I am an avid mountain biker and I frequently make trips up to Kettle Moraine South to ride the plethora of MTB trails they have. My trip is not complete without visiting the Lagrange General Store. After a long ride, nothing says "nice ride" like eating a fresh sandwich and drinking a cold beer outside their shop. The environment reminds you of a simpler time and this place is a goldmine.
The service is friendly, the prices are reasonable and the ambiance is "real". You couldn't recreate this shop if you tried. Ice Cream, Beer, Biking/Camping Supplies, Bikes, Biking Gear, Bike Repair Services, Deli, knick knacks - it truly is a one of a kind......... I think I want to be buried here!
I visited them this weekend and the bike shop staff is to die for. Unlike some shops that are douchy - this place is the real deal. They listened to my concerns, needs, etc. and made recommendations based on products rather than profit. Their knowledge is top notch. After riding for a few hours, I spent four hours drinking beer and hanging out with my wife on their patio. What? Sit outside a "general store" for four hours you say? Go visit and you'll "get it". This is the life - This is my "Zen".
Mr. Owner. If you have any interest in selling your establishment or on gaining a business partner, please send me a message. I would seriously like to sit down with you.

Part bike shop, part ski shop, part hiking shop, and part sandwich shop; who could ask for anything more? Backyard Bikes aka the LaGrange General Store is a staple for road bikers, mountain bikers, locals and FIBers (you know what I mean) alike. Prices on gear can be a bit steep, but you can find some decent deals in the clearance and sales areas. There is also a really nice selection of natural bath and beauty products in the 'general store' area of this building.
The deli serves up some great sandwiches and sides, including a nice vegetarian walnut loaf with spicy brown mustard on wheat that I can never pass up. My husband tends to go for the spicy chicken sandwich, and it looks equally yummy. There is also a nice selection of deli items, including bean salad, tabbouleh, hard boiled eggs, and some sweets and cookies for dessert. Even more exciting is the small but well-rounded beer selection, full of microbrew favorites; there are many small-time soda and juice brands for those who don't want something alcoholic.
I strongly urge checking this place out if you're ever around, or if you're looking for a place to plan a road ride and want to have a good spot to start/finish (there's a large lot across the street that people use for this purpose). Close to the Kettle Moraine mountain biking trails too, if you need a snack while you bandage your wounds. -

Bought my mountain bike here and 9 years later, it's still holding up quite well. Can't think of too many places that offer such a selection just a mile down the road from the best mountain bike trails in the state. Whatever you need, you'll find it here.
