I drove by the place at 2 A.M. Saturday morning as a way to stop my nodding out at the wheel, deciding that a coffee and bagel were just the ticket and, boy, was I surprised at the outcome.  There was that all-too-rare sense of all your bagel fantasies coming true AND confidence that stomach cramps and worse (I won't even mention the "D" word) would NOT rear (no pun intended) its ugly head.

Not only was the food arranged neatly, cleanly and in seemingly unlimited supply, but three gorgeous, happy and friendly Brooklyn babes came in and made it seem as if they were making their usual rounds and checking in to partake in a gathering of those seeking the hot breathy coming-together over lusty, tasty....oops, did I fall in love again?

It's so awesome that I almost shed a tear every time when I walk in. Please open up more locations in bay ridge. You obviously have more customers than you can handle. Please just open one next to my apartment. I'll eat there everyday, I promise.

I love places that can provide you with the simplest things (bagel/sandwich and coffee) and completely excel in quality.  You'll understand why there's always a line here once you've had a try.

Meh. Not a fan of the bagels, but they have a lot of other good stuff - pastries, cream cheese flavors, salads, iced coffees/teas etc. People in there are great.

My God do i love Bagel Boy, i hate bringing God into my review but this place is just absolute heaven.

Jalapeño cream cheese on a hot fresh bagel is perfection, all their bagels are top quality and two steps above the rest with a million types of cream cheese options from blueberry to bacon cheese to soy....my mouth is watering now!

They have a ton of other products like sandwiches, wraps and such and are open 24 hours, making fresh bagels around the clock.

Their catering is also amazing - We recently had a tragedy in the family and had catering from Bagel Boy, they provided the pefect platter with gigantic soft chewy bagels from cinnamon raisin to sesame to pumpernickel. Giant slabs of cream cheese on a separate platter with lox spread, veggie, chive and others with butter and a nice tub of jelly in the middle. Great presentation that hit the spot during a difficult morning.

There is not one thing wrong with Bagel Boy except for the fact that i do not have a bagel in my hand right now to enjoy.

They are the reason Brooklyn is the bagel capital of the universe.

There would have been a time when I would have given Bagel Boy five stars just for their bagels. I didn't even mind paying a little more for what I figured to be quality product. Until I discovered this:

I used to go to Bagel Boy at least every other day just for the soup. It was delicious--creamy when it should be creamy, salty when it should be salty, and, above all, always fresh. Bagel Boy was my go to, quick soup fix.

Then one day I was in Associated Grocery Store on the next block doing my shopping. I'm at the check out line when I see one of the head honchos of Bagel Boy buying..........twelve cans of Progresso soup.

I walked out of the store behind him, and, sure enough, he went into the back employee entrance of Bagel Boy.

Charging 5 dollars for a cup of canned soup that you paid $3 for 2 cans??

Buy the bagels if you must, but skip the other "home made" treats.

THIS PLACE IS A HIDDEN GEM PEOPLE! Look. I am probably the last person to have wound up in this area. Long story, but I ended up having to go to Bay Ridge to pick up something I had lost, on a rainy summer day in New York on a Sunday. Awful. Simply worst timing possible.

However, Bagel Boy was the best thing that ever happened to me. I walked in and was concerned but all I had been thinking about my entire time in New York was how I wanted to try the Brooklyn bagel that I had been hearing about for so long (I have an avid Brooklyn native friend who raves nonstop about Brooklyn--honestly though, what he says is generally true). I got a plain bagel--I'm a purist. Eating it on my way out I was blown away. After I got two blocks out and one bagel down, I turned around to go back to the store. I bought 6 for my friend (who is a carb-lover) and 6 for myself. Couldn't hold back. Simply amazing bagels. Was worth the 3 hour detour I took from Manhattan to get here.

Bagel Boy is a 100% authentic Bay Ridge food institution.

I'm on a serious diet/lifestyle change, and Saturday is my designated cheat day.

And where do I head immediately after waking on Saturday mornings?

Well, I go straight to Bagel Boy to pick up a poppy-seed or plain bagel with which to make my bacon, egg & cheese sandwich. I would have the guys there make it, but I can't justify asking another human being to go through my ridiculous breakfast sandwich-making process.

Seriously though, Bagel Boy's bagels are awesome. Modestly crispy on the outside, and nice and mushy on the insider. They also use some kind of magic butter that is absolutely amazing.

The salad bar also rocks. They use really fresh lettuce and a pretty impressive selection of ingredients including blue cheese, two types of walnuts, and egg whites. Goat cheese would be nice but you can't have everything in this life. The Italian dressing is AMAZING.

    What else can I say?

Are you in Bay Ridge and in need of Bagels? Then go to Bagel Boy NOW!

    Great Bagels.

Something about having a NYC bagel and there is something about having a Bagel Boy Bagel. They are made daily and are good even by themselves. Every time I bite into a Bagel Boy Bagel with Scallion Cream Cheese I can feel the happiness it brings to my taste buds (along with a nice cup of Joe which just cements its)

The only draw back is the price and over time the chewing of the Bagels make my jaws hurt. If I could I would go everyday. Unfortunately, I treat myself probably once in a while.

If you haven't, then you should try.

This place is the best.  The owner is awesome, the staff is always friendly and attentive, and most importantly, the food is scrumptious.  Everything there is homemade, and you can tell the owner takes pride in the quality of all of it.  The bagels are continuously made fresh, and no matter how busy the place gets, the staff always makes my sandwich to my specifications, and they do it efficiently.  This is one of my favorite businesses in the bay ridge area, so needless to say, I highly recommend it.

Best bagels I have ever tasted, moist on the inside.  Put some flavored cream cheese in the middle? HEAVENNN

They also make great wraps and salads.  I always ask them to toast the wrap on the panini grill.  I am their master, I tell them what I want and they do it!
Tip: If you want a really fresh wrap, don't order the ones that are on the menu, create something yourself and have the guys make it.

The salad bar is extensive, with awesome mixins, mostly fresh.

Stay away from the paninis.  Don't park your car at the bus stop, you will get a ticket!

Bagel Boy has the best Bagels in Brooklyn. Terrace Bagels is a close second, Dyker Park Bagels 3rd and La Bagel Delight 4th. Midwood Deli & Cropsey Bagels used to be up there too but have fallen on hard times. There's also a great runner up called Brooklyn Bagels (5th & 87th) which deserves an honorable mention.
Back to the topic, these bagels are perfectly dense and chewy but still light and crispy. A bit small but well-made. If they were 24/7 like Dyker I'd camp out here semi-permanently, as Bagel Boy has better bagels and faster service. it's worth a trip out if you're picking up weight; parking in Bay Ridge is bad on weekends but it's still a breeze compared to Park Slope anytime.

I live in NY...UES...now Brooklyn....I know bagels. These bagels are the best Ive had yet.

Cream Cheese: Im such a brat when it comes to it.
Theirs is not only the freshest, but they are very liberal but not sickening. The flavor choices are fantastic- Jalapeno Cheddar- NOM!

The staff is fast, courteous and knowledgeable. They have whitefish salad and its to die for. They have a fantastic selection of salads, spreads, drinks and desserts!

This all combined with the fantastic prices, Ill be here often....

Every time I stop by Brooklyn, my belly knows she needs a bagel boy's everything bagel.  By far my favorite bagel place with the freshest non-fishy tasting lox.  They have a bunch of different cream cheese flavors but any one of them on a nicely toasted bagel is just perfect.

It's a shame that there's no seating area in the place but there's a park bench right outside that's always great for chowing down your bagel.

I had forgotten about Bagel Boy until just this morning when I went to see a Doctor located right next door.  Upon coming out of the Doctor's office, I saw Bagel Boy and thought "YES YES YES.  An everything bagel will melt my sorrows away right now" and I made a beeline for the door.

They changed the layout a bit since the last time I came in, and I like it.  They are like a well-oiled machine.  Great service.

I ordered an everything bagel with egg whites, turkey bacon, swiss cheese and tomato and it was ready in under 3 minutes.

As for the bagel itself, all I can say is that I've lived in NYC for most of my life, and I have had many a good bagel, but nothing, I mean NOTHING, compares to Bagel Boy on 3rd.  NOTHING.  Understand?  N-O-T-H-I-N-G!

The bagel is perfection, moist on the inside, crispy on the outside, puffy, the "everything" on both sides of the bagel.  Effin YUM!

So, thank YOU Bagel Boy for reminding me of your awesomeness, and thank you for making a sick girl smile if even for a single moment this entire week.  I love you.  Will you marry me?

If, hypothetically speaking, you miss your exit on the Belt Parkway and accidentally end up in Staten Island, via the Verrazano Bridge [goodbye $13], then you'll need to undue that act of stupidity with a bagel and cream cheese -- BLUEBERRY CREAM CHEESE to be exact -- from Bagel Boy. Add black coffee to the equation and you're fucking golden. $13 poorer [eff you, tolls], but golden!

Bagel Boy is my absolute favorite bagel place in the universe. I moved to the west coast for seven years and Bagel Boy was always one of my first stops when I came home for a visit.

I'm a pretty easy customer - plain bagel with butter - and it's perfect every time. I've been going to Bagel Boy since it opened and it just keeps getting better. I've had their sandwiches and salads and they're all amazing but the bagels are what gets me. I wouldn't buy cold cuts from them - the folded paper packaging doesn't seem to keep things as fresh as the plastic bags from the supermarket down the street - but the sandwiches are awesome, especially on a bagel. I love these bagels so much I had an ex-boyfriend overnight me a box of bagels across the country.

The store is really crowded in the mornings but the guys behind the counter work quickly and get you in and out as quickly as possible. The other bagel stores in Bay Ridge can't compare to Bagel Boy - I'd recommend it even if I didn't live a block away.

The bagels are probably the best in the area. (Also had the privilege of having some fresh out of the oven at 5:30 am and it was just...heaven)

The salt and everything bagels are a bit too much salt (they use sea salt) for my tastes, but all in all, it's beautifully crispy on the outside, and the inside has that nice bit of chew without tasting like cheap dough.

The cream cheeses that are made in house are great and the variety makes it hard to pick just one.

The panini's are ok at best though...I would stick to the bagels (getting 3 free for buying 12 bagels doesn't hurt either.)

I ordered the same lox & cream cheese sandwich on 3 different days within the same week and was charged 3 different prices.  When I became fed up enough to call them on it they used the "we charge for lettuce/onion/tomatoes" excuse.

So, let me iterate this in caps: CHARGING EXTRA FOR LETTUCE, ONIONS, AND/OR TOMATOES ON YOUR SANDWICH IS AN UNFORGIVABLE SIN THAT DESERVES TO BE PUNISHED BY A FIERY ETERNITY IN HELL.

Holy moly on the options! Although it's a zoo inside, the line seems to move along nicely. The bagels are giant, but they are not as soft on the inside as I would like. You have to gnaw on them for a while, like a dog on a rawhide bone.

    Good spot.

This place must have gone through a face lift since the last time I went in here 5+ years ago, but it's really nice inside.

The Cinnamon raisin bagel with butter was very good.  But the large coffee, was a bitter.   That, plus the bitter coffee holds this at 3 stars, but could easily be a 4.

Total for those 2 items was just under $3, not stellar, but reasonable.
What I really like about this place was the quickness and efficiency of the checkout line.
I was bumped to the front of the line, since the people in front of me, were waiting on egg/bagel orders.  That stuff speeds my day, and I like the efficiency.

Hmmm I can't really tell the difference in bagels (the everything bagel wheat) vs the dyker place. They have pretty similiar cream cheese options. 2 bagels with scallions and jalopeno cheedar cheese cost $8!

I do enjoy the bagels but perhaps next time I should just get the plain cheese. It was just an overwhelming mouth full of flavors. Too bad there's no where to sit!

The bagels are good, and on weekend occasionally make the trip in to pick one up. This establishment suffers from something many NYC places have: an unknown organization system. Yes, there does appear to be a "flow" to where you should order... but how much you should order from that guy? Do I order my coffee at the register? If I just want a drink, do I have to wait in the line, or can I just go to the register?

I'm sure to anyone who's lived here forever these might sound like crazy questions. Maybe they are, but that time I tried testing one of my theories on the line that woman gave me one hell of a dirty look.

Excellent bagels - chewy enough, not too soft (although no bagelry I know of makes bagels like when I was a kid, when you REALLY had to chew them, their skins were so thick and tough - I kinda miss that!).  Plentiful toppings - like ALL OVER the bagels (I HATE it when I order a sesame bagel somewhere and get, like, 8 sesame seeds sprinkled over top!) and all the varieties you'd expect.  Points for having light cream cheese as well as regular for a schmeer.  Their deli salads are great too - we've gone there at all hours of the morning (open 24 hours!  YAY!) for wonderful tangy egg salad and delicious creamy chicken salad, both on everything bagels.  The place is often packed (easy to tell why!) but the service is great - they keep the line moving quickly and efficiently.

Friends way out in Western NJ near the PA border requested we bring them bagels on a recent trip, saying they can't get any good ones where they live.  We brought a couple dozen Bagel Boy bagels with deli salads, and they were extremely pleased, pronouncing them "delicious."

And they get special mention for honesty and integrity, too.  A few months ago, I was in there on a Saturday morning to get some bagels / sandwiches for the road on our way to a weekend in DC.  When we got to the hotel in VA, I found my wallet was missing.  Mentally retracing my steps, I realized the last place I'd had it was at Bagel Boy, so I phoned the store, and sure enough, a customer had found my wallet on the floor and given it to the cashier.  They locked it up for me until I was able to come in a couple nights later to pick it up, and I had no trouble at all - nothing was missing, my cards had not been used or tampered with.  Thank you for that, Bagel Boy management.

And most of all, thank you for the BEST bagels in Bay Ridge!  Recommend highly.

EDIT:  Having just had a bagel from Tasty Bagels on 86th St. and 17th Ave. for the first time, I'm upgrading Bagel Boy from 4 to 5 stars.  Tasty Bagels's product was good, but if I'm about to rate them 4 stars, Bagel Boy deserves 5.

One of the few good bagels in Bay Ridge.  There is always a long line here (which always says something about a place).  I like the way they keep the line moving.

I am a huge fan of Sausage, Egg, and Cheese on croissants.  The problem here was that they don't have great croissants and that kind of kills the sandwich.  Other than that, they have a great drink selection for whatever you could possibly be in the mood for in the morning (or whenever you stop in).

This place tends to be a mad house during the mornings/weekends and Yes the staff does get your order wrong from time to time but c'mon it's Brooklyn, more importantly bay ridge. Anyone that knows Brooklyn (old Brooklyn that is) knows that this comes with the territory. On the upside, the more you go the less likely they are to get your order wrong. Other than that they have a huge selection of delicious bagels, lots of different cream cheeses and the sandwiches are monstrous.
