Three words: Awesome fish tacos!

Baja Burrito serves some of the best fish taco you can find outside of SoCal and Baja.  The burritos are good too, but I keep going back for fish tacos.

The service is quick, the prices are good, and they have a good patio for warm summer evenings.  Tip: if you want a to-go order, fax an order and it will be waiting for you when you arrive.  No waiting in lunch or dinner rush lines!

The parking lot can seem crowded but I've always managed to find a parking spot.

Let me begin by saying I've eaten at Baja countless number of times...the food for the most part is excellent.  Didn't have the greatest experience on my last visit...but that has since been resolved.

I'm sure I'll be back in the future for the fish tacos..

I'm proud to say I found where the pretentious 20-something douches of Nashville go to eat.  They'd been elusive up until now....in fact, they were about as hard to spot as a single flea in a mansion of carpet....very difficult.  However, I can say with definite certainty, that they love Baja Burrito.

Walking in, I saw that the clientele was probably mostly people in their early 20s....all had sunglasses on inside.  In fact, the hilarious  thing was that one of them kept her sunglasses on inside, but once she went outside she took them off.  WTF?  Really?  Surely, I wasn't cool enough to eat here.

To the food, though.  I've been to most of the major burrito restaurants int he area.  This includes Salsaritas, Blue Coast, and Moe's.  I can say that this one had the worst burrito of the 4.  Sad, because I did want to like it, I really did.   However, it just wasn't up to par.  The portion of meat was lacking on my chicken burrito compared to other places.  The rice just didn't taste as good (and I LOVE rice, so this is freakin' important to me).  And really, the atmosphere blew.  While yes, they do try extremely hard to give it an authentic California vibe, it just seems tacky..and did I mention that it didn't seem to have A/C and was about 85 degrees inside?

The one good thing though...their queso was awesome.  However, their chips were not.  So does it really matter if their queso is good if the food you put the queso on isn't that great??  Probably not.  Here's the order of burrito places in Nashville, by preference:

1)  Salsaritas
2)  Moe's
3)  Blue Coast
4)  Baja Burrito

I've had a lot of Mexican food in my life, but this place is just mediocre. Bad salsa, and I'm a firm believer that you can judge a mexican dining establishment by their salsa. It's not bad, but it's not that good either.

I really wanted to try this place based on Michael W.'s review. I knew as a fellow California transplant, that reviewer's idea of good burritos would be similar to my own....

My husband and I tried it for lunch yesterday. Right off I liked the energy-things were hopping, the music was good, and it reminded me of some place I'd find near the beach.

I got a veggie burrito on whole wheat. The Hubz got something with chicken, and we both got a side of chips and HORCHATA!!!

First- I asked the burrito lady for the hottest sauce they had. She heaped on salsa roja while telling me it wasn't that hot. Sorry. Boo. But, not everyone has a stomach of steel like I do. I did find a bottle of habenero at least.

Second-The horchata was pretty awesome. A little gritty near the end, but evenly flavored otherwise. Free refills.

Third-Perfectly salty chips. Yums.

Fourth. Lot of burrito. I couldn't finish it. You can add in whatever you want. They also let you know what's vegetarian and what isn't on the menu so I didn't have to guess.

Fifth-Free chiclets!

Minus one star for not hot salsa and according to my husband, bland flavor.

Great Mexican place.  Great ingredients, with your food made in front of you to order.  Can get a little crowded at lunch and dinner, but the food is worth the wait.  Has an outside patio.  Parking can be a little hairy, but it's all worth it for the great food.

The other evening, my wife and I ate there for the first time since the original owner returned to run the place.

During the Spring and Summer, we like to get salads with steak, and we went there Monday night to do so.  To our surprise, the salad actually had barbecued brisket instead of steak.  I love brisket, but not when I want a steak salad.  I cannot give it 5-stars because of that and because the portions have been reduced.  I noticed the to go boxes have shrunk as well.

Still, all in all, it's a good place to eat dinner.  We ate outside and enjoyed the gentle breeze, being lucky enough to finish just before the sky opened up.

I must say, I'm impressed. As a San Diego transplant I've got a pretty clear idea of what I think a burrito should look like, taste like, smell like, feel like. Let's just say I've eaten my fair share and I am an understander of burritoism. I've had good ones, bad ones, strange ones, burritos have been lovingly placed in front of me by waiters, thrust at me in paper bags from drive-thru windows, and handed to me at roach coaches. In summary, I have been known to like a burrito.

I like Baja Burrito. They take a bit of artistic license. I had a BBQ brisket burrito. I wanted to hate it. I should have hated it. This place presumes to invoke the Holy Land of Baja California, for Pete's sake.

But it was good. The meat was sumptuously tender and balanced sweet-savory like you'd expect from the South. They offer a number of gimmicky tortillas (Chipotle, Spinach, whole wheat--go for it if you want to score yourself some gringo points.) But bottom line: a very fulfilling burrito experience.

The salsa bar is a plus, with a number of types to choose from, ranging from mild verde (green tomatillo) to spicy red. And, wonder of wonders, they have horchata (pronounced or-CHOT-tah). If you've never tried this sweetened, spiced rice-water concoction, I implore you to do so.

I wish yelp would let me award 4.5 stars, because I really think that, by Nashville standards, this is the best non roach-coach burrito you'll get in town.

I can't believe anyone would give this place a bad review.  The food is amazing and it's CHEAP!  The line out the door that ebbs and flows should tell you something - people don't wait in line for bad food, you know?

I've always been a Maximum Burrito kind of girl (rice and beans) or a taco salad with their tasty vinaigrette dressing, but I recently tried the Fish Tacos.  In a word: YUM!!!  I even posted up on facebook about how delicious they were and was immediately chastised by many friends for not already knowing this secret!  Well shame on me, because they're now my favorite item.  Try the pineapple salsa on your burrito - it's definitely one of their stand-out flavors.

If I had a complaint, I would say that the place is usually a little dirty.  They're so busy making burritos that cleaning tables slips to the bottom of their to-do list.  Just don't go wearing nice clothes, or you may be upset when you dip your elbow in some salsa!

this place is cool.

this really is a better alternative to the chains where you can get the same type of produce, and you'll be supporting your city when you eat here. my favorite bit is the pineapple salsa. hooooooly shit, it's good! the stuff here is a bit americanized, as you should expect, but it's good all the same.

prepare to be surrounded by dudes with pants tighter than the ones your girlfriend was wearing when you first approached her, though. not that there's anything wrong with that. [/seinfeld]

These burritos be huge! I immediately liked the vibe of this small, funky deli-style burrito place. The people here are all types, the inside is bright and relaxed, and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

I had a shredded chicken burrito with the chipotle wrap and my boyfriend went with the steak. The chicken was good, just a little bland and the steak was delish. I loved that I could tell them to cover my burrito with fresh cilantro and jalapenos...I crave jalapenos! I got the chipotle wrap because it sounded awesome but the only size it came in was large which was way too much food for one person. I highly recommend sticking with the small, you just don't need to push your stomach there. Overall the ingredients were fresh and quality, but my only complaint is that my burrito was not very warm. They steam press it or something, but the heat was only fleeting. However, I did go right before close so that probably had something to do with it.

They have Negra Modelo and other Mex beers available, and a nice salsa and lime wedge bar where I can indulge my need to try a bit of everything. I LOVED their tomatillo salsa. It was perfection. I would agree with another reviewer that there salsa roja was not spicy enough, but I'm a spice junky so meh. Anywho, just get the tomatillo (green salsa) and you'll be happy. We also ordered the queso which was average, but totally unnecessary considering the ginormous burrito sitting in front of my face.

I would recommend going here for a casual lunch or dinner with friends, grabbing some good Mex beers with lime, and chowing down on a burrito (though I hear their fish tacos are killer too).

The best meal Ive ever eaten every time I go.

Ive been away from Nashville for 4 years now and it still dominates my mind, espicially late morning when the first lunch-related hunger starts to set in.   I should mention here that I have spent the last 4 years in San Diego, at the top of the Baja peninsula, and my exhaustive search of the area to date has failed to find anything close to this Nashville gem.

I regularly have Baja related dreams and have accepted that this will continue the rest of my life.

Im seriously considering shaping my career plans around Nashville, a decision at least 80% related to this restaurant.

Im going to stop this review there, don't want any comments on actual menu items/atmosphere to detract from the intensity of my praise.

It's a great departure from the chains, and they have a lot of variety in the tortillas as well as the meat selections.  Parking's a bit dicey when it's crowded, but if you're a die-hard burrito fan and want something a little more local, this is your place.  Next time, I'll have to try the fish tacos....

You could go to Qdoba or Baja Fresh but in my opinion you wouldn't get the variety or choice that you find at Baja Burrito. I love having burritos MY way rather than with the combination of ingredients on a menu.

The set up here is you walk in choose between a large or small burrito (the small is usually all I can handle) then a choice of pinto or black beans, then you can add cheese, lettuce, salsa, guacamole, pico de gallo, queso, onions, jalapeños, etc. Their queso is a yellow cheese rather than white. I love getting the burrito to go, they fill the paper bag with chips and you can grab some pico on your way out the door.

The parking is usually hell and the line is almost always long. It's definitely worth it, especially to sit outside on a nice summer night.

Assembly line in their approach, Baja gets a thumbs up for most unique way to get a burrito. They're located next to Sam and Zoe's in Berry Hill, and there is parking in the back just off of Heather Pl. if you can't find a spot out front.

Once you get in line, the magic happens. I usually order a combo so I can get my soda on, and then you get to tell these sweethearts what you want and what you don't want on your burrito, but this is a far shot from fast food. You can see the ingredients in front of you, they're fresh, and when you say no cheese, they don't put cheese on it. Yes! You're certainly going to get to know your neighbor, with the seats this-close to one another, but I'd say it's forgivable. I'm too busy stuffing my face to care.

I'd say this is one of the best values in town. I can never finish my burrito, and get to lovingly re-wrap it, take it home and let it ripen for later, where it tastes awesome all over.

Hands down my favorite place like this in town!  Everyone talks about the burritos, which are wonderful, but being quasi-vegetarian I appreciate the peasant plate.  It comes with beans (black beans for me) & shredded cheese, rice, lettuce, guac, pico, and whatever else you want to add - I like lots of fresh cilantro.  And then it also comes with a side of chips or wraps.  Totally cheap - I think with tax & all it's around $4.50.

Love the salsa bar, and definitely try the local paletas if you get a chance!

Baja Burrito is a tiny building, but it's easy to spot: There's always a line out the door and by the street, you'll see an old VW Bug with weeds growing out of it. The burritos are the best in Nashville. The line usually moves fast, so don't let the crowd deter you. Baja is best as a summer/spring/fall place... The patio is ideal, and indoor seating is almost claustrophobic. If you choose to sit inside, be prepared to be sitting within a foot of someone else. It's all done "Subway" style, meaning you walk up, tell them what kind of tortilla you want, and then you pick your burrito innards. This is really great for someone like me, who really only likes having the meat, cheese, and beans, so I don't have to hold up the line saying "no onions, no guacamole" etc.

It's surprisingly cheap, and the salsas are just as good as the burritos. My only complaint is that they aren't open on Sundays!

Bar none this is one of my most favorite restaurants in town. It's a simple concept really, burritos, burritos, burritos. I have tried all the corporate counter parts around town and they are CRAP!!!  Always crowded, Baja Burrit is pure yum, with a side of " Oh, my god this is so good", dipped in "oh baby, where have you been all my life?"

Here's how it works. You stand in a line and peruse the menu. Once you hit the first guy, you order the size burrito you want, small or regular. I get a small because that is pretty ginormous. Then you pick chicken or beef, rice or not, black beans or re fried. Finally, you get to the glorious toppings- cilantro, onion, guac(.50 extra), cheese, jalapenos, pico, oh mama, yes please! By the time you get through the line, your burrito is about 3 inches around.

They have some sort of concoction for fruit tea that just totally works with the burritos. It's worth getting the combo because it comes with chips and they have a fresh salsa bar. The fire roasted is my favorite! It's about $7 a person for all this yumminess and even less for kids. It's always busy but understandably so.

Baja Burrito wins some serious points in my book for quality of ingredients and size of the burrito.  They have some of the tastiest beans and chicken that I have had.  The quality is right up there with Chipotle.  I really like that they give you the option to select different types of tortillas, as most places only offer one type.  Also, they also have pineapples that you can put in your burrito, which also wins some points in my book.  As with most places they charge extra for Guacamole, but I consider it to be one of the most crucial ingredients that goes into making a good burrito.  Caution: mixing pineapple and Guacamole can be a dangerous combination and ultimately leads to a funky texture which resonates throughout your mouth and (about an hour later) your stomach!

Overall this is a great burrito place.  It is pretty hard to miss, as they have an old VW bug that is always parked in front of the restaurant.  Did the owner drive it up from Mexico?  Who knows.

I just have to add my two cents. This is the best Mexican food I have had in Nashville. The fish tacos were wonderful and as fresh as it gets. I have ordered fish tacos at countless Mexican restaurants, and sometimes the fish can be soggy and bland. Not here! I don't know anyone who's had a bad meal here.

Don't let the line out the door and spilling into the parking lot scare you. And there will be one. The employees know how to move! I've never had to wait a long time. Menu options are pretty basic Mexican, but they have something for everyone. And you can doctor it up with your own toppings, different salsas, and the whole nine yards.

They have a great beer menu. Much more than your basic Bud Light. Not that I have anything against Bud Light! But, the list is pretty extensive, so be adventurous!

In short, if you haven't been, GO! If you I have been then I don't have to tell you to go back!

Definitely five starts just because it's fresh, fast, cheap and tasty. This is a great lunch spot. You line up and choose your tortilla and meat. Then you move down the line and let them fill it up with as many veggies as you may like. I always seem to end up with a huge burrito that I have to eat with a fork.

To me, though, the standout are the fish tacos. They are so delicious that I have a hard time wanting to try anything else. I remember going to San Diego for the first time and wondering what the heck a fish taco was. Now if I see them on the menu anywhere, I want to try them. I've had some odd fish tacos in Nashville (including some with grilled fish. Awful.), and Baja's are the best I've had. The fish is nicely fried, not dripping with oil.

There's a great salsa bar with several different kinds to choose from -- the pineapple salsa is good, as is the tomatillo. You can get your tacos or burrito with chips and a drink to make a cheap combo. The place definitely gets crowded during lunch, but the line does move pretty quickly. Parking is definitely tricky -- it can be a headache just getting in the parking lot, let alone finding a finding a spot. The trick is there's a gravel lot behind Baja and Sam and Zoe's and walk to the place.

I know, I know.  It certainly isn't as if Baja Burrito needs another sparkling review.  But I don't care; the place is fantastic and I feel like sharing.  While there is a bit of a line nearly every time I duck into Baja Burrito, it's always worth the wait.

The staff of B.B. makes your burrito/fish taco/what have you as you move down the line in a deli-style fashion.  This way you get to keep an eye on your meal and eyeball the toppings before they go on.  Everything at Baja is very clean and organized, and they make your food about as quickly as can be expected.

One of my favorite of Baja Burrito's features is its salsa bar.  They offer a pretty decent variety of spicy, mild and in-between salsas, and the absolute king is the pineapple.  I never had any idea pineapple could make such a deliciously tropical salsa.  There is also a patio out front that makes for a lovely afternoon dining spot.  One of my favorites, in fact.  Nashville certainly can't boast too many West Coast style burrito joints, but this one makes up for the dozens of greasy joints all over the city.

I'm generally a long-winded review writer, but not this time.

Burritos=delicious.  Lots of fresh toppings to choose from.
Fish tacos=possibly the best in town
Salsa=ultra fresh, the pineapple is my absolute favorite
Fruit tea=divine

Always a crowd, but the line moves fast.  Patio seating is fantastic if the weather is right.

Go once and you will never eat another restaurant's burrito again.

If you like American influenced Mexican food in the form of delicious and massive burritos then this is the place for you.  Baja Burrito's popularity is evident not only by word of mouth (in case you live in a burrito rumor void and are unfamiliar, everybody talks about this damn place) but by its continuous and lengthy lines of patrons waiting to spend their money here.

The coolest thing about this place is that because it's a lunch counter kind of joint you get to watch your food made right in front of you.  While waiting in line you study the board listing your options and when it's your turn you have total control over what comprises your burrito, even down to the type of tortilla it is wrapped in.  There are plenty of ingredients to choose from, all of superior quality, and its pretty fun watching your meal take shape in the hands of Baja's crack burrito makers.  They're made expertly, your ingredients are balanced just right, harmonious in flavor as well as temperature.  Since you get to essentially design your own food, it is hard to not like the results.  If you're not a burrito lover, or just feel like switching things up, they also offer other ameicanized mexican fare like taco salads.  Their salsa bar (SALSA BAR!) alone is exciting, who doesn't love multiple delicious salsa options?

Baja Burrito can get extremely busy and can be less than ideal if you're looking for a quick meal, but if you've got a bit of extra time the food is worth the wait.  It's an extremely casual place, you order your food at the counter and fend for yourself for seating, so don't expect to be waited on table side.  Also tables can be a hot commodity when they're busy and because of this, often you have to clean them yourself which can be annoying.

They're located a bit outside of town in the Berry Hill community near 100 Oaks Mall, so if you're traveling from a more central Nashville location it can be a bit of a drive.  Also parking can be head ache inducing as options are extremely limited so I suggest carpooling if you're going with a group.  They also have an outdoor patio which is nice on warmer days, but since they're located next to a heavily trafficked area it can be loud.

Although I was holding my nephew and didn't actually order food for myself,  the place was bustling on a Saturday after lunch rush.  I had the veggie taco salad, and apparently, you get to choose what you want on it.  My taco salad was huge and delicious and the dressings were awesome.  The rice was delish.  The burritos I saw were huge, and the free flowing line and seats (I had strangers at my elbow) was a, one might say for the south, "cultural" experience.  The world's cutest and best nephew was sooo well behaved, and enjoyed some chicken, rice, and black beans, and we're not sure whether the green pepper was swallowed or not.  My dad says that a black bean stayed on my nephew's tongue for a while each time he opened his mouth, but I think that can be attributed to his eating skills (at 9 months old) rather than the consistency of the bean.

Baja Burrito is wonderful. Period. Also, to the guy complaining about the torillas, well, it seems to work for most people, and also the thing about the meat isn't entirely accurate... I mean, you also get a generous portion of rice and beans along with a reasonable serving of meat.

So delicious and fresh, every burrito just has such an... awesome taste. You'll have to experience it to know what I mean. Then, if you're anything like my hoards of friends who worship this place, you'll understand.

The salsas are incredible and fresh (tomatillo all the way), and the fruit tea is, as previously stated, the way to go. The fish tacos, while I always stick to my beans and rice or chicken burrito, are awesome when I've tasted part of a friend's.

Also, I know many who adore the optional (but cost more) peppers and mushrooms offered as nice, vegetarian fillers or additions to a burrito. Also, the pico is delicious, never leave out cilantro, and their guac is consistently good.

Also, they have Las Paletas, and don't forget to pick up "Just One Please!" pack of chiclets on your way out the door!

No, it's not "real" Mexican food, but I love it anyway.  This is one of the best burrito places in town.  Fast, fresh and cheap, the way this type of food is supposed to be. What I like about the food here is that the cold ingredients are not ice cold, so as to upset the warm ingredients.  I hate to take a bit into a great big chicken burrito, and have the chicken be cold because it was sitting next to the cold salsa.  Just a pet peeve. There are more where that came from.

wonderul fresh ingredients (skip Baja Fresh and go here instead).  make your own tacos on flour, spinach or chipotle tortillas, choose a meat (chicken, beef, or spicy chicken) and add a vast selection of ingredients.

beware: the regular size tacos are monsterous!

also note that fish tacos are FRIED not grilled.

enjoy the outside patio.

This is my favorite spot in Nashville. Absolutely. Now that I live in Los Angeles I have my choice of a plethora of Mexican eateries and taco trucks, but nothing in my heart has championed Baja Burrito just yet. My friend Alex and I have been such frequent regulars for so many years, that staff pretty much knows what to make and treats us like family. There was a point where I went 3 to 4 times a week! that's pretty dangerous, considering even the small burrito is huge, and the salsa bar so delicious you know chips are going to have to accompany the meal. The patio is amazing, the line is always worth it, and the burrito is so fresh and delicious you may find yourself sitting at a table for a few hours, just long enough to begin digesting and make room for more Baja Burrito. Oh, how I miss thee.

Something I've learned over the past few years is that the fresher the ingredients are, the better the burrito.  That seems simple enough, but very few places live up to it.  Well I'm hear to tell you that Baja Burrito is the freshest and most delicious burrito in town.

The first thing you'll see when you walk in is more than likely a zig-zaging line of people waiting to place their orders.  But because of their assembly line approach, it doesn't take long to pick out your meal and be ready to chow down.  One of the nice things about Baja Burrito, is there are size options when it comes to the tortilla.  The 10-inch wrap is plenty for me, on most occasions, but it's good to have the option of 12-inch if you're hungrier.  The 12-inch tortillas also have the choice of Chipotle, Flour, or Spinach, to mix it up a bit.  I'm pretty partial to the marinated chicken burrito, but the steak and shredded chicken are great as well.  You can upgrade to chips and a drink for a few dollars more, and make sure you load up on salsas from their salsa bar.  Seating tends to be a bit crowded on the inside, but there's a patio outside with a little more elbow room.  Parking is somewhat limited as well, especially during a busy lunch rush.  But you really can't beat these burritos.

I'll keep this short and simple.

Go.

Eat.

Love.

Return.

Best burritos you'll ever have.  Freshest ingredients in town.  I'm a burrito lover, and I can say with all honesty this one of, if not the best burrito places in America.

It's okay, but way too expensive for what you get. Also, the tortillas are slimey (steamed instead of grilled). Just go a little farther down to Nolensville Rd and pick any place there. I recommend Las Americas. For burritos, try Chile Burrito in Brentwood.

Plain and simple: if you're in Nashville and you want a burrito this is where you go! Located in the quaint Berry Hill area, Baja Burrito is a student or young professional's dream: huge portions, spectacular food, and ridiculously cheap! For five bucks you can get a burito, made how you want, that is enough to be a solid dinner by itself, and that's not to speak of the chips and salsa bar!

Fresh cilantro, free-range chicken, mexican rice, black beans, fresh organic chese, diced tomatoes, and much more to chose from. Freshly steamed tortillas while you wait in white, wheat and 10'' or 12'' sizes. Enjoy it on the patio, which is my favorite in town, then go to Sam and Zoe's in the back parking lot for a coffee and desert!

I do not come to Baja Burrito as a Mexican-food snob, but as a burrito-loving American who digs the Cali-Mex concept.  Everyone seems to love their fish tacos, which is great, I agree.  If you've ever been to Mamacita's in Asheville, NC, you'll find striking similarities.  Only at Mamacita's, the menu is ever-changing and the ingredients are a bit more fresh and exciting.  At Baja, the decor is fun, they have a large selection of hot sauces, and a good selection of beer.  The layout can get pretty annoying when it's busy, but all in all, Baja Burrito is a good place to go for a good burrito.

if you have a burrito/taco craving, look no further. this is it, your one stop to alleviate your craving. the set up is similar to that of chipotle, queboda, chille burrito, etc, but i like it 1000000X10^1000000 bettter than those wannabe burrito places.

seriously though, their large burrito is HUGE. i mean it's good b/c it takes care of my voracious appetite. =] their pineapple salsa compliments their burrito very nicely. this is more of a baja california style burrito and not mexican.

this place is MUY BUENO!
