This morning I decided to walk to work. 25 blocks or so. Yeah, what the hell was I thinking?? (Actually, I'm thinking of doing it again tomorrow). During my long self-inflicted commute, I looked up and noticed the sign for this place. Bagel Bar? It's like the reverse happy hour...ooohhh yeah.
They had one of my fave bagels, but better. A whole wheat everything!! DAMN!! Delicious! However, I made the mistake of adding strawberry cream cheese. I like strawberry. I like cream cheese. But I've learned that I don't like the two together. Yuck. I ended up scraping it off and eating it plain. Money wasted on icky cream cheese.
It was a bit pricey. I might hit this place up again tomorrow just to try a different cream cheese. I will give it another chance. If I still don't feel like it's "all that", I will be on the lookout for a different place to try on my long self-inflicted morning commute.
On my second visit here things felt more bagely now that they've been open long enough to get into the schmear of things. Fresh-baked, fresh-brewed aromas abounded, the fast moving line jostled, the counterman showed some personality (Cashier pointing to wrapped bagel on counter: "What's that?" Counterman: It's a bagel!"), the warm out-of-the oven whole wheat everything bagels so f*cking good I ate two and half of the one I got for my assistant. And I'm happy to report that the smoked salmon, 86'ed on my first visit, has bellied back up to the Bagel Bar.
Not quite Watson's or Ess-A-Bagel but they're not in Hell's Kitchen.

Just cookie cutter Jersey or Long Island-style bagel place, but a solid bagel and about friggin'… Read more »
Obviously it's going to cost more than just getting a dollar bagel from one of the many carts I pass on my commute, plus it's right by my apartment so if I got something hot it'd be past its prime when I get to work.
But they have a great variety of fresh bagels, and decent counter guys, and you can't go wrong with a 'Mr Bagel' special on a 'wholewheat everything bagel' as a weekend hangover cure.
It's just a bagel place, but it does it well.
Great addition to the neighborhood! Very friendly staff (a rarity in this city), enormous bagel sandwiches, fair prices, fast service, oh, and one more thing: whole wheat cinnamon raisin bagels. I'll be back for breakfast tomorrow on my way in to the office.
on our recent trip, we pass by this bagel joint every day going to and from the condo we rented. So we finally decided to give it a try after eyeing it several times a day when passing. Egg, ham, cheese on a toasted everything bagel turned out to be a very nice hearty way to start your day. Bagel is freshly baked, good sized and tasty. Even with sharing one bagel sandwich, we felt very satified by the time we walked out of the shop. Went back there again after a couple of days, it was so good.
Bad service. Really bad. Bagels were ok at best. But ok in NYC is not good. They also got the order wrong 3 times.
What can I say about this place:
1) Super friendly guys behind the counter
2) Decent prices
3) HUGE sandwiches
4) Pretty good food
Great little place to grab a quick bite.
