I've literally spent every weekend grabbing a bagel for breakfast after a hard morning practice at AGUA growing up and Bagel Bobs has never disappointed me.

the bagels, mini muffins, coffee and the usually friendly staff...  just awesome.

my favorites: everything, cinnamon raisin, sesame, whole wheat and the flat everything

dont let the dauntingly long line fool you during its peak hours (weekend mornings from 8ish-10ish), you'll get your freshly baked bagels in no time!

Not a huge fan actually.  Bagels were really chewey and dense instead of being warm, light and airy.  They really need to sort out their cream cheese spreading... a pitifully meager amount for a new york sized bagel (though these bagels looked smaller than usual).

We came here to avoid the prices at the Mansion next door, but next time I will make the trip to H and H instead.  They are still bagel kings in my book.

Some of the best, freshest bagels. I usually order sausage, egg and cheese with tomato and onion on a whole-wheat everything bagel, and time and again, it's delicious! I love coming in on winter weekends, as the place is warm and buzzing with people. The staff is hustling and taking orders, but friendly. There is a sense of real old school New York there. The coffee is also quite good and prices, overall, are reasonable.

There is a $5 CC minimum and not a lot of sitting space, so either be prepared to wait or just take the food home and eat it there.

Easy, fresh, delicious, and lots of variety. What more could you want from a bagel place? Not only do they have lots of flavor varieties, but also mini bagels and whole wheat bagels (including whole wheat everything!) Regular, low fat, fat free, and tofu cream cheese is also available in a ton of flavors. I'm a fan of the tofu veggie with on a whole wheat everything bagel if you want something a bit healthier than the norm.

Iced coffee comes in three flavors. If you ask for sugar, by default they MELT the sugar, just an FYI if that's not how you want it to come...

Loads of other baked goods like bagel twists, coffee cake, muffins, knishes, and more!

    Takes credit cards!

The bagels here are excellent. The price for a bagel with lox was not. I paid almost $10 with tax for about 2 slices of nova scotia.

The everything bagels here are fantastic.  I also love the lox spread and cinnamon raisin walnut cc; the scallion tofu spread is pretty good too but I like the cc better.  We always grab a dozen (they give you 15 on Saturdays!) to bring back home to PA every time we are in the area...along with a couple of containers of the cinnamon raisin spread. They keep quite well in the freezer.

cheap place as long as you do not ask for cream cheese on your bagel that comes with the breakfast platters (still havent figured out how cream cheese on your bagel is a $2 upcharge in NY, its a mere smear of schmear for christ's sake).  Also, like everywhere in NY fresh squeezed Orange Juice is a delicacy apparently so it is expensive...but that is just my beef with both Bagel Bobs and nearby Bagel Express.  Having said that they are fast and the breakfast specials are super cheap and filling.

Plain bagel with lox spread.  Good bagel, not the best I've ever had, but the lox spread was the best I can find in manhattan.  Definitely recommended. A bit pricey for what they sell, but you'd be hard presssed to find a good bagel combined with a great spread that they will make for you.  All in all, recommended.

Bagels & the food is good.
The owner is a nice guy and makes an effort to keep the standards up.

The 2 stars is due to the HUGE ATTITUDE from the guys behind the counter. The big Latino guy thinks he's doing you a favor by ringing you up. They don't like if you're in a hurry. The whole damn city is in a HURRY.  This is not a "one off" experience. It's the main reason why I go to Bagel Mill. I have worked in bagel places as a kid. I understand this business.
Greeting people with attitude just makes them go elsewhere.

Other than that place makes a decent bagel.

This place is only "Ok" the main reason I frequent this establishment is because its the closest bagel place to my apartment.

The service is fast and they are very friendly and reasonably priced.  However, the bagels for me lack a little.  When I order an everything bagel I want it to have everything and theirs are very light on the stuff that makes an everything bagel an everything bagel, often times with nothing on top.

However, the muffins are amazingly delicious and I do enjoy their Honey Mustard Chicken Salad.

Yes, I'm a tourist and wanted good New York bagels. This place was nearby, had decent reviews, even had a website with a menu (woah!) but I'm going to have to be a jerk and 1-star this baby.

    1. They charged me practically double for everything I got. Even after asking the guy over the phone, "so your weekend special is still on and it's $5.40, right?" I explained this to the cashier when I picked up my order, and he gave me some "$10.20 for you" nonsense.

    2. My egg sandwiches were supposed to come with coffee. They did not.

    3. The bialy is pretty damn dry and tasteless (are they supposed to be?)

    4. The salt bagels were not salty. I'm a salt fiend, admittedly, but come on. I need a little more than a few coarse grains that wind up in the bottom of the bag.

I'll stop there, because my blood pressure is rising again and I visited Bagel Bob's weeks ago and had finally gotten over my disappointment with this place.

Meh. Bagels are small, toppings are on the light side (hardly any everything on the everything), and cream cheese is rich, but not flavorful.

I used to live on 84th and York, and would have Bagel Bob's almost every weekend. They have a large selection of bagels and spreads - my favorite to order was everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese. Yum! The staff was always very efficient and friendly.

Definitely one of the top places I miss about the UES.

Only reason it gets 2 stars is the fact that they serve "food" (although wouldn't feed it to a dog) and they deliver; 1 star for each.

We ordered everything bagels with vegetable cream-cheese and they were obviously made by a blind man who has no taste buds.

These are by far the most bland boring unattractive disappointing bagels I've ever seen. The everything bagel was more like a nothing bagel and was dry.

The cream-cheese was too rich and most importantly had zero flavor.

Only order from this place if you enjoy mediocre food. If you want an amazing bagel try essa bagel or bagels & co.

Bagels are a "safe" food. Bagels are the safe gay friend that every ridiculously hawt girl has. You know, really just non-offensive. When out-of-towners spend the weekend / you're blitzed by last night's attack on happy hour drink specials / you're recovering from the sleepover with that train wreck of a hooker*...all situations require breakfast. I defer to the safe bagel. There is no better place in NYC to get bagels than Bagel Bobs. Bagel Bobs calls Yorkville home, and on weekend mornings you will notice a teeming refuge for hungover UES snot-bags in hoodys of their alma mater jostling with annoying children scattered in a cacophony begging for orange juice. This chaos is exaggerated accordingly by the size of Bob's quarters, which is to say that it's intimate (read, small).

It's really quite simple. Order an everything bagel with plain cream cheese, and grab some extra bagels for all of your visitors. At first blush the line is overwhelming, but it moves quickly. Worst case scenario - it gives you ample time to go through those breathing techniques that your therapist recommended when you feel your anger levels rising on account of the spawn of Satan compounding your migraine. WooSaaaahh.

Another option is to simply have them deliver an assortment of bagels and cream cheese, but really...what fun is that?

*Note: bagels and cream cheese should not be considered an acceptable form of prophylactic and should not be used in lieu of a condom with said hooker, but she'll surely appreciate the bagel.

Usually when I want a breakfast sandwich and a coffee I head over to Bagel Express which is down the block on 2nd ave, but many times there is a ridiculous line out there door which pisses me off.  Recently this was the case, so I decided to give this place a shot.  Not to my surprise, I was also faced with a long line when I showed up.  However, the line moved very fast with startling efficiency.  The bagels were not as big as Bagel Express, but I would say they were on par taste wise.  My bacon egg and cheese was made right, and I also enjoyed my small coffee.  Prices here are great and I definitely paid less than I normally do at Bagel Express.  I would go back here, but will likely stick to Bagel Express due to its close proximity to my apt and the bigger bagels.

I used to live at 88th and York and this was the closest bagel shop to my apartment.  I recently moved to 91st and 2nd, and with Bagel Express right around the corner, I'll still walk 10 minutes - in rain and snow - to Bagel Bobs.

They, by far, have the best bagels and most generous portions of cream cheese (most offered with a low-fat option) in New York.  Their bagels are fresh and filling, the service fast and friendly.  They also offer a whole-wheat everything bagel which can be kind of difficult to find in New York.

I go every single Sunday, NY Post in hand, and eat my breakfast while reading the paper in their little sun-room which offers a front-row seat to people-watching.

Just make sure you get here early (before 11AM) on the weekends, otherwise you may find yourself waiting for a table.

I ADORE Bagel Bob's. I went to school a few blocks over from it for 5 years and I had so many delicious bagels, breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, and salads from this place all for incredibly reasonable prices considering it's on the Upper East Side.
All of they're bagels are great, and I personally think they have some of the best raisin bagels in the city.
The nearest alternative is probably Hot&Crusty on 86th and Lex, and Bagel Bob's beats them by far.
The line in the morning can be crazy but the service is always really fast and the guys who work here are pretty awesome, cool people with good attitudes.

I was on my way home up to Yonkers and I read these positive reviews and decided to stop at Bagel Bob's for a dozen. They had a good selection - a very yummy pumpernickel and whole wheat everything bagels, which I have never seen before and my boyfriend is obsessed with them now. Plus the dozen and one extra only came to $10.80.
I also liked how they had a large variety of sandwiches and good tea. My only complaint is that they wouldn't make me an egg bacon and cheese bagel at 2 pm.

On my very first morning in NYC my cousin took me to this place for my very first New York bagel and it was well worth the jaunt! My cousin lives right across the street from another bagel place but insisted that we walk to Bagel Bobs; I definitely agree with my cousin on this as I tried the other place the following morning. Anyways, we both ordered cinnamon raisin bagels and I ordered my cream cheese on the side. The bagel was amazing! I've never had a bagel like it before; perfectly soft on the inside and so so so warm! They gave me a small bucket of cream cheese I think it was probably half a Philadelphia sized container so I'm definitely glad I ordered on the side if it's any indicator of how much they spread on your bagel. I am forever grateful for my cousin because she was thoughtful enough to make sure my first New York bagel experience was a good one.

Ohhh Bob's Bagel's. Always busy, always delicious. This is a weekend staple for me and it seems like pretty much everyone else who lives on York. The line in the morning is crazy but worth the wait! The staff moves fast so don't you worry, you'll have your bagel and fresh made cream cheese in no time.

I either get a breakfast sandwich or an everything bagel with garlic and onion cream cheese. Please note, I hate cream cheese! But there's something about Bob's version that's so flavorful, so delightful I simply can't resist it.

This is a great place to take visitors, too. It's a classic New York neighborhood shop and they'll get to have a "New York bagel" which I'm finding is a goal among all my visitors.

So, go forth and enjoy breakfast but don't tell too many people. Did I mention how long the line gets?

The best part about Bagel Bob's, to me, is the variety. Keep in mind that I've only been there twice and ordered something once (the first time I ate half of my girlfriend's because I thought  wasn't hungry).

The shop is simple, fast and clean and I can't ask for much more than that.

Oh by the way, the something I ordered was bacon, egg and cheese on a wheat bagel with everything.

Having said that, I CRAVE Bagel Bob's everything bagels.   I've been there three times.  First time: Bacon egg and cheese on an onion bagel, second and third times: Everything bagel with scallion cream cheese.  So delicious.  Love the cream cheese.  Friendly staff, huge selection, and the place is super clean.  Their iced hazelnut coffee is definitely something to write home about.

This place gets two stars instead of one because the bagels are pretty good. Everything else is terrible. I don't know who was behind the counter when other reviewers went, but every time I have been there, the service is brisk at best and downright rude at worst. No thank you's at the register, and I've actually heard the staff mocking customers in Spanish then laughing obnoxiously. The prices are outrageous. $3.85 for a plain bagel with strawberry cream cheese? Get real. 2.95 for a small coffee?! Not a chance. I know this is NYC and everything is expensive, but $6.95 for plain egg salad on a roll is pretty ballsy. In addition, almost everyone here speaks a little bit of Spanish, no matter how Irish they look. If you want a good bagel (or any sandwich for that matter) at a reasonable price with truly friendly service, check out Bagel Mill on 88th and 1st. You will never go back to Bob's.

Glad to see Bagel Bob's open again after their fire in Dec.  I like this space to sit and eat a bagel more than I actually like their bagels.  The bagels are the light kind, sort of a cross between an old fashioned chewy bagel (which is boiled first), and Wonder white bread.  The tuna salad is quite good, though.  The shop has a very nice glass enclosed section right on street level with about eight tables, which makes it a lovely place for people watching.

Bagel Bob's can be summed up in one word: decent. It's got decent bagels, decent sandwiches, and decent prices. Nothing is really bad and nothing really stands out as an awesome breakfast option. Given the area it's better to go to Bagel Mill or Choux Factory (both on 1st Ave, 86th & 87th respectively) then to spend your money at Bagel Bob's. However, if you don't feel like walking the extra Ave, Bagel Bob's will certainly do in a pinch.
