Best. Breakfast. Ever.
Skip the bagels and get the egg white wrap with veggies and cheese (My go to: spinach, scallions, broccoli and mozzarella). It comes on a whole wheat wrap, so you feel extra healthy and it's so delicious and cheap (less than $5) you'll start getting it at least once a week. -

Disclaimer: I am a bagel snob and that is all I have eaten at bagel & bean.
Unfortunately (and confusingly) there is no good bagel place in Midtown West. Why? Don't ask me, I'm still puzzling it over. That being said, Bagel & Bean is pretty much the only solution. Bagels, sandwiches, juices - your pretty average stuff. The bagels are mediocre, but they have a pretty good selection of cream cheeses.
My advice? If you're jonesing for a good NYC bagel, go somewhere else. Otherwise, if you're really THAT hungry, try the bagel with egg and cheese - it's a lot of food for not too much money. Or maybe grab one of their very standard looking prepared sandwiches. You'll likely be satisfied but not much else. -

Yepp, they're A-Ok in my book.
So I was on my way back to Uptown-NO BAGEL LAND-when I figured I should stop and get some bagels for brunch.
I used the Yelp app on my IPhone (for the first time ever) to find Bagel and Bean! Only a few blocks from Union Square, this is a pretty convenient location...and I was surprised that the place was virtually empty on a Sunday morning.
They've got your bagel shoppe standards: 6+ kinds of freshly baked bagels, 6+ spreads (veggie cream cheese, scallion cream cheese, strawberry cream cheese), fresh squeezed OJ, overpriced mini-cartons of Tropicana, pre-sliced pound cakes that probably aren't so freshly made.
I always forget what kind of bagel Rus prefers, so I stuck with two plain, one with strawberry and one with scallion cream cheese.
Service was eh. They got me in and out with not much more than a second glance. The Iced Coffee was a delicious chill on the way back to the train station.
These bagels were very tasty. Not too doughy. These guys aren't ultra liberal with the cream cheese like most bagel places. I had always questioned, "Why do these places put so much dang cream cheese on my bagel?!" But now I understand why...I'd rather be stuck with too much CC (one can always scrape off) than too little (there's none to spread around! None will fall off onto my jeans or my coat! What will I use to schmear on my bagel tomorrow?!"
...
Just kidding. They provided me with just enough cream cheese to where I thought in my head..."Maybe I eat too much cream cheese?"
The strawberry CC had delicious bits of strawberries in it, which was a pleasant surprise (have you ever had the stuff from Dunkin Donuts?! DISGUSTING!).
These bagels were great. Probably just lacking a little bit of salt. And really great price. I don't know if it's the New Yorker in me...but I've become accustomed to paying like $4 for a bagel with a decent spread...but these were only $2 and change a pop? Not bad!
I'd definitely go again, maybe on my next weekend trip to Whole Foods. -

So this place has great breakfast. I just recently discovered it and I keep going back! I started off with the Bagels (which I thought were good) but I have advanced to the egg white wrap (which is amazing). I go with the spinach, turkey, cheese, although there is a ton to choose from. The fresh OJ is also quite tasty. Good place to grab on your way to work or even have it delivered once you are there. Cheers.

So hit or miss sadly, and more miss of late. Used to go in every day for a bagel until i realized they clearly serve the left over bagels from the day before before putting out new ones for certain varieties. Nothing worse than a stale bagel. If they would toss the old bagels and only serve fresh ones, I'll be back!

I agree with you all yelpers who gave this establishment one star. The foreigner cashier was rude when I insisted I gave him $20. The mistake I made was handing him the money folded 2 ways. Early this month, I was completely out of cash and had just withdrawn from nearby Bank of America - they don't give out $10!!!!! I was shortchanged by $10 on 2 drinks I ordered. He was smart enough to pull out $10 from his cash box and showed it to me that indeed that was what I handed him.....huh! But I will not allow him to spoil my wonderful visit to NYC. Everyone else was wonderful and honest. AND they are all AMERICANS!!!!Please make sure your money is unfolded when handing them to their cashiers.....

I was recently introduced to this place since it's right near my office.
I love their sandwiches especially Armando's Delight!
Everything's priced reasonably and prepared quickly--I never have to worry about getting back to work late if I go here. -
Review from Roma M.
This is a great deli for breakfast and a quick lunch. With 3-4 employees, they run a tight ship, taking orders and preparing breakfast wrap/bagel. I waited about 3 minutes for my breakfast bagel and it was pretty good.
The bagel itself was chewy and fresh. They also had a huge menu, with breakfast items available after 12pm at a premium.
All in all, I'd come here or Pret a Manger for a quick lunch.Listed in: My 30-Day Yelp-athon: Nov

NEVER ORDER FROM HERE!! Worst customer service i have ever experienced! I have ordered from this restaurant for the last year and a half almost every weekend the same order. I order the same smoothie every weekend and when they prepared it incorrectly and I called, the personnel were rude and condescending and refused to remedy the situation. I have poured a lot of my money and have been a loyal customer to this establishment and they have treated me with such disrespect. I recommend that people go elsewhere to a bagel place that that is respectful and kind to their patrons.

Little chaotic attempting to order but pretty cool place. Bagel with two eggs, bacon and cheese hit the spot.

I'm only an occasional visitor to New York, and I'm constantly surprised how any NYC joint can get away with charging the price it does for any meal, particularly something as simple as a bagel and cream cheese. Go ahead and scoff at my being an outsider, but paying nearly $7 for breakfast was just not worth it for me. The food is just decent, and the management is strict about the minimum spend level needed to use a credit card. If it's any consolation for me, I'm just glad I spent this much in support of a locally-owned restaurant, and not some chain.

Nice chewy inside with a crispy outside and they'll warm it up for you (very lightly toast). Fresh strawberry cream cheese was great! Not too sweet and nice and creamy. Customer service was decent too. Coffee was kinda bad but many patrons seemed to grab their coffee at the Starbucks next door and bring it in. I'd do that next time!

Food: 3/5 Service: 5/5 Price: $6.95 for a grilled chicken sandwich w/o extras
Five stars for service for the delivery guy's arrival in under 15 minutes. If there's an acceptable dress code for answering the door for seamlessweb, he didn't show any hint of surprise or disapproval at my likely violation of it (I'll leave it at that).
The pumpernickel bagel on my grilled chicken with turkey bacon sandwich (see photo) was crunchy outside and soft and chewy inside, but it didn't have much rye flavor. The coffee couldn't exactly be classified as gourmet either, but it sure beat having to leave the apartment.Listed in: Room Service in Times Square

I'm generally a fan of this place - we order from here for lunch at my office, and have had good experiences so far...good sandwiches, prompt service - nothing to write home about but fairly enjoyable nonetheless.
However, I just had the weirdest lunch experience. I ordered what I thought was a fairly simple sandwich - ham with American cheese, lettuce and mayo - and what arrived was even simpler - ham on bread. So I called up to see how we could rectify this situation...sure, I probably could've added some office refrigerator mayo (ew) and done without the lettuce and cheese, but it was just one of those days where I didn't feel like letting it slide. They asked me if I'd like a new sandwich or if I'd like them to send me the toppings on the side. Um, what? I'd like a new sandwich please. Then the guy tells me that the delivery guy will come back to my office, pick up my sandwich, bring it back to the shop, put the toppings on it, and bring it back to me. Um, what?!? That's not a new sandwich...that's just improving the old sandwich! So I told them to nevermind, just bring me the toppings on the side, which is pretty ridiculous, but I was already starving and was about to just eat the ham on bread anyway. So about 10 minutes later, I receive a little foil packet with two pieces of lettuce, a few slices of cheese, and mayo packets. And I had to construct the sandwich I paid them to make.
Point is, if you screw up, you should own up and just make a new sandwich, it's unsanitary and just plain weird to take back the sandwich you just delivered to fix it up properly and then re-deliver it. You don't know what I could've done to it and I certainly don't know what you'll do to it as retribution for just having one of those days. -

Hot coffee. Chewy toasted bagel. Scallion cream cheese. Very efficient service. Lots of seating. Easy walking distance to those crappy places in Midtown that you have to go to for work, because no one *really* hangs out in Midtown.
And there is even a bathroom if you need it. Though I would recommend avoiding it if you can. -

I live in the south and can't get a good bagel down here...so I trusted Yelp to point me towards a delicious bagel.
Oh how I was wrong. My bagel wasn't crispy or chewy and was kind of stale. I don't know if the high average review is due to the area being a restaurant wasteland, or if reviews are skewed because of the proximity to Times Square.
Do yourself a favor and walk to a better shop...you will burn some calories and justify your better bagel! -

Not good. Bagels tasted like Lender's frozen grocery store bagels, the paper they wrap them in sticks to them and has to be peeled off, their toaster somehow made them soggy.. ugh.
It is amazingly difficult to find good bagels in midtown west. I don't understand. -

Yelp pointed me here actually since i was using yelp on my phone to find coffee on an early Tuesday morning. Yelp did well! This place isn't bad for breakfast. :)
Great Hazelnut coffee, i must say. And i'm glad for it since now i know where in my neighborhood i can get this! :)
My egg wrap was good too! Very warm and fresh and tasty.
Next time i'll try their namesake bagels and pair that with.... yes, hazelnut coffee. :P -

I came here to get a free bagel and coffee courtesy of a tenka coupon. http://www.tenka.com/w...
I found they had tasty bagels, friendly service. It was a nice clean store too.
The bagel came with a generous amount of cream cheese and the coffee didn't taste too burnt.
Yum. I don't care what people say, I still like toasted bagels. -
Review from Helena K.
Yummy yum yum! What a relief to have Bagel & Bean just a few blocks from my hotel in Midtown West; I even passed five Starbucks locations to get there, and am so glad I did.
This place is pretty great: I went there early on a Saturday morning, there wasn't much of a line---a huge plus for me, since I live in a much, much smaller city and very much dislike standing in line---and the staff were nice and efficient. The folks who were in front of me---a family of four---took for. Eh. Ver. And they had *just* beaten me in the door. I was, of course, in a hurry, and another guy came over from the register and put my two eggs and cheese on a toasted everything bagel together lickety-split, and rang me up before the family had even finished ordering.
The bagel was fresh as all get out; truly the best everything bagels I've had in recent memory. By the time I got back to my room on the twelfth floor of the Hilton New York, it was still piping hot in its wrapper. Plus, in town for a business trip with a long day ahead of me, this puppy kept me going from 7:30 a.m. till linner at 5:00 p.m.
The coffee is pretty damn good. I'm still not used to telling someone else what I want in my coffee (see now, down 'round North Carolina way, we be puttin our fixins in ourselves), but the guy got the perfect amount of half and half. Also, they've got Splenda, Equal, and sugar there at the end for you to put your own in, which eliminates my shame, because I take my 20 oz coffee with six Splendas, and just can't bring myself to ask for that many!
So, yeah, I am definitely a fan! -

Great vegetarian foccacia sandwich! Fresh bread, yummy veggies, great cheese- perfect lunch. It was pretty big too! I thought it was a little overpriced, though. I'm definitely coming here often.

One toasted salt bagel with butter for $1.35 which hits the spot before my usual 4pm daily lunch hour at the workplace. Aside from the renown H&H Bagel, I find Bagel & Bean's quality almost as equal if not priced to meet the budget constraints.
Customer service is very attentive and efficient unlike Metro Café. -

So I finally got a chance to check this place out in person - as previously mentioned, we order from Bagel & Bean for conference lunch once in a while.
I came in for breakfast and MAN i love their bagels! They certainly live up to their namesake. Perfectly crunchy outside and chewy inside. Scallion cream cheese had the perfect ratio of both: you taste the scallion, you see the scallion, but it doesn't get stuck between your teeth.
They also have egg sandwiches for breakfast that are cooked on a hot plate... tempting.1 Previous Review: Show all »

New York, NY
Let's be real - my semetic background makes me an arbiter on bagels. And my Yelp friends, I must say Bagel and Bean is one of the best I've had in the city. I used to work across the street from B+B but also close to Bagel Stix on 8th avenue. Enough experiences at Bagel Stix where the employees messed up orders due to their limited English proficiency drove me to Bagel and Bean. What keeps me coming back is the rapid service and awesome bagels.
I'm an everything bagel kind of guy and B+B has one of the best. Both sides of the bagel are covered in seedsnstuff. If I am buying an everything bagel it better be covered in everything bagel goodness. H+H bagels are lightly covered and not nearly as good. Bagel and Bean's bagels are also a nice size , whereas H+H's are much smaller and inconsistently sized.
Toasted to perfection, I get my everything bagel with B+B's light scallion cream cheese. The light cream cheeses are great (as are the regulars) and come in different interesting varieties. The fat free cream cheese is not as thick in consistency so I typically avoid it. I don't know that any cream cheese maker has really mastered making a fat free cream cheese with a good consistency so I don't hold it against them.
B+B also has a selection of pastries including muffins as well as yogurt parfait cups, fruit and baked goods. Service is quick and no frills and you can literally be out in a minute if need be. I don't often get bagels so when I do treat myself it's always at Bagel and Bean.

Why are there no bagel places near my apartment? Isn't this NYC????
Thankfully, I discovered Bagel and Bean via Seamless Web. The bagels and cream cheese, fresh squeezed OJ and coffee are all tasty treats. The prices are decent for Manhattan and the delivery is darn speedy. -

After moving to the west coast for three years, a New York bagel is just what I needed. Luckily this place is really close to our office with great bagels to boost.
I got a plain bagel sandwich with eggs and bacon and a blue berry bagel with lox for under $6. Great price for NYC!
Since I live in Seattle I didn't try their coffee though... it was kind of funny that I went next door to Starbucks to get a Pike's Place roast.... considering I was at the actual Pikes Place just 30 odd hours ago.... -

bagel & bean is an oasis stop on my painfully long, 7 minute commute to the office on half-drunken/hungover days....the ham, egg and cheese on a toasted multi-grain bagel is soo deliciously sloppy that it 'll cure anything that could ail ya'
Has become the go-to spot for the office boys too; they'll make any odd request (don't be intimidated by their already prepared stuff). My go to is the multi-grain bagel (again), grilled chix, lettuce, tomato, swiss, mustard...f-ing solid.
my only peeve with this joint is the dude at the counter who always asks "with cheese?" when you tell 'em what you have, who then proceeds to tack on a dollar. a dollar for a slice of cheese? really now?
anyhow, penny pinching aside, solid value despite their abnormally high cost-per-slice.
good spot. -

Blech. I prefer my egg sandwiches to have fried eggs not scrambled. I ordered a bacon, egg & cheese on a sesame bagel. I got a BEC on a everything & the everything was super salty.
The place was bright & did seem clean.
Overall this place is just not my style when it comes to bagel shops. -

A cheap quick breakfast of you guessed it. . . . Bagels. Got the standard sourdough bagel with cream cheese and a cup of coffee. Coffee was so hot it was actually boiling when I got the cup to my table. Had to get some ice to cool it off a bit. Seating is limited in this place at peak hours. Not a bad place to get a quick bagel a cup of coffee.

Long Beach, CA
The whole thing was just OK, except for the actual eating area. The bagels were fine (same like you'd get from a street cart). The staff quickly got the orders ready, and payment was simple. All just fine. Since we had a tour bus planned, we wanted to eat our food and go. The few tables available were a mess - the patrons of this shop do NOT clean up when they leave (Why not? There's a trash can right by the door!) So we ventured upstairs...wrong. It was incredibly hot and all of the chairs were stacked like it was closing time. We returned back to the bottom floor, and cleaned up someone else's half eaten bagel so we could have somewhere to sit. Yuck.

Brooklyn, NY
The bagels here are pretty good. I tried a bialy today for the first time and it's was just okay. I think you can get better bagels and a better selection at Pick a Bagel on 57th and 7th or Bagel Stix on 50th and 8th.
When they first moved over to this spot from 7th Ave, I avoided it because the counter set-up was really awkward--you ordered when you first walked in, and paid at the end of the store. They recently reconfigured it, though, and now you walk to the back to order and come to the front to pay, with the register right by the door. It's much less confusing for people coming in for the first time, and so easier on people who are in there often, and so I'm more likely to stop by here for some quick breakfast every once in a while.
They also have pre-made sandwiches, soups, and salads, but I've never had any of them so can't say if they're any good, plus there are two levels for sitting, and there's internet access, so it's a good alternative for sitting around to the Starbucks that is a couple door down and always crowded. -

Our office always orders from here for meetings (yum!) but I just had the occasion to go in there myself for the first time. I pre-ordered two-dozen bagels and spreads for a coworkers birthday online and they called me to confirm as well as with a question. The order was ready exactly when I ordered and the bagels were so fresh.
Seemed to be doing a brisk business in individual walk-in sales as well. -

Standard deli food, but what an extensive selection! Clean, fast, and they have scallion cream cheese (and unlike Murray's, they toast!). I got a free bagel and small coffee through http://Tenka.com, and I just paid the difference ($0.50) to get scallion instead of plain. Also, their coffee lids have teddy bears on them. I can't fight this kind managerial decision making, it's too sophisticated for me.

thank you, bagel and bean, for always delivering catering with 2 minutes notice. i realize that my office is 10 feet away from you, and that helps, but you are so much cheaper than europa and my boss does not hate your coffee. i can call you at 815 and you will deliver two carafes of coffee and fruit and bagels by 830, thus saving my proverbial ass.
the only reason i don't give you five stars is because of the mystery-jelly-brownies. what are they? they are weird plasticine and colors that don't occur organically in nature.
i would also like to shout out to all the guys who work there who get a kick out of me paying for things in coins.
