San Francisco, CA
I'm in love with this place. The carrot cake cupcake is divine. If I could marry it, I would - but since I can't, I'm having them make the cupcakes for my wedding in May. Blame it on that cupcake. The chocolate one didn't help either - perfection. We had just come from Cups and Cakes (which is pretty darn yummy on it's own) and I was concerned that I couldn't stomach another cupcake, but one bite and I was intoxicated. 2 days later, I was dreaming about the lemon torte that I saw in the display case........I waited a few more weeks and I couldn't take it any more - I was a woman obsessed. The fiance got the vanilla bean cheesecake. I was lucky enough to get a little bite and was in bliss heaven. The lemon torte with the blueberries and perfect shell of baked-ness.......well, words just don't do it justice.
As for the comments about the service - I have never had that experience. My emails are responded to with politeness and promptness. I've always been greeted with graciousness. Sometimes I think people just come on yelp to write nasty reviews. I don't know. -

When I was eating the Walnut Butterscotch Blondie I wasn't thinking about anything else. Not the Middle East. Not gender inequalities. Not how stupid my hair looks. Definitely not bills and how I need to pay my PG&E. I was completely engulfed in butter sugar heaven.
If I could bottle the smell inside of Baked, I would, and keep it for hard times. Speaking of hard times, the tip jar doesn't go to Baked, but to an English Bulldog rescue. Precious and thoughtful. -

No matter how good the baked goods are at Baked (and they are really good), this dude cannot abide rude behavior--especially if you're in the customer service industry.
I understand that we can't all be people persons, but seriously, folks--either feign interest in your clients, or call it a day. As it stands, I can't be bothered to return. Which is a pity since it's in my neighborhood, and I'm a huge Potrero booster. -

I walked into the tiny, tiny, tiny store with enough room for two people to fit comfortably with the door closed, and the lady behind the counter turns her back to me which I thought was odd. I order a chocolate chip cookie. My friend walks in as she tells me the price so I couldn't hear her. I apologized and asked for the price again. She says it in a monotoned voice without a smile nor a twinkle in her eye. My friend said the lady behind the counter is rude. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and said she must be having a bad day....I'm probably wrong.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Review: please increase your chocolate chip and cookie ratio. There isn't enough cookie.
BAKED, please cheer up. Whatever is going on in your life to cause you to seem so unhappy is going to affect your business at the rate you're going. I understand that sometimes life gives us unsatisfactory moments, but maybe hiring someone to fill in the happiness and the joy of selling tasty desserts will benefit both you and your customers/business. -

Included within the lovely stretch of restaurants in Potrero Hill, Baked is nestled quite simply in the middle of it all; offering a small array of sweets and confections, with their red devil cupcake being the most popular.
Being that I'm kind of a nut for anything pumpkin, I opted for the pumpkin praline cupcake which was moist and not overly sweet. It was difficult to choose over, as I was salivating over the individual sized cheesecakes as well. I'm sure I'll return for a bite. I also had a chance to taste the chocolate tart, which was pretty good.
This bakery is tiny. In and out service. The outdoor tree seating was perfect for me to gobble it all down. -

Red devil cupcake: moist cake but frosting was overly sweet
Chocolate chip cookie, butterscotch oatmeal cookie: solid, they are huge!
Banana cake: moist
The baker is extremely unfriendly. I came in to buy some sweet treats with my toddler who had licked the display case while I was making my selections. I pointed it out and apologized. The baker rolled her eyes, said she noticed and disgruntled, grabbed her Windex to clean the display case.
Plenty of great baked goods in the city that come with a smile so no need to come back here. -

COME FOR GREAT BAKED GOODS, JUST DON'T BOTHER THE BAKER!
Feel the need to put my review in to balance perspectives for a bit of culinary justice and fairness!
For context, here are the goodies I indulged in today:
RED DEVIL CUPCAKE WITH CREAM CHEESE FROSTING, and
VANILLA BEAN CHEESECAKE
I also bought the lemon ricotta cake but sadly didn't have a chance to steal a taste from my friend!
For added context: I've had cupcakes from Baked at least twice before, and they were also CONSISTENTLY YUMMYLICIOUS!
WHAT'S TO LOVE?
- The red devil cake was so moist and tender and velvety rich. I'm feeling so good just remembering the taste of it in my mouth!
- And the cream cheese frosting is amazing--a well-rounded creamy rich flavor that satisfies your taste buds beyond just sweet.
- As for the vanilla bean cheesecake, it was dense & rich, and the bottom crust is to die for!
LET THE BAKER BE!
Let's be straight and fair folks--the baked goods here are awesome! Let's not have the service taint the ratings of the goods. The baker here, she's sullen, she's not interested in chit-chat, she just wants to bake. Come on--she doesn't even have stools for folks to sit around! And in my book, that's okay. Not everyone has to be Prozac happy. My baker can be as sour as she wants to be--as long as she keeps creating her delightful cakes! If sweet service is a must for you, and lack of it will taint your enjoyment of the goods--then you'll be better off elsewhere. But if you can look past the service and enjoy the goods for what they are, Baked is a wonderful little place. -

I just came from Baked a few hours ago and I was not impressed. I have a very open mind when it comes to reviewing businesses, and I'm not quick to give out one or two stars, but I was disappointed that I had driven 20 minutes to get here, only to receive such impersonal customer service. The lady behind the counter must have been having a bad day not only because she did not acknowledge us upon entering the store, but she just stood there asking, "What else? What else? What else?" when I was picking out my cupcakes.
The cupcakes themselves were OK; I would have gladly driven another 5-10 minutes to one of the many nearby bakeries/cupcakeries. What really topped off my unpleasant experience was that after spending nearly $40 worth of cupcakes which were packed in plain white boxes, I politely asked if we could have a box with their "Baked" logo on it (hey, I'm doing YOU a favor for offering free advertising!), the lady said, "That's only for cake orders."
Really? REALLY? With so many wonderful and delicious surrounding bakeries, you really should provide better customer service because that is what keeps customers coming back. I don't care if you sold magical diet cupcakes that helped people lose weight, I will not return. (Well, maybe I'd get them to go.) -

I was so excited to see a small shop in this district.
Got the cookie and cream cupcake, s'mores cookie, chocolate brownie, peanut butter cookie, and butterscotch cookie.
Everything the fiance and I had was mediocre at best. Being a baker myself, I love buying goodies and supporting bakeries. But I think most of the stuff I can make is better than BAKED... -

BAKED lady baker, sry you suck!!!
I walked in here to eyeball your goodies and you just looked at me, didn't
say anything, let alone smile, and gave me the dirtiest glare and just walked away. WTF!!!??? What the hell did I do to you??!! Fine then.. be that way!!! Sorry your sweet-looking goodies are now sour and tainted by your rude service. Needless to say, I walked right out.
Maybe you need to be BAKED so you could crack a smile.Listed in: J'ADORE BAKERIES!!!, my sir sucksalot reviews..

A small but cute place. I'm not usually in this area but glad I stopped by. The peanut brittle and fresh granola caught my attention. The display case houses the baked goods nicely and in an organized manner. I was instantly drawn to the scones the almond scone was delicious. It went really well with my coffee. My friend got a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie and it was a good sized. It was like eating a Reese's pieces peanut butter cup. The peanut butter was just right and the cookie was not too sweet. I liked the look of the cupcakes and mini cakes. I have to come back and try the asiago cheese scone which I was told has no sugar. A savory scone - what a concept. Service was quick and I got my treats and got out.

Such a wonderful little store in the middle of funky shops and good eateries in Portrero Hill. I've only eaten one thing from this delectable bakery but I wanted to try all the little confections. The prices were great for what you get. The cookies didn't look as if they lacked love or hearty portions so I will definitely be back for more. Maybe one of their peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies - yum!
I had the Maple blondie.... O.M.Gleefully me. It was amazing and HUGE! -

My studio has more space (barely), but Baked has a KitchenAid mixer on the counter making awesome things like oatmeal butterscotch cookies. Your call which place is better. No offense if you choose cookies.
Service was uninterested (as in not sure she cared I was there), but the goodies were worth it. -

Baked is Bunk!
We went there this morning to purchase a few cakes for our friend's/co-worker's birthday. Needless to say, I dreaded the whole experience. The owner/baker of this establishment is simply a complete sn@tch. Her total lack of civility will forever keep me from patronizing this place. It's too bad for her because I like to spend money and have no problem doing just that. From now on I will go across town to Thorough Bread (Church and Market) to purchase my delectables. If you are smart and do not like being treated like sh!t. You will avoid this place at all costs. -

While we were waiting to eat at Chez Maman we noticed this cute little bake shop and stepped in. Its super tiny inside but as soon as you walk you notice the display cases in front of you....the cakes and cupcakes looked so delicious!!!!! Loved the smaller sizes of the cakes...my friend and I shared red devil cupcake ---so good and oh so cute frosting on top! I'll be back next time I'm in the hood.

I had high hopes for these two pretty little cakes. Guess what? Rigid, dry tasteless cake.
One star cause its cute and close. -

Friend recommended me to come, so I did.
There weren't that many flavors available, and the cupcakes were just okay. The cake itself was moist, but I didn't really like the cream frosting. A bit expensive for a small cupcake too. -

Walking down the street and a craving hit. "Let's go get baked!!" I exclaimed, and realized how silly that was as people passing gave me a smirk.
But seriously, what a great place! The woman was sweet and even laughed at my baked joke, though I'm sure she hears it all the time.
I had the
-red devil: three layer red devil cake, filled w/cream cheese covered w/ vanilla buttercream and covered with red devil crumbs
-carrot cake: three layer spiced carrot cake filled with cream cheese, covered in vanilla buttercream and covered in pecan praline
-2 chocolate tarts, one with rasberries, one with fresh cream.
DELICIOUS!!!!!
I couldn't enjoy it slow enough.
I truly and thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. -

For the cake alone, this place gets 5 stars. But they lose one star each for the customer service and the frosting.
I've tried their red devil, the devil, banana cream, and peppermint chocolate. For all of them, the cake was so moist and delicious. Hands down one of the best I've tasted. However, I found myself separating out the cake from the frosting because their frosting was way to dense for me. All I could taste was butter and nothing else.
Their shop is really cute. The cakes are well decorated and reasonably priced. However, their customer service could be better. I walked in one morning and there was one person working. She didn't greet me or even acknowledge my presence. I kinda cleared my throat and tried to get her attention. I usually like to ask for recommendations but I didn't here. I just placed my order and left.Listed in: Cakes, Cupakes, Bakeries!

I wanted a sweet little bakery with super tasty treats walking distance from my apartment so much. So much.
But I'm just not feeling any of it... the cookies, the cupcakes, the bread pudding... honestly, at this point, I'm just kind of tired trying stuff hoping I finally find something I actually like. Slightly below average flavor and a lot of dryness have been pretty common threads.
The same woman has been working each time I've been and while she's not unwelcoming exactly, it's not a really enjoyable experience or anything. I've tried to talk about the menu, find out what she thinks is worth trying, but she doesn't seem all that interested. And hasn't made a good recommendation yet.
On a positive note, the cakes are adorably-sized. $10 mini-ish cakes that would be a nice addition to a dinner party. For looks, anyway. -

First off, love the name ;-)
Baked, couldn't you have gotten a sweeter person to work the cashier? The few times I've been it's the same grumpy baker who barely cracks a half grin. Your cupcakes aren't good enough to make up for the lackluster customer service. -

Me: What's your favorite cupcake?
Baker: I don't like sweets.
You have to baked to like the cupcakes here - they taste like those fake ones you see on display. -
Review from amii c.
Strawberry muffin topped with cinnamon streusel: light, moist, and unexpected. Berries tasted fresh, not overly sweet and processed like fruit often is in baked goods. I wouldn't order a strawberry muffin, or a strawberry anything from a bakery, but I'm glad the bf did because I got to sample his and this is not a muffin anyone should ever pass up.
Walnut butterscotch blondie: dense, full of caramel, toffee, and burnt sugar flavor, chewy, moist, and incredibly sweet. I believe the walnuts were candied. Quire an incredible blondie.
Chocolate cupcake with oreo buttercream frosting: as a gourmet cupcake addict, I'm used to the super light and fluffy frostings that grace most local artisan cupcakes. The thick, almost ice cream-like texture of this frosting both surprised and didn't suit me. It tasted finely made with high quality ingredients, but it simply was not the texture I prefer on top of my cupcakes. The chocolate cake itself was pretty good, which is a rarer occurrence than one might expect.
Service was not too friendly, but the prices were cheap especially when the deliciousness factor of the sweets are weighed in, so we'll be back to try everything this bakery has to offer. A lot of items were sold out when we went in the afternoon, so those must be even yummier than what we tried. -

After lunch at nearby Umi, we wandered around and encountered Baked. Everything looked delicious but the workers weren't overly friendly. They didn't seem very interested when I said their fruit tarts looked amazing or was tittering about their brownies. I usually don't purchase from non-interested vendors but their cupcakes were so unusually frosted, I couldn't resist the chocolate with mocha buttercream.
My friend had the red velvet. I should have gone with my instinct. I wasted calories on a cupcake bordering on dry. The frosting was fine but a bit hard and since I didn't want that much frosting, I ended up tossing most of it after having one "petal" from the frosting "flower."
Maybe I should have gotten one of the amazing looking fruit tarts. -

I'm now officially addicted to YELP, reviewing everyday, should go to rehab.
Anyway this place has a strange vibe. It is very small the woman at the counter is also the baker. It sounds like a dream, who wouldn't want to own a small place where one bakes and then directly sells what one made? it sounds like the dream. But in reality - when you have this kind of place the character of the baker, who is also the manager, server and actually everything - is all. Here it just doesn't work. I almost felt like I was disturbing her baking. I was the only costumer there, and still if felt like she'd liked me to decide prior to entering what I want. Well I actually decided, but what written in their online menu doesn't fit what they have in stock.
I took the caramel brownie. Nothing special. I also took the banana tea-cake, but after the disappointment of the brownie, I'm not so keen on trying the tea-cake.
I guess the conclusion is don't go there, unless you are really in the area. -
Review from Wilhelm Y.

It's probably a good thing that I tried their brownies first because as it turned out that was the highlight of the Baked goods.
The Dark Chocolate Brownie (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) was filled with chocolate chips and when we cut into it it was like cutting into a gooey block of fudge. The dark chocolate flavor was very intense and the brownie was super moist.
The Peanut Butter Chocolate Brownie (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) was very good too with the only difference being that this one had peanut butter chips instead of dark chocolate chips. I thought the pockets of peanut butter were too far apart as the amount of chips weren't as generous in this as they were in the regular chocolate brownie.
My friend is allergic to chocolate so I picked up a Butterscotch Blondie (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) for her. Oh no! It turns out she is allergic to nuts too. Good thing her sister caught on before she could take a bite. The butterscotch flavor was quite faint and not recognizable as butterscotch. It had more maple flavor than it did butterscotch. It was packed with crunchy walnuts though. The cookie portion was good and moist but not fudgey like the brownies.
The cookies that we sampled were a bit more disappointing. These were huge and heavy four inch cookies that were about an inch thick. I flung one across the room to a friend's boyfriend who knocked it down and eventually fumbled it. We were amazed how sturdy it was as it only cracked in half.
The Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) was pretty good, but the peanut butter flavor wasn't convincing enough. The moist cookie was lacking both in that and in the amount of chocolate chips present.
The Mocha Chocolate Chip Cookie (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) had zero to no mocha flavor. If it was in there it was very faint. The amount of chocolate chips was better than in the peanut butter version but the cookie was drier and not as moist. This one, in fact, was quite crumbly. I'm glad I didn't choose to throw this one in the air because it would have been a mess to clean up.
The Butterscotch Oatmeal Cookie (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) was awesome if you disregarded the fact that there was supposed to be butterscotch flavor in it. It suffered from the same traits as the butterscotch brownie flavor-wise, but the cookie itself was super chewy and packed with oatmeal. I would have liked a piece to have with cold milk instead of tea and coffee, but the guests seemed to like this one the most as it was quickly devoured.Listed in: Bakery Fresh

I hate writing bad reviews, but I've been here so many times and gotten consistently sucky customer service. The lady at the register was super annoyed by my son who was so excited about the cupcakes. Aren't kids a big part of her clientele in PHill? I will not be going back here.

I first reviewed this place 2 years ago and have since been going back. I blame you baked for my weight problem! lol
So a couple weeks ago we were invited to dinner at a friends house. We stuffed ourselves during dinner and then we broke up two mini cheescakes and two apple crumb tart thing. Just one of each should have been enough. It was a pumpkin cheesecake that was light and fluffy.
Good lord it was good. We killed all four. At one point we looked down and said omg we ate it all. Yes its that good.Listed in: Top Restaurants

The brownies are like fudge, one is enough to share with three - four people. Oatmeal butterscotch cookies are alright, probably my favorite thing here. The peanut butter cup cookies seem like they would be really good, but aren't quite as satisfying as they look.

Review from Jen L.
You know the cake is good when its shiny moistness peeks out at you under a fluffy cloud of frosting. Their banana cupcake with cream cheese frosting is PERFECT - not as dense as that of Icing on the Cake in Los Gatos, but softer and more flavorful, sprinkled with almond slivers. The peanut butter brownie is also delicious - melty and moist, not too sweet.
Our cashier was cordial, and we got to watch a batch of buttercream frosting being whipped right in front of us. The store is tiny but manages to stimulate all of my senses. I can't wait to come back! -

I'm still dreaming about these brownies a week later. Dense, melt-in-your-mouth, fudgey goodness with a flaky outer layer-- everything I could ever want in a brownie, and possibly more. I was unimpressed by the heath cookie, which was huge but too sweet. The red velvet cupcake was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. All the goodies are baked in the (tiny) store, so inventory is limited. Many items were sold out by the time I showed up (around 6pm).

$2 cupcakes in this cute and small bake shop!!! I never knew this place was just a few doors down from Chez Papa Bistro!!!
Aww too bad they only had one non-chocolate flavor that day... vanilla. :( I really wished they had more cupcake flavors!!
Cupcake: Decent size for $2. Cake part was a little bit dry, but I actually ate it a day after I bought it. Unfortunately, the frosting was what I wasn't too crazy about. As I bit into the cupcake, I felt like I was eating into five round balls of butter instead of frosting. =\ More flavors and lighter frosting, I can see this as a four or even five star soon! :)
OMG! Did you see their souffle size cakes for $8.95!? O_O
I really can't wait to try more of their baked goods here!!! Scones, tea cakes, cookies galore!! :DListed in: This is SF, Let's eat cake!, i look like a cupcake...

I used to think this place was never open until going to dinner early this past Friday. I'd usually hit up 18th street on weekdays to avoid the wait at Chez Maman and Baked was always closed.
So finally we got to try this place. The chocolate cupcake was good but the Oreo icing was boring. The banana bread was good and the peanut brittle was too.
Three and a half stars for now - good but not the most amazing baked goods I've had in SF. I'll give them another go soon given the reviews and suggestions though! -
Review from Lolia S.
San Francisco, CA
It's the kind of place you want to like - tiny with an open kitchen, goods made from scratch, and reasonable prices. She was in the middle of melting butter when I stepped in and I could see some frosted cupcakes on the counter. The cases held thick cookies ($1.50), 2 kinds of scones, 2 kinds of muffins, carrot cake, fruit tarts, mini loaves of tea bread ($1.50), brownies, and 4 types of cupcakes ($2). They also offer coffee, granola and thumbprint cookies (35 cents each). The selection isn't huge but you know it comes straight from the cozy kitchen you see.
Cupcake selection:
* Vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream frosting
* Vanilla cake with milk chocolate frosting
* Chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting
* Chocolate cake with mocha frosting
The pumpkin tea bread is nut free. It was moist and had some pumpkin flavor but it didn't have much spice. I like my pumpkin items much zestier.
The vanilla cupcake with strawberry frosting was adorable - pink frosting applied neatly with a pastry tip and white chocolate curls. The strawberry buttercream frosting on my cupcake was nice, creamy and soft but it had too much butter. Though I saw some strawberry chunks in the frosting, the strawberry flavor was weak. The cake was definitely dry with little vanilla flavor.
I hope this cute, friendly little place sticks around. I'd like to try the cheese scone and a cookie next time. It's too small for tables and chairs, making it strictly takeout.
