Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate a Velvet Elvis as much as the next guy but for what this place has in American folk art it lacks in great food.

I consider myself a well rounded foodie. My advice is, don't let fancy ingredients make you feel like you eating a great meal. The best chefs in the world can make the cheapest food taste like a mouth dream.

This little bistro will delight the pickiest foodie!
It claims to be a chef-driven restaurant that is firmly committed to bringing innovative, affordable cuisine, wine & cocktails to St. Joseph.
    And, wow, they deliver.
I have dined at the Bistro three times now and each experience has been sensational.

The menu is adventuresome, creative and original. The service was prompt and professional, the wine list was quite remarkable.
This is a restaurant you would expect to find in a much larger city or urban area.

For a small plate starter I enjoyed the duck dim sum, the merguz sausage and the sweet plantain fritters.

Main courses I found to be exceptional included the pad thai, duck confit tamales, braised lamb osso bucco and the fresh fish.
However, I am starting to believe you really can't go wrong with any choice.

Aside from the quality of product, the presentation is thoughtful and artistic.
Not in the same way as the less than artistic velvet Elvis painting gracing the wall, (they don't call it bad art for nothing...), but it's a fresh innovative approach.

Desserts are also fantastic. I enjoyed the Vacheron Glace, which consisted of Belgium chocolate and backed meringue layered ice cream cake with toasted almonds and raspberry coulis...I ran three miles the next day out of guilt.

This restaurant is just one of those little treasures you always hope to find. It's located in the heart of historic downtown St. Joseph, which is about an hour north of Kansas City. I say absolutely worth the drive and I will absolutely be back.

I hope you enjoy it too!

Seriously, if I could give this 6 stars, I would.  My partner and I ate small plates only, since we wanted to try everything on the menu...and we got stuffed pretty quickly.... we tried the garlic broccoli (unbelievable), plaintain fritters (a must) tabouleh (pretty awesome), garlic caesar salad (good), he had a salmon plate which he raved about for hours that I didn't taste since I'm a vegetarian.  And then the 2 desserts...wow.  A berry torte and chocolate hazelnut bread pudding with caramel sauce...oh my.  Oh, and the service is impeccable.  We decided that even though we aren't from this area..we're coming back just to eat at Bad Art.  And yeah...the art is hilarious!!

This restaurant is a gem in St Joe! I love all of the decor and bad art on the wall but most importantly the food is amazing and priced incredibly well! I had a great mixed green salad with goat cheese, cranberries and a vinaigrette dressing and really delicious steamed curry mussels.  Everyone I was dining with also thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The atmosphere is great and would be the perfect spot for a date! I will most definitely be back the next time I'm in St. Joe.

I was in town for work, and I was so happy I found this restaurant on Yelp. I went there almost every night for dinner. I live in Los Angeles, and I was really impressed by their menu and all the interesting items they had! I loved everything I had there. Their salads were amazing, the veggie burger was so good, one of the best I've had! All their tapas dishes were amazing, I don't think you can go with anything wrong there. Everything was just so innovative and delicious. All the waiters and the owner were very nice, great atmosphere!! Wish they had one in Los Angeles!

There is much to say about the art: lava lamp, velvet Elvis, Marilyn Monroe with Albert Einstein? Yeah, right. However, I'm here to talk about their food and not their unusual taste for art. I say I'm a fan because it's a restaurant that doesn't quite have its own identity. You'll have a mix of French, Asian, American and all sorts of dishes on their menu. I like that mix because you can't always find superb international food in St. Joe. My boyfriend and I started out with the duck dim sum with mango sauce and enjoyed the delightful burst of ginger, mangoes, onions and cilantro. Since we preferred to try different small plates, we decided to split our main dish, an order of braised Lamb osso bucco. Indeed, it was the perfect choice since the meat was almost falling off the bones and the black bean sauce complemented its flavor. I recommend the small plate Ratatouille, if you've seen the Pixar movie. We also had fried zucchini, which was a great addition to our experience. We will definitely come back to try their desserts and maybe sit outside when the weather gets cooler. I'm excited that St. Joe is opening its doors to newer cuisines.
