If you're looking for a huge variety of delicious, well-crafted, and creative rolls (albeit Americanized) there's no better place around. In my last year living in Santa Monica, there's not a sushi place that I frequent more, and the food is ALWAYS excellent. Service is always friendly and rarely slow. If you're looking for authentic sushi or sashimi, this is not the place. Order their specialty rolls and look no further!

    Top Picks:
    Pork Chop
    New York, New York
    Rock Over Roll
    White Tiger Roll
    Eel Garlic Roll
(and I'll be honest, this list could go on and on)

Overall, BAD Sushi is not so bad. There are two other sushi places very close to this  location, so it was a slight challenge figuring out which location to go to.

I stuck to ordering simple sushi and no fancy rolls.  My friend order the salmon terayaki combo with spicy tuna rolls which was a very generous plate for the price.  My albacore and salmon sushi were fresh, though my salmon belly sushi (considered premium) didn't taste as fresh, but decent.

Atmosphere is casual, and staff is very friendly.  8% off your check if you pay with cash.

This is my second time here with the whole family.  We all love the sushi including my 5 year old daughter.  We ordered 7 different rolls between the 6 of us and enjoyed all of the natural flavors.

Both times that I have been here the service has been terrible.  I do not understand how such a tiny place can have so many miscommunications.  Wrong orders, calling over the waitress numerous times etc.

I will go back but i hope they fix the rocky service

    BAD sushi
(stands for Best and Delicious) was a tasty spot for a good price and lots and lots of specialty rolls- pretty much they have a different creation for anything you can think of!  The service was quick .  Keep in mind the happy hour specials are all deep-fried so not a healthy choice

Any place that offers a discount for doing practically nothing is cool in my book. An 8% discount for cash is definitely cool.

I have a problem at sushi restaurants, amidst colorful pictures on the menus, my eyes grow to about the size of a regulation football stadium, whereas my stomach does not. I always want to order everything, but usually end up with a sushi combination for a few reasons. 1. It comes with soup. 2. It comes with salad. 3. There are many different kinds of nigiri to sample.

I ended up with the Sushi Combination C, 8 pieces of sushi and a spicy tuna roll. Needless to say, I should have been rolled out of the restaurant like Violet in Willy Wonka. Absolutely delicious AND filling.

BAD Sushi has the best ginger salad dressing I've ever had in my life. I can't wait to come back and try one of the many rolls they offer.

you open up the menu and the pictures just makes you want to order
everything on the menu! but seriously, they have a huge variety of
specialty rolls.. and they all look/sound delicious! i have been here
numerous times and have enjoyed all the sushi rolls i've tried.
their salmon skin salad is also yummie- lots of salmon skin and the
dressing is good. the place is not that big, so it feels like you are
eating with strangers at times. but the service is nice and if you pay
in cash you get an 8% discount, which is pretty sweet. i def recommend
this sushi place to try out! (and it's next to cafe 50s, you can get
    milkshakes right after!)
    - there is a parking lot in the back where you pay for your spot for
how ever long you decide to stay

I may be biased here because I'm deathly allergic to soft shell seafood (think: Will Smith in "Hitch"), and I hail from Sacramento, where there is no shortage of great sushi restaurants. So, please, take my first ever one-star rating with a grain of salt (or wasabi).

There just aren't enough options available to my diet. I can eat so much hamachi (yellowtail) and albacore until I die of mercury poisoning.

Also, there is something off putting about a sushi restaurant that willfully places the words "BAD" and "Sushi" next to each other. That's like an airliner that calls themselves "DANGEROUS AIRLINE" but promises "DANGEROUS" is just an acronym for something else.

No one wants bad sushi huh?

The restaurant has such a interesting logo that we have to try it out for ourselves. However, if you take a closer look at the sign, BAD is an acronym for "Best And Delicious". So are you sure no one wants bad sushi now?

The restaurant is pretty small. There are wait lists which come around meal time. Ugh, and the tables are so small and arranged so close to each other, it's harder to get in and out and sometimes it gets annoying you hear other people's conversations.

They have many roll options on the menu. We had 3 kinds of rolls which took us forever to choose. Well, they tasted good, but not that exceptional.

Total bill came about $40ish which I think was quite pricey.

Seriously great place for sushi.  The traffic isn't fun along Santa Monica but if you can get past that, this place is a great find.  Metered parking is available in the back lot or along the side streets on the south side of Santa Monica.  This place has great specials, their food always tastes fresh and the Iced Green tea is really good.  Highly recommend this place but be warned it gets busy and is fairly small so seating can be an issue in the evenings.

There are probably 100 great places to get sushi in the LA Metro area...  What I like about this place is when they bring you the check, at the bottom there is an offer for 8% discount if you pay cash...  That's actually an incentive for me...  It knocked nearly 10 bucks off our bill...  The restaurant likes it because they don't have to deal with the Credit Card companies its easier for them, I like it because it saves me money...  and I ball so hard I always carry a couple C-notes in my wallet so I have the flexibility to pay cash...

    It's a win, win, win...

I still think the name is ridiculous but I got dragged here anyway. The sushi here is justok. I ordered scallop roll and salmon and both tasted decently fresh but the salmon was a little watery. The rolls were sloppy. This isnt the type of sushi place I like but my friend is a big fan of crazy rolls and sauces. I'd rather just go to sushi stop, its fresher and cheaper.

I was bitter when B.A.D. Sushi replaced my favorite restaurant, Terried, but I wanted to give it a try and I was thoroughly surprised at how good it is.

Salmon, tuna, and albacore sushi was deliciously fresh and came in big slices. I also liked the oyster shooter even though it was a bit too sour but I really didn't mind at all. Crazy tuna roll: shrimp tempura roll topped with spicy tuna was also delicious which made me curious about other rolls I need to try on my next visit.

    A+!!

Per my hubby, BAD Sushi is indeed BAD.  Anything crispy is of course good. The true taste of sushi comes from not having any seasoning added to it. I tried their Albacore roll and it was fishy. Sad to say I only had one bite and I didn't want to spit it out so I just ended up swallowing it. Ugh, that was dreadful. Their hot tea is not hot and it taste like water with color.  The service is ok. U guessed it right, we are so not coming back to this place. The only good thing about this restaurant is they give u a discount if u pay cash.

    Occasion: Dinner with friends

    What I Had:
    Ocean Wrap
    Green tea ice cream tempura
    Vanilla ice cream tempura

Food Review: The food here is fabulous! I was in a sashimi mood so I got the Ocean Wrap, complete with spicy tuna, cucumber wrapped with albacore, and served with karashi sauce. The karashi sauce wasn't as amazing as the sauce used at Sugarfish. The green tea ice cream was amazing. I love that it really packed in the green tea flavor, and the tempura was perfectly chewy and crunchy on the exterior.

Service Review: The waitresses were not the easiest to understand due to broken English, but they were all very friendly. The timing of our orders was not ideal as 3 of our dishes arrived much earlier than the last, but maybe they just wanted to get each of our individual orders to us as soon as possible.

Venue Review: Seating is rather limited in the restaurant and consisted of bar seating as well as several tables against the walls. There wasn't any street parking available at the time, but there was $3.50 valet parking in a lot at the end of the block.

Overall Impression: Their sashimi was great, but their green tea ice cream tempura was what really took the cake. This isn't the best place for large groups, but for small gatherings with family or friends, it's perfect.

I really like sushi and this is one of my favorite spots. I have been there at least 6 times. BAD sushi is surrounded by a couple other sushi restaurants and BAD is my favorite. They are affordable and offer an easy to follow menu, with many unique rolls, which can be hard to find at other sushi places. I will be going back there often.

I was looking for a place to get some good rolls and tempura and heard from a friend that this is her roommate's favvvv sushi place so we came haha

on the same st. is like 2 other sushi restaurants HAHA

i was really disappointed with their happy hr menu....thought they would have some good deals, but it just looked like their usual menu but it had appetizer stuff...

they have SO MANY rolls to choose from...it actually sucked cuz it made it so difficult to choose one- I think each one was similar but had only 1 thing diff about it....unnecessary, really

I did enjoy the tempura variety appetizer though. They gave a good amount and had a nice selection of shrimp, broccoli, carrot, sweet potato, and stuff..and it wasn't heavy but light and crisp- the way it should be!

overall, a great place to get good rolls

My instincts told me not to eat the rainbow roll... The fish was just so old, nasty, and dried out looking. But against my better judgement, I ate the thing. It tasted bad, not as in "Big And Delicious", but as in literally disgusting, but I didn't think think it would actually make me sick. It did. The entire next day was a nightmare of stomach illness. The other rolls weren't much better, each filled with cardboard fake crab. If this place was super cheap and tasty, I can see maybe risking the occasional food poisoning. But it's expensive for what it is (60 for two low quality sushi dinners) and it doesn't taste good. Add in a night of food poisoned agony and there's only one conclusion: stay away.

Overall, the food we ended up ordering tasted pretty good. The fish was fresh, the rice was the perfect stickiness, and the veggies and meat were well cooked.

That said, it was nearly impossible to find rolls that were not a) shellfish b) tempura. I go to sushi often. Probably once per week or so. I have a shellfish allergy, but that usually isn't a huge issue at all since there are so many types of fish to chose from.  At this place, though, if you couldn't eat shellfish, nearly everything else on the menu was tempura based! What happened to good old fashioned fish with veggies? Fish with avocado? Fish with veggies and avocado? I don't want tempura-ed fish in my roll, I don't want tempura veggies in my roll, I want plain and simple rolls that let the fresh fish and crisp vegetables shine through.

I ended up getting the combo with salmon/cucumber roll and teriyaki chicken. It tasted good, but it was truly one of the only options on the menu I could eat if I didn't want a tempura based roll.

The service was okay. Had to ask for water refills often, had to flag down the server to tell her we were ready to order because she had an amazing ability to not look in our direction or scan her assigned area. The restaurant was clean and the buss boy was efficient. I swear I never even noticed him cleaning up, yet our table was never cluttered. Impressive!

In summary: more simple, fresh roll options, please.

I've been here a couple of times and have enjoyed it overall. The specialty rolls are pretty tasty and the fish taste pretty fresh. My only complaints are the service (pretty slow!) and the price (a little higher than I would typically pay for sushi, but then again I'm kinda cheap).

I would come back just because the taste/quality outweighs the two negatives.

I do suggest they improve their service though - when I was there one time we waited 20 minutes just to get our order in. The place is small (maybe 10 tables of 4 people) and they had at least 2-3 waitresses. They completely ignored us and took our order last (I kind of wonder if it's because we're white?).

I've eaten at this restaurant twice and overall I've had good sushi rolls with a less than mediocre experience. Let me break it down...

Food: I recommend the C & C, Love Bites, and Big Pack Roll...they are delicious!

Service: This place is exceptionally small yet both times I've eaten here the food takes an average of 30 min to arrive and that's if they remember to bring the entire order. My friends had to remind the waitress twice about their roll and the cooks looked confused. The roll finally arrived over an hour later.

Overall, I would recommend doing take out so you can enjoy the food without the hassle of the long wait times and forgetful staff.

If you like creative rolls on the lighter and/or spicy side (not heavily doused in sweet sauce and/or mayo), then this is a place for you.
If you love sashimi/nigiri, or more traditional rolls, look the other way. Sakura (on Centinela) is a MUCH better place for you, sashimi & nigiri lovers.

    Read on...

Food-wise, this place is a solid 3.5 stars.
Two thumbs up for their creativity in terms of ingredients and sauces - particularly their BAD-ass Angel sauce! These earned the extra half a star.

My favorites at this place so far are the Fire Snow and Playboy. Caution: unless you love spicy food, don't order these two together. They both have jalapeño and the unforgiving Angel sauce on them. Their Pork Chop and Crazy Albacore are not bad.

I'm not a fan of their nigiri's - the fish grade could be better.

Dessert fried banana & ice cream is pretty good, although I would prefer actual pieces of bananas rather than a fried banana wontons.

Service was good, depending on how busy they are. Attentiveness deteriorates as it gets busier...

Tried this place twice but still disappointed. The atmosphere is nice but is small and cramped. Lots of choices but lacked originality to their rolls. The portions are small for what you buy. What really topped it off is when I ordered shu-mai as an appetizer, it came deep fried. Not only was the description wrong, the exact product is the same one I find from the asian market.

I picked up food the other night since it's walking distance to my apartment.  I opted for the Sushi Combination A which includes salad and miso soup and the chef's choice.

I guess I can't complain about not liking two out of 8 sushi items in the combo, but I will.  The fake crab clung desperately onto the rice and so did the egg which is about as fun as eating cardboard.

They did heed my request to add masago to some of the sushi rolls but overall I wasn't wowed.

I felt like the miso was canned and not made there and the salad had this odd lemony flavor with some kind of topping that I presume is traditional but looked like cat puke.  I asked to substitute a cucumber salad but instead got charged for that as a 2nd salad.  Thank you language barrier.

The place is small inside but packed, and I am sure I'll go back again to dine in since it's close (or I might try their competitor down the block) however I will not be ordering take out again.

Maybe sushi just doesn't travel well even if it is only 4 minutes.

The people were friendly, no complaints about that but it wouldn't be my first choice for sushi in the future.

Bad Sushi is super close to my house~ and my friend and I decided to get some take out.  I walked over, placed my order, and found myself waiting 30-40 minutes for three rolls!  I was ENRAGED.

People who got to the restaurant after me and sat down all received their food WELL BEFORE I got mine.  It was the worst service EVERR!!  I kept asking the waiters and waitresses about my order after I saw the THIRD group of people (all who came after I ordered) receive their food first.

No one apologized.  No one cared.  Looking back I feel stupid for even paying for the food when I could have gone to California Roll Factory down the way~~ CRF has awesome rolls, amazing customer service, and the prices are WAY lower.

The rolls weren't even above and beyond any other sushi place~ they were whatevs.

DO NOT GO TO BAD SUSHI.  THEY TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS LIKE CRAP.

This is one of my favorite places for some quick and cheap(ish) sushi! I'm a creature of habit so I will normally order the same few starters and then try one or two new special roll every time. This means I'll get an order of albacore (so good...has always been fresh and very tasty), a yellowtail roll, and a special roll. Of all the special rolls I've ordered, my favorites are: the BAD Angel roll, BAD roll and the Crazy Albacore. The only one I have had that I wouldn't recommend is the Love at First Bite roll...the tempura just made it a little too dry in my opinion.

Other than that, the service is great and the chefs will make you anything based on your preferences. It's usually pretty crowded at peak dinner times (7-9) so beware.

I am a sushi lover, so to give a sushi place 4 stars? Must be pretty decent.

I've tried a lot of sushi places around the Westwood area and this one beats a lot of them. The sake and beer were at a good price, while the rolls were a bit pricey. BUT, put the price aside ... the rolls were pretty damn good. Just the right size to eat in one bite with just the right amount of sauce drizzled all over. We ordered the Funky Albacore, Tropicana, and the Green Wave. My personal favorite? The Funky Albacore ... granted that albacore is one of my favorite fish.  Each roll was a pretty good size, around 12-13 bucks each, and filled with FRESH fish and veggies.

The only problems I have with this place is HORRIBLE parking and a BIT of slow service. We had to ask at least 2 or 3 times for our drinks ... but we had the advantage of sitting at the sushi bar so our food wasn't as slow.

Other than that? A pretty damn good place. Don't come here for an amazing happy hour deal - come here for a small place with some pretty good rolls with some nice, cheap sake bombs. :)

I be lovin' me some sushi and have come close to eating more than my body's weight in sushi on multiple occasions.  So knowing sushi as I do, when you walk into a place with the name of BAD Sushi you automatically conjure up a few expectations.  Well it's not bad whatsoever, it's BAD*SS.  It's PHAT!  Haha.

In all seriousness, the rolls are large, fresh, and flavorful.  Prices are extremely reasonable for sushi in LA and there are tons of choices on the menu.

I am always on the hunt for a good sushi place on the West Side.

I stopped in here for lunch with the BF after the gym.

I was impressed with the quality of the rolls.
We ordered three rolls between us (Love Love, Naughty Girls, & Tuna Crunch). All three were delicious. The portion size was generous, enough to fill us both.

The service was fast, but that could have been the time of day as well.

The only draw back was the price, three rolls was $35. That is an expensive lunch. However, I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for.

I would not let the price detour you from checking this place out. There appeared to be a few daily specials, that could probably cut back on the over all bill.

    I will definitely be back!

This place has good rolls, cheap beer, and i might say fantastic, attentive service. Very surprising.  This place really isn't bad, and its not that expensive.

It is not an upscale place. I only go here for lunch and sometimes after work for a roll and a beer.

I like the pork chop roll (no pork in it, just baked scallops and seared tuna), cute devil roll, and the funky rolls.

A roll, a beer, and a nigiri order plus tax and tip will be about 20 bucks out the door which is plenty of food for one person who isn't a pig.

I've eaten several extremely disappointing meals at many of the west LA japanese places - this is the only place I like in the sea of japanese west LA restaurants. (Except for sugarfish, but thats twice the price of eating here).
