BB was a nice Caribbean-themed restaurant with a great seafood selection. I ordered the Seafood Paella, which was a great combination of chicken, fish, shrimp, sausage, mussels, and scallops over yellow rice. I would highly recommend this dish. My date ordered the NY Strip Steak, which was VERY good. We didn't have the same experience as Michael, mostly bc we didn't order anything to drink other than the sugar-cane sweetened lemonade (also good). Service was excellent, and we must've had at least half a dozen different people thank us on the way out the door. The staff WAS a bit eerie-happy and could've relaxed a bit, but I'd prefer crack-happy over lazy any night. Four *'s bc it was good, but for the price it didn't blow me out of the h20.
I would recommend an early dinner followed by a stroll along the lake. There are Xmas lights lining the lake, live music on set days, and there's even a stand selling cotton candy. We went early and left just as they were lighting up, but got a chance to feed the ducks and walk around as the sun set. It's a nice area for families, couples, or even single wanting to go for a nice walk or jog. It's also half a step away from BB and the mall. Just some food for thought...
Darden's at it again, this time with a calypso feel and enough fruity cocktails to make the ladies squeal. Located up in Altamonte, Bahama Breeze has a large outdoor deck with a fire pit, bland Bob Marley covers, and is just awkward enough to host a few drinks with co-workers or take a date you never want to see again.
The Hawaiian shirted staff are kinda miserable, so be prepared to exert some authority to get your order right.
Sounds cheesy and themed, which it is but the food and drinks made up for the rest. Fully recommend the seafood chowder! Ordered the daily special of Mahi with an almond crust - DELICIOUS! I have never had a crusted fish that was so tender where I could actually taste the crust. It had FULL slices of almonds and I could see the sugar crystals. YUM. Ordered the tropical coconut rice, which wasn't bad but I would have rather ordered the cinnamon mashed sweet potatoes served with baked and fried plantains. The non-alcoholic Lemon breeze drink was a bit too sweet but nothing an extra glass of water couldn't fix. Service was good - got everything right the first time. Prices were less than normal because of the lunch hour so I can see it getting kinda pricey...
I wanted to write about our time after reading that another yelper unfortunately received poor service because when we were guests at this mock Caribbean restaurant, we received excellent service from the not only our waiter, but the host, and the bartender. And being that it is a busy chain restaurant, I was very happy that we did since you're not always guaranteed that.
It started with a very chatty and helpful host who took our name and when it came to seat us, made conversation and joked with us--despite a super busy dining room. The bartender was quick to fill our order while we waited for our table and gave us exactly what we ordered--boat drinks with the right amount of alcohol.
Dinner wasn't magnificent per say, but it was tasty and filling and priced about right for what you are served. The Barbecue Chicken Flatbread appetizer was actually very good. And if you were in the mood to sip margaritas and snack on their patio, I would suggest this item. They describe it as, "crispy herb-cheese crust, red peppers, grilled red onions, applewood bacon, sweet and smokey guava barbecue sauce and mozzarella cheese." And that it was, with a kick of delicious. The Tilapia I ordered was a bit tasteless, but the smashed sweet potatoes made up for it. Dessert was worth the price and the full stomach that I encountered afterwards. Figuring bananas are generally an island favorite I went with the Bananas Supreme. It arrived and looked, smelled and was extremely scrumptious. Imagine a plate of sliced bananas on top of warm banana bread with vanilla ice cream, heaven sent whipped cream (I swear) and homemade butterscotch-brandy sauce. Very rich and filling but worth a couple bites and an extra walk around the block.
Caribbean influenced food is what I would call it. I'm not a huge fan of the cooked food. I usually get one of the salads which are very good. I am a huge fan of the place and go there often to sit outside and enjoy the patio. The outdoor dining is the best around. If you can manage to get a table outside do it. It's even somewhat climate controlled with misters and fans for cooling and even has some heat when needed. There is usually a good one man band for entertainment and makes for a relaxing good time experience to be shared with friends or a date.
Good food and great atmosphere , it almost feels like you are eating in a small island of the Caribbean.
Excellent food, cool atmosphere. I miss the Tandoori Chicken, but the Seared Ahi was perfect. I've enjoyed everything I've ever ordered here, from the salads to the Coconut Shrimp and even the Barbecue Ribs. The ambience here can be really cool and relaxing. They will usually have a Reggae cover artist singing Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff out on the beautiful patio.
Drinks aren't cheap here, but they are strong and there are many to choose from. All in all, one of my favorite spots for years for many reasons. They have some nice cigars here, try a Heaven Vanilla cigarillo.
