$18.95 for bottomless champagne, mimosas, sangria, or a mix of the two! Oh, and as if that wasn't enough for $18.95, they also throw in limitless Mexican food!
I thought the buffet was decent. I'm biased because I've never been the type to crave Mexican food. They will fry you up a fresh egg scramble though, with your choice of fixin's. They have the semi-spicy carrots that I love. But for me, the appeal is, hands down, the all you can drink sangria. After spending $20 a pitcher at other locales, I know how great of a deal that really is! Plus, it's good sangria! Very fruity.
The gay server was a doll! He came to our table with a pitcher of mimosa and a pitcher of sangria and allowed us to make our own combination. He happily took a picture with us, and for us, yelling "say PENIS" - love him.
I don't give 5 stars out much anymore because I worry I'm being too nice. Especially when it's a place where I know I'll get pretty good food and okay service.
But when I have a surprisingly great experience like tonight (which is rare), there's not much else I can do but gush about the good stuff.
I took my friend out on her burfday. The plan was: we'd drown in tequila here and grab a bite elsewhere. The happy hour prices here are damn good for what you get. We didn't plan on eating here. However, the mouthwatering aroma of our neighboring table's fajitas made love to our faces and we drooled with temptation.
Our server, Todd, is hot and he knows how to treat a a queen and his gal-pal on a night out. He joked with us, flirted a little bit and romanced us into ordering some Jalapeño Popper Shrimp things (yum). He even surprised the birthday girl with a phallus-shaped apple crisp with two balls...uh...SCOOPS of ice cream. He said it was on him...unleashing my filthy imagination.
So after comping the suggestive dessert, he warmly thanked us and brought out the check. I was so temped to leave my number but I figured I'd try to retain SOME of the dignity I'd lost by stuffing my face full of free cock cake.
This is exactly the kind of service that keeps me as a customer. Now if you lose the hat and keep the desserts coming, I'll marry you.

I'd heard a lot of hype about Baja Betty's, so I was excited to try it out for the first time at a friend's birthday dinner.
I had the chicken poblano dish. The mole poblano sauce had me drooling all over the menu, but when I tasted it, I was little disappointed. It was a little spicy, not a lot of flavor, and that's pretty much it. $13 worth of meh. The fried ice cream saved the day - so sweet! So crunchy! So delicious!
I might go back to try the margaritas, but I'll save my money and eat elsewhere.
i just went back on saturday for the first time in a few months and I loved it. I feasted like a viking, had plenty of mimosas, and while in the mix somehow managed to make myself a belgian waffle with strawberry jelly, cinnamon, and syrup. MMMMMMMMMM!
Since I moved from North Park I haven't been coming here as often as I'd like to, but I'm gonna have to manage to get myself back for the brunch more often.
i stuck to the mimosas but two of my friends had the bloody bettys. I never tried them in the past, but they were insane! Your typical bloody mary is topped with green olives and celery. Their Bloody Betty was topped with celery, and instead of a few lonely olives on a toothpick, a piece of dry salami, a small whole pickle, some spicy potato chips, cheese, and i can't remember what else. I do remember them being the coolest bloody mary's that I've seen though!
Our waiter, Chris, was effin awesome. He came by at one point to refill our mimosas, so I picked mine up and sucked it down so that I'd have an empty cup to refill. He lauged and said, "I don't think you have to worry about us running out anytime soon." By the time we left we were all best friends. We walked out full, satisfied, and ready to start our Saturday!

Best brunch with attentive servers who back the noble plight of bottomless shame by way of copious Lord's Day drinking: Baja Betty's.
There is now a purpose to wake up before noon on a Sunday.

I don't usually name drop, but the waiter I had for brunch at Betty's this weekend made me feel like I had a new BFF so he deserves to be recognized. DORIAN YOU ROCKED MY WORLD!
Brunch was pretty legit, and with the attentive service this time (my bottomless mimosa may have had a bottom, but I never found it) I'm in love. It's also a darn good thing I didn't have to drive home.

As Vanessa delightfully pointed out, "All the waiters are SOOOOOOOO cute."
"Cute" was definitely the middle name of our server last night. RAWR. Can I haz phone number plz? Street parking was an excruciating 15 minutes for me, but once I sat down with that lovely blended house margarita in my hand the world seemed like such a better place. And there's nothing like a little eye-candy to help you drink better. And harder. And faster. And....
Yeah you get it.
*Note: The earlier you go, the better luck you have at parking. I arrived almost around 5:45pm and it was a cluster--and mind--fuck to try to find a decent spot. After several hair-raising near-accidents (TURN ON YOUR GODDAMN SIGNALS PEOPLE) I found a remote spot in 90% darkness, nearly 3.5 blocks away. Thank god for my crazy asian female driving skills.

Baja Betty's has definitely one of the better happy hours I've experienced so far in San Diego,… Read more »
This place is amazing and it's easily become one of my new favorite hangouts. The drinks are strong and the food always hits the spot. Yes it's not the most authentic, but who cares, you'll be drunk while eating it anyway. The bar is fun and lively too, however there's always some drunk straight girl screaming at the top of her lungs that it's her birthday (it's happened the last 3 times I've been there, no joke!).
With 1/2 off menu Mondays, $2 Tostada Tuesdays, and $3 margarita Thursdays, I'm becoming both a complete fat ass and raging alcoholic in record time.
Best Mexican Food mixed with drinks experience bar none. I know people come here for the happy hours. We come here for Jeff the bartender who's apparently gathered quite an entourage gay or straight. That dude is hilarious!!! I recommend bellying up to the bar and be entertained at the theatrics that come from every direction. Enough said.
Usually I do my 5 star disclaimer of don't ruin the vibe but I know there's enough homophobes that the vibe can't be ruined. err unless Jeff leaves.
My friends and I went on a Saturday night at 8pm and walking in was a really casual and fun environment. The restaurant was super packed so we had to wait about 15-20 minutes for our table. Our waiter was really friendly and brought our drinks quickly but we had to wait 1.5 hours for our entrees!!! TOO LONG!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes I understand that it's a Saturday night but still. The food was good- I had a burrito and that was tasty and the guac was great too. The margharitas were extremely strong! This restaurant was also very gay-friendly and we were sad because a lot of the guys were really hot- LOL!!!
Just like Mo's... Baja Betty's is a guaranteed good time. You never know what you're gonna get here... what may come of the night. I can't even begin to tell you about the shannanigans that go down at this place but I guarantee you'll have a great night out.
Why do girls love the gay bars?
1. drinks are damn strong
2. no affliction-wearing straight guy will bother you here
Papi hour is where its at. $3 drinks and apps till 6:00. This includes all apps except for seafood. Margaritas are good, sangrias are great... and by the third drink.. it won't really matter what drink you have.
Love this place almost as much as Mo's.
Happy Hour!
This time I tried the Ruby Rita which was recommended by our waiter. It is sweeter than your house lime margarita and also not on the HH menu. $8? Next time I'll just stick with the blended strawberry margarita. For $4, it was yummy and strong! Well drinks were also $3, so I ordered a vodka cranberry. I wasn't planning on having vodka.. but since someone else was ordering some.. I couldn't resist. It was more like a double since it came in a pint glass.
I ordered the 3 mini taco plate, all with Carne Asada. I wasn't aware of the fact that you could order 3 different meats, I'll have to try that next time. But for $3, it was a steal, and I was stuffed!
This place was packed, as could be expected on a Friday afternoon, but our server was very friendly and made sure we got our drink orders in before HH ended at 6pm. The atmosphere was loud, so our table had a hard time hearing each other at times, but it's okay. We always have a good time!

YOU HAD ME AT CARNITAS...
WOW! This place is so rad!! This was our last stop for the Taste N Tinis event and the best place! We got some delicious carnitas, (and yes I "PIGGED" it up and had both chicken and pork and had like 6!).
They also had some really good chips, (although I am not sure why they served pico de gallo versus salsa?)
Our waitress was AMAZING and hooked us up constantly with drinks! I LOVE Baja Betty's and THANK YOU for entertaining us with a Breathalyzer test machine! (I spent 5 bucks just letting my friend see if they were drunk! One of my friends blew a .27- DONT WORRY, I drove him home!)
Really feel bad for the owners of this place, it holds so much promise and on occasion delivers but the last three times have been sooo bad.
My date on this occasion was very cute so i expected the waiters to fawn over us, no such luck. Having to physically track our own waiter down to get drink refills, order food and finally collect the check was so annoying.
The basic attitude of the floor staff is generally in the neighborhood of,
" look I'm just here to play with my friends and recover from my own hangover, please stop ordering stuff."
I read the good reviews and get so jealous, maybe when entering a hillcrest eatery you just have to abandon all hope of decent service but it really is annoying.
Craving a Saturday brunch and what seemed to be slim pickings (no Bite,no Lei Lounge) we ended up at Baja Betty's. I was pretty skeptical about a mexican brunch and was worried there wouldn't be any breakfast type food. Man was I wrong!! Granted I was only really tempted to come in because they serve sangria and mimosa's!
The brunch layout included waffles with toppings, nacho bar, bacon, potato's, sausage, tamales, beans, rice...all that jazz. Not to mention fresh fruit and dessert. All for $19 a person, until 2 pm.
I was a little disappointed in the staff at first not coming to take a drink order or explain the game plan, but we figured it out. And once the waiter saw us he was on top it the rest of the time. All the staff was very friendly. I will def be back SOON!
I guess I'm biased because I am not a west coast native but Baja Betty's is where I first tried carne asada fries. EFFIN' AMAZING. Since then (August 2009) I've tried to recreate the taste - nothing ever compares.. but I'm trying!
Anyway, I also ordered a salad off of their lunch menu.. soo massive! I probably ate only 1/3 of it all. I don't really have anything bad to say. Even our waiter, Hershey, was awesome. He kept calling my boyfriend baby and massaging his shoulders. I didn't mind - he told me right off the bat he was going to pay more attention to him anyway. It was quite fun but I'm sad I didn't go during Happy Hour! Everyone seems to love it there! Oh well, next time!
SURE! I'LL HAVE ANOTHER!!
I think, by far, Baja Betty's has one of the most incredible tasting "Mex-Tex" food in San Diego. I had such a wonderful experience, I rate this as my numero uno.
Their pricing is fair and their quantities are abundant.
The atmosphere is fun and happy. Their whole staff makes you feel like you're at home and amongst friends.
Their daily drink specials and themes are hard to beat.
Weekend brunch is the best! For under $20 bucks, you can have bottomless mimosa's or sangria and all you can eat Mexican Food buffet. They even have token Mexicans cooking up the food (that was a joke). Custom omelets, to your liking, are made fresh and while you wait. This too is included in your fee.
Baja Betty's also offers free rides to and from their sister restaurant, Mo's Universe, located just a few blocks West.
Good times. Good times. Good times. Go with friends or by yourself. You're guaranteed a fun time!
DEFINITELY CHECK THIS ONE OUT!
iiiHola Papi!!! ayayayay ;D
Papi hour here is fantastico!
When trying to show my friend from LA a good time, Marisol C. recommended this place and even joined us for Papi Hour. Surprisingly, parking was not an issue. We walked in, got seated right away and before we knew it, the waiter was taking our order.
I looked around the place and noticed the interesting Mexican inspired décor with calavera paintings.
It seemed like a group of girls were celebrating a birthday. As a waiter brought out a balloon for the birthday girl, I thought, "Who wouldn't want a phallic balloon for their birthday???" You could hear the girls cheering on their friend and snapping pictures as she accepted the penis balloon. It even had faux pubic hair. lolz
I made a mental note to swing by here for my birthday.
This place is pretty cool! Papi hour prices are insane. It's $3 for their apps, quesadillas and margaritas. Sign me up, yo!
Just a warning though, their margaritas are super strong! After just one, I was good. You don't even taste it until....hello! you are drunk, my friend!
As always, when enjoying a cocktail, you want FOOD!
When it comes to food, this place delivers. The carne asada fries, chicken quesadilla and potato rolled tacos were all delish.
This place is definitely an awesome spot. So, who wants to do HH with me??? :D
Where else can you get your delicious waiter to make you a sperm shaped balloon and delicious margarita all while being surrounded by the Who's Who of SD's LGBTQ crowd????
iiiiiiAY PAPI!!!!!!!!!
I saw the great reviews from fellow Yelpers and knew I needed to check this place out!
When we walked in everyone seemed friendly we asked for a table for two but we were seated so far from where all the action was. There we were by ourselves in the corner. Everyone seemed to be having a great time but we couldn't even see what was going on.
Mondays are 1/2 priced off selected menu items. Their website says to come early since they fill up fast. It was far from filled! On the plus side our waiter was pretty friendly but not so attentive! We constantly had to look from him to bring us another beer or margarita.
The Drinks
I ordered a margarita on the rocks with salt on the rim. Our waiter asked twice Salt? Yes I replied twice! Margarita came...NO SALT!!! Ugh! I left it like that since we couldn't find him anyway. We also had a Negra Modelo bottled and a Bud Light also came in a bottle.
The food
We got the Cheese dip appetizer. Sorry forgot the name of it. It was think and a little spicy. I liked it. My friend didn't! We ordered a plate. Pick 2 for $6. We got the 3 taquitos and a soft chicken taco. The taquitos were just okay. They came topped w/ lettuce, guacamole, and sour cream. The chicken taco was seriously gross! I even tried to take two bites from it but couldn't! The meat was seasoned w/ some sort of spicy stuff that just didn't go! The meat was way too watery and it was just gross!
The Good
The margaritas are pretty powerful.
The Bad
Food lacks in taste. Its kinda hard to make mexican food taste bad but these guys achieved it!
The food was decent, the price is GREAT, and the drink is decent too... but it has very good ambiance, makes you feel like very at ease... The wait staff could be a bit slow in serving you, but they are friendly enough to make up for the sometimes slow service...
One of the best Happy Hours around! Three dollars for the best sangria around! You cannot beat it! 3 dollar appetizers, quesadillas, and drinks! The service is fast and happy (it is happy hour)! Brunch is great too. All you can drink, are you kidding me? Love it!
How the hell have I been passing up Baja Betty's for the millions of times i've whored myself around Hillcrest?
Monday through Friday 2PM - 6PM is $3 Happy Hour. that means $3 appetizers, $3 well drinks, $3 beers, $3 sangrias. That shit makes me happy.
The service is awesome. Definitely a place to go and eat if you wanna chit chat with friends or try out a new place. Had a enchilada and hard taco combo which was delish! The chips and salsa they serve you are awesome too. Lightly salted, and the salsa was great.
The people who work look like they totally enjoy being here. They were so nice! Sat down outside in the patio because we had a four legged friend accompany us for lunch (sorry for the barking guys! haha).
The hubs and I are new to SD and were out walking hillcrest when we stumbled upon Baja Bettys at happy hour. Really we just went in to find out what, exactly, a "Papi Hour" consists of. I can't even find the words to express how we feel about this place now! $1 fish tacos, $3 margaritas (that actually have a liquor in them!)!!!! The best money I've spent since I've been here. I felt so good about the experience...so cheap, so delicious...that I even took a pic of the receipt to add to my why-I-love-san-diego file! Being new to the west coast, this was actually my very first fish taco. I haven't had a comparable one since. This is also probably one of the last places on earth that is willing to give you FREE chips & salsa when they know upfront that you're not digging real deep into your pockets. I can't even find nuts at the bars nowadays!
...No pun intended :)
A bit crowded but a fun place. Nuff said.
So after the horrible experience at Bite, my friends and I walked right next door to Baja Betty's. We had missed happy hour so we decided to have dinner instead.
I seriously debated about getting the Me So Horni Margaritas just for the cute rubber duckie mascot but 32oz of alcohol will probably kill me or get me so trashed I don't remember anything. Hmm - maybe it would have been worth the risks. Instead, I had the passion fruit margarita and it was good. I also tried my friend's Rebecca and that was good too.
My friend and I had the 2 person taco platter and there was soooooooooooooo much food. Our waiter, Mike, had to bring us a chair to place all the extra food and drinks we had just so we could have room on the table.
I liked the pork the best, then beef, but didn't care too much for the chicken. The tortilla was a little doughy which I like. But we asked for a mix of corn and flour and got more flour than corn tortilla. The food was good.
My friend and I paid $25 each for our drinks, food, tax, and tip.
We love Mike, who is a super hot, friendly, great, guy!
If I could give it 4.7, I would. This place has great food, a fun (if loud) atmosphere, an awesome happy hour, and Mondays they have a half price menu you can't beat! For super-special occasions, we have received rounds of shots for the group and questionably phalic "tequila worm" balloons - fun, fun!
The Sunday brunch is amazing. If you're the type who can eat endlessly, THIS Sunday brunch is for you!
Regular bfast foods like sausage, bacon, eggs, and omelettes, and then you have delicious mexican spin with machaca, flautas, and tastes of several Betty's signature dishes, then along another table, you're graced with beautiful fruit and other desserts. Brunch is on the pricey side, about $20 with tip, so if you're a light or picky eater on a budget, it's probably not for you.
My only complaint overall- one waitress who's been working there as long as I can remember - she is almost always grumpy, short with us, and patronizing... I haven't ever bothered to get her name, but she should work at Dick's instead of Betty's. It would fit her much better.
This has got to be one of those places that gets good reviews because of the booze.
A bunch of us (14) came in last night after the run of our show closed. We were crammed around an oval table, probably meant for 8 people. The water was warm- no ice.
I split the app. platter with someone. The queso dip was like the velveta and jarred salsa that my mom made when we were kids- but it was cold. The rolled tacos had what I believe was supposed to be the white farmers cheese on them, but instead was gummy and smelled like old feet. The carnitas taco was dry and greasy.
It was not busy at all, and yet.. the service, not so much.
For $13.75, not a good value.
The food left me with an upset stomach, the noise left me with a head ache (the music was so loud and for no reason, there was no one there).
So, save your pennies and go to a 'Bertos, or cruise to Normal Heights and go to Casa Adams instead.
Baja Bettys Rocks! The staff is friendly, the drinks are strong and their queso dip is to die for. If you're ever in the mood to just kick back, listen to some good music and have a good time this is the place to go. Their weekend brunch can't be beat. It's cheap and you get bottomless mimosas.
Love it!
I will keep it short and simple $4 Margaritas during Happy Hour well Papi Hour as Baja Bettys call it. Papi Hour is Monday-Friday from 2-6.
The groovy inspiration for my Baja Betty's review comes from the Frat scene in my ALL TIME favorite movie...."Animal House"!!!!

Good Boy.
Reasonable priced, good drinks with a great happy hour. This place personifies most of the things that are good about San Diego. Great location in the heart of Hilcrest. The fish tacos are awesome and it is a good portion like all the food there is. It has a great vibe and the servers and bartenders are friendly and have great personality. I highly recommend this place as I ended up going there at least once a week during the time I was in San Diego.
Here is the 5 star proposal that is Baja Betty's scrumptious buffet brunch:
ALL YOU CAN EAT, DELICIOUS MEXICAN FOOD (and from what I can tell, PREPARED BY ACTUAL MEXICANS) PLUS YOUR CHOICE OF UNLIMITED WHITE SANGRIA, MIMOSAS, OR BLOODY MARYS.
Though adding the cute and friendly waitstaff could not negate the reason behind loosing a star: a hair found in my green enchiladas.
YIKES!
But didn't keep me from going back up for more! The problem with being a tourist in a non-public transport town like SD is that you can't just get wasted at brunch because you have to FUCKING DRIVE to the next thing. DAMN YOU, SAN DIEGO!
I have been going here since it opened and I am never disappointed. If you are looking for the best margarita and service in town then this is the place. I usually have the same server every time and he is wonderful. For a bar the food is surprisingly good. The carnitas are one of my favorites.
This is the first gay bar I've ever been to. It's really more of a Restaurant with a substantial gay clientele than a gay bar. My girlfriend and I had the burrito for two and it was really more like a burrito for three. Freaking HUGE. The burrito is custom made to your likings (such as, you can choose onion or no onion.) They also had $1 mini-Coronas and $2 tequila shots (poured into a weird double-cup bulb with a chaser on the bottom, i.e. you have to see it to believe it or understand this parenthetical.) Overall, I would go back for food and drinks only.
I went to this place on a sunday at like 9pm.. I wanted a strong margarita that wasn't gonna cost me an arm and a leg....Baja Betty's is that place. I got a Cadillac Margarita for like 7 bucks and it did the trick. The service was awesom and I can't complain. I'll go on record as saying the waiter I got (Hershey was his name) is the shit!!!
Good food, good drinks and a gay waiter...that dances to Miley Cyrus and gives me a free shot...Ok with me and I still have all my limbs!
bottomless mimosa's for weekend brunch, taco tuesdays pshh No Gracies its tostada tuesdays @ this joint. $2 bucks a pop..they are good & bigger than expected. OK the real reason I go here is the massive salads. U MUST TRY THE VEGGIE ONE!!! idk if id even call it a salad? iv still yet to finish it. oh & u can get a real caesar salad w/anchovies if u want them
I like coming here, especially after work during the weekdays. its like where the entire crew from work come for a mini pow-wow and talk about the day. then have a few shots, a few beers, and a few glasses of wine.
The service is great. Its like an industry family. i try to come here on off nights. but i normally stick to the ruby room instead! i still love it here and will keep coming back!
woot woot!
I went here for the first time last night with some friends for dinner and drinks. My buddy and his girl met Jeff the bartender a week ago, and were so content, they went back when he was working and dragged me along for the ride.
Jeff (hope I spelled it right) has a heavy hand, and may have been the reason I can't judge the food all too well, cause after a couple margaritas and shots, I just soaked everything in hot sauce.
The venue is very relaxing, and I dig the haunted-house-style chandelier lights and tiki/cabana bar... somehow they just fit... or I just don't care...
I was shocked to see the bill. Usually when I walk out of a place drunk and digesting, it means I spent over a c-note, cause I have a bit of a high tolerance. Not this time, so kudos to Baja Betty's!
This wasn't the 1st time we received horrible service at this place but this was the worst.
OK so this Saturday a group of us went to go eat here. We wait for about 1hr only to later find out they had forgotten about us. I asked to talk to the manager. Well, the manager is taking shots with another waiter across the room! I couldn't believe that. So finally the manager who was a short tattooed girl comes up and I tell her whats going on. On top of this, one of the hostess was also taking shots because I could smell it in her breath.
So finally, after an hour and 30 mins, we get our table. It took another hour to get our food and this was after two tables, which were sat down after us, had already gotten their food and were paying. I approached two waiters, who just got done taking shots AGAIN! (no joke!) to immediately get the us the manager again. The manager this time is obvious a bit drunker and tries to apologize and almost cries so I was nice to her, but then a tall dude named "paco" comes up acts like he is cleaning the table, tosses our drinks, uses the F word and tell us to just F-ing wait. I demanded for him to apologize for using the F word in front of our friends and to send us new drinks! The manager tells him to go away and get us new drinks so he does.
After waiting for 20 more minutes this waiter brings us our new drinks but, still, using attitude. So, once again, I speak up. He gets security to kick all of us out but then the manager tells her own security that we didn't do anything wrong. But we still got up and left at that point. This has got to be the worst place for service in San Diego! and all because they were drinking while working.
It sucks that Bettys is affiliated with Urban Mos because we all love Urban Mos and everyone that works there is very nice. But for Mexican food just go to Fiesta Cantina or Ortegas.
