Hotel Arithmetic Lesson
--------------------------------
Room = 4
(nice, clean, and very good linens)
Bathroom = 3
(errrr...seemed a bit old, shower could have been better)
Service =4 stars
(staff was very nice and totally welcoming)
Hot Tub = 1 star
(It's Fall, and getting chilly. The worst thing is taking a dip in a hot tub which is only luke warm)
4 + 3 + 4 + 1 = 12
12 / 4 = 3 stars (couldn't paste in a little "division" symbol)
Yeah, the bathroom is average, and can be fixed somewhat easily, but would require a renovation hotel-wide.
Now the hot tub...yeah, that's the easiest fix. Are we trying to be all eco-friendly and keep the hot tub at an energy efficient temperature?? If so, I'd say....let's go green somewhere else! I like a HOT hot tub!! (don't get me wrong, I'm greener than a spring-time leaf, but it's a HOT tub! I like rolling out of a jacuzzi red as a lobster.)
Otherwise, this was a decent hotel in good ole Willits.

I'm not used to staying at nicer-quality hotels so this was a treat, ridiculoulsy comfortable beds (with down comforters!)
great continental breakfast with belgian waffles, eggs, toast, coffee, etc.

Word of the Day:
charming
-adjective
1. pleasing; delightful
Used in a sentence:
Baechtel Creek Inn was positively charming with its uniquely decorated antique filled rooms and friendly front desk personnel.
Despite being the Gateway to the Redwoods, Willits doesn't make a big splash on many peoples radars. This is a shame because it's so close to Fort Bragg, Mendocino, Ukiah and all of the surrounding vineyards. I was pleasantly surprised by the accommodations at Baechtel Creek Inn. Each room is uniquely decorated with various themes, filled with an intriguing mix of antiques and bargains (I knew that vase on the TV armoire looked familiar--$9.99 at Ross!). The continental breakfasts lasted until 10 AM and included home-made waffles and pastries, and although the selection wasn't the greatest in the world, you could eat as much as your heart desired. A pool, hot tub, and picnic area/courtyard round out the atmosphere.
I particularly enjoyed the immediate call to the room to check if we needed anything, the extra down comforter automatically provided, the free robes in the room, and the wall heater that was very efficient.
A couple notes: 1. When making up the bedroom for guests staying longer than one night, don't forget to refresh the toilet paper stash!!, and 2. Since it is a day spa as well as an inn, it might be beneficial in terms of marketing to look into stocking some trial size samples of a few of the products used in your spa in the actual rooms, i.e. lotions, shampoos, face wash, whatever, as opposed to generic samples. Just an idea!
All in all, I highly enjoyed my time here, particularly when I woke up one morning to a fresh, light covering of snow, and the feeling of being in a snow globe. Willits is worth visiting in the winter, and Baechtel Creek Inn is worth staying in all year round.

wonderful, affordable place... the owner was super nice and attentive. their beds were amazing and the overall facility was a pleasure to stay at.
we would definitely stay here again - the location is central to all the amazing things Mendocino County has to offer.
Holiday Inn's frumpy cousin with a scrunchy in her hair.

You could drive right past this place and if you weren't looking for it, you could completely miss it since it is located on a cul de sac behind McDonalds and Taco Bell. I should have kept on driving.
I travel up to Northern California at least twice a year and drive thru Willits each time. All I can say is that I wish I had the room that Sierra refers to in her review! She refers to "charming antique filled rooms" and "friendly front desk personnel". Both were missing during my stay on 12/23/08.
I was limited to choices though, because I was traveling w/ my dog and there simply aren't a lot of pet friendly choices. (Why is this I wonder? You would think that since Willits is billed as the "Gateway to the Redwoods" it would be more pet-friendly... but I digress)
I booked online easily enough. My room was located on the ground floor, which was a plus since I could park right in front of my door. There was a pet bed in the room, resembling a day bed (cute!). Unfortunately that was the best this stay had to offer. My bed, although more than roomy enough for me, offered threadbare sheets and a lumpy mattress. The toilet had a weird orange stain at the bottom of the bowl. The heater/ac was noisy and kept waking me up. If it wasn't so darn cold, I would have turned it off but that simply wasn't an option; the lumpy bed gave me a backache. (Not something you want to have when you have driven over 600 miles and still have another 120+ miles the next day)! The Continental breakfast left something to be desired (some of the offerings included bruised fruit and tepid coffee). On checkout, there was no one at the front desk and I had to wait around for someone to finally show up; I was overcharged for the pet fee (yes, they charge extra for your pet) and when I questioned that, it completely flustered the woman at the front desk. The overcharge was eventually cleared, but it took two people and about 20 more minutes to do this. Pets aren't allowed in the lobby area, so my poor dog was shivering out in the car during all this (it was snowing about 10 miles inland). Then when I got home and glanced at my reservation as I was putting things away, I discovered that I had also been overcharged about $20 for my room. I didn't think to check it at the hotel because I've never had this problem before - any other time, any other place, the rate I've received online is the one I've been charged at the hotel. The best explanation I have gotten from the so-called manager is that this was the only room available when I arrived and they gave me a discount on the upgrade (which was basically the regular price for the room I originally booked). hmmmmmm.... sounds a little like fraud to me...
What's the point of making an online reservation at a lower price? And it would have been nice if I had been told this when I checked in, not two weeks after I stayed and then only because I ASKED. When I've stayed at other hotels, I have always been informed upfront of any change in the room or rate and have often been offered "upgrades" at no extra price if the room I originally booked is no loger available.
Oh well, thankfully it was just one night right? Okay, fine. Live and Learn, blah blah blah.
btw: compared to some places I've stayed this isn't so expensive, but considering where you are (Willits) and what you get, this is waaaaay overpriced. I'm sure there are other pet friendly places here, I just need to do a little more research and stay at one of them next time! This place may be nice for Willits, but compared to places in "the city", it's more like an overpriced Holiday Inn; I don't think I'll be staying here again.
Decent place with clean rooms, and a nice view over the backyard. Pool and jacuzzi. Weak continental breakfast.
