Its Sunday which means its brunch day in my world. I bugged some friends into meeting for brunch this Sunday morning and one suggested Baja Bistro. He had been there before and said they had good breakfast burritos. I love burritos. Sounds like a place I'd enjoy.

We get there and can't find a way to get in. The two doors I tried before were locked. We walked further down and found door number three open. We walk in to a child screaming about something or other. Aside from two kids and their parents the place was empty. Soon after the waitress appears and asks if we're here to dine in. I say yes and that we need a table for four. She points out a few four seat tables and tells us to take whichever we want.

We find a table and are handed menus and given water. They have all my favorites: chorizo, breakfast burritos, chilaquiles...the list goes on. I couldn't decide if I wanted the chorizo con heuvo, the breakfast burrito (I could get bacon with it!), or the chorizo tacos. The dude decided on the chilaquiles after I convinced him of their awesomeness. After much indecision I felt the chorizo tacos were calling me.

My friends arrived and ordered the chilaquiles and the chorizo con huevo.

The food came and everything looked delicious. I bit into my chorizo burritos eagerly and moaned in delight. So good. So tasty. So want it in my mouth again. The hot sauce that came with it was the perfect condiment. It looked and tasted homemade. My friend enjoyed her chorizo con huevo and the guys thought their chilaquiles were okay. I had a bite and found them to be a bit mushy and I couldn't taste the egg even though they were included apparently.

While we ate more people started to file in so we didn't see the waitress all that often but our glasses were refilled which was needed because my mouth was a little on fire.

I liked Baja Bistro. My friend and I declared we should come here every Sunday for brunch and try something new each time. If you are a fan of chorizo this is the place for you. If you don't even know what chorizo is, shame on you and get your not knowing ass to Baja Bistro and found out. The end.

I finally went to go try Baja Bistro's HH this past week and I sorely regret not having gone sooner!  I had heard good things about it but everytime I wanted mexican food I'd end up at Peso's or Barrio.

Now I know to walk within my neighborhood to get something so tasty!

We went on Thursday and sampled their flavored margarita and cerveza (std Corona w/lime although there is Negro Modelo reg & lite), poblana/onion cream dip, fried potatoe/cheese taco, steak  taco (for $2 each- a steal!), cheese enchilada, chips w/salsa, homemade guacamole and their chicken nachos.

Only complaint I have is that what I thought was sprinkled on red sauce on the nachos was red chile spiced white chicken meat, which was a small amount.  Plenty of refried beans/veggie/cheese, salsa, guac & crema but not enough chicken worthy of it being chicken nachos.  The chips themselves are house fried, so that helped a bit.  Total bill pre-tip?  Glorious $35!

We went again the next day and just had cocktails.  Same good n' happy consistency!

Tasty tiny breakfast spot. Space was limited for our party of 5, but huge cups of coffee (heart!), cheap options, and a bit of a fumblingly sweet server set this place as close to perfect. Everything was really tasty & fresh with good sized portions. A nice spot in Beacon Hill.

This is a cool little place I discovered while riding the Light Rail for the first time. It's only a few blocks from the Beacon Hill station.

When we walked in, it was pretty busy since it was opening weekend for LINK, but we got a seat pretty fast.

We started off with margaritas, me having the traditional and my gf having the pomegranate. They were both good and packed a punch.

For my entree, I had the huevos rancheros, which was excellent and reminded me of the food I always had in Albuquerque.

Now that LINK is open, i'll be re-checking this place out more!

Mexican B-fast until 3pm?  Sweet!  Right next to a good mechanic?  Super sweet!

They have a pretty good selection on the menu, I ordered a tortilla egg dish.  It was tasty but not much exciting about it.  I was expecting more egg I think.  I am no expert on Mex-breakfast though.

The table I was sitting at was a bit sticky, and there was an annoying buzz coming from the neon open sign.

I did enjoy it though and afterward I ordered a Chai... this thing was the hottest (as in temp) drink ever!  I'm surprised it didn't melt the lid!  It was tasty though.

Friendly staff, Friendly food!

Not sure what to make of the catfish tacos, but for the price, it's a good deal.

We went during a busy time, so food seem to take forever to come to us.

The beef tacos are definitely better than the other options.

The best thing about this restaurant is the fact that the food isn't your typical soggy, lard fried mess found at the gringo chains.

If you want something different more authentic, try this place out.

In search of a traditional, inexpensive and tasty Mexican breakfast? Look no further than Beacon Hill's Baja Bistro!

We had the Huevos Rancheros and the Chilaquiles, along with sides of potatoes, bacon and coffee for under $23 before tip. We had a heck of a time deciding on what to get here... The omelets and the breakfast burritos looked good, along with the tortas... they've got 3 to choose from.

The staff here is attentive and extremely nice and our food took no longer than 15 or 20 minutes to arrive. The Chilaquiles were delicious- I'd definitely order them again and the Huevos Rancheros were good too- the refried beans here are house made.

They're also open for happy hour (which looked great- AND CHEAP!) and dinner.

The interesting thing about this place is that it's a coffee shop AND a Mexican restaurant, so you can either get your espresso and a pastry to go, or you can stick around for a bite. Right now, they're offering a 'for here' special on their 'Rum & Egg Nog Latte.' I told the barista if they had the same drink to go, they'd be the most popular coffee shop in all of Seattle. She laughed and agreed with me.

Good food and great service for a good price. Yep, we'll be back for sure.

Great happy hour specials on apps and libations.
If the tamales are available, EAT THEM!!!
So tasty. . .

I like the cozy neighborhood feel.  I also like that it's two blocks from my apartment, and I can swagger home after that one last margarita. *^.~*

For those weeks you can't squeeze in lunch in Zihuatanejo, the Huevos Con Chorizo here will do just fine. The staff are my favorite people in Seatown.

The Amorcito Lounge next door has to be the best kept secret. But that won't last. This is going to blow up for sure.

Looking for a breakfast place that is somewhere between here and Costco, we found ourselves at the Baja Bistro this morning.  I'd read the almost unanimously favorable reviews on Yelp and was excited to check it out.  Mr H loves breakfast and loves Mexican food, so it was not too hard to sell to him on this place.

I was disappointed in the Chilaquiles.  I was expecting an egg dish with some tortilla strips mixed in, but, instead got just the opposite.  There was some egg in there, but I really had to hunt for it.  I guess this is traditional and something I just did not realize when I'd ordered.  It was tasty enough, but, with the addition of chorizo, which I'd opted for and which was just as sparse as the eggs, this cost over $9, which is a bit steep, IMO, for a dish that is 90% tortilla.

We each ordered orange juice.  We noticed one of the workers left the building and returned a couple of minutes later with two bottles of OJ that we're pretty certain he'd picked up at the convenience store door.  When I order a $3.50 glass of OJ, I don't necessarily expect it to fresh squeezed, but I do at least it expect to real juice and not some 'from concentrate' concoction that comes from the Shell mini mart.

The staff were friendly and attentive and did their best to accommodate Mr H's onion allergy (no easy task in a place where most dishes are topped with a sauce that includes onions).

Still, my quest for a breakfast spot in So Seattle that really jazzes me continues...

I think this might be my gay boyfriend #2 (GBF#2) and my 'spot' if you know what I mean. *wink wink* I've been here twice with him once for dinner and once for brunch.  And being a lover of Baja styled Mexican food I had high hopes for this place and guess what I'd say they were met.

For dinner I went simple like I learned to do long ago.  A dry bean and cheese (on the inside) burrito with sour cream.  I was informed the refried beans were vegan and I have to admit the thought of vegan beans scared me it really did but I went with it anyways.  Guess what?  Those were the bestest refried beans I've had in Seattle, and to think they were somewhat healthy for me.  Imagine that!  They used both Oaxaca and manchego cheese which reminded me of San Diego style food and put a smile on my face. I also ordered a side of guacamole for the chips which was fresh and tasty I was impressed.  Oh and I had a pomegranate margarita as well and I'm not a fan of margaritas but theirs was good didn't have that awful tequila taste even though it was made with tequila, go figure.

For brunch I went with the huevos rancheros.  They were good, eggs were cooked perfectly, the corn tortillas could have been fried just a little longer for my liking but they were fresh and appeared homemade and the beans they were just as delicious as the night I had them for dinner in my burrito with my GBF#2.

He doesn't know this yet but next time my GBF#2 and I go to our 'spot' we're going for happy hour because get this they have taco's (fish, steak and/or cheese and potato) for $1.50!  Yes $1.50 and it's not just Taco Tuesday its Taco Tuesday through Sunday from 3pm to 6pm!  Hello taco Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday here I come for you!

I miss Mexican food. I mean I REALLY miss Mexican food. This place was fantastic, service was friendly, the guacamole was real diced avocados with a hint of lime. I tried the Chilie Rellenos (a dangerous test in my opinion, I once got a canned anaheim filled with Velveeta) and they were AWESOME! Oh man! And even though it is not a classic mexican dessert, you must try the key lime cake. Sooooooo good.
Oh! And Pomegranite Margaritas!

Baja Bistro has a full liquor license.  If you live on Beacon Hill, take the time to read that again.  Yup.  You can get a margarita with tequila in Beacon.  Oh, yeah.

This is not Tex-Mex (check out La Cabana for that.)  This is a different region, with different flavors.  White goat cheese, used sparingly--not mounds of cheddar.  Gently refried beans.  Chilaquiles on the breakfast menu.  Awesome potato tacos.

The servers are warm, cute, and generous.  The art changes regularly.  This place is the opposite of pretentious--it's comfy and local and welcoming.

Been twice. Completely different experience each time.

First time: Happy hour. Great service. Amazing food. Good prices. (The $1.50 happy hour fish tacos were excellent.) 5 stars.

Second time: Lunch. Horrible, bitchy server. Burrito was way too hot to be served (burned my mouth on the refried beans), had far too much cheese, and was rather bland. 1 star.

The atmosphere is a little ho hum. I'd overlook that entirely if this place could always resemble my first experience.

This quaint little Mexican restaurant slash coffee house can be seen by anyone traveling through beacon hill on the 36, 32, or 60 (I think). And it appears as though it hasn't been there for long yet still fits nicely in it's neighborhood. My g/f and I went here spontaneously one Saturday morning around 10:30. We had no idea what a treat we were in for. Although I can't remember now what we had, we were both a bit hungover (she had the special and I had something off the brunch menu). Don't take my lack of memory wrong the food was good, and for the price (minimal) it was outstanding. We both had drips with our brunch which was exceptionally good, fantastic coffee here. The waitress was especially friendly and prompt, I gave her a 45% tip as she was that good.

Update: I went back here  in Feb. '08 and had them same waitress but her service was far worse than my previous visit. My drips were still awesome, but I had to refill my cup myself. She only got a 10% tip this time. One thing I learned from 6 years in the biz is that if you can't be consistent you will never build a solid regular customer base. Which can be crucial during the slow months.  minus one star

Coming from San Diego, CA, it's hard to find Mexican food comparable to food at home (Taco del mar/Taco time are not so good!) But Baja Bistro is a GREAT place.  The service is fantastic - the prices are great, and the food is terrific.  It's the definition of a perfect neighborhood spot, and I hope it doesn't ever get too busy!

Best things to order:
- POTATO TACOS!!  (tacos de papas)
- Enchilladas
- Appetizer with bell peppers in sauce - really good

A great place to go with your friends for a fantastic meal and more importantly, a very fun time.  Highly recommend hitting it up before a night out!

Cool art up on the walls, Sunday morning grooving music, and no meat in the refried beans. This place is small and quaint, uses fresh ingredients and doesn't drown your food in grease like some Mexican restaurants. Brunch was pretty cheap, fun, simple and a little spicy. We also ordered lattes with our Mexican food because it is connected to Java Love. Ha.. only in Seattle. I am from New Mexico and that would be basically unheard of. I was a little underwhelmed by my breakfast burrito because it had more potatoes than eggs and not much flavor but I got some sour cream and some pico and that livened it up. One downside is that they have no wifi- too bad I could see hanging out there for brunch surfing the web and stuffing my face with more lattes and burritos. "Bring more of everything waiter- I'm here for the long haul", I would say. But no- instead we just paid and left.

"The coffee is really good" was going to be my review but I am not one for brevity. Oh, sigh. I recently moved to the one place in this city that does not have a coffee shop on every corner. The nearest Starbucks is exactly 2.47 miles from my door. I was quite excited when I stumbled on Baja Bistro/Java Love. The people who work here are friendly and can make a proper latte. The music is always perfect and the walls adorned with interesting art from local artists. The breakfast menu is great; it includes machaca and eggs, chorizo tortas and chilaquiles. I have not seen a pork torta since I traded 360 days of sun in the South West for 360 days of, well... Unfortunately the food has about as much flavor as the paper on which the menus were printed. I am so bummed about the food but "the coffee is really good".

Not a whole lotta destinations up here in the 'hood - at least none I can convince my friends to come to my hood for. 'Cept this one for breakfast. Deelish breakfast choices, I don't think you can go wrong. Service may be harried sometimes, but always kind. What kind of service were you expecting in Baja anyway?

The atmosphere is friendly and cozy here.  There always seem to be regulars dropping in for coffee or takeout.  I love the cheese burrito and my husband loves the cheese torta.  Their burritos are huge and generally require a takeout box.  I don't mind this because I love taking home their unique spicy brown salsa and eating it with tortilla chips.

Nice little baja mexican bistro that is on Beacon Hill. They serve a fabulous brunch on the weekends and its worth checking out. The salsa is hot and spicy and the interior has a good neighborhood vibe. It is also combined with a coffee shop to make it a place to hang out for awhile. They are also open until 10pm and they have a full bar!

Grabbed a menu when walking by one day and was very excited to give it a try, but eneded up very disappoined.  The simple but interesting descriptions on the menu sound clean, crisp, and healthy but intriguing, but read them for what they are - lists of ingredients. Fish tacos with cabbage? Breaded fish in stale tacos with shredded cabbage. Completely bland, and served with totally blah re-fried beans and rice.  My wife's mole enchiladas were serviceable but completely forgettable. Skip it.
