Solid Thai Food Restaurant!

Ambiance: Place is small, but it's quaint.  Some Thai decor, but not overpowering.  Menu's look a little worse for wear, but they work.

Service:  Decent, no complaints.  They filled the water promptly, served food hot and served it to us.

Food: We got the Pad Thai with Prawns.  Seemed there was a lack of prawns, but it was good none the less.  I always base a good Thai restatuant on their Pad Thai, and this was very solidly prepared.  We also had a beef green curry.  This was good, but something seemed missing, can't really determine what though!  We also had coconut milk soup with chicken.  This was our appetizer and it was super yummy!  I always love this dish.

They had a respectable wine list to choose from.  No desert for us this trip.

My friend and I ate here about a week ago.  We ordered their fresh spring rolls, their Yellow Curry and one of their Eggplant dishes (both with chicken).  I must say that their brown rice is fantastic!  It's probably the best I've had at a Thai restaurant.  They give you the real organic stuff- none of that "Uncle Ben's" out of the box crud.

I gave them one extra star because their service is extra-attentive, and it's a small family-run restaurant.  They also have a decent wine selection.  And for Saratoga, their prices aren't bad at all.

Food was tasty but
portions small and prices were
relatively high.

My bf and I ordered the Spicy Lamb and Chicken Pad Thai.  The food tasted good and the service was prompt, but the portions were TINY.  Especially the spicy lamb--it came out on a teensy little sizzling plate about the size of the palm of my hand.  I would've given it a 3 1/2 stars rounded to 4, except the total came out to $30 for two very small entrees and no drinks.  We left hungry.  Boo.

Good place. Liked the Green Papaya Salad (tom yum). Basil Tofu was good, as was the eggplant Tofu. Went with all my cousins, and they finished the Drunken Noodles (pad kee mow) before I could even taste it! The Tom Kha soup was ok. Decent wine list (for a Thai place). I don't hang out in Saratoga much, but I would go again.

This place is good.  Came here this afternoon with a friend of mine on a recommendation from my boss.  I had a ground pork dish with haricot verts and my buddy had a shrimp pad thai.  I had never eaten at a Thai restaurant before and was somewhat skeptical on whether or not I would like it.  I did. It wasn't overly amazing, but it was a good lunch.  It was damn spicy though.  I might be a pale white guy but jeez my lips burned for at least twenty minutes after.  And that was on a "medium spicy" order.  Maybe that's my fault though because I assumed that medium spicy would mean that I would get to keep my taste buds.  Didn't really matter all too much because if you read any of my other reviews you would see that I kind of like the pain. Just kidding, but really!  Not sure I would come back because there are so many other places to eat.  But it was nice to try.

This place is great to eat at or take out.  The chicken pad thai is outstanding and so are the fried spring rolls.  Be careful when ordering how spicy you want the food -- I love very spicy food but even medium spicy is good and very spicy is just too much.

Believes in great service
All are extremely polite
It felt relaxing here

The pad thai was good
Ordered the combination appetizer ($14)
No more hunger
Going to YEE on a full tummy

I think this is the restaurant that Brandon A. and I ate at pre-YEE. I believe this is the only thai restaurant in Saratoga? I can't remember. haha I hope I'm writing for the correct restaurant. haha (Because I have written reviews for wrong places accidentally). If this is the place that I think it is... I couldn't believe how much attention they had given to their customers.

Most of the items on the food are around $10 ($17 being the most). So it's fairly reasonable for its location. The music playing in the background was quite soothing. I got the Combination Appetizer, which I thought was a lot of food. It was my entree, but I couldn't even finish it! I did burn the top of my mouth from eating the imperial rolls, but they were yummy!!

Food here would be like 3.5 stars, but service would be 10 stars!! I cannot emphasize enough on their service. They just really want to make sure you're very happy. The price for dinner is relatively inexpensive compared to the other restaurants on Big Basin (Plumed Horse, La Fondue, etc.)!

We ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice and Cashew Nut Chicken. Both of which were very bland in taste. We used yelp to try to find a good Thai Restaurant and this one was high on the list. I wanted to update the posting and let everyone know that, the service was prompt, atmosphere was okay but the food was very bland and the Thai Iced tea's were mediocre at best.

I've had many experiences with Thai restaurant in the US (my fav. being Thai Thai in Volcano Village, Hawaii), as well as Thailand itself. Take this as a fair warning from someone who appreciates good food, consider other places.

So good! I have been going here for years! The owners are very friendly. The service is always great.

The food is DELICIOUS. We always get pad thai, spring rolls, chicken skewers, basil chicken (or tofu), and any kind of curry. LOVE them all! This will always be my favorite thai food.

The owners recently made us a complementary dessert- two of their desserts: fried bananas and ice cream, and sticky rice and mango. It was surprisingly good! Maybe we will try it again next time, but the meal leaves you so full!

The Service here is impeccable, like at a $$$$ restaurant. The waiters are attentive, very formal and polite.
The food was pretty good too. We started off with the Tom Kha chicken soup which was mad tasty but the broth was too watery for me.
Next came the yellow curry with brown rice. The rice was fantastic and the curry was tasty too.
Highly recommend this place!

Saratoga is lucky that it's only Thai restaurant downtown is a good one!

EXCELLENT spring rolls.  It's easy to find "good" spring rolls...but hard to find great ones. Bai Tong's spring rolls are deliciously appetizing!

Excellent green curry!  The bamboo shoots in our curry were huge and flavorful...as were all of the other vegetables.  I've never seen green beans in green curry before but I sure wasn't complaining!  Delicious :)

Solid Pad Thai - nothing special, but pleasantly filling.

I also really enjoyed the service - prompt and kind!

Solid thai food.  Thai iced Tea was a little different than what I'm used to, but I did have two of them, so that must mean they're still good.

Very excellent service, too.  And they didn't seem to judge my ruffian-looking dining companion who showed up in a blue aerostich suit.

Ordered take-out, so I can't say much about the quality of service, but there didn't seem to be much seating. Average prices for good food. Pad see-ew and spicy chicken fried rice were very tasty.

Overall, Bai Tong is between Amarin Thai and Krung Thai, but its extremely close proximity will keep me coming back for more food.

We decided to take a break from the los gatos scene and head to saratoga for dinner.  The food was good - we had spring rolls, a curry, and a spicy noodle dish. The service was good.

This place needs a set of good christmas lights to get the fifth star. We'll go back - best thai place in the los-gatos/saratoga area.

So I woke up this morning thinking, "I want to eat thai food in downtown san jose at my favorite thai restaurant!" So I woke my sister up telling her LETS GO EAT THAI!!! Anyway,we came here for their lunch menu which is a great way to sample their foods and have a bit of variety. You can choose an item from two sections and soup or salad. The soup had fresh veggies with a slightly spicy and sour broth and the salad was ok; nothing special.

So we ordered....
BBQ Pork
Yellow curry medium spicy was packed with meat (chicken)
Brown Rice
Thai Tea
Pad Thai
Fish cake

Overall everything was good (although I have had better) and filling (we took half our food home).
Their service is just as good as their food... or maybe better.

I'll go back again if I am ever too lazy to drive to my favorite Thai place [Hanuman] since Bai Tong is walking distance from my house!

Our party of 4 tried to dine here this wkd, but the wait was 45 minutes. The place is very small, and they were crowded, but when we came in, they had 2 separate 2 seater tables they could have pulled together to seat us 4 if they really wanted to accommodate us. It would have been a little odd but doable. They had a table marked 'reserved' in the corner that would have seated 4, I can only assume it was for a reservation.

I mentioned that I tried to call several times to make a reservation about an hour ago but that their line was always busy and I tried for 10 minutes straight, and got some weird feedback from the guy we told this to. He kept shaking his head 'no no no' and saying they took many take out orders tonite. Wasn't sure if he was saying I didn't try to call or that they were just busy on the phone. Get a 2nd line maybe??? Then you wouldn't be having this discussion with me and I wouldn't be super irritated.

Ended up going literally two doors down to Bella Saratoga, getting seated immediately even though they were very crowded, and having a wonderful meal and experience.

Overall, the reviews for Bai Tong's food are obviously fabulous, but the jury's out on whether or not we'll be heading back...both my husband and I were not jazzed with how uninterested in our business this place seemed.

Another good thai restaurant in the south bay (would give this a 3.5). the place is very small, so I'd prefer krung thai or jasmine for a  bigger group. It's still nice and clean, with classic thai decor. I can't recall what I ordered, but it was all good. The brown rice was particularly well made here. friendly staff.

I hate when I go to a place for the first time and I'm so busy with the fun of being out with people that I forget about taking a couple pictures of the restaurant venue and food, just in case I decide to post them on Yelp. It's okay though, the occasion that day was much more important to my family and friends than anything else I can imagine.

Enough of my rambling on about how this review relates to my life. Let's get to the food. The Yellow Chicken Curry was good, but it was small. I think everything was pretty small, including the restaurant (the size of the place doesn't matter, it's the food that matters). The food is alright, nothing to remember really. The deep fried eggrolls were good, but that should be standard. My friend felt sick after dinner. She ate the Green Chicken Curry and said it was completely obvious as to what did it when she vomited it into the toilet later on that night. I know, gross. I'm sorry. No one else in our party got sick from the Green Curry and at least 3 others ate it. I didn't, I stick to Yellow, green can be dangerous for my sensitive stomach lining.

We had reservations with people who were regulars. If there is a crowd, there is no place to wait when it's 45 degrees outside, except outside. It was a Saturday night around 8:30pm and it wasn't crowded and didn't get packed at all. Keep in mind there are probably 10-15 small tables. Less if you have a bigger party. The place is small, cozy, but not good for small children because you're two feet away from the next table and one cry or scream from a kid, is not so easy to ignore or blend in with. At least it's not my kid. Heh heh.

I wouldn't go back intentionally because I wasn't impressed and I'm not big on the experience we had there. Maybe I'm just not the Downtown Saratoga type of lady.

It's not you, it me. It's not bad, it's okay. It's not that, it's just this.

Boy, am I out of it today or what?

I'm giving it a 2.9, but in my mind it's not enough for an actual three star rating.

One of the better Thai restaurants in the Southbay, IMO.   Yes it's small (hence it is called Bai Tong Thai *Bistro*) so yes it gets crowded but it's sweet and the attention to detail is there.   Fresh flowerbuds, linen napkins, a couple of tables outside for a nice day.

They'll make your dish spicy if you ask for it, flavors are clean and fresh and they offer brown and white rice.

Service has always been prompt and friendly.

It's all good, to me.

Visited Bai Tong based on the reviews here on Yelp. Location was easy to find, and on a weeknight (during winter at least) you can expect to have the place to yourself, as I did. The servers were quite friendly and took good care of me, their one and only in-house diner (they seem to do well on take-out).

I ordered #401, one of their Pad dishes. I cannot remember for the life of me the entire name. Ultra-delicious! Medium heat was just what I was hoping for, not so hot that I would cry, and not so mild that I was left wanting more. Also took recommendation to try a Thai beer, Chang, and it was surprisingly good.

So, I know I only had the one dish (plenty, and took leftovers), but I would return and try others if I get the opportunity. Try it out!

I went here for dinner on a hot day.  There was no wait to get a seat and service was prompt.

The food was very good, and when we asked for it to be very spicy, it was very spicy.  A lot of places are afraid to serve spicy food - these guys don't seem to be.  I really appreciate that.

If I lived nearby I would probably go here regularly.

Delicious Thai food oasis!

I loved my tofu basil.  It was perfectly hot and not in the most delicious way.  My lovely dining companions were making make-out noises over their beef salad and yellow coconut curry...not one grain of rice was left when they were done.  In short, we were all complete pigs, and quite shameless about it.

In addition, the service was awesome.  They were the nicest people, which always helps me digest food better.  They also offer jasmine AND brown rice, which is nice for the Saratogians, I think.  They sure do like the color "tan."

Having dinner at this place was like a sweet lil' bubble protecting us from the expensive $3,000,000,000.00 outfits in the whimsical-yet-upscale boutiques that surrounded us.

Let's discuss:  Fringe is ok in Dollywood.  Rivers of gold lame can be found in Graceland.  Torn Pocahontas denim skirts with the bedazzler trim accompanied by baby seal fur Ugg boots with pom-poms made from their soft lil' tails?  SARATOGA.

Ok, maybe not baby seal fur.  But some type of non-synthetic animal pelts for sure....animals who need fashion lessons from Elsa Klensch.

Whoda thunk in white-bread Saratoga (home of sparkly clean city trash cans every 60 ft. - LOVE that!) we'd find great Thai.

How could you not love a menu with enticements like "Evil Jungle Curry" and "Weeping Tiger"?! I ordered the latter and was rewarded with the most delicious meat/salad combo ever. The beef was ultra lean and tender with a 'glow' inducing heat tempered with garlic and citrus.

Made this big cat purr, fer shurr. Grrrrawrrr.

More hilarious plastic surgery in this restaurant. Life is different down here.

There are no stairs to get into this restaurant, which at this point, is the standard by which I judge everything.  The pad thai was really good (i know, boring, SORRY!), a bit overpriced at 9.00, but I suppose if you can afford to live in one of the many disgusting million dollar McMansions that are all over this town, then it doesn't really matter.

There is a wonderfully tacky gigantic gold mirror in the middle of this place that I really wanted to take home and put in my room. It'll go really well with all the posters I have up from Bop! magazine (totally serious, by the way. there are at least 5 people on my friends list who can vouch for this. don't let your friends decorate when you have a broken bone!).

This is a little restaurant with probably about 12 tables at most located in downtown Saratoga on Big Basin Way.

Went here for lunch and there were only one more person in the restaurant throughout the whole lunch time we stayed. (prob. about an hour or so).

Ambience: 4 stars
The restaurant is small but it's a pretty place.  There was a vase on each table with a tulip, table cloth and napkins(not paper cocktail napkins) made nice atmosphere.

Food:
Quality: The food was good but the portion was very small. It was about the same portion they serve for lunch at Thai Basil in Sunnyvale.  If you are a big eater, maybe you'd like to order a bowl of white rice in addition to the lunch combo but be aware that the rice will cost you $1.50 where most restaurants will only charge you a $1 if not free.

The waiter was very nice and he told me about his children and his wife. Very friendly nice person. (oh, his wife is the cook).

They didn't have the red curry with duck so I asked him if they could put duck in the red curry and they kindly did that for me. Medium spicy was about  as "spicy" at Thai Pepper Cuisine.

Sunday and Mondays are closed, lunch is till 3pm and I like that they have lunch till 3pm!

http://www.baitongthai...

Next time, I'll try the Green curry and hopefully Pad Thai : )

p.s. Small but I think you can use this plate for a date as it's kind of a cute place.

After seeing a 4-star rating on yelp, I thought this may be the best place to get Thai food in the south bay (or at least near Los Gatos).  This was not the case.

The cashew nut chicken dish I ordered was okay at best.  I also tried the pineapple fried rice and found it to be quite bland.  The shrimp (prawns) included in the dish were also lacking in flavor.

The service was pretty good though.  Our waiter was friendly.

uh, overrated? I went here for lunch once. I guess it's cheap for downtown Saratoga, but I've definitely had better Thai food for about the same price or cheaper. It's a completely forgettable place in my opinion, but I feel the need to review it and bring down it's ridiculously high 4.5 star rating.

Actually, I'll give it one more star because I left my scarf here and the owner came out and gave it to me, which was really nice of him. A little courtesy goes a long way :)

Since my time in Phuket, I've been hooked on Thai food. I'm always looking for that light, flavorful food that makes your mouth water and leaves you feeling great. I think we found just such a place tonight.

Bai Tong is a cozy little place (read 10 tables that are moved around depending on the size of the party). Service is prompt and friendly. They were quick to volunteer what each dish had to offer. We had four dishes and they were all tasty. We aren't big eaters so it was enough for our small group of three, but bigger eaters would probably want another.

We didn't try desert, but we were tempted by the thought of mango with sticky rice and the fried bananas with ice cream.  Maybe next time...

My only reservation was that most dishes were $1-3 more than Krung Thai...but since it was yummy I'll make the sacrifice.

---
sidenote - after writing this review a friend of ours said that Bai Tong has been hit or miss. She has yet to find the curry dish there. Even so, we're definitely going back in the near future.

Yummy food! I'd go back to Saratoga just for the chicken fried rice and the sweet & sour gravy!
We barged in at closing time on Saturday night (10ish), and they were nice enough to seat us (and not make us feel hurried). The place was almost empty, so we had great service, and the waiters were very attentive.
I wouldn't claim that everything was fabulous (the shrimp dish was average to me though my date loved it) but the fried rice and the sweet&sour were heaven.

Yes, it's been said many times by other reviewers, but really, who knew there was good Thai food along a street of antique shops & overpriced restaurants known as downtown Saratoga? (T_T)

Ordered Green Papaya Salad($8), Green Curry($8.50), and Pad See Ew($8.50), all very good. The only complaint is that the curry was a little too sweet for me, but not overwhelmingly so. Lunch specials also come with the daily soup (today was tom kha, which was good, too).

I was most impressed by the service (granted by the time we got in it was past 1 pm and the only table there on a weekday afternoon), but they continued to refill our tea, replace our utensils with clean ones between courses...when I took the turnip flower garnish off the plate b/c I wanted to take it home, on his own initiative our waiter even came out w/ a styrofoam container w/ water for me to put it in. (^_^)v Hooray!

Despite the glowing reviews from other Yelpers, Bai Tong was greatly disappointing for dinner this evening.  The pad thai was very sweet and not all that tasty, and the curries were only so-so.  The yellow curry was all right, but the mussamun curry was just mediocre.

I don't think I'll be returning to Bai Tong in the near future.  I'd rather go to Amarin Thai, even when they're having an off day.

I recently moved from Saratoga and the thing that I miss most (besides the view from my house) is Bai Tong. The owner and his wife (and his cousin, and his son, etc.) are great people - warm, open, and they love food.

I love their basil chicken best. But I really like to go and ask them to make something that they love. I've had mango with chilies and salt, and other dishes that I've not seen on other menues.

I'm told that the wine list is good, and they do rent out the space for special functions. I had my 50th birthday party there and it is a night I will always fondly remember.

These guys are not messing around: you ask for spicy, they'll give you spicy. I respect that. The food was good, and if we were in Saratoga often, I guarantee we'd be regulars. Unfortunately, I think this is the first time we've eaten in Saratoga in the almost four years we've lived in the South Bay. Sorry, Bai Tong. You rock and your chilies rock.

This is my favorite Thai restaurant in the Bay Area.  I love their chicken satay and yellow curry :-). For dessert the fried banana with ice cream is delicious.   And their service is wonderful!

Had dinner here once. Good Thai food. It was about a year ago so I can't remember what I ordered. I just remember leaving satisfied.

By far the best thai food I've had in south bay.  The staff is amazing, very friendly and attentive.  Good selection of vegetarian dishes, great appetizers, and good atmosphere.  The restaurant is quaint, well-decorated and there's never that much of a wait if any.

Wow, simply delicious!  This place is teeny tiny, so I would not recommend big groups.  BUT we managed to get a reservation for 8 on Saturday night and took up almost half the restaurant.  We had a feast!  Steamed dumplings, fried dumplings, yellow curry, green curry, pineapple fried rice, steamed rice, mee phad chow mein, pad se-ew noodles, pad kra pow prawns, pad kra pow talay seafood combo, eggplant, and green brown rice tea.  OMG.  Incredible!  The owners are a young couple--the wife cooks and the husband serves.  Ohh, I can't wait to go back!
