Didn't realize extra fruit is extra charge, why they tell me after I chose? But nice to change it before order completion! Yay
Best Strawberry Chantilly Cake in Wichita. Fluffy white frosting (light tasting) with white cake and fresh strawberry filling with more cream and bottom layer cake.
Reminds me of what I used to have back in San Jose and exactly what I was looking for. -

This was the second visit for my husband and I during lunch. We wanted something delicious and different. Our first visit was good but this time it was just disappointing. I ordered a broccoli and cheese quiche and my husband ordered a chicken shwarma. My meal was ready at checkout but the cashier said that she would bring my husband's meal in a few minutes. We thought it would take no longer than 5 minutes. Well, 15 minutes later my husband sees her bringing a busy table tons of food but not his meal. He only had 30 minutes left of his lunch break and hadn't had a bite. Finally, the lady came out with the shwarma but walked around the tables looking for us, she had completely forgotten who ordered it apparently. I called her and she brought it with no apology or explanation. To make matters worse, the food was bland.
We really enjoy new food and environment but bad customer service can ruin it all. -

It's got to be tough for Bagatelle, watching as the once-great Latour empire slowly crumbles. What was once a seven-restaurant collective spanning a wide variety of food across the city has quickly shrunk, with the west side Piccadilly's closing several years ago, the eviction of Chelsea's and Olive Tree Bistro, and the closing of Piccadilly Express - the latter three all within the span of a year - only Bagatelle and the east Piccadilly remains. Judging from the crowds at Bagatelle, however, I don't think the restaurant has anything to worry about. That stretch of Harry isn't in the best neighborhood (though the excellent Mana Wok is right down the street), but it doesn't stop Bagatelle from being a mighty fine bakery and subsequently great cafe, too.
The best sandwich shops tend to be bakeries, because incorporating the fresh bread makes a world of difference to the final product. Surprisingly, there were only three generic sandwiches on the menu, the rest being a small collection of deli counter items such as pasta salads and tabouli, as well as specials like empanadas, which sounded too good to pass up.
A couple of rotating varieties of empanadas are offered, and I was interested in the ratatouille stuffing. It wasn't so much an empanada as it was a pie, and it wasn't so much a ratatouille as it was just a collection of vegetables - layers of puff pastry wrapped around a filling of mushrooms, tomatoes, and zucchini - but despite its inauthenticity, it still tasted great, the crust tender and flaky, and the vegetables fresh and savory, for me not to mind all that much.
I also had a very nice chicken curry soup, and I didn't mind the free self-service rolls, though I wish they were a little warmer. The day-old $.99 bread is also a great deal, considering that what you get at Dillon's is approximately just as old and several dollars more expensive.
Though I haven't lived in the city long enough to have had the opportunity to dine at some of Latour's other restaurants, I think both Bagatelle and Piccadilly share in a similar sort of menu philosophy - offer a very wide variety of foods, make them however you want, and use fresh ingredients. I wouldn't think the former two criterion would keep customers around, but given these are the only two restaurants remaining, I guess you can try to please everyone. -

This place is king in the world of baked goods and tasty lunches. Went here on president's day with the family and we held up the line because there were so many great-looking options: italian sausage empanadas, bierocks, tabouli, hummus (!), quiche, soups (clam chowder was featured that day) and so much more. I decided on the stroganoff with a side of tabouli--with a roll I grabbed out of the box by the drink station. Take it easy, I'm no thief--they're for paying customers!
I went back for a lemon roll, which is basically a piece of their amazing lemon cake. We also sampled the yogurt cake bar and the strawberry roll. If you like cake, go here. Even if you don't like cake, still go here and try a piece. The baked goods are delicious enough to change the mind of any anti-sweet toothers out there. -

Well, many years ago when they were on the north side, near WSU, and maybe better (or maybe I didn't know better), a friend of mine asked them what kind of Coffees they had - they told her both kinds regular and decaf. Well, they have moved to the south side and are still an alternate to the conventional bakery. Quite good and still somewhat esoteric for ict.

Great food, better bakery! Day old bread is really cheap and still better than sliced bread.

I find their lunch specials very tasty and the employees very pleasant. Once they came out to the dining room and started passing out a variety of free bread to the diners. Awesome.
