because it's going to be illegal---I don't see what the attraction is, it's liver that tastes like very mild liver, but now that it's illegal I'll have to have more of it to fight the Nanny State.  The partner had the warm chevre salad, which he also liked, although I thought it was better at Chez Papa.  For our main course I had the Boeuf Bourgignon and the Partner had the halibut, which he pronounced delightful.  My boeuf bourgignon was decent;  the beef was flavorful and soft, although the sauce seemed a bit thin and there were no mushrooms, but recipes vary by region and I'm no expert on French cooking.  Still, when my own recipe (Julia Child) tastes better than an expensive restaurant dish, I'm never a happy camper.  I want to aspire to restaurant quality, but I want the restaurants to wow me.

We finished with dessert---a Tarte Tatin with pears, and strawberries with black pepper and basalmic, with vanilla ice cream.  The vanilla ice cream was very good, but next time I'd request it on the side of not at all, as the berry/basalmic/pepper combination was a bit overwhelmed by by the ice cream.  The flavors are very subtle and I think that without the ice cream this dessert would have stolen the night's show.  I want to try it at home.

Because another poster brought it up, I'll mention that we were asked if we'd like to move to the window table as it became available (next to us), just as we finished our first glasses of wine.  I had been dying to ask to do so, but since we'd already dusted our table cloth with crumbs I thought, with only one waiter on duty,  it would be rude, so I was most thankful as I don't like having people close by on both sides (what can I say).  We were only asked, it was not a request, and I was thrilled.

Over all, the disconnect between the expense and the level of the food puts this review at two stars.  If the plates had been $20.00, I might have been more enthusiastic.  One can hope the prices are justified by decent wages and perhaps benefits, but still, for that price I expect to be wowed and Wow! was not a word either of us uttered, all night long.

Love love LOVE this place!!! Their mussels are to die for, and their fries are yummy: hot and fresh, crispy and flavourful on the outside, nice and soft on the inside. You can sit inside or outside, no matter how cold it is, they have some nice heaters on their terrace that actually work, so you can sit outside without freezing your ass off.
Great atmosphere inside, very cozy. Friendly and efficient service, and the staff know their shit!
Had the Côtes d'Agneau Grillées, Tomate Montrachet et Gratin Dauphinois (lamb chops), yumm. Get the Moules Poulette to share, we had plenty for 3 of us (2 big guys and me). Next time I am doing a Prix Fixe

Underwhelmed by the brunch; it's kind of like every other brunch place, only out of your way to get to.

Aside from my meal being mediocre, my friend and I were also put off by the server who asked us and two subsequent parties to move to another table on the sidewalk so a party of 4 might sit at the table we wanted. Guess what? A party of 4 never came and so the patio filled up and the next party that came along got the table. If you're going to be picky about the seating, make a sign that says 'Please wait to be seated.'

One pro for Baker Street- since the place is far removed from the general populace, it was not that crowded for a brunch spot.

    Nice little neighborhood gem!

It's small and cozy = definitely make reservations so you're not disappointed and be prepared to rub elbows (literally) with the next table.

The service was excellent. They checked on our table numerous times to make sure our water glasses were continuously filled, asked it we needed more bread when it was down to 2 pieces and took away empty plates to make room for more food on the small tables.

I ordered the prix fix menu for $19
    - small mixed green salad - nothing special
    - Beef tongue and mash potatoes - Tender and delicious! Huge portions. Highly recommended.
    - fresh fruit filo dessert - yummy!

I also ordered escargots in butter. I soaked up the delicious infused butter with baguette :)

They also seated us next to the window and it was great to be so close to the outdoor without being in the cold SF evening breeze.

What can I say? (Qu'est-ce que je peux dire?)

Baker Street Bistro makes the best Pain Perdu (that is Frenchified Toast to us 'mericans) I have ever had. The bread is never soggy or overcooked. It is served with an orange-infused maple syrup, and if that weren't enough, there is a small pool of crème fraîche with a strawberry coulis swirled throughout it (well, usually; today they forgot the strawberry coulis, but who cares, it is still better than anything you can get anywhere else in the City... possibly in all of the U.S. of A. even).

They have other "Brunch" items from which to choose, too; however, if you are going there for the very first time, skip the menu and just order their Pain Perdu supérieure.

If you would like to read a little more detailed take on my breakfast this morning, click on my profile and check out my stupid little breakfastary 'blog.

    Bon appétit!

This place is so quintessentially San Francisco. Good thing you get to make reservations here otherwise we would never have gotten seated.

As you can probably tell from the other reviews, the food is pretty amazing. I got the Oeufs Benedicte (Canadian Bacon, poached eggs, English Muffin, Hollandaise sauce) and Alex A. got the Croque Monsieur (Ham & melted Swiss cheese in toasted pain de mie with béchamel sauce). They were both amazingggg. If you don't like cheese, though, stay away from the Croque Monsieur and the Croque Madame.

For dessert, we got to try the Tarte Tartin à la Poire (Warm pear tart, strawberry coulis) and Crème Brulée with our cousins. The desserts were pretty huge, especially the Crème Brulée. It was so yummy, but I recommend sharing it with your party.

One thing - The service was adequate, but not very good. They were very accommodating with the baby in our party, but they took forever to get us our dessert menu and check.

Always solid, with friendly bistro style service, and wonderful French delights. The French Onion Soup is very hearty, which is how I like it. The Tartare is always a joy, but not too overwhelming a portion, which is great as it gives you an opportunity to try other treats from the menu. Everything is enjoyable, and for what it is (slow, relaxed service and atmosphere), it's perfect.... a cute little local bistro to enjoy when you aren't sure where else to go! =) Thanks for being there, and see you soon, see you again, bonne journee!

Delicious food, very cute restaurant and very professional and courteous service.  We ordered a bottle of champagne at the end of  the meal and it was quite sweet when we tasted it; hot what we were expecting.  Our server said, no problem!  Let me have you try this rose sparkling wine.  That was perfect and we had that bottle instead.  Would definitely come back...the food was fantastic and the portion sizes were VERY generous.  5 stars!

This is a great hidden little gem. The food was good and the ambiance was great. However, for a French-themed restaurant, the decor is a little unfocused and the food is only slightly French-esque.

Anyway, i had a great time here because I was with great company. However, the service was extremely slow and it was pretty hard to get the server's attention. She was nice nevertheless and obviously she was just busy. They should just hire more people during weekend brunch.

I'll probably come back and hopefully they can redeem themselves on the service-front next time.

Note on the restroom: very clean. Though, why is there a chair in there?

Came here last Friday night and boy does it get busy!

Walked in with no reservation at about 6:30pm. Wrong way to go, always make a reservation, luckily for my boyfriend and I, they set up a table next to the counter for us because they didn't want to shove us into the cold.

I ordered the foie gras and the white wine mussels, boyfriend ordered the L'orange and escargot.

The foie gras was the best part of my whole meal, the white wine mussels were meh, each time I picked out the meat of the mussel and bit into it, the shells of the mussels were inside. YUCK, the taste of the mussels weren't something to rave about either. Babe's escargot was subpar and had a weird taste to it. I liked the escargot at ChouChou tho, the truffle oil really masked the dirty taste of escargot. The l'orange was also subpar, too much citrus flavor that did not enhance the plate.

Overall, 4 stars for service but 3-3.5 for the food.

Friendly reminder... MAKE SURE YOU MAKE RESERVATIONS.

Came here before a show at the Palace of Fine Arts Theater.  Pretty small place, so reservations would be a good idea.  It was a cold night and we went early, so they used brought inside the outdoor propane heater which made it pretty warm inside.  Later when more diners arrived, the collective body temperature made things comfortable and they put the propane heaters back outside for winter al fresco dining.

Cluttered French-looking decor.  French-accented wait staff.  Felt like a bistro.

The steak was great.  The mussels in white wine were not only tasty, you got a pretty decently sized portion.  Nice sliced french bread to start.  Absolutely fabulous fries!  They were not pretentious enough to refuse my request for ketchup for my fries.

Tough neighborhood parking.  Be prepared to walk a bit from wherever you find parking.

Another good meal like this, and I'll be awarding a rare four stars.

I was excited to brunch at Baker St. Bistro, a cute little neighborhood place with outdoor seating, a French proprietor, a simple yet delicious brunch menu, and some great company to enjoy my first meal in SF.  The menu consists of a variety of 5 eggs benedict, the croque monsieur or croque madame, a variety of salads and a few entree plates of mussels and a few other options.

We get quickly sat and handed our menus. We wait, we wait a little bit more, we still wait a little bit more (but, all this was somewhat  ok since conversation was flowing and we were having fun albeit being thirsty).  We put in our orders.  The food came out pretty fast. The fruit plate ($9) was fresh and good but teeny tiny and I wasn't impressed.  The boyfriend ordered the croque madame, boasting this may be the best croque madame he has ever had although he pretty much says that daily about almost anything that is really good. Regardless, it was a damn good croque.

My eggs benedict were regular; nothing different or amazing but, the kicker were the potatoes that came with the dish. These potatoes were flavorful yet, they were cold and hard almost inedible (although I did eat them, since I eat everything that is put in front of my face clearly). These babies definitely seemed as if they were sitting around in the back for an hour or so. The coffee was nothing amazing and it took the waitress or bus boy about 30 minutes to come by and actually refill those mugs.  We waited for what seemed to be a lifetime for our check and I finally just went up to the proprietor (who seemed to be the only waitress) and gave her my credit card. I seriously think there was one waitress/hostess and one busser for this busy somewhat largish restaurant.  The service faltered.

Overall the food was at about a 3.5 type meal (I typically round up) but, the service brought this meal down to a solid 3 stars.  I'm a visitor to this delicious city so I have way too many other places to try than to come back to this place again.  Sorry Baker St Bistro, I will not be back not even for that delicious croque madame.

Please, some simple rules. Do not allow reservations if you plan to make people wait. Do not say you will be right with diners, and then make them wait. Do not serve the first course, and then serve the main course more than 45 minutes later. Do not make diners leave their tables to ask staff for assistance. Do not show favoritism to diners you know - the ones you ignore may be continuing customers who now will not return. Do not serve food cool to warm, when it is supposed to be hot. Do not blame the kitchen.

After frequenting the Baker Street Bistro since 1997, we will not go back!

Great lunch, but bring a blanket.  We stopped into the Baker Street Bistro at about 1:45 PM.  There were two other tables occupied.  The service was largely indifferent.  The lunch was great.

The restaurant was very cold.  When I asked about turning on a clearly evident electric heater, I was told that it wasn't working and that the entire building had no heat.  Is someone trying to lower their heating bill?  It is ridiculous to erode a decent restaurant by freezing its customers.  Buy a heater or fix the one mounted on the front of the bar.  Boo!

It's definitely a quaint place. We ate outside on the patio, it was wonderful. We couldn't sit at the table we wanted because it was saved for regulars with dogs. The food was really good and the guy who filled our waters was fast. The french waiter on the other hand was not pleasant at all, very disappointed with the service.

One of the best decisions I've ever made in terms of wandering into a restaurant. Myself and a friend, after a long walk around Golden Gate, decided to step in for lunch, and I was pleasantly surprised to have one of the best confit de canard that I've ever had. Wonderfully crisp skin yet still tender meat coupled with fried potatoes and a stuffed tomato. My friend was extremely satisfied by the croque-monsieur, which was quite large and prepared exactly as I remember them to be in France.

Our waitress was wonderful, constantly checking in on us. I felt very at home, especially because she spoke a blend of Creole and English. Speaking to her in French was a wonderful opportunity to practice the language,  and she was extremely welcoming. Would definitely go again to at least say hello!

2.5 stars. Lovely little spot, great ambiance, cute neighborhood. From the first moment you walk in, the one waiter/hostess/owner? sets the tone with an aggressive "Can I help you?" as if you've pig-headedly wandered into her home.

For brunch, the menu is so petite that what is there better be spectacular- your choices: pain perdu (french toast), mussles, eggs benedict (and variations), salad or croque monsieur (ham/swiss sandwich).

We had: The eggs benedict and the croque monsieur.

Our friends had the eggs florentine and the french toast, so we pretty much had the menu covered (my sandwich came with a salad).

The sandwich was good but nothing to write home about. Ham, melted swiss, butter and fresh bread. The salad was a small bunch of greens with a non-descript almost un-tasteable dressing.

The french toast was apparently decently good, but my friend couldn't stop talking about how disappointing it was to have fancy, expensive french toast without real maple syrup.

The menfolk seemed contented with their eggs.

The french fries *were* spectacular, but that was about all that was. The coffee was strong and flavorful as well.

However, it got quite crowded for a small joint, and apparently the do-it-yourselfer owner/manager doesn't want to pay for another waiter. So there was a lot of waiting on our part, and not a lot of good service on hers. Mostly it was intermittent "I'll get there when I get there" interactions with her, and 30 minutes of empty coffee cups, 50 minutes before our food came sortof experience.

    And the place isn't cheap.

    Wouldn't recommend.

It's a shame. I live close to this restaurant and after a number of tries, I won't go back. The food simply did not pass muster. Not very fresh at all.

The staff is friendly enough, but when you spend a few minutes discussing how you would like your steak prepared, it should be right the first time. We even discussed French v. American preparation, but the steak I got was barely cooked. If I had wanted bleu, I would have asked for bleu. Gross. Bleu is hardly medium well, is it?

My feeling is that this place is tired, and employees are no longer inspired by their jobs. No one really pays any attention to the decor, or to details of food preparation. They get away with phoning it in because of the tourists staying at the hotels on Lombard, and because some people actually speak French on the waitstaff.

Give the place a good interior cleaning, take more care with the food preparation, update the menu, and locals may come back.

Went for a birthday dinner with a party of 4, and from the moment we walked in the door it was almost as if our waiter was offended that we were there.  I'm talking literally uncomfortable, especially since the place is a cozy dining area with maybe 12 tables indoors.

However, despite his service, this place was a great place to have dinner.  Ordered 3 appetizers and each was absolutely delicious, Escargot, French Onion Soup and Oysters.
Everyone I was with thoroughly enjoyed their meals, and for the quality of food it is actually priced relatively affordable.  ($16-$20 plates)

If I could rank the quality of food it would be 5 stars without a doubt, with the service receiving a 1 star.

Maybe the service is part of a French schtick as CJ's review a while ago mentioned, "Service is typically French--a little brusque, slightly hurried, and not all that friendly.  In other words, authentic."

This place is "meh" defined.  Though Baker Street Bistro oozes with Parisian charm, the high prices do not justify the mediocrity of the food.

A few friends and I found ourselves in the area on Saturday night and were able to snag a last-minute reservation.  Between us, we ordered the following:
    - Scallops special
    - Salmon special
    - Lamb Stew
    - Mussels
    - An extra order of fries
    - Profiteroles for dessert

My friends claimed that the lamb stew and the mussels were both very tasty.  For that, I would bump this review up to 2.5 stars, though I didn't try either of the dishes so I can't confirm.

I ordered the scallops and my boyfriend ordered the salmon.  Having tried both of them, I am shocked that the other food was tasty.  My scallops were almost entirely devoid of flavor, and the little taste they had was fishy and unpleasant.  I had 4 scallops on my plate and I could only stomach 1.  My boyfriend's salmon was no better and the portion size was miniscule.  He finished his salmon, then ate the rest of my scallops and declared that they were much better than his salmon.  Poor soul.

The side order of fries was very tasty.  Good thing, too, since this constituted the bulk of my meal (very healthy, I know).

The profiteroles filled with ice cream were delicious.  Very heavy, but delicious.  I recommend them for dessert.

Given the experience, our bill was entirely too high.  I think we paid $30 each, and that does not include appetizers or drinks.  Our meal definitely was not worth that much.

I think it's safe to say that I won't be back.

For a long time, I used to think that going out to eat at a good French restaurant meant having to dress a little nicer than usual and having to double - make that triple - check your bank account.  How sad and ignorant was I in those tender, innocent days...

My jaunts to Baker Street Bistro were often with coworkers in tow since it was one of the few good eateries within a 5 minute drive of where we worked, but from those early "professional-tinged" visits, I have grown increasingly fond of this little place.

This is delicious, simple, everyday French food.  Not the "ooh la la fancy" French cuisine (I know, I need to curb my stereotypes), but the food you'd expect to get if you came across a crowded cafe on a run-down, hidden street in Paris on a late Thursday night.  In other words, solid, everyperson fare that's fresh and well made.

The woman who runs the place is charming and friendly.  The atmosphere fuss-free.  The moules Provençale avec frites (Provencal style mussels with fries for you non french speaking folks out there) lovely.  And if that's not enough for you to give it a try next time you're on the Presidio side of the city, their event specials just might convince you.  Par exemple, Free Dessert Day?  All you can eat moules Provençale avec frites during Bastille Day?  The affordable prix fixe four course dinners during Xmas and NYE?  Sacrebleu!

Fantastic brunch at an incredibly reasonable price! I had an omelette -- cooked so well, creamy and stuffed with goat cheese and tomato. The side of potatoes were just crispy, and the mesclun greens were lightly dressed in a creamy-tangy vinaigrette.

    Cute quaint, french style cafe

Had a simple grilled chicken ceasar salad (chicken was grilled perfectly)

Date had the duck- she was definitely a fan.

I really like this place. I came here  with my mom once when I was younger and decided to go with my friends now that I live in SF.

The food was really good. I got the salmon tartare and the cassoulet, and they were both hella good. It's a bit overpriced for the regular items, but the prix fixe menu is damn good deal.

The desserts are all really good, too.

It has a "a small, intimate Parisian bistro" atmosphere, which is cool for going on a date. Unfortunately for couples having dinner that night, we were being pretty drunk and rowdy =)

I LOVE spot! Cute location in the Marina without the hustle bustle of Chestnut St.

I've only yet gone here for Brunch but everything we've ordered has been delicious.

The Croque Madame is a MUST try. Also, I don't know exactly what they do here but their French Fries are just the BEST. I always get a side order of them when I come here.

Will be coming for dinner at some point.

Recently had brunch here on a Sunday morning. There were 7 of us, but at 9.30am we had no trouble getting a nice outdoor table (that would have been difficult had we turned up any later, especially as they only take reservations for groups of 10 or more).

Service was very good and food was great. I had the french toast, and most people had the eggs benedict (which, strangely enough was served with fries.  I thought this rather odd at 9.30 in the morning!).

Water and coffee refills were good, and we never felt rushed. Another bonus to going early in the morning - parking was easy. How often do you get to say that in the City??
The only negative aspect was the dog sat at the table next to us, yes, AT the table - yuck!

I came here regularly for awhile.  This place is cute, but it's really past its time.  Go to Bistro Central Parc instead; same folks run it, but it's a newer location.

Also, the staff here are not friendly.  The only one who is nice is the woman who works here.

This is a delightful place. I went here with a friend on a week night. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. Oh and the wine, excellent! And the desserts, yummy!

Two points I must make. If you are on a diet, Baker Street Bistro is not the place. And if you are on a tight budget, then you need to wait until you have a bit extra money to splurge on.

Not that the prices are sky high, but if you have some wine with dinner, which I recommend, then be prepared to spend a bit more money.

On my most recent visit, I had the salmon with a ginger, carrot, spinach mixture. So delicious and full of flavor. The chocolate mousse was so good!

And, the onion soup was good too, although it is heavy on cheese. Next time I go back I want to try the salad with the walnut caramelized glazed Feta cheese.

My friend had that and said it was delicious! Perhaps for me one of the best aspects of Baker Street Bistro is to sit outside. I like the way the outdoor seating is set up. It is cozy but not crowded. And, on a nice evening, sitting outside is enjoyable.

Dinner for 4 started out with the restaurant barely full but bursting at the seams within minutes of our arrival.  A happy buzz in a very pleasing space.  Tables are very very tiny so it is a bit of a challenge to manage wine bottle, glass, water after the large entree platters arrive.
I had lamb chops which came out perfectly medium and deliciously flavorful.  Hubby had steak grille which was excellent with the most wonderful frites.  Friends had beef bouguignon and the chops and enjoyed them as well.  Split the mereingue in a custardy sauce with my hubby - he liked, I found it too eggy.

Had a great dinner here last month with the family - we had a great table, fantastic waiter and altogether delicious food. They had a fantastic prix fixe menu that offered 3 courses for $18 plus coffee - one person ordered that while the rest mixed and matched appetizers with entrees on the regular menu. It was very fun with lots of food - their boeuf bourgionon was delightful, as was their salads and soups. Also, great desserts.

This place lives up to the Yelp 3-star moniker -- "A-OK".  That's sort of how I felt after leaving.

The atmosphere is really nice, intimate and cozy, a good place to have a long casual meal with someone.

Food was decent -- didn't blow my mind, but it was satisfying.  I had the duck breast l'Orange.  Duck was overcooked and lacked a good layer of crispy melty fat that really makes duck knock my socks off.

The real annoyances were the service, selection and prices.  Service was slow and our waiter just had that forced, fake style of waiting that makes my skin crawl.  Many of the items on the menu were not available, including the duck confit, which was my original choice.

AND NOTE BENE: the prices are about $2-3 dollars more than listed on their menu online.  You'll mostly be paying in the $20-$22 range for an entree (more for specials), and this was a bummer for us b/c we picked it thinking most would be under $20.

Been here twice now and I crack up everytime. (will explain shortly)

First of all this is one of the closest restaurant to Palace of Fine Arts / Exploratorium.  So if you are looking for a place to dine before an evening show / event, definitely check it out.  You can park around here, eat then walk over to Palace of Fine arts / Exploratorium quite easily.

Cute french restaurant with real French server (not sure if he's the owner?)

Their early dinner pre fixe menu (for $18.50) is a REAL BARGAIN.

Four of us went and we all decided to have the prefixe menu.

Baguette & butter. Your standard fare.

Soup of the day: Cauliflower soup.  A little spicy and a little bland but not bad.

Main: Pork chop with white beans.  Nothing spectacular but not bad either.  It was cooked just right.  Oh and it came with a side of salad.

Dessert: Chocolate Mouse cake with cream and strawberries.  How can you ever go wrong with chocolate?

The portions were JUST RIGHT for a pre fixe menu.  Their non pre-fixe entrees looked a lot bigger - but with 3 courses we really didn't need any more food than what was given to us.

Now for the fun part.  If you like medium to sweet white wine, be sure to ask "What are your sweeter wines?".  He'll say "We have no sweet wines".  (last time I went with some girlfriends he elaborated and said that only dessert wines are supposed to be sweet - with a face that could be interpreted as "you ignorant americans" haha)

Basically if you like your white wine sweet / medium - you are out of luck.  So unless you want to be told no, don't bother asknig.  OR ask the question, just to hear his response above. It's actually pretty funny.

Was here for brunch after nabbing some cute dresses from a sample sale.  I was definitely on a shopping high, but the wait at BSB brought it down low.

It was packed inside, so we were seated outside.  Took a few minutes for the menu and water.  Another 10 or so for the bread.  Another 20 to get our order.  I get it, it's a small restaurant, and you're not used to all this traffic.  You have one busboy and one waitress.  But...I was hungry.

What seems like an hour later (and probably was), we finally got our food.  Florentine benedict and an omelet.  Not hard, but the kitchen was obviously backed up.  We devoured the dishes in less than 15 minutes and asked for the check.

In fear of another half hour late, we dropped cash and got out of there as quickly as we can.

Definitely a different experience this second time around.

    Damage for two: $30

So friendly and the food is always great. Our son, who's 29 mos, loves it and service is so accommodating for families. This is a staple.
