Aliso Viejo, CA
Our Sunday morning tradition: breakfast at Bagels & Brew and then a trip over to Trader Joe's for our weekly grocery shopping. Your best bet is to get there before 9:30 or 10:00 unless you want to wait in a line that's 10 people deep and stand around praying that a table opens up.
I usually get their Create Your Own Omelette option with egg whties, onions, green peppers and avocado. It comes with toast or bagel, but they also let you sub in a fruit cup (and don't charge you more for this). The orders are pretty complex (do you want a bagel, toasted or untoasted, what kind of cream cheese, no mushrooms, etc.) but they rarely get them wrong. The bagels, the few times I've had them, are pretty darn good, but then again, I don't know how you go wrong w/ a big bagel full of carb love.
The wait for your food can be pretty lengthy if you get there after it's busy, otherwise, it's not bad.
They also serve Kean coffee, which I love. And have free wifi. -

I'm sure there is a better general breakfast option in Aliso Viejo, but I am still looking for it. Bagels & Brew is basically like Corner Bakery, but with a less streamlined food ordering & delivery process.
I've only been here during the late mornings on random weekends, which I suppose is the worst time to be here. Nevertheless, their wide selection of sandwiches, bagels, and otherwise are what keep me coming back. Unfortunately I've never had a bagel here that I really liked. They never seem much better than the store-bought variety, and they are rarely toasted as well as they could be (or maybe that is a consequence of the long wait times for food that I've experienced?). Either way, I only come here when I'm meeting or taking someone to breakfast, and I usually leave with a new resolve to find a better breakfast spot.
Until that happens, I'll be back. -

I was surprised to see the ratings weren't higher for Bagels and Brew but then again I have only been here once and that was for lunch. I was meeting with a buddy who works right up the hill and swears by this place. I was game to try something different which is hard to find in South OC as everything tends to be chain oriented, even the sandwich and light casual spots.
Arriving near lunch time there was a very short wait and the food came out quickly with both of us getting our food in minutes. I thought the ingredients and the overall taste and quality of my sammie was top notch, the sweet potato fries were a nice option to have as a side( there are lighter choices, see below)
CHIPOTLE RANCH TURKEY CLUB-

I for one would definitely come back and give some of the other enticing looking items a try. -

It's located in the same plaza as the movie theater... ample parking and it has nice outdoor sitting area with heaters!!
I've been going to the Lake Forest location for the past year or so before I moved to SC. My favorite is the "Lake Forest" sandwich and I was excited when I saw it on the menu even though I was actually in Aliso Viejo... With that said, I couldn't help but had to order it!! Maybe I'm biased, but I'm pretty sure it's just not as good as LF. The bread was old and soggy, the ham was cold, the cheese was not melted and the juice of the ungrilled tomatoes were leaking all over the place. It's everything that the description isn't: Grilled ham with melted cheddar, grilled tomatoes & mayo!!
I noticed that it serves dinner at this location... the menu looks appealing and the prices are very reasonable. I'm not sure if I'd come here for dinner given that they don't seem to grill things around here and most of the items on the dinner menu were "grilled". -

Great place. It is super busy on Saturday and Sunday mornings, but that is expected for a good breakfast place. Their Ortega chili and Jack bagel is amazing

If I just wanted to get bagels and coffee, I would probably rate this a 4 star, but they serve a LOT more than that. And unfortunately, the rest isn't all that good. I find their food greasy and heavy. It's not that bad, it's just not that great.
Beyond that, the service is really mediocre. There is always a huge line, and they are simply interested in moving you through it. I am fine with that if it is a fast food joint, but lets be honest, the prices aren't cheap enough to warrant bad service.
After a few bad experiences, I decided to not go to this place anymore. If you want bagels, go to Brueggers on the other end of the parking lot.
I will always give places another go around, especially with how popular it is, but it's going to be a while.Listed in: Aliso Viejo

Ugh, they upped their prices to $7.85 for the chicken sandwiches. Sadness.
I tried the pomodoro sandwich last time and it wasn't as good as the other ones.
I also tried the burger two visits ago and it took FOREVER to come out. My table had already finished eating before it came out!2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Expectations exceeded! I wasn't expecting much when this place opened in our Town Center, but I am a believer.
I don't put much hope in bagel places that serve full menus of food, but all the menu items that we have tried are delightful. California turkey sandwich is great, the Greek salad with chicken is my favorite and the kids chicken tenders are a hit.
The coffee drinks are not as good as Starbucks, but their bakery items are yummy.
Head here for lunch and you won't be disappointed. -

Aliso Viejo, CA
Large menu includes more than just usual breakfast and lunch fare, from a quick glance at the menu, and their specials board, it all looked better than you may expect from a deli-type of restaurant. I would like to return to try more menu choices. The bagels I have tried here (everything bagel) are fresh, tasty, and had a chewy, not too bready bite, which I enjoyed. I ordered it toasted- perfectly golden, and the light garden veg. cream cheese had me uttering yummy noises with every bite. Coffee, iced tea, and spiced (nice) and vanilla (better) chai tea I have enjoyed here are all above average and worth a mention.
I hesitate to rate this place higher, and to return as a customer more often, as it seems that they have bitten off more than they can chew. By that I mean, there is almost always a very long slow moving line to order and nowhere to sit, or even stand, especially on weekends. Once or twice had to wait outside, or in my car for an order that I had originally wanted to enjoy there, and ended up taking it "to-go" because of the crowd. They definitely could use more room, and/or more experienced employees who are better prepared to be "on the ball" during the weekend mornings. Some were cheerful and looked like they were whipping out orders in short time, while others seemed like they were moving through wet cement. Be prepared to get there early/off peak hours, arrive with surplus patience, or otherwise skip it, would be my advice. -

Highly recommended. A nice alternative to Panera, Bagels and Brew has a larger menu. Panera is across the street by Michaels. Michaels is where I like to shop for holiday decorations for my house and next to the Lowes. Lowes is a yuppier Home Depot with nicer shitters.
I tasted a buffalo chicken sandwich with some delicious sweet potato fries. Pretty darn good that was. I also got a bagel with cream cheese and that was okay, not the best bagel in the world. No complaints. -

I love this place. I'm so glad this place finally became a restaurant. Before it was Relax the Back and then Ritz Camera. Dumb!
They have so many options but my favorite is building my own sandwich. And they have tons of side options. They are pretty healthy there too. I feel better eating it compared to Corner Bakery down on La Paz.
Anyway. VERYYY YUMMY. all the time! the only thing i don't like are the pancakes. they are too doughy. but other than that everything is good and the staff is very friendly.
Come here all the time and still will. Awesomeeeee. -

I'm a big fan of bagel places that stay open into the afternoon/evening! I've always craved breakfast foods at any time of the day....so that was a plus. It has kind of a Baudin type feel to it inside, which I like. My daughter and I just got bagels so I'll have to update should I ever venture for a more complete meal there...but from what we got it seemed A-OK to me. Some bagel places have bagels that honestly taste store bought...and sometimes not even THAT good! These bagels weren't dry or flaky at all...no cardboard bagels here! I'd rate this place second only to Einstein Bros....cuz nobody beats there cream cheese selections. But this was def tasty, and they had the perfect amount of cornmeal on the bottoms of the bagels. All in all I was a fan and if i'm in the area i'd def stop thru here again.

Bagels & Brew is a great casual place to grab breakfast or lunch. I can say that this location in Aliso Viejo is not up to speed with the rest of them. You can easily find yourself waiting in line, a short one at that, for 10+ minutes to order. Always well staffed, they just don't seem to get people in and out of the line.
We were there for breakfast. Nothing special, but fairly large portions. You can order a side of potatoes with your meal and it comes on its own plate for $1.49 extra.
One big complaint, besides the wait in line, is that it is usually hard to find seating. Even with a good sized patio, it is meant for groups of 2! -

Stopped in for breakfast and coffee and had to get it to go. While the food is good (one of the better bagels around) the place is just always packed. There is no seating inside or out.
I got the breakfast bagel sandwich with bacon on a jalapeno cheddar bagel. The bagel was toasted perfectly and still very soft on the inside. It was then topped with eggs and two strips of bacon each. I would have preferred if it came with some salsa or a light spread of cream cheese. The sandwich, served open-faced, was a little on the dry side served as it was.
I think the best part of the place had to have been the coffee. They serve Kean Coffee and had four different varieties (mild, med, bold, decaf). Great coffee by Martin Diedrich. -

Yes, I'm a bagel snob - east coast standards. I did not like the bagels - they were too much like bread. I feel like I Heart Bagels is a better choice.
Now I can't comment on the other menu selections, so maybe they do a better sandwich or something else...but Bagels - nope. -

Aliso Viejo, CA
Pros:
1. Large variety of items on the menu.
2. Great location. Walking distance to the movie theatre.
Cons:
1. Poor customer service.
2. Too many kids (teenagers) working there. The teens are unresponsive to customers and not focused on their jobs.
3. Extremely long waits for a simple sandwich. Wait times for the corned beef sandwich are close to 40 minutes.
Memorable Moment:
I asked the cashier what kind of bacon is served on a particular sandwich. His response, "The kind with squiggly lines in it." -

We came here originally just for a tea and to kill some time before our film on Friday night.
I can say I was pleasantly surprised! I was expecting them to close whilst we were there (about 9:15 p.m.), but they were still open and still doing a great business!
My husband ended up ordering the pancakes, which he says were wonderful. (To me, they were just OK. A bit dry - like they'd been sitting out for a while.) The other individuals' food looked great too - so much so that I wanted to go make new friends and go try their food ;-)
When we were here, the free Wi-Fi wasn't working.
I am looking forward to going back to try their full menu. -

This is my weekend brunch place for almost 6 months from the day it started. Until recently they started spoiling the quality of the food.
They don't have consistency of the food being prepared. We ordered 3 omletes the other day and all the 3 were different. One looked like omelets, other looked like it's 1/2 omlete & 1/2 scrambled egg & the 3rd one was completely scrambled egg. HOLY COW!!!!
I saw the 3 and informed the waitress and she was nice and she got her manger and this manager started talking abt all the different ways omlete can be prepared on earth. She was really nice in selling her part of the story. When I showed her the comparison of the 3 omletes which we ordered and she got us our cash back. This happened couple of time.
I really miss my brunch place. Looks like they are having lots of customers now-e-days which they are not able to handle. -

***AMAZING***
Great for Vegetarians and Omnivores!
Great for Kids!
Great working environment!
Price: BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN! #1 Price you will ever find for great food... from steaks, to vegetarian sandwiches, to bagels and iced coffees, they beat everyone!
Food: Amazing. I come here about 3-4 times a week because of their great food, big portions (always take home something) and amazing prices. I only eat fish and vegan food, and go here over the nearby Native Foods. They offer a great veggie sandwich, which you can see I have posted in the photos. You can pick any side with your sandwich for free- fries, cole-slaw, potato salad, pasta salad, garden or caesar salad, onion rings, or fresh fruit. It is so great to get a free side with your sandwich or burger! Altogether, I pay 6.75 and get full for half a day. I've had the Mahi salad and Veggie burger too- which are fantastic and filling.
Service: Amazing. They are always nice. Drinks are self-serve and have a huge amount of options: two different types of fresh tea, soda and lemonades, fresh iced coffee, Kean coffees, and even offer cold Soy milk. (Love it!) If you are not happy with something they will come over and give you something to replace it or make you happy in whatever way they possibly can. (Although, I've never been dissatisfied.) For kids they will make the food quickly and cut it up so it is easier for them to eat.
Ambiance: Best around. They always have a great playlist that I want to steal and take home. Great inside and out, with a lot of fun people watching locations. Seats are half-booth, half-table/chair and nicely accessible for anyone, including stroller feeding.
Overall: Love it! Best place in Aliso Viejo Town Center... and anywhere else that I've been in a long time. Go there A.S.A.P!
P.S: Coffee-Lovers: Do not go to Starbucks at Barnes and Noble- Come here instead! Get WAY more, pay less, better taste! mmmm... espresso. -

Review from Trina D.
A decent breakfast spot with good food. I walked my dog down from my place and we took a table on the patio. It was chilly from the morning rain, but the sun was out and they had space heaters on the patio which helped. There's a vast menu of food items that include bagels, egg scrambles, sandwiches, wraps, and drinks. I ordered the bagelwich on a works bagel with scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheese. Apparently you can opt to get your eggs over easy, sunny side up, or scrambled which is pretty cool.
I also ordered a ice chai latte blended, which is sort of like an ice blended at the Coffee Bean. It tasted exactly the same. You have to pick up your drink at the counter even if the food is brought to your table. That's sort of an inconvenience if you sat out on the patio like I did. I asked for the open faced and the bagel came out toasted with the eggs, cheese, and bacon. It was pretty standard. The bagel was only barely toasted. It could have used another run through the toaster. The bacon was limp. I was sad. There was another table nearby and they got their bacon "crispy." I wish I had known that "crispy" was an option! It's an ok breakfast joint in the middle of the Aliso Viejo Town Center. I didn't have very high expectations for it, but a lot of my neighbors were happy that it opened. I guess it's because dining options in Aliso Viejo are few and far between.Listed in: Suki-approved places (Suki is…, My Neighborhood

I think the name Bagels & Brew is a little misleading. Yes, they have bagels and yes, they have coffee, but they also have a lot more on the menu, like a breakfast burrito, salads, burgers, and pancakes. Maybe Bagels & Brew & Stuff?
I ended up getting a breakfast bagel with eggs and sausage. The eggs and sausage are tons better than the other bagel joint in the the same shopping complex on the far side. What makes it better? The sausage is actually cooked on the flat top and you get that excellent char like you can only get from the flat top. And the eggs, are real eggs not that egg looking disc you find in the frozen food. The other joint is definitely microwave and then steamed in the hotel pan to keep hot.
I am definitely going to come back to try that breakfast burrito. For now, I am giving them a 4.5 and round down to 4 stars until the next time. If their non-bagel items are just as good, then they will easily get that 5 star on my next visit! -

I go here all the time for lunch. They have an extensive menu. I especially like that they have several grilled chicken sandwiches that are good. I've had:
BLT
Honey Mustard Chicken Sandwich
Ranch Chicken Sandwich, on special
Southwestern Chicken Salad
Chicken Cesar Salad
Flatiron Steak Sandwich
Country Club
Chicken Club Sandwich
I love that I can call my order in and it's ready when I get there. I even called the wrong location and they still helped me at the take out line.
Management is doing a great job. Guess I should try a bagel one of these days? :) -

Mission Viejo, CA
This place has been extremely popular since the day it opened. There are two other B&B restaurants in the area (Mission Viejo & Lake Forest), so they already had a significant amount of name recognition. This location, unlike the others, has a full kitchen, which allows for an expanded menu, including dinner. I've been a regular here for breakfast. I've never been served a bagel that didn't taste like it was made that day. The breakfast entrees are cooked to order, and you're not left waiting for long before your food arrives. They serve Kean coffee, which is the new brand of Martin Diedrich, and I can't seem to get enough of the French Roast.
The food here is good, the environment relaxing and the employees friendly. Another reviewer stated the place was dirty, which left me puzzled. I have easily been in this restaurant 25 times since they opened and have never seen anything to back that up. They have a heated outdoor patio and free wi-fi, which is always appreciated. -

This is one of my favorite places. I used to work at the mission viejo one 12 years ago and i can attest to the great ways this business is ran (family owned), and the freshness of the food.
I came to this AV one today for the first time and i LOVE it. Love the patio seating. Love love love. Food was awesome as usual.
Let me tell you, this place has THE best bagels and cream cheeses i have ever had in my life. Cheese and pizza bagels - to die for.
I love the breakfast food - bagelwich, sunrise sandwich, and omelettes with a bagel - ALL fantastic.
Sandwiches - yum yum yum. Turkey, cream cheese, cranberry on a sesame bagel - holy moly good!
Salads are great too, though honestly, if you come here you need to get a bagel product.
Living in Nor Cal now, I miss this place SO much. I love you B&B. -

Bagels and Brew serves more than its name will lead you to believe. They have an array of breakfast items on their menu, and also serves lunch and dinner. We dine here often - at least once per week, usually for breakfast. The food is pretty good - I love their waffles and Little Man really enjoys the blueberry pancakes. There is ample patio seating, which is nice (even though the view is of the parking lot).
What I really dislike about this place is that the quality of the food, as well as the service is consistently inconsistent! Sometimes the food comes out fresh and delicious, and other times it's just not up to standards. The coffee is not kept up during busy hours, and patrons end up standing around waiting for them to brew more coffee. The staff is very young, and seems untrained. With just a Little bit of guidance, I know that they can greatly increase the efficiency in the restaurant.
We will continue to eat here and hope that quality and service will improve. -

Review from Shane D.
This place has the potential to be 4 or even 5 stars, but there are a few issues holding it back just a touch.
First of all, the concept is great. It's like a cross between Breuggers bagels, Panera Bread, and Starbucks. Fresh coffee and tea, great fresh baked bagels, and a way bigger menu of awesome breakfast and lunch items than the others.
Although bigger than Breuggers, it's way smaller than Panera. So there is limited seating available if dining in. That means many people just get it to go. But that seems to create a log jam of people standing around waiting to pick up their orders in a small space. They are pretty quick, but it can be a little chaotic at peak times. I've been here later in the day though and it was fine.
But they seemed too slow to clear tables to me, which also slows down the line. At one point I counted 6 tables with no people but dirty plates sitting on the table, and nobody cleaning them up. But after about 5 minutes two girls came out and cleared everything. Just a little slow to react it seems.
One nice touch is that they have free wifi. However, if you're thinking this would be a great place to bust the laptop out and do some work (like so many people do at Panera), make sure you charge up first. I only found one outlet in the whole place that was near a table.
More importantly though, the food is great. Each bagel I've tasted was very good, the portions are good sized plus include your choice of a side dish (caesar or side salad, chips, fries, potato or pasta salad, coleslaw, or apple) On my recent trip I had a huge Tarragon Chicken Salad with cranberries on a Hawaiian bagel w/ a side salad for $6.65. Not bad. The only issue I had was they sliced my bagel way off center, so the top was too thick and the bottom paper thin, which made it fall apart when I picked it up. But I'm sure that was just a isolated mishap.
They even have a full array of other bread options for hot and cold sandwiches, breakfast options, and even a few dinner choices like blackened salmon and flat iron steak.
If they work on the customer flow a little more and get some outlets, this would be a 4 or 5 star choice. -

Great GREAT job! Every time I go I'm stoked on the place. I drive over from Mission Viejo at least 1 x per week. The breakfast is all a 5 star and you would think the story would end there... NO WAY! The lunches are epic too. I used to go to the one on Lake Forrest for lunch all the time and it was a line out the door every day. Cranberry & turkey sandwich on a combo bagel... damn that just made me hungry.
Nice comfortable indoor / outdoor seating.
The wait to get food can be a bit more than you would expect but its so worth it. -

Aliso Viejo, CA
Just wanted to reiterate how incredible this place is. You honestly cannot beat their quality and prices. Not only does it kick Starbuck's ass, but it also gives the boot to just about every other restaurant in a 10 mile radius. I go there at least twice a week, and, as sad as it may seem, those are the two days I look forward to the most. BRAVISIMO, Bagels and Brew, you are one of the few highlights of my adopted California existence.
I don't know how you SoCal folk can drive around here. Any time I plop my New York ass into the car I feel like opening the window and yelling, "I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE." Considering the bewildered glances that are thrown my way, it is suddenly apparent that I have serious rage issues. The 405 (or any other major highway) is what I imagine Satan's playground to look and feel like. Thankfully, however, there is a heaven to my hell and that illustrious, pearly gated arena of sweet, sexy awesomeness is none other than Bagels and Brew.
If Bagels and Brew had hammocks swinging by their bagel display I would most certainly be spending the night there. Slumber Party anyone? I'll bring the s'mores!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Good food and reasonably priced. Surprisingly wide menu variety for a place that you'd expect just bagels from. I've eaten there for dinner once and was pleased with the special (Steak, sauted spinach, and potatoes) but the service was a little slow. Breakfast seems to come out quicker. I've seen all the complaints about service and am not surprised.

Saturday night I looked online to find out if it was too late to grab a burger at Bagels & Brew. It was 9:45 p.m. and their website said they close at 11 p.m. so I had over an hour to spare. I placed an online order for the Aliso Viejo location and received a confirmation email. Ten minutes later I drove to the restaurant only to discover that they were closed.
I was informed that they would put my name in the "book" so that next time I came there, my meal would be free. The fact that they have to have an entire book to comp meals says a lot.
Previously I've been a fan of the place, but poor customer service puts me off. The hours on their website and for their online ordering system are WRONG by one full hour. -

This place has 3 things going for it: location, big menu, and free wifi. Or another trifecta: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. That makes for 3 stars.
Notice what's missing, hmmm? Prices not the lowest. Food doesn't come out the quickest. Service is hit and miss. and they make you sign the credit card receipt regardless of amount -- that's an easy fix isn't it?
This morning's cashier wasn't hearing and remembering, kept asking me to repeat myself. Did I get my cup for coffee? Yes. and asked 2 more times after she gave it to me. I wouldn't mind a side conversation. Repetition isn't fun for me. I don't know about you.
Last time they lost and forgot my order because someone couldn't read the handwriting?! I had order #29 and they thought it was #20, and couldn't find me. But there's no handwriting involved-- numbers are computer printed! Did I get a free coffee or free bagel? No.
Do I keep coming back? Yes. Still love the bottomless coffee, free wifi, and people watching. -

Bagels & Brew is my local spot. I eat there at least 5 times a week. Seriously, sometimes twice in one day. I've never visited a restaurant as often as B&B because I actually love to cook. This place makes it too easy, though! Their food is consistently delicious, prices are incredible, they serve Kean coffee [my local fave], and they are just down the street. What more could a food loving, coffee addicted, girl on a budget wish for?

The bright red Bagels & Brew sign was like an oasis in the desert of parking lot vehicles roasting under an unseasonably warm January morning. Returning from a hike in nearby Aliso Woods, my companion and I were *just* talking about how perfect a nice, cold beer would taste. Since I'm not a huge fan of the food at Stadium Brewery, I was relieved to see an additional brew option. Sure, bagels and beer are an odd combination, but who am I to question emerging food trends, especially with 'gourmet' food trucks popping up left and right?
We parked and went inside. The place reminded me a bit of Corner Bakery - but with beer? One could only hope. It turns out that our beer oasis was nothing but a mirage. My companion was studying the food menu when I let out a small gasp and mumbled, "we gotta go." He questioned me.
"They don't sell beer here."
"They DON'T??"
"No..."
"What the...you probably don't want to put the word 'brew' into your name unless you actually serve beer."
Yes, I agreed and we promptly left.
It wasn't till we were enjoying libations at a nearby eatery that I realized the 'brew' meant coffee...ohhh....right.
