I had an opportunity to visit this bakery before I had to jump back on the ferry.  It is relatively large but warm and cozy in the kind of way you want a bakery to be. It has a very vibrant energy, and while a lot of poeple are working to make your visit a good one,  don't expect things to move particularly quickly.

That said, the bakery produces a huge array of tasty treats that I will have to go back many times to sample.  I chose a buttermilk biscuit the size of a large softball and a delicious beef and cheddar sandwich.  This along with a nicely prepped grande latte and I was more than happy to have stopped in.

I can't see anyone being dissappointed with the food or baked goods.  I don't think pastry really should be rushed anyway,  so if the wait is a little long...it seems to fit the venue.

    Definitely check it out.

Really came in for the name.  A simple bakery hidden in a strip mall at the end of the Winslow district.

Order "split bread", lemon bar, a scone, and a ginger snap cookie.  They are all very reasonable.  The lemon bar's crust was soggy  Split bread is an odd shaped muffin but with its head exploded.  It was multi-grained.  Scone is the best among them.

It is hard for me to rate any bakery more the 3 stars since it is really hard for a bad bakery to even survive.  I cannot this one is uniquely better, but I will not hesitate to walk in again.  Clearly, many local agreed with me.

Delightful place for coffee and light breakfast. Whether sitting inside or on the outdoor patio, I always enjoy reading or working via the free wi-fi. Just another reason that Bainbridge Island is a great ace to live or visit.

The warmed up ham and cheese croissant was the best I've ever had! We stopped in for a snack to hold us over until dinner and the croissant was the perfect choice. The other pastry items looked heavenly too! Thumbprint scones, cupcakes, muffins, cinnamon rolls, breads, etc.

The cafe is spacious and has portraits on the walls. In a strip-mall (as strip-mall as you can get on an island) with outside seating and plenty of parking.

I can't fathom why this place only has a net rating of two and a half stars! I stopped by BB this winter when I was visiting Seattle, and I was very impressed with the quality and variety of the baked goods. I liked it so much I stopped by again the next day and stocked up on more goodies.

The bakery produces all kinds of breads, muffins, scones, cookies, dog biscuits, cinnamon rolls, and other eye-catching treats. I had an orange cinnamon roll and a cranberry muffin the first day, and a pull-apart (a buttery, raisin-filled muffin-type confection that you pull apart to eat, the bakery's specialty) and some cookies the next. I had coffee both times as well.

The baked goods were all extremely fresh, made the same day, and mouth-wateringly addictive. I frequent a lot of bakeries and coffee shops in Chicago, where I live, and I was both impressed and depressed by the caliber of the fare here. Impressed because the cinnamon roll was warm ,gooey  and sweet without being cloying, and the muffins, cookies and pull-apart were sweet and satisfying with complex flavor profiles. Depressed because I haven't found any place as good as this in Chicago in the two years I've lived there.

The coffee was strong but not bitter and packed a wallop, caffineation-wise. I got a medium both days but a small would have sufficed. It's great coffee for taking the edge off a sweet snack, and would probably be great work fuel as well.

The environment was pleasant, clean, and amiable. It seems like there are regulars who come in every day; in general there was a warm, neighboordly atmosphere to the place. There were folks working on laptops, as well as small groups quietly chatting. The noise level was low; I imagine it would be a great place to do some work and grab a snack.

The prices as I recall were reasonable, and the store had plenty of day-old wrapped up for sale for the especially budget-conscious. I believe the pull-apart I tried was day-old, but I honestly can't remember because everything tasted fresh. If I'm ever in town again, I'm definitely going to stop by.

Popped in as we were walking around area for something sweet after lunch.

Staff greeted us as we were looking at selection & were happy for us to take some more time too. We ended up choosing the Lemon square bars. Well, we have eating at many bakeries before but we both agreed that without fail this was the best we had ever tasted.

This place is promising, and yet just doesn't deliver the goods. I've never had a good latte, Americano or other coffee drink here ever. In fact I'm not sure the barista really knows what they are doing half the time. Maybe it's the beans? I don't know.

The biscuits and the berry Kuchen are my favorite, however because of the lackluster coffee the baked good assortment isn't enough to bring me in here anymore. I've drifted off to Blackbird Bakery and Rolling Bay instead for my morning Jo and pastry instead.

Ha ha, Also as a side note I think it is totally obnoxious that they have a punch card that has 20 punch holes in it!! It looks like 40. I mean 10 punches on a card is a pretty achievable goal, but 20? Who is going to keep track of that punch card for that long? Are they afraid of giving out too many free cups of coffee or something? It cracks me up everytime.

While taking the dog for a walk around Winslow, we stumbled across a coffee/shop bakery with outdoor seating.  The bench outside with table/chairs looked comfy.  I went inside and saw a breakfast menu and soup menu listed. I couldn't find the drink menu. So I ask, where is your drink menu.  She pointed to a cooler/fridge filled with bottled beverages and I ask "what about the coffee menu".  She replied "we serve everything but frapaccinos".  Mmmmkay...no menu, no pricelist..they serve EVERYTHING.....yeah sure. So I ask again for a list.  She gives me her register ring up list and I chose a capuccino (thinking I better play it safe and get a common drink).  It was par.  That's all.  The chai was tasty.  We also ordered a half chocolate dipped peanut butter cookie- delicious.

So why the one star?  Because of the snooty customer service, lack of menus, and limited selection.

    Free wifi is a plus.

Would I come back here.....if I was bored then perhaps.

    No bathrooms inside.

I want to like this place- I really do.  Service is a bit rough but the pastries and cookies look very good.  I went this morning for a lil work meeting and I got the drip coffee and a peanut butter cookie- pretty safe choices for guaranteed "good stuff".  The coffee smell "burned" and it tasted worse- even after I put cream and sugar in- more then usual- I like coffee but don't know alot about coffee- I just know that I didn't like their drip coffee.  The cookie was crumbly but ok.

My friend had an iced drink that took a while to make and didn't look "quite right"- she also had a crumbly cookie.

The decor is nice but the tables are small and very crowded- the noise level was unbelieveably high- I couldn't hear the person next to me and this is at 10 am on a thursady morning.  The locals love this place, but maybe it's just becuase they don't have starbucks or tully's around (crazy bainbridge).

I will likely be back- good location and everything else was "ok"...

Starbucks is a racket but at least it's consistent and good...

well.... it's okay for getting a coffee and sitting outside in one of their sunny tables. But the food... well  the breakfast sandwich is microwaved i  believe.  I can't account for the 'bounciness' of the biscuit any other way. Has no one ever mentioned that bread of any form isn't good for the microwave? Very very disappointing! to be fair, oatmeal is okay.
I'd give it a miss, unless it's coffee you are after.

Maybe not GREAT!  but really quite good. Some baked goods excellent. Service a bit spotty, but WOW! aren't some of you being a bit too demanding? I'd hate to be on the receiving end of some of the critics. Anyway, imperfect though it is, I like it pretty well and often go there when on Bainbridge.

I don't know why they are still in business......it's probably only due to the great location.  The service seems to get worse every year.  On my last visit I ordered an iced tea (mainly because their coffee sucks) and the teenager behind the counter put a tea bag in a cup, filled it with cold water and ice....and slid it across the counter to me.  I kid you not!

They quit serving lunch.  What's going on with that?

Some of the baked goods are still excellent, but the selection isn't what it used to be.

I'm secretly hoping Bainbridge Bakers will go out of business.  I'd like to see Adante in that location (keep the old baker!) serving great coffee, baked goods and lunch!

I grew up on Bainbridge, and this is one of my favorite spots on the entire island.

To start, you cannot go wrong with any of the food here. It is all absolutely delicious!

As you look at the bakery case with their baked goods, know that you cannot go wrong. And to the right, there should be baskets of breads (amazing bread btw, you must check it out) and their signature creation: "Pull Aparts." These are like savory little raisin and nut muffin-rolls, and they go great with anything, especially a cup of coffee in the morning. If you get there early, try one of the savory rolls, or the ham and cheese croissant. Or go for the scones (amazing!) or the biscuits (also amazing - have them with jam!) or the cinnamon or cranberry orange rolls, or the cookies, or anything at all. (I advise that you request for the scones, croissants, bear claws, etc., to be warmed up). And be sure to check out the half-off day old items as you walk in (on your right at shoulder height). Everything the (all butter) bakery puts out is simply amazing. I still crave it now, and I haven't been there since December.

They also keep a fresh stock of lunch items in their deli case and made to order, so be sure to check those out.

Their coffee is supplied by Seattle's Cafe Vita, which is a high quality product. Some reviews mention that the coffee is unreliable, and this has been, at times, a problem for the cafe. Namely, some of the baristas were a little more skilled than others. But, I know that they are aware of this problem, and have taken steps to have their baristas well trained - by Cafe Vita no less.
For me, this only adds to the charm of the cafe. Why? Because the owner likes to hire local high school students, making the cafe one of the few local businesses to reliably employ youth from the island in high numbers.
As to the reviewers on here who have complained about the taste of the drip coffee, I can only say that you are simply delusional. Have you tried Starbucks? They may be reliable, but what good is that when they are reliably mediocre? The Cafe Vita beans used by this cafe should not disappoint.

I wanted to make a quick comment about some previous reviews that are mistaken:
@ hmmbrd H: Everything in that breakfast sandwich was made just for you, put together right there, and yes, warmed briefly in the microwave, just like any other cafe would. And no, the biscuits are not bouncy, they are straight from heaven.
@ Sara A: That's how you make lemonade. They squeeze it fresh in the morning, just like every other vendor would. Do you realize how inefficient it would be to squeeze lemonade on a case by case basis?

Overall, yes, this cafe had seen better times... until recently - but, it's coming back, and should once again be a great experience for all :)

I love this shop, the coffee is great, the employees are always nice, especially the owner, who, whenever he sees me there, or out in the hood always goes out of his way to say hello, and great food. This is one of my favorite places to hang out and relax on the island.

so..since I work next door I eat here pretty often!  There is definitly a great selection of yummy pastries and some good selctions for Breakfast and Lunch!  I don't like Quiche but they have the best Ham and Cheese Quiche there!  soo cheesy!!  And you better get their Orange Sanpellegrino's quick cuz they seem to disapear in the blink of an eye and for good reason too!!  I give it three stars mostly because it can get a lil pricey for something as simple as a salad and for some reason they seem to take forever in makeing your food! even a quiche takes 15 min when all they o is cut it and stick it in the microwave!  still, it's definitly a place worth visiting at least once!

We tried the iced tea, "fresh squeezed" lemonade, apple pie & brownie.
    Meh is right.
You almost can't ruin iced tea, so that was fine. The apple pie was unexceptional. The brownie was not terrible, but if your specialty is baking, I'd think you could make chocolaty goodness without too much effort (apparently not true). However, I have to take exception to their promotion of "fresh squeezed" lemonade. And for $3.50, no less! Fresh from a carton! Maybe they mean that it was squeezed fresh out of a lemon, into a vat, processed, stored in a carton, shipped to a store, sold to a retailer & then kept in their fridge 'til we unsuspecting souls came a long and didn't realize that if we wanted lemonade made the same day from a real lemon that we should be looking for signs reading "freshly squeezed" lemonade, rather than fresh squeezed lemonade.
    Won't make that mistake again.
oh yeah - service was friendly and prompt, they don't take AmEx.

This has a better variety than the other bakery downtown (Blackbird). The prices are reasonable, too.  I had their shortbread cookie. It was an ample portion and DELISH!  Actually, this place usually has ample portion sizes.

been here over 20 times since ive moved here, my coffee shop (they have vita) / bakery of choice on the island, local high school kids work here (instead of 20 something smug hipsters or rude middle aged women like the other coffee shops on the island) and service has always been friendly and efficient, great bakery items reasonably priced, plenty of seating, it must've switched owners since the other reviews on here because i love this place

I went to this place when i first moved to bainbridge island 11 years ago and it was great!! Excellant coffee and baked goods. Today, they just can't seem to get it right despite all the reasons to go there which include outside seating, a warm and inviting store, and free wi-fi. How can a bakery and coffee shop have such lousy coffee? You'd think that simple drip would be at the top of their list to get right and good, but it is terrible, usually burnt, and weak! I don't go there anymore with so many superior options just steps away.

Don't waste your money.  The food here is really sub-par.  Pastries are uber-dry and flavorless.  Coffee is bitter, but weak.  And to top it all off, the service and attitude is snippy and rude.  Spend your money elsewhere on quality product and service.
