Review from Larry J.
Hillsborough, NJ
I've traveled all over NJ and NY for work and make it a point to try bagels wherever I go. This is the best bagel place in NJ hands down and I live within 5 miles of it! Big gorgeous hand rolled bagels with just the right amount of chewy and soft. Hints of sweetness in the dough, always fresh.....Fabulous. When I had realtives from NY come in and said that I would pick up some bagels I could see them roll their eyes. They looked at me with a mixture of apprehension and pity. They wound up plowing through a couple dozen Bagel Barn bagels and were licking their plates. Where did you get these?? How can a place like this be way out in NJ?? What the hell is going on here?? Poor bastards never stood a chance.
BTW, I've been to Bagel Street in Plainsboro many times and while they are pretty good comparing them to Bagel Barn is like comparing a Timex to a Rolex. -

The bagels are pretty good actually. The density, crunch, pull, chewy factor and flavor are very good. I have had better but not that often.
But the cream cheese ratio is always off. This ruins the experience. The flavored spreads are lackluster.
Other bad news...a bagel with Lox and cream cheese is $8. I have had great smoked fish that I will pay roughly any price for. But this is not what is served here. Add in a cup of coffee and the bill is now over $10.
Dont bother with the breakfast platters. The potatoes are plain old bad, i dont know where they buy their eggs and the bacon is precooked (overly so) and then reheated to order. Not the correct way to treat bacon.
The burgers are indicative of everything that is wrong with mankind. They are emasculated little beasts. Devoid of flavor, texture and joie de vivre. The bun basically gave up any hope of future glory while the dough was still wet. I think they get their tomatoes from someone who hates tomatoes. This foolishness is overcompensated with a massive amount of very nice french fries, like a small-membered paunchy balding man ensconced in a porche.
Credit for the chicken salad. I do eat this frequently and the dill is a nice touch. -

I'm really baffled by the high rating here...maybe there just aren't any other options in Montgomery? Drive to West Windsor or Plainsboro - there are two much tastier establishments (Bagel Hole and Bagel Street, respectively).
What's wrong with these bagels you ask? After all, they're enormous and should therefore be delicious, right? Wrong. When it comes to NJ specialties (i.e. pizza and bagels), there is no correlation between size and deliciousness (this is a fact).
The bagels here are way too bready...there is a certain "chew" that one looks for in boiled bagels. I'm not tasting it here...
In better news, good cream cheese/variety in bagel offerings. That said, suck up the gas costs and drive east for bagels. -

I love Bagel Barn! Their bagels are huge and tasty, and their breakfast sandwiches are the best around. Even though it's usually packed on weekends, they move people through quickly and I always find a seat. I especially love the French Toast bagel.

Fact: The best bagel sandwiches are born and raised in Princeton, New Jersey.
Super Fact: That is 173 miles from where I live (currently.)
Optimum Fact: This distance does not deter me from gormandizing Bagel Barn whenever (and as frequently as) possible.
My girlfriend grew up in Princeton, and has been consuming these magnificent entities since birth. I, however, have only been in the picture 3.7 years, and am way behind.
Located in a very nonchalant looking plaza, Bagel Barn has a huge deli area, bagel area, and some picnic table style seating. The deli selections are fantastic - more salads and meats to choose from than you would ever imagine coming from a bagel place - or even a normal sized grocery store. Great variety of bagel types - just as you would expect.
Get food bagels everything eat it now. Depending on the time of day and how long it has been since my last visit, I get a...
Breakfast Bagel Sandwich - Bacon, Egg, & Cheese on a blueberry bagel. It is not actually a blueberry bagel unless the bagel itself is blue, and these are as blue as they get. Real egg. Real bacon. Real cheese. Really melted. Really blue. Super good.
Lunch Bagel Sandwich - Tuna on an everything bagel with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and spicy mustard. Get. This. In. Your. Mouth. Now.
I don't know what it is about their tuna...but it is amazing.
So depending on the time of day, I get one (or both) of those sandwiches, and then take some bagels to go. The people that work there are super nice and make you feel right at home, even if you don't know exactly what you want super fast right away.
Watch out, they close earlier than you would expect most days (3 or 4pm) so don't dilly dally on your way there.
Do yourself a favor and go get some bagels, bagel sandwiches, and/or some bagels and a few more bagels bagels.
BAGELS. BAGEL BARN. Carb up like tomorrow's a marathon. -

Trenton, NJ
Bagels are good, yes. But I get the feeling that a lot of the reviewers here have either been eating really bad bagels their whole lives and stumbled upon some decent ones finally and are thereby glorifying them, or I must have been eating somewhere else. Many places in Mercer County offer bagels JUST like these, and in some cases, do it WAY better. You guys need to spread your bagel wings and fly some. Onion and herb cream cheese IS way killer, I will give them that much!

I remember on the way home from soccer practice when we stopped to go to Taco Bell...and saw this place being built. Never went to that Taco Bell again. Bagel barn is really great. I know it's hard to tell the difference between bagels, but I love the freshness in their selections and of the dairy products. The service are always really friendly and fast. One of the best bagel places in NJ!

HUGE, ultra fresh bagels with generous amounts of cream cheese and other add-ons make these the best around. It's been our go to spot for Sunday mornings for a long time. They get dinged one star for their appearance. Place could really use a top to bottom sweepin & scrubbin, but who cares when the bagels are so good.

Is this the only bagel shop in Princeton? There really doesnt need to be another one. Whenever im driving on Route 206 on my way to catch a flight at Princeton Airport, I always stop at the Bagel Barn- and although its hidden within a plaza that mysteriously hidden behind houses and very hard to actually find the entrance- its worth the hunt.
I do not know if they are hand rolled or not, but the connotation that hand rolled brings to my mind is hard and dense and actually being rolled by a machine that is maybe operated by a human- finger rolled is probably a better way to say it, but, who cares how these bagels are made, they are great- and the owners are very friendly
The only strange thing about this place, or maybe all bagel shops in Central Jersey do this, is the way ordering takes place. There seems to be an extra step that promotes jumbling of bagel eaters during rush hours. -

Best bagels around, NO question!
Speedy service, but come early on weekends as everyone wants some and the good stuff goes fast! -

I can't believe Bagel Barn does not have any reviews... it has a cult following throughout the greater Princeton area.
A great selection of fresh bagels, deli sandwiches, salads, cold cuts, and snack. Every time I go home I head over for an egg and cheese on an everything bagel. The staff is always friendly and although it is usually crowded, you never wait long.
I have rarely ever been to the Barn and not run in to a former classmate from MHS. It's like a mini-reunion... the only downside is, I usually crave a bagel after a night of drinking and head over in my PJ's.Listed in: MY Tri State (NJ, NY, PA)

Best bagels. Ever. So effing fresh and delicious, it makes me sad there is no place that compares to this fine establishment in Boston. Cream cheese is whipped (I think) so it's light and tasty. I also got lox from there once too, and once again- amazing. I should have taken advantage of this place more while I was in high school, seriously nothing around me now compares. Weird thing about this place is that I ALWAYS see someone I know in there from high school. ALWAYS.
Listed in: New Jersey is not dirty

Best bagels ever!! I visit family here and always have to fit in a trip or two to the bagel barn. The olive cream cheese is out of this world. Love the French toast bagel too!! Great job.

Bagel Barn has the best bagels in the Princeton area. Period. However, I docked it 1 star for two reasons: First, Bagel Barn is in a crap location (sorry Montgomery). Second, if you order your bagel "for here," you get charged an additional $.15. That is whack! I am not penny pincher, but I disapprove of the philosophy.

I have lived all over, even had a brief stint in Brooklyn, and these are by far the best bagels I have ever had. A toasted everything with cream cheese tomato and bacon!!! Heaven. I have never had a bad experience with the staff either, so friendly and chatty. Who cares about a line? It's worth the wait!!!!!!!!

Princeton, NJ
I have to agree with nearly everything that the reviewers before me said... The Bagel Barn has simply the best bagels and sandwiches around! It's our families' "go-to" place for breakfast sandwiches and lunches... hands down! The service at the counter is not the "warmest" but they more than make up for it with their food, service and price!

Ditto great bagels. Big as a softball. Chewy outside, soft on the inside. Cinnamon-raisin tastes like cinnamon & raisin. Same thing with blueberry. Gets crazy on Saturday morning.
Location kind of sorry (strip mall), but lines attest to the quality. -

Great bagels, but the lines are too long and they have a weird coffee policy. They won't fill travel mugs because it's a "liability issue". They didn't have a response when I said Starbucks does it (as does just about every other coffee spot in the area).
